I DO NOT OWN HATFIELDS AND MCCOYS.

University of Louisville. Louisville, Kentucky. Later that morning.

Eventually, Roseanna came around and managed to accept that she and her lover were in the future now. Nevertheless, it was a concept that was still hard for Miss McCoy to wrap her head around.

"So...what are we gonna do now?" Johnse asked quietly as for the first time in his life, he felt truly lost. He'd always been carefree and in control. Now, he just felt helpless. His family and everyone that he'd ever known was gone, same for his lady love.

"I honestly have no freaking idea." Stanley said as he sat down on a chair; trying to wrap his mind around what he and his friends were now a witness to.

"Where are they gonna go, we can't just throw them onto the streets!" Maya exclaimed as she felt pity for Roseanna being flung into a different time period with only Johnse for support.

"We don't wanna be any trouble for ya, I'm sure I can find me some work somewheres." Johnse offered as everyone in the room looked at him with pity at the golden boy's obvious naïveté.

"I ain't a hundred percent sure what shit was like in the 1800's, but I think it's a pretty fair assumption to say that you wouldn't be able to make it in 2018." Nelson said as he went to the fridge and got himself a bottle of Captain Morgan.

"Breakfast of champions, huh?" Kollene asked with a smirk, earning giggles from the others as Nelson promptly flipped her the bird while downing a shot of spiced rum.

"The point is, with all the technology and shit, there's bound to be hundreds of things you ain't going to fully understand and it'll make making a living damn near impossible for you." Clay finished quickly, trying to avoid a blow out between his room mates.

"He's got a point Johnse, we wouldn't have no idea where to begin to make a life fer ourselves." Roseanna said as she took his hand in hers as she stroked it with her pinky finger.

"You could stay with us if you want to." Stanley said eagerly as he was not about to pass up the chance to room with a couple of historical figures; especially the red neck Romeo and Juliet.

"We couldn't put you to no trouble." Johnse said, trying to be polite. Truth be told, he was hoping that one of the boys would make the offer so he and Roseanna would at least have a roof over their heads.

"It wouldn't be no trouble." Stanley assured him with a smile. "The townhouses we got on campus take up to 4 people, but the 4th guy who was supposed to room with us dropped out at the last minute, so we got a spare room with a closet and a bed, if you want it?"

"We'd be plumb foolish to turn ya down." Johnse said with gratitude.

"Would you fellas be all right with us staying wit ya?" Roseanna inquired timidly as she too wanted a bed to sleep in.

"Sure, there's enough to go around." Clay replied with a shrug.

"Why not, at least Stanley will have someone to babble to about history besides us." Nelson teased, earning a middle finger for his efforts.

"Well, I think it would be nice to have another girl around." Maya said as she sat near Roseanna.

"At least she'll be sweet and clean, not uncivilized dogs like y'all." Kollene remarked as the boys took offense to that.

"Shit Kollene, you talking like I was raised in a barn." Stanley said in annoyance.

"Your daddy's a farmer, ain't he?" Kollene shot back.

"Just because we don't wash our hands every 5 minutes and act like sophisticated gentleman don't make us bad guys." Clay declared in a huff.

"Nope, just guys." Maya replied with a smirk as the boys rolled their eyes.

"Is there a place we can rustle up some grub?" Johnse asked as he heard his stomach growl like a wild beast.

"They got breakfast at the student center, let's go." Nelson called as everyone followed him out the door and made the 2 minute walk to the student center were the cafeteria served 3 squares a day. Johnse and Roseanna were taken aback by the sight of the large and modern university campus; even more so by the student center when they walked in. They were used to the dusty and dirty surroundings of 1800's buildings. To see a place so modern and so clean was a sight for the sorest eyes.

"Hell's bells...looks like we died and gone to Heaven." Johnse said, letting out a whistle.

"It's the most beautiful place I ever seen." Roseanna remarked dreamily as the boys and girls paid for their meals with their students card

"I'll cover your meals." Stanley said, swiping his card 2 extra times to pay for their breakfasts. The cafeteria had a spread of flapjacks, waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links, and more.

"Damn, the college has 'bough grub her to feed an army." Johnse said with a shit eating grin as he piled up his plate while Roseanna did the same.

"Poppy never let me drink coffee back home." Roseanna said as she eyed the coffee machine longingly.

"We ain't gonna tell him if you don't." Clay said as Roseanna mischievously poured herself a big cup of Joe. The group gathered plates full of food as they grabbed a table to start stuffing their faces.

"Ain't as good as my mama's cookin, but it tastes good all the same." Johnse said as he tore off a piece of waffle.

"I didn't know that universities could be this luxurious." Roseanna said as she ate a huge bite of scrambled eggs and washed it down with a swig of coffee.

"Stick with us, we'll show you all about campus life." Stanley said as he was beyond excited to have 2 new friends.
