The Generals of the Empire stood around a table overlooking a map of the city. Wooden blocks with either the marking of the EDF winged globe or the Imperial crest on them. Each one of them discussing tactics and plans with each other. Occasionally moving the wooden blocks around the city. As they continued to discuss, Emperor Molt and Zorzel entered and walked up to the table causing the generals to fall silent and stand at attention.
Before anyone could speak, Molt took one look at the map before turning to his son. "What is this?"
"This is a plan to remove the EDF from our land," the prince declared. "We can do it father, they are weak, discourage and can be taken out with ease,"
"Are you mad? By the gods Zorzal have your senses taken leave? We are under attack by demonic hoards from the stars, the EDF use weapons we have no idea how to use and they have an entire world to back them! Even if we manage to get them out of the city, our subjects will turn on us and they'll come back in even greater numbers,"
"They invaded our nation!" one of the generals shot. "They have taken command against the demons. Even our vassal kingdoms no longer recognise our power. We need to show them who's in charge,"
"By turning on the most powerful military that this continent has ever seen?" Molt asked looking from at each of the generals. "Do you not understand the danger? The risk? If we turn on the EDF, they will not stop until we are dead or in a cell. Trapped forever while they take our nation as their own. This plot is not only ill advised, but it will lead to the fall of our empire,"
The generals eye him carefully. "Then I suppose that you refuse to help us,"
"You are gods dam…" he tied to say but Zorzal moved placing his hand over his father's mouth before slitting his throat.
The cut was deep severing the arteries and windpipe. Emperor Molt's death wasn't quick, nor was it painless as his son and generals all stabbed him with their weapons. The former emperor was dead before he hit the floor. Zorzal stood with a smile and picked up the crown. As he did so, the generals got down to one knee as the prince sat the crown on his head and turned to the generals.
"Prepare for the attack," he ordered with a smile.
OOOOO Alnus command.
Since the invasion, the base had grown from a fort into a fully ledged fortified city. Pre-fab buildings being built and towers being set up and people were being organised into their respective buildings. However, as the days went by, more and more people came from nations that had fallen. This led to a new office being made with the goal of seeing who wanted to remain and who wanted to leave this world.
While most of the newcomers were orphans and slaves, quite a few were regular people and a few soldiers. The latter were being debriefed about the situation, while the rest were clothed, fed, watered and given a place to stay. But this also presented a problem for the EDF. People wanted to get though to start a new life without registering. That presented its own problems.
While it wasn't much of a problem for people on earth, as everyone was registered so that they could move from nation to nation with little trouble. The same needed to be applied to the refugees in case of another alien attack. So, in order to keep the peace, and order, a door was placed over the gate. Every day it opened up twice for 3 hours to let people in and out. It wasn't well liked, and people still tried to get though. But today, people were gathered as a new unit began to arrive.
Several troop trucks emerged from the gate and moved to the barracks. Troops jumped out, but they weren't human. Instead, they were demi-humans. Each one equipped with a set of PA gear custom made for their unique physique and biology. As they stepped out, people got a good look at their new protectors, who stood proud and dedicated in their new armour.
OOOOO
Verona looked out the window as Imperial soldiers moved through the streets weapons in hand rounding up every EDF soldier and sympathisers that they could. Word got round hours ago that Emperor Molt was killed and Zorzel had taken over. The result was what she now saw in front of her. People being taken and shoved into cage carts. Only a few were being killed on the streets. But those where few and far between. It seemed that the soldiers where focused on getting people alive.
For what reason she could only guess at, but it was clear that the new Emperor has something in mind. She moved over to her patients and looked at each of them. Thankfully, none of them were serious and all of them could survive without her. As she checked the final patient, the imperial soldiers walked in spears and swords at the ready. She turned to look up only to see the soldiers killing the people she was meant to take care of.
"Noooo!" she screamed as she grabbed her pistol and fired at the ones who were killing her patients.
The soldiers reacted to her and charged. Verona jumped to her feet and dogged out of the way of the spear that one of the soldiers thrusted at her. Grabbing it, she pulled herself in and kicked him between the legs sending him to the floor. She then shot him though the head before moving onto the next soldier and the next. Killing each one with a shot to the head before one of the more experienced soldiers danced round her and slammed his pommel at the back of her head. She went down to the ground while the soldiers finished off her patients.
"The Emperor has something else in mind for you," a Captain said before grabbing her by the hair and pulled her outside and threw her into one of the cages.
Her fellow EDF troopers grabbed onto her and helped her in. They looked to each other with concerned looks.
OOOOO Rondel
The news about what Zorzel had done spread like wildfire across the EDF controlled territories. But when the news hit the Princess, pissed wasn't a word that described her anger.
"What in the Godsdamn name is that fool thinking?" she yelled as she threw something at the wall.
"Its out of our hands Princess," Itami responded. "EDF command gave us orders about what to do when something like this happened,"
"And what were those orders?" she spat.
"Stand down, get taken and wait for Deaths Legion to make a move,"
Pina stared at him for a moment, eyes blinking at him. "Death's legion?" she muttered. "Isn't that overkill?"
"Nuking them is overkill, shadowy figures coming out from the simplest of places to kill is terrifying," Itami responded. "The legion doesn't like being all showy, but they do like stealth. It's not a matter of overwhelming force. It's a matter of phycology. They are ghosts, shadows. What's more terrifying than worrying about your own shadow trying to kill you?"
"That's… that's a good point," she admitted as she sat down. "But will he live?"
"Doubtful, I helped come up with the plan. As did Riza. We both agreed that your brother was a major problem if he got into power. Intel me and others all decided that if your brother ever obtained power, he would meet and untimely end,"
"And with a war on there's no need for you to hide the fact that you are going to kill him," the Princess nodded. "So, who's going to replace him?"
"You," the lieutenant said flatly.
"Great," she muttered. "Well, to work getting diplomatic,"
She stood and left. As soon as she did, Itami brought out his tablet and sent a simple message to his friends in the most feared and respected unit in the EDF.
OOOOO
Sleena moaned as she pulled herself across the road of the burned-out village. The Demon bugs hit her unit and hit them hard. While none of the DB's got out alive, neither did her squad. All of them were ripped to shreds, and she got impaled by one of the aliens as she tried to escape. That bug didn't last long. Now she was using the last of her strength to get to the medical kit of her medic.
But with each movement, blood seeped from her wound draining her life. It took until sundown to reach the pack. She snapped it open and grabbed the final en-gem syringe. After several deep breaths, she slid the needle into her wound and injected herself with the green substance. To her, it felt like a fire inside of her. She screamed out in pain as her body repaired itself.
Pain rushed though her body as she looked up at the stars. A smile crept across her face as she reached out and let sleep take over her.
Voices soon entered her mind as her sleep became, not so restful. Moaning she opened her eyes to see soldiers dressed in purple and red heraldry. Behind them stood a woman in a flowing dark red and black combat dress. A sword sat at her hip and one side of her face had a half mask in the shape of a thorns. But it was her skin that stood out most. In the moon light it seemed that she was glowing. Her skin was a pale white, like porcelain.
"Who are you?" Sleena asked with a cough.
The woman walked up to her and got down on one knee. "Are you one of the men in green? This EeeDeeeEfff?"
"Yes, I'm a soldier of the EDF. Who are you?"
"I'm Lady Venessa of the Countdom Zandi. I'm looking for help against the monsters invading my lands," she spoke, but as she did the fangs in her mouth were not unnoticed. "You have lost a lot of blood my dear, you won't make it though the night. And I need a guide,"
"You want to turn me into a vampire?" Sleena asked.
The woman stroked the side of her face and licked her lips. "If you want, but I cannot guarantee that you'll survive if I don't,"
Sleena nodded and moved to pull her armour and her collar down. She rolled her head cracking her neck allowing Venessa to stroke her exposed veins. The vampire leaned in and licked her neck with a soft moan.
"Do you consent?"
"I consent," Sleena said and braced herself for what was to come.
"Good," Venessa smiled as she leaned in and wrapped her black lips around the trooper's neck and sank her fangs into her neck.
Sleena gasped in pleasure as she felt her blood begin to drain. Her skin began to become pale, her heart slowed and her mind began to drift into sleep. She was only barely away that something was placed in front of her. Smell, a hunger entered her as the coppery smell of blood met her nose. Her resistance fell and she moved in and began to drink the sweet taste of blood.
The void inside her began to fill, but not by much and the source of blood was soon taken away. She slipped into sleep allowing dreamland to take her. A shake made her wake with a sudden gasp. Looking around she found herself in a dark room with Venessa standing before her. The vampire looked to the trooper with a smile.
"I thought you'd never wake," she said. "You've been out for three days,"
"It feels like three days," Sleena said cracking her neck. "Where are we?"
"A village next to the one you were at,"
"Good," the trooper said. "As I need something to call my base,"
"Let's go then,"
