Here they had found themselves in the same position they took just a few weeks ago. The soft snores told Callie that Arizona's body finally into a calm enough state, allowing her to sleep. Callie pondered what she should do. This was something at least her bestfriend should know about, but she wasn't sure it was her place to share. It was now clear to her that this was something Arizona hadn't dealt with. The woman snuggled against her body looked so fragile, Callie knew from conversations they had that there were parts to her the blonde avoided bringing up with anyone, but there was clearly something underlying troubling her.
The opening of the door took her out of her thoughts.
"Arizona! Why don't you ever lock your door?" She heard the distant voice yell. It was Tim.
Callie slid from under the sleeping body and crept out of the bedrrom to greet the him, she wasn't even sure how she should approach explaining what was going on.
"Hey..."
"Callie? I thought it was only Arizona who was here." Tim said turning on the couch to see Callie instead of his sister coming out of her room. "Where is she?"
Callie was silent for a while, thinking of how to start. "She's sleeping. She had a pretty rough day... a pretty rough week actually."
"Yeah, she said she was sick. Work has been a little crazy, I'm sorry I couldn't come around earlier this week. I just stopped by to see how she was doing. How is she?"
Callie shook her head. "It's more than that." she came and sat next to him, the two had actually gotten the chance to get quite comfortable around one another. "Did she tell you she hasn't been sleeping?"
"She said school was a little hectic, so I figured that was it." His sister was a bad liar but didn't push it. He was beginning to believe he should have.
"I made soup for her Monday and it's still sitting in the fridge with all the other food in there. I don't really know what's going on, I just thought you'd probably know more than me. I'm getting worried."
Tim finally started connecting dots. His sister was acting a little out of character, but he honestly hadn't thought much of it. He didn't think Arizona would ever get back to the state she was in a while ago, so it didn't cross his mind that she might have been struggling again.
He scratched his chin. "It's been off and on for about a year now... since her last relationship. It was...pretty bumpy. I'll leave her to tell you if she wants to, but yeah. Me and Teddy tried getting her to talk to someone, but she won't budge. Mom and Dad are clueless because she is mortified by the idea of people being worried about her. I think Teddy might be better at getting her out of this, I just help where I can, but she's better with this kind of stuff."
Callie nodded in understanding. "She had a panic attack earlier, I got her to calm down, but I think seeing you might help.:
"I'll go in and check on her. Teddy said she would stop here later, we were gonna watch a movie together, but I guess we'll figure that out when she gets here."
He got up off the couch and headed into his sister's room, she needed him.
Looking through the small space between the curtains, she realised outside was now dark. She stepped out of the room to find the three of them sitting at the table in the kitchen speaking quietly, she figured they were trying to figure out what they should do with her.
"Why are all of you still here?" Luckily it didn't come out as defensively as how she thought it in her head.
"Hey!..." they said in unison, they didn't here when her room door opened.
They stared at one another, all trying to decide who would be the one to speak first.
Knock*
Knock*
The knock on the door broke some of the tension. They ordered a pizza in hopes that them all eating together would encourage Arizona to eat too.
She raised her eyebrow, now starting to connesct dots. "Is this suppose to be some kind of intervention? I keep telling you I'm fine and all the three of you do is stick your noses further into my life. I'm not a feather that's going to dissappear in the wind." She sounded more tired and frustrated with everything than angry. "I just want to exist, ok? Just for right now."
They all nodded.
Arizona sat at the table with them.
They all took a slice of pizza, retreating to their own thoughts.
Two Weeks Later
She sat in the white office with plants covering what felt like each square foot of the the room, it was exactly what she imagined it would be, all she had to do now is lay across the couch, pouring out all the secrets hidden in depths of her soul.
"Hi! My name is Elizabeth Bailey." Her voice sounded alarmingly chirpy.
"Arizona Robbins." she gave a half hearted smile, shaking the hand offered.
"What brings you here today?" the woman with soft eyes and a peppy tone in her voice asked, to break the ice.
"Apparently I've been concerning people." Arizona answered shortly.
"Tell me more about that." she chuckled a bit when she saw the blonde roll her eyes. "The most typical thing to hear in a therapy session right."
She returned a smile "My brother and bestfriend were getting worried, they didn't really present coming here as an option. It was more, 'You can go on your own or we'll drag you in.' So yeah, here I am."
"So what I'm hearing is you don't feel as if there's reason for concern?" The therapist queried.
There was silence for a while before am answer came.
"I... well I see why they would be worried but I'm fine."
"Okay, what are some of the things you think cause them to worry."
"I haven't exactly been sleeping. I usually stay up staring at the wall for a couple hours before I can get my eyes to shut. It's not that I'm not tired... all the thoughts swarming around just make it hard to relax enough to fall asleep." She hadn't yet looked up from the spot on the dest she sat in front of. "It feels like I'm constantly in a state of preparing for the worst."
"What do you mean by that?"
Arizona fought the urge to glare at her. "The slightest noise wakes me up at night and I've barely slept more than three hours in the past couple weeks, I haven't really been the best person to interact with either."
"Well I can understand being a bit snappy with not getting much sleep, it sounds like a lot to deal with. I can also see why the people closest to you might be concerned." The stranger had this look that Arizona found slightly annoying because she couldn't quite read it. The expression was soft but at the same time gave not insight to what her impression was. "Do you think you could think of what could possibly be triggering all of these feelings?"
"...I don't know." Part of it was her still not fully committed to the idea of being in a therapist's office.
"Okay, from the form I had you fill out, I read you were a teacher, what subject do you teach?"
For a brief moment the guard was down, Arizona almost let a smile grace her face thinking about her job before she remembered where she was.
"I teach English at a high school, I started at a new school a couple months ago."
"What prompted a start at a new school?" She could sense the question struck a nerve in the blonde.
"I just wanted a change." The answer was short, Arizona was determined to keep the wall up, not letting much more information than needed escape her lips.
"Ah gotcha. How has this "change" been so far?"
"It's been fine." She couldn't explain why but Arizona's blood was suddenly boiling at the amount of questions, her usual tolerance for conversation had been withering quickly recently. "What's the point of all these questions? I thought I was just here for you to fix me or whatever and it over with." The words came out infused with frustration and irritation.
"So you think there is something to 'fix'?" Now she was getting somewhere, the therapist sat forward showing a new level of engagement into exploring the blonde's mind.
"Is every sentence that leaves your mouth going to be a question?"
"I will start by saying therapy isn't an in and out process that just "fixes" everything in one session, so if that's what you expect either buckle in for a bumpy ride or you're free to walk out of here now." She took a more stern route this time.
She just sat slightly taken aback by the change of tone.
"Alright, now that we have that out of the way... me asking questions is my way of getting a gage on you, how you think, the way you interact with people, approach conflict, how you choose to cope in stressful scenarios... all of that helps us figure out what you need. I don't expect you to trust me straight away but in order for this to work there needs to be some kind of effort. You being here is the first step in the right direction." After there was no response from Arizona she spoke again. "Can you tell me what's going on in your head right now?"
It was like her mouth had forgotten how to open, suddenly the familiar tremors started to course through her body, palms sweaty.
Noticing the clear distress written across the face of the woman in front of her, she sprung into action, "Arizona... Arizona." She tried speaking firmly hopefully to snap her back to reality. After countless attempts at getting some type of a response that said the blonde had come out of the haze, she finally got through.
It was clear to the therapist that there was some sort of emotional turmoil.
"Does that happen often?"
The blonde gave a chuckle but it was one associated with humour, "Believe or not, it's usually a lot worse. It ends in me gasping for breath a lot of the time."
"Hm..." She jotted something on paper before saying anymore.
"What is she writing in the stupid notebook?" Arizona found it unsettling that she couldn't make out what was written on the page.
"Does it every feel like you might be dying, kind of like you're in this unforeseen danger?"
All she could do was nod, tears beginning to fill her eyes. It felt like she was losing control of herself."We are going to get you back on track Arizona Robbins."
*Authour's Note*
I know I've been gone for a while now. There's a lot I was trying to juggle. I won't make any promises, but I'm hoping to be a lot more consistent now that I have a bit more free on my hands. I already have ideas for the chapters to come along with some other pending story ideas.
I thought I'd just end this chapter here so it isn't too long winded but the story is heading down the path of revealing a lot more of the characters' backgrounds and making way for a hopefully enjoyable storyline for everyone, and of course, Calzona a little later down.
Im really sorry for the big gaps between putting out chapters and everyone is welcomed to leave their reviews, I enjoy reading your feedback.
