A Dose Of Dil
Dil thrashed in Didi's arms, desperate to get to his hand. The doctor had given him his booster shot and he was desperate to stick his hand in his mouth so that no one could ever poke it again! But Didi had just put medicine on it, preventing him from being able to get to his hand.
And then… he suddenly stopped crying. Didi frowned, surprised… until she heard cooing and giggling and looked over to see Tommy happily waving his hands at Dil, making funny faces. The baby in question squealed and giggled, his earlier crankiness forgotten.
Didi smiled sadly. That was Tommy… he gave love so effortlessly. Where other babies would have been angry that someone else was getting attention Tommy just tried to help.
'And I made him so sad, taking away what he loved…' Didi thought to herself. Spike barked and at once Didi got up, only for Dil to begin crying when he couldn't see Tommy. Looking in window's reflection she saw Tommy at once run up and play Peek-A-Boo with Dil, the 5 month old giggling happily.
At once her mind was made up.
"Stu? Could you keep an eye on the other kids? I want to spend some time with Tommy and Dil."
"Sure thing Deed!" Stu said; he had finally forgiven her for the Goober spending spree, thankfully.
"Come on Tommy," Didi said and it broke her hear that Tommy looked so unsure. It was only because Dil began to reach for him that Tommy finally followed Didi into the living room, where she sat down on the couch, gathering the boys on her lap. "Dil… Tommy… I wanted to just have a little chat with my favorite boys in the whole world." She smiled, making sure Dil was secure in her one arm while she reached over and drew Tommy in closer. "Mommy loves you both very much. And I'm sorry that sometimes I do things that hurt you." She kissed Dil's forehead. "And I'm sorry I make mistakes that hurt you." She leaned down and kissed Tommy. "I've never been a mommy before… you two make me a mommy so that means I have to learn from you. And I am so glad you are helping me learn.
"Mommy is going to make mistakes. But I hope you know how much I love you BOTH. Dil… my sweet little baby." She smiled, bouncing him slightly. "And Tommy, my special little guy." She brought him in closer, rubbing his back. "Sometimes I won't give you the attention you need…" Because she knew she had been neglecting Tommy far too much, "and sometimes I'll give too much." Which was true of Dil. "But I hope you know how much I… I love you."
She sniffed, tears welling up in her eyes… before Tommy reached up and patted her cheek.
"Aw… thank you sweetheart," she whispered, the three of them cuddling on the couch.
Together.
