Hello my lovely readers! We are back with a new chapter.
I am so so sorry I have not been posting for months. A lot of crazy things happen and I have been dealing with a lot of emotional and mental health. But I am glad to be back. I would like to inform you that I will be taking graduate classes during the summer and fall so I will be busy. I will see if I can post before I start.
Anyway, I wanted to change the story of "another Brother" since I wasn't a huge fan of it. Hopefully this is a bit better.
And now, let's continue our story...
Season 2, episode 6
Oh, Brother!
It was another peaceful morning in Inkwell Isle. Since our heroes last adventure sailing the high seas, they've had an uneventful few days, especially with no encounter with the Devil, and they wanted to keep it that way.
It was also one of those days where Audrey had the day off, which allowed to spend more time with the boys as well as Monica. She wanted to see if she could talk to Andy about his past, but he was off doing something for Porkrind and wouldn't be back for a while.
Audrey sat in the library in Monica's home, sipping tea. Monica then came in and sat on the couch next to her.
"How's the tea?"
"Oh it's wonderful." Audrey replied, smiling. "I have to say it's an interesting type of tea."
"It's a recipe I made from scratch." Monica informed her. "Andy had helped me collect the ingredients across different places. He's a great help."
"Yeah." Audrey trailed off. After a second, she added. "It's just strange, how he's my twin brother. I never knew, not once in my life. It's still mind blowing."
"It is rather surprising to know that." Monica nodded. "He told me he was rather shocked when he found out you were his sister. He jokes saying he felt like Luke Skywalker when he found out about him and Leia being related."
"How did he find out?" Audrey asked.
"While I would tell you, I think it's best if he explains. It is his story after all."
"True. But despite all that, I'm glad to know I have a twin brother. And, I'm not mad, just confused. I've been meaning to find time to talk to Andy, but no luck."
"Be patient. I'm sure you both will find time to chat."
Audrey smiled again and took a sip of her tea. She was in no rush to get answers, but she would like to get them soon. It would help her get more clarity and a peace of mind. It might also help her brother too, and to help them grow in their relationship.
Speaking of brothers, inside the cottage, Cuphead trudged from the kitchen, carrying a bucket full of soapy water in one hand and a mop in the other. He wasn't thrilled, especially since it was his day to do the chores and like most children, he did not want to do them.
"Ugh! Doing chores stinks! I hate doing chores." He grumbled. "I wanna go outside and have some fun. Chores are the worst, even on a Saturday. There's got to be a way to get out of doing them…"
He looked around until he saw his brother, sitting on the sofa, reading one of his novels. Since it was Cuphead's day to do the chores, Mugman decided to take some time and relax. However, his older brother began to plot until he got an idea.
He put the bucket on the ground and began to inspect the mop, a small frown coming on his face. After a while, Cuphead gave out a loud groan.
"Ugh! This is so confusing! How am I supposed to clean the floors if I don't know how to clean them? If only someone could help me…"
Mugman looked up from his reading, arching an eyebrow.
"Cuphead, mopping the floor is fairly simple. I don't think you need help."
"But it's soooo hard! Can't you just help me? Pleeeeeeeeeease?"
Seeing that his brother wasn't going to leave him alone, Mumgan sighed, got up and approached him.
"Ok ok fine. I'll show you how to do it." He sighed. "Honestly, not sure why you need help…"
Mugman then took the mop from Cuphead. "Ok, all you need to do is put the mop in the bucket like so, wring out the excess water and begin mopping."
He then proceeded to stroke the mop on the floor, while explaining to Cuphead to rewet the mop when it becomes damp, to get the corners, things like that.
Finally, the floor was clean and Mugman took a sigh. "Whew. That was a lot. But I hope this helps you next time."
"Oh yeah! Thanks so much!" Cuphead smiled brightly.
Mugman nodded and proceeded back to his reading, not knowing his brother had a smug smile on his face.
A bit later, Cuphead was tasked to do the dishes. The dishes and pots were stacked on the counter beside the sink, which was already filled with warm water with scented bubbles. He knew he was responsible to do them, but he decided to trick his brother again.
Mugman strode in, whistling while heading to the fridge. He opened it up and was about to reach for an apple when he heard his brother groan once more.
"Uuuuuuugh, it's so confusing. How am I supposed to clean them when I don't know how? If only there was a way to know what to do…Mugsy, can you help me?"
"You're asking me how to wash the dishes?" He asked, munching on his apple. "It's not rocket science especially when you have everything you need."
"Yeeeah, but I will never be able to fully understand the proper procedure. Especially since I might accidentally…drop some."
Mugman looked a bit worried. He knew Cuphead wasn't the smartest tool in the shed, I mean, the kid couldn't name Twinkle Twinkle little star for crying out loud, but he even knew how expensive and fragile the dishes were. Elder Kettle would be very angry if either one of them broke them.
Now granted, he wouldn't be too mad if it was a mere accident, but for them to horse around with them, that would really get him.
"Cuphead, come on. I know you wouldn't be that dumb enough to drop plates." Mugman informed him.
"I guess…but my gloved hands might become soapy…and slippery." He replied.
He started to reach for the dish soap and was about to pour some on his hand when Mugman intervened.
"No! Stop! Look, it takes a delicate hand to do them. Watch and learn."
He took a white apron, wrapped it around his waist and began to scrub the dishes with a sponge. He took the clean dishes, wiped them with a dish towel and placed them on the towel on the counter.
It took him a while but he was finally done, the dishes squeaky clean and the sink empty. Mugman took a breath and untied the apron.
"Whew. There, all clean."
"Thanks, Mugsy. I'll keep those tips in mind for the future." Cuphead smiled.
Now you would think that would be the end of it. Oh no. He wasn't done yet. He managed to trick Mugman into tidying up the rooms, adding some more paint to the fence and added water to the garden.
However, there was one last chore that Cuphead needed to do; wash the goat.
Now the goat was a pretty humble creature, especially when it came to the boys. He didn't like baths, as well as anyone or any animal, but once he got into it he didn't seem to mind.
Cuphead got the hose, tub, sponge, soap and towels ready for the goat, who was happily nibbling on the grass nearby. Cuphead waited for a bit until he saw Mugman go outside to tend to his flower garden prompting Cuphead to continue his trick.
As Mugman gently raked the weeds off, Cuphead approached him, and groaned.
"Ohhh the pain of doing the chores. It really brings me down. I'm so confused about this next task. If only someone could help me…"
Mugman rolled his eyes in annoyance. "Cups, it's washing the goat, not rocket science. Plus, you know how to do it."
"I dunno. I might need a refresher. I might add the wrong thing to the bath. Might make his fur turn pink."
Mugman sighed, placed down his rake and looked at Cuppy. "Dude, it's not difficult. Look, I'll show you."
He got up, and headed towards the bath. He led the goat to that area and carefully placed him in the tub. He hosed him down and then began to scrub him with a soapy sponge.
Cuphead took a stretch and headed towards the door. "Welp! I'm going to get a quick nap. Feeling worn out after tricking you."
"Yeah, you go do- wait a minute! You're tricking me?! So that's why you asked me! You wanted to make me do your chores so you could have fun!"
"Yeah. So?" Cuphead asked.
"So it's not right! It's your day to do the chores and my day off!" Mugman shouted.
"But chores are boring! And I wanna have fun today!" Cuphead argued. "Besides, you made it ten times easier. Got my chores done and now I can chill out."
"But that was wrong to trick me!"
"So what? You're my brother and you're supposed to help me."
"Not like that!"
"Oh you're being dramatic about the whole thing."
"You want drama?! You got it!"
Then Mugman charged and tackled Cuphead, promoting their usual fight. They battled around the living room, managing to avoid Elder Kettle's radio like before, and caused a ruckus.
Audie had just left Monica's house when she heard the commotion. She rushed over and saw the two fighting. Acting fast, she bolted over and separated the two, squirming, shouting and struggling to break free.
"Ok! Ok! Break it up! Break it up!" She shouted. "What is it with you two?!"
"He started it!" Cuphead shouted. "He tackled me first!"
"Nuh uh! You tricked me into doing your chores!" Mugman argued. "You did it so you could goof off!"
"Well, you did it anyway!"
"That's enough!" Audrey exclaimed.
She placed the boys down, who then glared at each other, before Audrey spoke again.
"Alright. Now tell me what happened."
"I was enjoying my day off when Cuphead kept asking me for help with his chores." Mugman explained. "I then found out that he was doing it so he could relax and have time off."
"Hey it's your own fault for doing it!" Cuphead barged in. "I'm surprised you didn't think about it the first time."
"Because I was trying to be nice! But I guess that's what I get for being nice to the likes of you!" Mugman spat.
"Maybe it's because you're too nice and you'll do anything for anyone!"
"Take that back!"
"Make me!"
They were on the verge of fighting again when Audrey stepped in.
"Stop it! Both of you! Fighting won't solve anything!"
Turning to Cuphead, she sternly informed him. "Cuphead, it was wrong of you to trick your brother into doing your chores. It is your responsibility for your day. You only would ask for help if you really did not know what to do."
Turning to Mugman, she calmly stated. "I know it was wrong of him to do that, but you should have thought about it when he asked you the first time. Next time, make sure you have a better understanding of what he's asking."
"Ok, Miss Audrey." Mugman sighed.
That made Cuphead mad. "What?! So when I mess up, I get a lecture but with him, it's just a 'don't do it again' statement!? That's not fair!"
"It is fair, since you were the one who tricked me." Mugman retorted. "If you were smart enough, you would know about responsibility."
"Mugman, that wasn't-" Audrey started but Cuphead interrupted.
"If you were so smart, you should have seen it coming! But I guess that's the price I get for having a brother like you!"
"A brother like me?! What about you!? I can't believe you are considered my brother! Someone who's slow in the head and doesn't think! You lost in a game of Soul Ball and couldn't name Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!"
"Oh yeah! Well, I wish I had a different brother! One who's always willing to live on the edge, not be stuck behind a stupid book!"
"Boys! Don't say things like that!" Audrey gasped. "You two being brothers is the best thing! Most people don't grow up with a second sibling or they lose-"
"Oh so you don't want a brother huh?!" Mugman asked.
"Yeah I don't! I wish I never had a brother! Being an only child must be awesome!" Cuphead spat.
Mugman then felt incredibly hurt when Cuppy said that. While they don't see eye to eye, hearing that really got him. But he was blinded by rage to process it and snapped.
"Well neither do I! I never wanted a brother who was so careless!"
"Fine! You don't want me, I'll leave! Consider yourself de-brotherized!"
Cuphead stormed to the door and swung it open. Before he left, he snapped "Farewell, ex-brother!"
He then slammed it shut, shaking the place a bit. Once that was over, Mugman groaned in frustration. "Ugh! He's impossible!"
He then stormed upstairs and slammed his door shut. Audie took a sigh. She knew they fought over dumb things like the last cookie or what radio show to listen to, but this sounded really extreme. Normally a parent would go after a child that ran away from home, but something in her mind told her that she should wait.
"Maybe once he's cooled down and starts to get hungry, he'll come back. Maybe then we can sit down and have a decent conversation."
With Cuphead, he ran into the forest, tears streaming down his face. He didn't want to go back to the house, especially with Mugman there. He didn't even want to think about him. He was too mad.
He was a bit away from the cottage and slowed down, eventually sitting down on a stump. He sniffled a bit and wiped his nose.
"Hmph. Stupid Mugman always makes things so boring. Why can't he be cool and adventurous?" Cuphead grumbled. "I want to have fun but he doesn't. I want a brother that's like me, not stuffy like him."
As he sat alone, little did he know a bit from him, there was an old one story shack, with broken windows, a door with a loose hinge and a worn out welcome mat. Inside, Bash and Shriek were sitting in a small kitchen with old pots, pans, a dirty sink, and a used table.
"Man, this sinks." Bash sighed. "You would have thought after all that hard work we do for the Devil we'd get some time off at a nice place, not an old house."
"Yeah, I personally don't like the rooms we have." Shriek commented. "I fell off my bed a few times."
"Shriek, you always fall out of your bed." Bash pointed out. "You've been doing that since the time David was king of Israel."
"Really? Huh I was kinda wondering about that…" Shriek pondered. Bash sighed. Even to this day his brother was a moron.
He then stood up and stretched walking towards the window. When he looked out, his eyes widened and gasped.
"Shriek! Shriek! You won't believe who I see outside!"
"Oh! Oh! Is it the ice cream man?" Shriek asked. "Oh I love it when he plays 'Pop goes the weasel'! It's one of my favorite songs!"
"No, stupid! Look!"
Shriek looked outside and saw Cuphead a few yards from their house.
"Hey, it's that cup kid the boss wants! But Audrey isn't with him. Oh well, we tried."
"No no no. We are not going to let this chance slip by." Bash argued. "Since he's alone, we can use this to lure Audrey into a trap! That way we can get them to the boss and get promoted."
"Nice! Should we call him?" Shriek asked, holding up the reflective mirror.
"Hmmm, let's wait till we get Cuphead. That way he can personally take his soul and get his bride. Now how to get Cuphead in the house…?"
As they pondered, Shriek's stomach growled.
"Oh sorry. I guess I haven't had lunch. After my sandwich I think I'll make some cookies."
"Wait, that's it! Shriek, get the cookbook! I just came up with a brilliant plan!"
"Oh! We're making cookies! Yay!" Shriek then skipped off singing "Life without you is just like chocolate chip cookies, without chocolate chips, it's just flour…"
Bash gave a sigh. He wasn't sure if his brother clearly understood the plan, but if this was the best way to get the Devil happy, then he just had to go along.
With Cuphead, he eventually calmed down and decided to head back to the cottage.
"Well, it's getting late, and I'm getting a bit hungry. Maybe I'll make a sandwich and hang out the rest of the day. As long as I don't talk to that stuck up Mug."
He got up and started heading back when something caught his attention, or in this case nose. He took a whiff and smelled something delicious.
"Mmmmm…that smell…it smells like…cookies!"
Without thinking, he followed the scent, walking further and further from his spot. The scent mesmerized him as he walked further and further into the forest. Just then his foot bumped into a small one story house. He didn't think much about it because perched on the window sill was a plate of chocolate chip cookies.
He took a whiff and sighed with satisfaction.
"Mmmm…these smell soo good! I think I'll take some before I head back."
He reached for the plate but just before he could grab one, suddenly the window swung open and two sets of claws reached out and grabbed him, yanking him inside. Cuphead had little time to react as two figures tackled him and got into a fight. He sadly lost, as the smoke cleared and he was bound to a chair.
He struggled and pulled at his ropes when he heard two voices cackle. He looked and saw Bash and Shriek near him.
"Ha! Ha! We got ya!" Bash taunted. "You fell for the old cookies on the window sill!"
"Yeah! Now we got you!" Shriek added. "And there won't be cookies for you! I'm glad my plan worked!"
"Yeah it-wait a sec! I came up with the plan!" Bash argued.
"Oh? And who made the cookies? Me." His brother retorted. "I made them so it's my plan."
"That's not how it works!" Bash shouted. "Ugh! I don't have time for this. We got the cup and now we can deliver him to the boss."
"You can't send me to the Devil!" Cuphead gasped. "I mean I dunno if he's recovered from the last time I saw him."
"True true, but I think he'll make an exception." Shriek commented.
Cuphead gulped. Even if the Devil was recovering from the constant zapping of the invisible impenetrable sweater, just mentioning to him about his capture would really get him hyped.
"Now, let's get him back to the underworld." Bash ordered. Before he could grab Cuphead, Shriek stopped him.
"Hold on, bro. I don't think we should."
"Why? We have him."
"Well, what if he's busy? We have to call him to make sure he's available."
"Hmmm…yeah that's fair. Ok ok I'll call."
He pulled out his reflective mirror, tapped it a few times and it began to glow. After waiting for a bit, the reflection began to ripple until it began to come into view.
"Hey boss!" They chimed in!
"What is it?!" The Devil asked, annoyed as his image came to view. They were about to tell him the good news when they screamed.
That's because they came face to face with him, with pink curlers in his hair, a green face mask smeared on his face and two cucumbers, which then fell off.
Now before they had left, The Devil had told them that he was going to take time in the spa.
They must have forgotten.
"This better be important." He growled.
"Oh it-it is, boss!" Bash quickly replied. "We have the best news! We captured Cuphead!"
There was a short pause before the Devil scoffed. "Yeah right, and I'm friends with Stickler. I guess we both have weird passions."
"Oh! Are you and Stickler friends now!? That's awesome!" Shriek cheered. "I bet you guys will have sleepovers, fun hangouts, movie nights…"
As he listed off the fun ideas he and Stickler could do, which will never happen by the way, The Devil simply ordered
"Bash, slap your brother."
He did as he was told.
"Ow! What?!" Shriek asked, rubbing his cheek.
"He was being sarcastic. But we actually have Cuphead! Look!"
He turned the reflective mirror and sure enough, Cuphead was there, bound to a chair. The devil was more than happy to see him.
"Oh how wonderful! You finally got that annoying Cup!"
"…Head!" Henchman called from afar.
"Thank you, Henchman." The Devil groaned.
"Yeah. He was out in the woods by himself." Bash explained. "We thought we'd take advantage of it. Now we'll deliver him right to your domain. All Shriek and I ask is for you to write a great letter of recommendation."
The Devil arched his eyebrow. "What letter of recommendation?"
"You know, one for another job." Shriek chimed in. "That way we can get out of your hair and go to another position."
"Ooh that. Well, there's one issue: you two bimbos still need to get my bride." The Devil argued. "While having the boy's soul is necessary, I still want my bride."
"What?! But she ain't here!" Bash whined.
"Then get her here!" His boss shouted. "Send word to her that Cuphead is here and if they want him back, she needs to surrender."
"How are we supposed to do that?"
"Figure it out yourself! And if you fail, so help me, you will suffer!"
The reflection then vanished and the mirror stopped glowing.
"Well, now what?" Shriek asked. "We gotta get Audrey here or no letter of recommendation."
"I know I know. We need to come up with a plan." Bash added. "Ok ok we have him and so far they probably haven't heard anything so that's good. Oh! I got it! Let's send a blackmail letter to her!"
"But we'll need white colored pencils to write the letter." Shriek mentioned. "Might be hard for her to read."
"No, dummy! A blackmail letter is a threatening letter. We have the kid and if they want him back, they'll have to agree to our terms!"
"Oooohhh! So it's not on black paper?"
Bash gave himself a facepalm. No matter how many times he's tried to explain it, he still didn't get it.
"Audrey is not going to listen to you!" Cuphead shouted. "And they'll come for me!"
"Shut it, cup! You're our prisoner now! And we are not going to disappoint our boss." Bash sneered.
"Coming from the guy who failed several times to get her?" Cuphead retorted.
"You know, he's got a point." Shriek pointed out. That prompted Bash to slap him again. "Ow!"
"Ugh I swear I don't know how I ended up with an idiot brother like him."
As the demon twins started to make a blackmail letter, Cuphead thought of something. The way Bash said that made him think about what he said to Mugman, how he didn't get how he could end up with a brother like him.
Tears began to form and he hung his head in defeat.
"Mugsy…I'm sorry…I wish I could take it back…" He whispered. "Please find me."
With Mugman, he was laying sideways on his bed, his back to the door, and sniffling, hot angry tears slipping down his face. Normally he would take the top bunk, but he didn't feel like climbing.
While it had been a while after their fight, the words that Cuppy said stung him.
"Stupid Cuphead. He always ruins everything." He grumbled. "I wish I had a brother like me, someone who has common sense and is not being stupid…"
Then there was a knock on the door.
"Mugman? Honey?" Audrey asked from the other end. "Can we come in? It's just me and Andy."
"Come in." He stated, loud enough to hear. The twins entered the room, and sat next to him on each side, Audrey rubbing his back.
"Hey, you ok?" Andy asked. "Audrey told me what happened between you and Cups."
"I don't wanna talk about it." Mugman grumbled, not turning around. "He's the worst brother I've ever had."
"Mugman, don't say that." Audrey scolded. "I know you both don't see eye to eye on things, but he's still your brother."
"No he's not. He's my ex-brother." He stated.
Audrey helped him up and placed him on her lap, still rubbing his back.
"Look, I know you're mad and you have every right to be, but you shouldn't say mean things like that." She explained. "You and Cuphead are brothers and that won't change."
"But he's so annoying! I feel like he gets himself into a lot of trouble and it's up to me to fix it." He argued. "I don't feel appreciated."
"I hate to tell ya but siblings are the definition of annoying." Andy chimed in. "I may not have had siblings, but I had a few guy friends that were like brothers to me. Yeah we got into arguments over the dumbest of things, but at the end of the day, we were still a family and cared about each other."
"And while it may be true that Cuphead can get into trouble, you always want to help." Audrey mentioned. "Besides, hasn't he helped you before?"
Mugman pondered for a bit when just then a thought came to him.
"Wait. I remember once when we were really little. I was making a sand castle in the playground when a few bullies came over and kicked it down. They laughed at me and called me names, and all I could do was cry. Then Cuphead came and told them to back off. He got them to leave and then he helped me rebuild my castle…"
"Aww see? He can be helpful." Audrey smiled. "You know you and Cuppy remind me of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Two different spreads, but they work well together. One can't outdo the other."
"And if memory serves me right, Cuphead actually started reading a book you recommended to him." Andy brought up. "It's about an explorer and his many adventures."
"Really? He took some of my advice? Wow, I never thought he'd do that. I guess I have been a bit hard on him."
"You had a right to be angry with him, but you did say some unkind words to him as well." Audrey mentioned. "Now I get that when people say things they don't mean when they're angry, but saying those things might have hurt him. When he gets back, we should talk about it with him."
"Where is he?" Mugs asked.
"Last time I saw him was heading towards the woods. I normally would go after him, but I think he needed time alone. Plus he knows not to go too far into the forest."
Just then, there was a knock at the door and Elder Kettle stepped in.
"Oh sorry! Didn't mean to intrude. Say Audrey, a lot of letters arrived for you. Must be really popular. They're on the kitchen table."
"Thanks, Elder Kettle."
The three then headed down to the kitchen and saw a stack of papers on the table. Audrey picked one note up and read it over. Then she frowned.
"Ok this is really weird."
"What's up, sis?" Andy asked.
"This is a really weird note. Starts off with 'To futr qeen Adrey.' What the heck does that mean?"
"I honestly have no idea. And this drawing is really strange." He held up a poorly drawn…I have no idea what this is."
They began reading over the notes, trying to make sense of what was being written to her. Mugman stared at the image, seeing it was very sloppy. There was even one of clouds of some type with a dotted line to what seemed to be a house or something.
As they skimmed over, Audrey then had a thought. "Wait a second. This one says "If you want to see him again…and the drawing that Mugs found…oh no."
"What is it?"
"I think Cuphead's been captured!"
"What?! Oh no! The Devil must have him!"
"Wouldn't be surprised if he did. Actually…wait, it's from Bash and Shriek."
"Those losers?" Andy asked. "Man from what you've told me about them, they remind me so much of Scratch and Grounder."
"Oh my gosh! I actually thought of that when I met them! That's far too funny."
"Who are they?" Mugman asked.
"Oh uh, just some characters from a show. It's a long story." Andy piped in. The two forgot that they were in the 1930's setting and the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog wouldn't be aired until the early 90s.
"Anyway, it looks like they have Cuphead and are probably wanting you to surrender." Andy pointed out. "And from this drawing it looks like there's a house in the forest. But why would they send in like twenty of these?"
"Not sure, but we have other things to worry about. We need to come up with a plan to save Cuppy. Bash and Shriek may not be smart, but they're not clueless."
Audrey pondered for a bit before replying. "Say, thinking of Sonic, I think I have an idea on how we can save him."
Meanwhile, the demon twins were listening to the radio as they waited for Audrey to arrive. Cuphead couldn't help but overhear that they were listening to Dirk Dangerous, which would normally be exciting for him, but with the current circumstances, he wasn't happy.
"Man, Mugsy and I would listen to that all the time." He muttered sadly. "It wouldn't be much fun if I just listened to it."
"Bash, how much longer before Audrey gets here?" Shriek asked. "I'm getting bored."
"She'll come as soon as she gets the letter." Bash reminded him." We'll double cross her anyway and bring her and the kid to the boss and then get out of his hair."
"That's good. The letters I sent were a lot but I'm sure she'll get it."
Bash looked at his brother with a confused look. "You mean letter?"
"No, letters." Shriek answered. "Meaning more than one."
"Right but wait I'm confused. When we finished the ransom note, I told you to mail it."
"I did. Along with the others I wrote, and the drawings I made."
Then it became very clear to Bash. "You sent the drafts?! I told you to send one of them!"
"Well, yeah, but it was so hard to choose so I sent all of them."
"Ugh! You're such an idiot! It will take her forever to figure it out! I gave you a simple instruction and you didn't do it!"
"But your plans are so boring! I thought sending those would be especially evil!"
"But we need her now! We can't waste time!"
"Why do we need to do your plans all the time?! Why not mine!?"
"Because your ideas are stupid!"
"You're stupid!"
"Your face is stupid!"
The two proceeded to bicker, while Cuphead watched. It was funny, as he was holding back a laugh at their comedic dispute, but also seeing that made him think of the times he and Mugs got into arguments over the dumbest of things.
"Man, I miss our annual fights. It's not the same…"
Just then there was a knock at the door, ceasing the bickering.
"Wonder who that could be?"
They rushed to the door and opened up and were shocked to see Audrey standing here, note in hand.
"Audrey!" they gasped.
"I knew I would find you two eventually." She claimed. "I'm here for Cuphead."
"Well! Glad you came! We'll be more than happy to make a deal with ya." Bash chimed in. "Boss has been missing his bride."
Now, Cuphead got scared. He knew Audrey would help, but he didn't want her to surrender and marry the Devil. Josh wouldn't be too thrilled about it. He tried to pull and tug on his ropes, but they were tied on real tight.
Just then, he heard the sound of glass scratching and then the window opening. He looked and gasped. Audrey and Mugman slipped inside and rushed over to him.
"Cuppy! You ok?" Mugman whispered as he rushed over and hugged him. Cuphead began feeling tears slip down his face.
"M-Mugsy? You-you came for me?" He choked out, as Audrey scurried over and began untying him. "Even after all that?"
"Yeah. Look, we can talk about it when we get home." Mugman whispered. "But right now we need to go."
"Right. Wait, if Audrey's here, who's over there?" Cuphead asked.
"That's Andy. He transformed to look like me to distract them." Audrey answered. "Come on. Let's head out."
They started to climb back through the window when Cuphead, whose leg was tangled in the rope, tripped and bumped into a chair, causing it to get knocked over.
"Hey keep it down-Hey! They're escaping!" Bash shouted as he and Shriek came back into the room.
"Wait, Audrey has an identical twin sister? That's so cool! But why are they both named Audrey?" Shriek asked.
Then the fake Audrey snapped her fingers and Andy was standing there grinning.
"She doesn't but she has a twin brother and that's me. Now if you'll excuse us we'll be heading out!"
Audrey quickly grabbed Cuphead and the group made a dash for it. Bash and Shriek gave chase and before they could grab them, Audrey quickly drew in her sketchbook and a giant boot emerged, causing the demon twins to stop in their tracks.
"Oh no! Not the boot!" They cried.
They ran in the opposite direction, the boot following them. It began kicking them constantly, until they were out of sight.
Audrey took a breath.
"Whew. Glad that's over with. Man those guys can run." Andy sighed.
"Give them a reason to run and they will." Audie shrugged.
As Audrey placed her sketchbook away, Mugman caught his breath, and turned to talk to Cuphead, when Cuppy rushed over and hugged him tight, much to his surprise. He felt tears
"I'm-I'm sorry, Mugsy. I'm sorry for saying all those mean things to you." He sobbed. "I do love you and I don't want any other brother but you. I'm sorry for all the things I got us into. I can't see myself living without you."
Mugman paused for a second, hearing his brother sobbing. He gently wrapped his arms around him, hugging him.
"It's ok, Cuppy. I'm sorry for saying those mean things to you." Mugman replied. "I'm sorry for calling you stupid. You're not. We're all smart in our own ways. And if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have someone to share my life with and have fun."
"Really?" Cuphead whimpered, looking at his brother with sad eyes.
"Yeah. Plus, you've been there for me when I was sad or scared. You were the one who gave me courage when you gave me those goggles. Without them, I don't think I would be courageous enough to save you and Miss Audrey."
"Heh heh. Yeah, that was a crazy day."
"But when it comes to chores, can you just promise me that you will actually ask for help when you really need it? I know you don't like them, but it helps Elder Kettle feel at home and happy."
"Ok, Mugsy. I promise to ask you for help when it's really necessary. And starting tomorrow, I will do your chores. You can take the day off tomorrow."
"Wow, really? Oh thanks, Cups. That really means a lot."
"Aww, that's so sweet of you, Cuphead." Audrey smiled. "I appreciate you wanting to do that for him."
"Yeah. That's super nice of you." Andy chimed in.
"Well, it's the least I can do." Cuphead replied.
"Come on, boys. Let's go home. I think we could use a break after all that." Audrey mentioned.
"Agreed." Both cup brothers replied.
The four of them headed back down the path to the cottage, happy that the brothers made up.
The next day, Mugman fluttered his eyes open and yawned. He slipped off his bunk and checked the time. 9:30am.
Normally he would wake up early to do chores, but since Cuphead was taking charge of it, he decided to sleep in. He slipped on his clothes when he heard a knock at the door.
"Come in." He called out.
The door opened and Elder Kettle entered.
"Oh there you are! Glad to see you up! We got a busy day ahead of us, my boy."
"I'm more than happy to help, but I am taking the day off. I got Cuphead doing my chores."
Kettle gave a chuckle. "Oh I see. You're trying to pull a fast one, but it won't work."
Mugman arched an eyebrow. "What do you mean? Didn't Cuphead tell you that he was doing my chores?"
"Seems rather funny you're referring to yourself in the third person, but I know when you're trying to get out of doing chores. Now you better get started. You got a lot to do."
Kettle then left, leaving Mugman very confused.
"What is he talking about…?"
He looked in the mirror and gasped. Turns out he looked like Cuphead. He had his clothes on, his straw in his head and even had his nose. He rushed downstairs and saw Cuphead lounging on an easy chair, looking exactly like Mugman.
Kettle then handed him a glass of lemonade.
"Need anything else, Mugman?" He asked.
"Oh, nothing for me, dearest Kettle." Cuphead replied in a taunting but sweet tone.
Kettle then left the room as Cuphead took a sip of his lemonade.
"Ahh this is the life."
He then looked and saw Mugman looking really ticked off at him.
"Oh hey, 'Cuphead.' How's life? I'm glad you're doing my chores. Now I can relax allll day." Cuphead taunted.
He was about to take another sip of his lemonade when Mugman grabbed him and once more, got into a tackle fight with him.
Audrey headed down the stairs and was about to head out to work when she saw them fight. She wanted to intervene once more but she just sighed and shook her head.
"Brothers. Ya can't live with 'em, ya can't live without 'em."
Oh brother indeed! But despite that, glad that the two made up. They need each other! Toon in next time for another great adventure!
