Gine's hands glowed with healing energy as she focused on Gohan's wounds. The intensity of the battle had taken its toll, and his body was riddled with injuries. She could feel his life force stabilizing under her touch, but it was a slow process.
"Hang in there, Gohan," Gine whispered, her voice laced with concern. "We won't let you go."
Raditz and Piccolo stood guard nearby, their eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of Zamasu's return. The air was thick with tension, each breath heavy with the weight of what they had just faced.
Elder Kai approached them, his expression grave. "Zamasu may be gone for now, but his presence lingers. We must remain vigilant."
Gine nodded, her focus unwavering from Gohan. "What about the time ring? Is it safe?"
Elder Kai held up the device, its surface shimmering with an otherworldly light. "I will safeguard it. Its power is too great to fall into the wrong hands again."
As they spoke, a soft groan escaped Gohan's lips. His eyes fluttered open, revealing a glimmer of consciousness amidst the pain.
"Grandma?" Gohan murmured, his voice weak. "Is... is he gone?"
Gine's heart swelled with relief at the sound of his voice. "Yes, my grandson. For now, at least. But we must stay alert."
Gohan struggled to sit up, wincing as fresh waves of pain coursed through him. Gine gently eased him back down, her hands never leaving his side.
"Rest, Gohan. You've been through enough," she said softly.
Raditz knelt beside them, his expression a mix of concern and determination. "We'll keep watch. You focus on healing."
Piccolo nodded in agreement, his sharp gaze never wavering from the surrounding landscape. "We won't let anything happen to you or your grandmother."
As the hours passed, Gine continued to pour her energy into Gohan, willing him back to health. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the battlefield. The silence was broken only by the occasional rustle of wind through the grass.
Suddenly, a faint vibration caught Gine's attention. It was subtle at first, almost imperceptible, but grew stronger with each passing moment. She looked up, her senses heightened.
"Do you feel that?" Gine asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Raditz and Piccolo exchanged glances, their expressions turning wary. "Feel what?" Raditz replied, his hand instinctively gripping his sword.
The vibration intensified, transforming into a low hum that resonated through the ground. The air around them shimmered, distorting the light like a heat mirage.
"It's coming from the time ring!" Elder Kai exclaimed, his eyes widening in realization.
Before anyone could react, the time ring began to glow brighter, its light enveloping them in a blinding flash. Gine shielded her eyes, her heart pounding in her chest.
When the light subsided, they found themselves standing in a different place entirely. The landscape had changed, replaced by towering structures and bustling streets. People walked past them, completely oblivious to their presence.
"Where are we?" Gohan muttered, struggling to rise despite his injuries.
Elder Kai scanned their surroundings, his expression growing grim. "This isn't good. We've been transported to an alternate timeline."
Gine's stomach twisted with unease. "But how? And why here?"
Before Elder Kai could respond, a familiar voice cut through the air. "Welcome to my domain, Gine. I've been waiting for you."
They turned to see Zamasu standing atop a nearby building, his smirk chilling in its malevolence. He leaped down, landing gracefully before them, his eyes gleaming with triumph.
"You thought you could escape me so easily? Think again," Zamasu taunted, his power radiating off him in waves.
Gine stepped forward, her resolve hardening. "Not this time, Zamasu. We're not alone anymore."
Zamasu laughed, the sound echoing off the buildings. "Oh, but you are alone, Gine. In this timeline, you have no allies, no friends. Just me."
Raditz and Piccolo moved to stand beside Gine, their expressions fierce. "We're with you, mom. Always," Raditz declared.
Zamasu's smile faded, replaced by a scowl of irritation. "Foolish mortals. Do you really think numbers matter against true power?"
He raised his hand, unleashing a torrent of ki that sent them scattering. Buildings crumbled under the force, dust and debris filling the air.
Gine rolled to her feet, her body aching from the impact. She saw Gohan struggling to stand, his face contorted in pain. Anger burned within her, fueling her determination.
"Enough!" Gine roared, her voice carrying over the chaos. She channeled her energy, her body glowing with a fierce light. "Leave my grandson alone!"
Zamasu sneered, his eyes darkening with cruelty. "Make me, Gine."
With a battle cry, Gine charged at Zamasu, her fists blazing with energy. Raditz and Piccolo joined her, their attacks synchronized and relentless.
Zamasu parried their blows, his movements fluid and precise. He retaliated with bursts of ki, forcing them back step by step.
"You can't win," Zamasu taunted, his voice dripping with malice. "Surrender now, and I might spare your pathetic lives."
Gine gritted her teeth, her resolve unyielding. "Never."
As they fought, the city around them continued to crumble. Civilians fled in terror, their screams mingling with the sounds of destruction.
Gohan watched from the sidelines, his body trembling with the effort to move. He knew he had to help, but his injuries held him back.
"I can't just stand here," Gohan muttered, frustration boiling within him. He closed his eyes, focusing his energy inward. Pain shot through him, but he pushed through it, channeling his ki into a single, desperate act.
Opening his eyes, Gohan unleashed a powerful blast of energy towards Zamasu. The attack struck true, catching Zamasu off guard and giving Gine and the others a momentary advantage.
Zamasu staggered back, his expression twisted with rage. "Enough games! I will end this now!"
He transformed once more, his body crackling with power as he ascended to Super Saiyan 2. The air around them vibrated with his strength, the ground trembling beneath their feet.
Gine's heart sank. They were outmatched, their energy fading fast. But surrender was not an option.
"We fight until the end," Gine declared, her voice firm. "For our loved ones, for our home."
Raditz and Piccolo nodded, their resolve matching hers. Together, they prepared for one final, desperate assault.
Zamasu charged at them, his roar deafening as he unleashed his full power. Gine met him head-on, her own ki reaching its peak.
In that moment, as their energies collided, the world seemed to hold its breath. Time itself appeared to slow, each second stretching into infinity.
And then, without warning, a new presence emerged. A figure cloaked in light, stepping forth from the shadows of the crumbling cityscape.
"Stop this madness, Zamasu," the figure commanded, their voice resonant and authoritative.
Zamasu faltered, his eyes widening in recognition. "No... it can't be..."
The figure removed their hood, revealing a face both familiar and unexpected. It was Gine, but not the Gine they knew. This was a version from another timeline, one whose eyes burned with a wisdom born of experience.
"You cannot escape your fate, Zamasu," the alternate Gine declared, her voice steady and strong. "It is time to face the consequences of your actions."
To be continue...
