Chapter 11: Assassin's Territory
Once Rogue had left the grounds and Remy followed Jean Luc into his office, the X-man immediately crossed his arms and glared at his "father" who sat at his desk in front of him. "What do y' want?" Remy asks straightforwardly.
"Well, I got a proposition fo' y' dat might be o' interest, dependin' on how y' take dis." Jean Luc had his hands together on the desk as he said this, his eyes glancing up to Remy's red on black ones. "Why don' y' sit?"
"Non, y' can tell m' quickly." Remy shakes his head, wanting to escape the study as soon as possible.
Jean Luc looks unpleased but sighs. "Fine. So I spoke wit' de guy who can take y' collahs off-he said dose collahs are tagged. He don' want t' mess wit' dem unless I offer 'im some serious dough. Now, 'ear's what I was t'inkin'. I pay de guy, he gets dem off, den y' come back t' de guild t' get back int' de business. An' aftah seein' what y' girl can do from de last t'me, she could join y'! Imagine us bein' de strongest guild heah in Naw 'Leans!"
Remy narrows his eyes, his hands slamming down on the desk. "Rogue's not gon' take any part in de guild. Le's make date clear."
Jean Luc leans back, sighing exasperatedly. "C'mon, Remy! T'ink about it. She get t' stay heah wit' y'! An' she get t' help usin' 'er incredible powahs."
Remy sighs now, shutting his eyes. This was not happening. "She ain' somet'in' dat should be used a tool o' ploy in y' schemin'. Y' only want 'er t' stay heah cause o' what she did last t'me."
"Ain' dat what y' did not t' long ago?"
He hit a nerve and he knew it. Remy glares daggers at the man in front of him. But he couldn't really say much. Jean Luc smiles, satisfied with the reaction. "Y' see, I know dat when y' see an opportunity, y' take it, Remy. Now I know she fo'gave y' cause she's all lovey dovey wit' y' unlike befo', but ya'll still get t' wake up in de same bed wit' 'er every mornin'. Who knows, maybe we hol' a weddin' heah t' an' maybe y' 'ave kids dat also 'ave powahs…"
"No." Remy makes a face, fists clenched. "Once dese collahs come off, we're goin' back t' de X-men. Y' not gon' manipulate m' again an' I won' let y' manipulate Rogue eithah."
Jean Luc narrows his eyes, sitting back in his chair. "De X-men… hnh. Y' leave, 'll make soah y' can nevah set foot heah again."
"'Ll gladly take anywhere else den dis place." Remy growls. "Now, I got a date."
"Now hol' up! Jus' t'ink 'bout dis, Remy! Y' could be de King an' Queen o' T'ieves. De most powerful guild evah!"
Remy grins. "She already be m' Queen. Jus' not heah."
Rogue walks around some small shops, doing some window shopping at some while going inside others. She wasn't going to buy anything just yet, she wanted Remy's opinion on some of the things she saw in a few shops.
She heads down a small street, the city of New Orleans bustling with people all around. She made sure to hide the collar the best she could with what she wore and her hair, heading inside another shop to look around. She began to worry as it has been a while, wondering if she should go back to the estate, but she also didn't want to interrupt anything that was happening between Remy and his adopted father. But he did promise her a date.
Rogue shakes her head, exiting the shop and rounding a corner so she could start heading back towards the estate but she crashed into someone, causing her to stumble back and onto her butt. "Watch it." The voice growled. "Wait a minute.. I know those skunk stripes anywhere…."
Rogue winces as she wipes her hands on her jeans, then her eyes gaze up to see the one face she did not want to come across while she was here. Julian gazed down at her, his friends encircling them as a grin appears on his face. "Well, well, 's been a while since we've seen y' down heah. Now I wonder what coulda brought ya back heah?"
Rogue stands up, mentally preparing for a fight but she knew she was outnumbered. She still wasn't going to let that stop her. Logan has taught her several self defense moves-hinting to use them on Remy if he bothers her in anyway but she brushed him off from that comment with an eye roll. "None ya business." She growls out.
Julian laughs, his eyes looking her over wolfishly. "It is now. Lemme guess, y' heah lookin' fo' Gambit? O' maybe y' t' decided t' come back heah?"
Rogue hunches her body, feeling a need to escape as they enclose on her. The collar pokes out a bit as she brought her arms closer to her body, still in a fighting stance. Julian noticed the collar, motioning two guys to grab her from behind. "Well wouldya look at dat! Seems y' tagged by mutant traffickahs. Wondah how much dey'll pay m' fo' turnin' y' in-o' how much y' worth t' keep?" He lifts her chin to look at the collar, Rogue growling and struggling against the larger mens grip. "An' look at dat, y' marked up in… othah ways t'. Guess dis device le's y' be a real girl fo' once, huh?"
The guys snicker around her, Rogue still trying to yank her arms free, her stomach churning as she felt nauseous. She had to run away. She had to get back to the estate. Rogue uses her momentum to toss the guys off her, sending them into each other, then she takes off running. Julian dusts himself off, then grins. "Go get 'er boys!"
Rogue rushes around a street corner, Assassin members in tow as she ran as fast as she could. She mentally kicked herself for going out so far, but she got caught up in the window shopping and deep thinking as she went along and waited. She skids to the side as one tried to get her from popping out of an alley, recovering so she didn't fall over and get trampled on. Her heart raced as she ran, hoping she would reach the street she had first came down. She didn't know how the territories worked in New Orleans for the guilds, but she figured if she were close enough to the estate they wouldn't dare touch her, right?
Julian suddenly appears out of knowhere and slams into her, both tumbling down in the street. Rogue cries out and lays on the ground, struggling to get up. Julian roughly grabs her, smirking. "Le's see if dis 'll get Lebeau t' come out."
Rogue winces but lets out a growl, using her leg to kick him in the side. Julian yells out, but he kept a hold on her, his eyes narrowing. "I fo'got y' were a spitfire."
Rogue sends another kick to him, but he dodged it, his grip loosening which gave her a little wiggle room to slip out and crawl forward to escape. Julian was swift, sending a kick to her, making her cry out, his men now surrounding her again. He motions them to grab her, then they start taking an alleyway to escape, Rogue's body searing in pain as she limped along, her eyes staring at the ground.
Remy looks around for any signs of Rogue, wondering if she ventured further than she had originally said. His brows knit together as he searched, his hands going into his trench coat pockets. He overhears two men having a conversation as he walks by, pausing in his tracks. "Wonder if dat girl did somet'in' against de Assassin's…" One man says.
"Eh, if dey did, den dey'll take care o' it." The other man shrugs.
Remy marches up to them, his gut churning but he needed some info. "What girl?" He demands.
"Uh… I don' know. We didn' see de whole t'ing but a girl wit' dese white stripes in 'er hair was wit' Julian an' some o' 'is friends." The larger man looks at Remy.
Remy's eyes widen. "Where did dey go?!"
"Down an alleyway, but dey probably gone now."
Remy growls, then takes off. He was pissed that he wasn't there to stop it and he was pissed at Jean Luc. He heads back the estate, grabbing his bo-staff from the car and marching into the house. Jean Luc was waiting for him, his eyes watching as Remy stormed up to him. "What happened?" Jean Luc asked.
"Pretty soah Julian took Rogue." Remy growls.
"Oui, he jus' sent dis." Jean Luc turns his monitor to show the attached picture of Rogue lying on the floor in a room with a caption reading 'Your move, Gambit.'
Rogue wakes up and immediately looks at her surroundings, panic filling her. She noticed her left wrist was chained to the wall of the small bedroom, tugging at it but with no use. The door swings open, Julian entering with a smirk. "Oh good, y' awake. I jus' sent y' picture t' de Lebeau's. Gambit will probably show up in no time."
Rogue glares at him, fists clenched. "He'll come aftah ya once he fahnds meh."
"He'll try, but I got m' men lookin' out fo' 'im." Julian grabs her by the neck. "An' since y' can' use y' powahs, I don' got t' worry 'bout y'."
Rogue punches him in the face, Julian stumbling back and holding his nose. "FUCK! Y' FUCKIN' BITCH!" He screams out as blood seeped from his nose.
Rogue steps back, getting ready for another punch, but Julian tackles her to the ground, grabbing her by the neck with one hand while pinning her hands down for the other. "I was t'inkin' o' sparin' y' life an' keepin' y' fo' m'self, but now 'm havin' seconds t'oughts!"
Rogue struggles, her eyes widened with fear. He huffs, his teeth gritting as his eyes bore into hers. "But I t'ink it'd be bettah t' have y' alive so dat y' can watch m' kill Gambit. Y' don' wan' t' mess wit' m'. 'M de best assassin heah in dis guild an' I can end y' life in seconds. S' why don' y' behave, hnh?"
Rogue shuts her eyes, trying to turn her head from him, shuddering from his words. He roughly lets go, shoving her backwards a bit and leaving the room, her hitting her head on the wall and falling to the ground unconscious for a while. She woke up later, wondering how long she was passed out for, still finding herself in the same room she originally was held in. Her stomach churned as she got a sinking feeling, her hand shakily running through her hair. With no powers all she had was her hand to hand combat but she was easily outmatched and outnumbered where she was. Her head was hurting, a light pounding that pulsated as she gingerly touched it and hissed in pain. She also tried tugging on the chain, noticing it was very slightly loose around her wrist-her wrists weren't that thick to begin with which made her start to slowly wriggle it out of the cuff.
She whispers a yes as she got her hand free, then quietly headed for the door, poking her head out to look around. No one in sight. She stealthily crept down the halls, trying to remember which was the way out from the last time she was here. It was fuzzy, but she could kinda figure it out.
Rogue froze when she heard footsteps and yelling starting to come down the hall around the corner. She ducks into an empty room, waiting for the voices to walk away, she recognized one to be Julian's. "She probably still unconscious in de room." Another mans voice says. "If she don' got 'er powahs, why don' y' jus' take 'er?"
"Temptin'. If she still unconscious I might jus' do it. She punched m' in m' fuckin' face earlier."
Rogue felt sick, waiting patiently for them to pass by. Once they did, she crept out and headed down the opposite hall while they had went into the room she was being held in. She hears Julian yell in anger, causing her to start running as fast as she could. "SHE ESCAPED!! FIND 'ER!"
Rogue crashes into a wall as she skidded around a corner, panting as she ran. She had to find the way out. "Dere she is!" One man yelled.
Rogue yelps as she leapt out of the way of their line of fire. She started to crawl on the floor to get away, finding a set of stairs and deciding to take it as a detour. "Don' shoot 'er!! I wanna kill 'er m'self!" Julian barks as he marches down the hall.
She starts to run again once she got down to the bottom, but she was soon surrounded. She threw a couple kicks and punches at some men, squeezing her way out of their grasps as she shoves a pair of doors open. Her heart fluttered a bit as she ran down the hill, but it was crushed when Julian decided to tackle her to the ground, a yelp coming out of her mouth. "Y' t'ought y' could get away? Y' not gettin' away dat easily." He growls at her.
Rogue uses her fists to try to throw punches at him as she sat up, but he slapped her so hard she fell to the ground in shock. Her cheek burned as tears stung her eyes in pain. Julian grabs her roughly, tugging her back towards the house while she shook, her body unwilling to move as she shouted at herself to fight back, but she couldn't. Surely she was heading for her death.
Remy's hands shake as he made his way towards the Assassin's guild, fury running through him. He had yelled at Jean Luc before he left, grabbing his bo staff. He wasn't taking any other weapon. He wasn't a killer, but he sure as well was a fighter. There was only one person he wanted to murder and that was Julian but doing that would cause the strain between the two guilds to become worse. His goal was to get Rogue in and out, wishing the stupid collar was off of him so he could send explosive decks at the Assassin's. He wanted to burn down the house. He wanted to make them pay for taking his girl. His red on black eyes were burning with rage as he caught sight of the house in the distant.
Remy had driven to the outskirts of Assassin's territory, leaving his car at the edge and walking the rest of the way. He was careful where he walked, avoiding cameras where he knew there would be. He had to make sure he wasn't caught sneaking inside and he was damn good at not being caught.
He trudged up a small incline, his hand gripping the collapsable bo staff in his trench coat pocket to the point his knuckles turned white underneath his gloves. Again, he wished he had his powers so he could blow numerous things up. He might blow several things up once the collar does come off-if it ever does. Jean Luc still hasn't told him if this guy he knew would come down to help.
It wasn't until he got up the small incline that he stopped in his tracks, eyes widening as he watched Julian shove Rogue out of the house and onto the boat deck. He was seeing red again when he noticed how red and slightly bruised one of her cheeks were. She always had sensitive and delicate skin and watching the group just made him more and more pissed off.
Julian shoves Rogue to the edge, but not to the point of her falling off. He had her hands chained up again, but he attaches them to a cinderblock with a lock, his eyes scowling at her. "Don' t'ink o' doin' anyt'in' o' I feed y' t' de gators."
Rogue scowls back but looks away, knowing she couldn't get out of her situation. Remy's hands shake with rage, moving stealthily on the property and taking out a few guys as he goes. One guild member noticed a few unconscious members, running to alert Julian over on the dock. "Julian, some guys were knocked out!" He pants to catch his breath.
Julian snickers. "Gambit. Perfect."
He grabs Rogue's arm and tugs her forward a bit, her legs stumbling a bit as she growls at him. "COME ON OUT GAMBIT!" He shouts to the open property. "Y' WANT 'ER SAFE AN' ALIVE, Y' BETTAH SHOW Y'SELF O' SHE BE FED T' DE GATORS!"
Remy was hiding in a spot, gritting his teeth, his head peering around the corner where he hid to look at Rogue. He hears Julian speak again, his voice dripping with venom. "If I were y', I wouldn' want t' waste dis pretty face. Be a shame t' 'ave 'er death on y' hands."
Julian turns his back, Remy taking this opportunity to come out and take down his men one by one, the Assassin's guild member turning around to find him using his bo staff on his men to fight. His eyes noticed the same collar on him as Rogue, a grin appearing on his lips. "Looks like y' powerless!"
Rogue's eyes shifted back and forth between Julian and Remy, her eyes wide. Remy stands there in a fighting position after knocking his men unconscious, determination in his eyes. "I don' need m' powahs t' take y' down, dis is between y' an' m'. 'And 'er ovah-now." He says through gritted teeth.
Julian smiles, Rogue feeling her stomach churn as uneasiness settled in. "Y' can 'ave 'er if y' take m' down."
Remy makes a face, then they go for each other, Julian unleashing a knife. Remy dodged his swipes as he used his bo staff as defense, jabbing Julian in his sides, shoulders and thighs. Julian yells and swipes at Remy-a small cut appearing on his left cheek as the tip of the blade came into contact with flesh. Remy hisses, feeling the sting but kept fighting. He jumps backwards as Julian slashes at him, a shallow cut across his chest appearing and blood getting on his shirt a little bit. Julian smirks, doing a trick with the knife in his hand while Remy stood back. His red on black eyes moved to Rogue's green ones. She knew he could fight well, but she was still scared, mainly for his life as Julian wasn't playing around.
Remy dodges a swipe at his throat, sending a kick and jab at Julian, making him stumble back. Deciding she had enough, Rogue kicks him in the back as she saw him stumble backwards towards her, making him fall forward. He looks back at her with a death glare, Rogue freezing in place as she kinda regretted kicking him. "'Ve 'ad enough o' y'!" Julian roars, kicking the teetering cinderblock off the dock, which sent her falling off.
Remy yells out, tackling Julian while Rogue popped up but immediately sunk back down as the cinderblock sank, dragging her down with her. Panic set in and she starts tugging at her bound hands, struggling to swim back up, but it was at least 8-10 feet deep where she was, maybe more, she didn't know. Julian grins, blood coming out of the corners of his mouth. "Y' wan' t' save 'er? Gotta fetch de key first!" He tosses a key from his pocket into the bayou, Remy punching him and knocking him out.
Remy jumps into the water and dives down, Rogue still struggling as she can feel it harder and harder to hold her breath. He knew he was running out of time as he searched for the key, finding it lying on the bottom and grabbing it so he could swim up for air. Remy gasps, taking in a few breaths, then he takes one big breath and dives back down.
Rogue covers her mouth as air bubbles left her mouth, her eyes squeezing shut. She could feel water enter her mouth and into her lungs, choking and desperate for air. Remy finds her, panic filling him as she was drowning. He grabs her, feeling her convulsing, his hand grabbing the key he got and swimming down to her unlock it. Frustrated, he yanks at the lock, desperate to save her, but she takes one last look at him and then closed her eyes as she went still. Remy finally unlocks it, tearing it away and immediately grabbing her to swim back up, his heart pounding.
Remy gasps for air, then swims them far away from the estate so they didn't get captured again. "Hang in dere chère." He mutters, his brows furrowed in worry.
He tugs them onto shore, the estate in the distance as he sets Rogue down. He noticed she didn't come through once they hit the surface, his ear going to her chest to listen for a heartbeat. Dread sets in as he didn't hear her beating heart, muttering under his breath in disbelief. He starts chest compressions, breathing into her mouth then going back to chest compressions. "Non, don' do dis t' m' chère. C'mon, come back t' m'." He kept applying chest compressions and breathing into her mouth.
He pulls back to see if her heart was beating again. Nothing. "Fuck!" He yells out, a hand running through his wet hair.
He goes back to doing chest compressions again, gritting his teeth as he felt his heart ache. "Rogue, please, chère, come back t' m'. C'mon. Please!"
After what seemed like eternity, Rogue coughs up a bunch of water, gasping. Remy lets out a huge sigh of relief as he held her to him, his arms cradling her. "Y' alive! Y' okay." His voice shook a bit as he felt the relief wash over him.
Rogue's eyes fluttered open very slightly, catching his looking down at her with tears threatening to leave. She slips back into unconsciousness, Remy lifting her up to carry her back to where he parked the car, knowing he had to get her back home to safety where she can rest.
A/N: And that was chapter 11. Let me know what you guys think! Till next time~
