Chapter 3

"Mumma!"

"Oof." I gasp as a body lands on top of me. "Good morning beautiful."

"What are we doing today?"

"Well…" I start, wrapping my arms around her. "I have a little bit of work to finish but then how about we spend some time together and maybe get some ice cream?"

The girl gasps and giggles in excitement.

"I'm gonna go play with Aunty Sanny and Aunt B."

As the eight year old clambers off my bed I suddenly stop her.

"Wait a second baby, did Aunt B stay here last night?"

She stops and nods at me grinning.

"Well then, how about I go wake them up and you can tidy up your toys from the kitchen so we can all have a nice breakfast made by Aunt Britt?"

"Okay Mumma."

As she runs into the lounge I stretch before climbing out of bed, crossing the hall and knocking on Santana's door.

"What?"

"Are you decent?"

"More or less."

Chancing it I open the door just enough to slip inside then shut it behind me.

"What up Q?"

"Well you owe me a thanks as I've just stopped Beth from coming in here." I laugh. "Also, Britt would you mind making breakfast?" I ask with a cheeky grin.

"Of course, I love cooking for that little cutie pie, and my cutie pie." The dancer responds, winking at Santana before climbing out of bed, revealing that she's just wearing underwear.

"Yo Q stop ogling my girl and tell me about last night." Santana snarks, sitting up in bed and letting the sheet fall, revealing her bra.

I snap my attention up to her eyes, a smile forming on my face as I remember last night.

"That good huh?" The Latina asks, reading my expression.

"It was… yeah good." I blush.

"You totally kissed." Brittany adds, making me jump slightly.

"Didn't you already leave the room?" I ask the other blonde.

"No I was getting dressed; didn't think you'd want Beth seeing me half naked." She laughs before finally exiting.

"Did you?"

"Did I what?"

"Kiss her." Santana clarifies.

"I… maybe."

"You little flirt. I thought you said it wasn't a date." She winks.

"Well actually, I don't think it was a date, but we ended up cuddling because she got sad about an ex… then one thing lead to another and we kissed. A lot." I gush.

My best friend is about to respond but she's interrupted by the doorbell.

"Get dressed." I instruct before leaving to answer the door.

As I head downstairs and move through the kitchen, I smile at Beth helping Brittany before reaching the door.

I pull open the front door. "Rachel?!"

"Hi…" She blushes. "So I may have gotten your address from the agency that set up the workshop, I was going to come by with something that you'd left at my flat last night but… seeing as you actually didn't leave anything at mine I don't really know why I'm here."

"You're right, you do rant." I laugh.

"Sorry. Is it weird that I…"

As she trails off I frown in confusion until I see that her focus is on something over my shoulder. Turning, I find Beth stood behind me, staring right back at Rachel and panic runs through my veins.

"You're the girl in that show Mumma likes." Beth smiles, walking up and wrapping her arms around my leg.

"Um… yeah, I guess I am." Rachel stammers, before kneeling down to the girl's height. "But you can call me Rachel."

"I'm Beth." The tiny blonde replies, and I grin down at her so proud of my little girl. I run my hand through her hair as a reward.

"Ah, so you're the reason Quinn had to be home this morning." The actress realises, looking up at me with one eyebrow raised.

"Well I mean, I do actually have a deadline too." I blush, rubbing the back of my neck anxiously.

As Rachel stands back up I tell Beth to go back to helping Brittany before leading Rachel into the lounge.

We sit down on my sofa and I sit staring at my hands in my lap, trying to find words, and then courage to say those words.

"Quinn?" Rachel prompts.

"I have a kid." I blurt out.

"Well I guessed that much, she's basically you in child form, seriously does she even have a dad or is she just purely you?" The brunette laughs.

"Yeah she has a dad, though he's a bit of an arse." I add in a whisper, still avoiding eye contact. "I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"Lying to you."

"Quinn, you didn't lie, you may have hidden a part of your life but we literally met yesterday, I wasn't asking for your life story all in one day. There are still parts of me that you don't know about, even if the ex-boyfriends did come up a lot sooner than expected."

"Yeah I wasn't expecting for this to come up so soon either." I admit.

"Is that your way of saying you want to see me again?"

I finally look up and my gaze is met by warm brown eyes. I nod, biting my bottom lip in embarrassment and I see those eyes lock on to the action.

"Good, me too. Like I said last night, I really like you Quinn, you're different to anyone else I've ever met." She breathes, still staring at my lips.

Unconsciously I start moving closer but when I'm just a breath away from Rachel's lips we're interrupted.

"Well, well, well."

I groan and lean back. "Really Santana?"

Rachel chuckles slightly at my expression. "So this is the infamous Santana? I do believe I have you to thank for Quinn's sexuality."

I look up at the Latina and see a smirk on her lips.

"Don't." I warn.

"Don't what?" She asks, feigning innocence.

"You know what. For once in your life don't ruin things for me by being your normal crass self."

Santana mock gasps. "How dare you? I heard from Britt than we had company and just wanted to come to introduce myself to your new friend."

I glare at her slightly, hoping Rachel doesn't notice.

"I'm Rachel." The actress introduces, standing up to shake Santana's hand.

To my surprise my best friend actually accepts the handshake.

"Oh I know who you are. Q honestly doesn't stop going on about you for about 3 days every time she goes to see your show."

I drop my head into my hands.

"What? That wasn't crass." Santana points out, dodging the cushion I blindly throw in her direction before I hear her walk out of the room laughing.

After a few moments I lift my head, still covering my face with my hands and glance through my fingers to see an amused Rachel watching me.

"Again, I'm sorry."

"And what are you sorry for this time?" She questions.

"Her." I growl, dropping my hands from my face and pointing at the space that Santana had just been occupying.

Rachel laughs again and sits back down next to me. "Don't be sorry, though if she winds you up that much, why do you put up with it?"

"We've been together since high school, it was always her, Brittany and me, the unholy trinity. Life just wouldn't be the same without her." I shrug. "She likes to act all tough but she's a real softy really, especially when it comes to Britt, who has her wrapped around her little finger. Plus, she can actually be really helpful when you need her, and I'd rather have her with me than against me."

"That sounds like a great friendship."

"It is, most of the time." I laugh. "Anyway, do you have plans? Do you want to stay for breakfast? Britt has probably made bacon and eggs but I can always make you some toast, or we have fruit."

"I've already eaten." She replies and my face falls. "But that doesn't mean I can't stay."

My smile returns and I lead her into the kitchen.

"Britt, this is Rachel, Rach this is Brittany, my other best friend and Santana's girlfriend."

As the two greet each other I sit down on my usual seat at the breakfast island and help Beth up onto the stool next to me.

"Um." Rachel hesitates as she notices there are only four stools around the small table.

"Oh right, you can sit here I'll go get the spare stool from the cupboard." I offer, standing up and moving out of the room.

I'm nervous as I walk back into the kitchen, unsure of what I'm walking into. I don't want them to be sat in silence but at the same time I know Santana will willingly share all aspects of my life and don't want that either. Luckily, Santana is helping Brittany serve up and Rachel is sat at the table smiling at the drawing Beth is showing her.

As I move closer I blush at the sight of my daughter's drawing. It's a little girl stood next to two taller women, one of which is labelled 'Mumma' the other labelled 'Mumma's wife'.

"What if your mumma marries a man?" Rachel asks, winking at me when she spots me lurking.

"I think Mumma likes girls more than boys." Beth shrugs causing my blush to deepen.

After a pleasant breakfast, Rachel leaves to run some errands but promises to call me soon so I settle down at my desk to do some work while Santana entertains Beth.

The four of us then go for ice cream and Beth tells me that she likes Rachel, asking when she can see her again.

"Soon baby, soon." I promise, kissing her on the top of her head, a smile on my face at the thought of a potential future with Rachel.
