Sunset of the Dead Part 01

Twilight didn't know what to expect when passing through the Mirror. But she had little time to process as these weird bipedal creatures are fighting off seemingly corpses of themselves.

The princess moves to walk back through the portal only to find it closed off by some gate. Standing next to it is one of the creatures that she managed to recognize due to the flaming hair. "Sunset Shimmer!"

The yellow skinned girl turns to Twilight. She then pulls out some small metal tube with a handle and points it at the unicorn. There was a loud bang, and the princess almost felt something flying past her.

Turning around, Twilight finds one of those corpses with a hole in its head had fallen to the ground behind her. She is then pushed away with a grip tightened around her arm.

"Get going!" Sunset shouts forcing the unicorn ahead of her. "You just had to follow me through!"

"W-w-what's going—" Twilight tries asking but is cut off by the voice of her faithful assistant.

"Twilight!?"

"Spike?" she looks over her shoulder, expecting to see a baby dragon but instead finds a purple and green dog who is being surrounded by more of those corpses. "Spike!"

Sunset glances over and lets out a growl and shoves Sunset into the arms of a blue haired boy. "Flash! Get her inside the school!"

"Will do, Sunset."

The yellow girl then turns to a large red boy. "Big Mac! All right if I borrow your axe?"

That catches Twilight off-guard and looks up at the red boy. "Big Mac?" she can definitely see the resemblance.

The boy smiles. "Eyup!" and tosses Sunset his axe.

As soon as the wood cutting tool was in her palms, Sunset dashes over to where the dog is struggling to keep away from the corpses. Every time one of those things got near, the girl would swing the tool, aiming for the head. When she is close to the gathering corpses, she draws that tube and manages to put a hole in all their heads. Sunset then snatches up Spike and makes her way to where Twilight and the boys were.

"Go, go, go!" they all make their way to the doors of a building. "What happened!? I was only gone for five minutes!"

Flash answers. "Trixie dropped one of her stage bombs, attracting the Walkers." They quickly opened the doors, went in, and rushed to close them, set some locks, and a blockade with help from other kids and a few adults.

"Of course, Trixie screwed up," she sets the dog down. "I knew it was a bad idea to let her be on guard duty. She's too irresponsible!" Sunset looks around and notices something. "Where is the Great and Powerful Trixie anyway?"

Flash and Big Mac glanced at one another before the blue haired teen answered, "She took responsibility and used her tricks to lure away as many Walkers as possible. We haven't seen her since."

Sunset clutches her fists. "You know protocol. As soon as enough Walkers clear out, we'll send a search party. If we can't find her in three days… We'll have to assume the worst." She starts walking away.

"Hey!" Twilight shouts as she tackles Sunset to the ground. "Give me back my…" she poses as the princess finds the tube pointed at her. Both are then pulled apart suddenly by other kids.

"You'll get your crown back later," Sunset runs down the hall. "There's just something that I have to do first!"

Twilight just stares down the hall where the crown thief had vanished down. She is then startled by her own voice.

"Fascinating!" turning to her right, Twilight finds a near reflection of herself. Only, she's wearing broken glasses with her hair done up in a ponytail. This duplicate is also wearing a lab coat with one sleeve rolled up while the other is hanging down, seemingly hiding her arm. "You really are my doppelganger. I wonder how much we are alike?" she then pulls out a syringe and stabs Twilight's arm.

"Ouch!"

The other Twilight looks up and around at the other people. "I probably should have asked. Shouldn't I?" and receives nods from everyone as she continues to draw blood with one hand. "Sorry. I'm just not used to being social or communicating. I just want to run a few tests." She finally removes the syringe.

"I'm fine with tests," Twilight rubs her arm as she gets handed a bandage. She glances at the doors and sees more of those things still wandering around. "What are those creatures? They look like corpses."

"That's because they here," the duplicate explains.

"Huh?"

"We still don't know how it started. Just that one day, we found that once you die, you don't stay dead. Instead, you become what we call a Walker."

"Surely there's some way to prevent that."

"There's two ways," the other Twilight confirms. "Destroy the brain before turning and they will indeed stay dead." That horrified the Princess. "There's one alternative if you're lucky," she then removes one side of her lab coat to reveal an upper arm that ends in a stump where the rest of it should be, causing the main Twilight to gasp. "But you'd have to be quick and hope the blood loss doesn't kill you," she puts the coat back on. "We're actually hoping for another means to prevent the former from happening to someone with Sunsets help."

Princess Twilight looks up in thought and a realization comes to her. "The Crown."
