Chapter 35:

Onejabug, Twojabug, Threejabug Four

Location: Mt. Hokulani

Professor Kukui had already headed back down the mountain on the Exeggutor Bus, leaving me and Rotom Dex at the Hokulani Observatory for our next Trial.

"Roto! Elliott, there izz a meteor shower tonight!"

"Really?" I said. I looked up at clear-blue sky. "Imagine seeing it from a place like this. The sight must be magical."

We heard the doors to the observatory open as Molayne appeared. "Oh," he said. "Still here?"

"Erm, yeah?" I replied. "I came to take on the Trial. May I see the Captain please?"

Molayne's face turned to mile concern. "Well… he may not be ready. He's having some… problems."

"Problemzz?" Rotom Dex asked. "What kind of problemzz? Roto."

Location: Hokulani Observatory

Around us, scientists were walking around with stacks of papers filled with stuff I'm not even going to try and figure out.

"So, what type of space do you research?" I asked. I've always loved the idea of space. Maybe because I've watched too many sci-fi films, but when I was a kid, I got giddy about the thought of getting into a rocket ship and blasting off into the cosmos. Different planets, constellations and maybe even Pokémon. Apparently, there is a species called Deoxys who arrived to earth on a meteorite.

"We research extra-terrestrial Pokémon," Molayne replied. "The satellites we have can pick up signals that we believe might be UFOs."

"Molayne," asked a female Scientist. She was rolling a steel trolly with a Pokémon on top of it. It looked like a pink star with brown ears.

On late nights illuminated by shooting stars, it gazes intently skyward, as if thinking of home.

Baby Pokémon.

"So Cleffa potentially came from space," I said.

"Which is why we are quite busy preparing for the meteor shower tonight," Molayne replied. "Ah yes. Let's take you to Sophocles' room. He's the Trial Captain."

We went to a room with a spaceship on the door. Molayne knocked on it and it opened. Upon opening, we saw a chubby (really hope that did not come off as rude) kid with orange hair. He was wearing a shirt with a picture of two Nintendo Gameboys on it with the link cable attaching the two. He also had some Pokémon with him. On the floor was a round-white Pokémon with multiple quills.

When it's surprised or agitated, the 14 fur spikes on its back will stand up voluntarily.

Togedemaru has no known evolutions.

There was also a round table with nine green Pokémon on it. They were all rectangular and looked like batteries.

"Oh," said presumably Sophocles. "Who are you?"

"Thizz izz Elliott, Roto. He'zz taking on the Trialzz of Alola, and he wantzz to take you on if you're not buzy, which we're conzzerned you might be. Zzt zzt."

"I'm not," he said. "Because… this IS the Trial!"

"Wait what?" I asked.

Trial: Start!

"So… what do I do?" I asked.

"Help me charge up this thing!" Sophocles said, bringing out an invention that looked like a blue Pokémon with a taser for a mouth. "We need to charge it up to charge up another device! So, please put the Charjabug in the right position. The Charjabug have to be rotated and moved about. They are called Onejabug, Twojabug through to Ninejabug."

"Okay," I said as some squares lit up. I put each Charjabug in the right place, and the squares turned off. The Charjabug started sparkling which allowed the invention to get a good dose of power.

"Hey," Molayne said. "We have company."

Through the doors came a yellow Pokémon with black stripes and socket-like ears.

When it's in a house, electrical outlets serve as baby bottles. It sucks down electricity.

Baby Pokémon.

"Here it comes!" Sophocles said.

"Go Hariyama!" I shouted. Elekid started with Electro Ball, firing a yellow ball at Hariyama. Hariyama then slapped Elekid.

"Smelling Salts that's called," Molayne said. "If the opposing Pokémon is paralyzed, it's healed of the condition but also takes 2x damage from the move! Shame Elekid can't be paralyzed."

Elekid then used Thunder Punch, but it missed. "Hariyama, Vital Throw!" Hariyama threw Elekid, defeating it.

"What a great start!" said Sophocles. "Keep it up!"

"Will do," I said, as the mechanism started powering up. Sophocles took it and put it in another machine that barely did anything. "Sophy, we need more power!"

"Got it!" Sophocles replied as more squares lit up. I put the Charjabug on different squares again, allowing for more charge to go into the machine. It started working pretty fast. "Uh oh," Sophocles said. "We have more company!"

Through the doors came an Electabuzz, a Pokémon that was a bit like Elekid but bigger and hairier.

Electricity permeates its body. It swings its arms round and round to charge up electricity before unleashing a punch.

Elekid (B) -Lv 30- Electabuzz

"Let's use Torracat!" I shouted. Electabuzz started with Thunder Punch. "Okay Torracat, Fire Fang!" Torracat chomped down on Electabuzz with its flaming teeth. Electabuzz then used Swift, firing stars at Torracat. "Now use Bite!" Torracat bit down on Electabuzz for a Critical Hit, knocking it out!

"Look at it go!" I said, just as it started sparking wildly. In that moment we all went from excited to concerned. "Err, Sophocles. I think this is too much."

A red alert started going through the conservatory. "It'zz gonna blow! Roto!" Rotom Dex shouted.

"Wait," I said. "Look! Above us!"

Above us was a Togedemaru, but much bigger.

"It's the Totem Pokémon!" Sophocles shouted.

Totem Togedemaru came down and absorbed the electricity, saving the day.

"That's Lightning Rod," Molayne explained. "It forces Electric Type moves to hit Togedemaru. Very useful in Doubles."

But the electricity it stored was too much. It looked at me.

"You wanna battle?" I asked. "Yeah! Let's let off some charge!"

Elliott Vs. Totem Togedemaru

Totem Togedamaru's Defense rose.

"Okay Slowpoke, go!" I shouted. Totem Togedemaru started up by curling up into a ball then charging into Slowpoke. It flinched.

"It's Zing Zap!" said Sophecles. "It's an Electric Type move that can cause the opponent to flinch!"

Totem Togedamaru used Zing Zap again, knocking out Slowpoke. "Thanks, my friend," I told it. "Okay Toucannon, go!" I shouted. Another Pokémon at a disadvantage. "Use Rock Smash!" Toucannon hit Togedamaru, lowering its Defense. Totem Togedamaru came back with Zing Zap, almost finishing it off in one. Then, Totem Togedamaru started calling. At that moment, an orange Pokémon with black antennas coming from its cheeks arrived.

Dedenne (デデンネ)

It sneaks into people's homes and steals electricity from their outlets. When your electric bill seems off, it's the handiwork of this rascal.

Dedenne has no known evolutions.

Dedenne rubbed its cheeks, then rubbed them against Toucannon. It was down.

"That'zz Nuzzle! Roto! It doezz little damage but alwayzz paralyzzezz! Zzt zzt!"

I recalled Toucannon. "For a Pokémon with a disadvantage, you did great. Okay Snorlax, you do great to!" From flyer to fat, Snorlax entered. Togedamaru used Zing Zap and then Dedenne used Nuzzle, paralyzing Snorlax. "Snorlax, Body Slam!" Snorlax jumped onto the poor Dedenne, doing quite a bit to it. Totem Togedemaru used Zing Zap again, and Dedenne used Nuzzle. However, Snorlax couldn't move because of paralysis.

"This isn't good!" Sophocles said.

Another Zing Zap and a Thunderbolt from Dedenne and I knew I had to do something. "Snorlax, Rest!" Snorlax went to sleep, healing its HP and curing its paralysis.

"Great! Roto! But now Snorlax izz to sleepy to move!"

Togedamaru this time used Discharge, sending sparks everywhere. Dedenne used Thunderbolt back. Then… Snorlax used Body Slam?! Whatever, it finished Dedenne! "But Snorlax is asleep!" I shouted. "It can't use anything!"

"Except Sleep Talk!" said Sophocles. "Well, that and Snore. Sleep Talk is a move that randomly selects an attack whilst the user is asleep! Use it with Rest and it can be really useful!"

"Useful or not," I said. "Snorlax won't do much on Totem Togedemaru, so let's give it a break." I recalled Snorlax. "Go Torracat!" I shouted. "Use Fire Fang!" Torracat chomped down on Totem Togedemaru with its hot teeth. In retaliation, Totem Togedemaru used Zing Zap back for a Critical Hit! "Now use Double Kick!" Torracat kicked Totem Togedemaru twice. Then Totem Togedemaru used Zing Zap again, finishing it off.

"Such power!" Molayne said.

"Hariyama, let's do this!" I yelled. "Fake Out!" Whilst not very effective, it did make Totem Togedemaru flinch. It came back with another Zing Zap. "Now Hariyama, Vital Throw!" Hariyama threw Totem Togedemaru, finishing it off.

"Alright!" Sophocles said. "You did it!"

"Great job Elliott! Roto!"

Molayne smiled. "He calmed it down. Not bad. Maybe I'll see more strength when Kukui's project is completed."

Sophocles looked at his ruined invention. It was smoking and no longer functioning. "Aww… my machine is totalled."

I put my hand on his shoulder. "At least Totem Togedemaru came in to stop it."

Sophocles went into his pocket. "This… is for you!" he said. "Proof of your trial victory!" This was yellow.

I got… an Electrium Z!

"Let me show you the ropes," Sophocles said. He put out his arms in front, then made a lightning bolt formation with them. "This will allow you to use a very strong Electric Type move!"

"Great!" I said.

"Okay," Molayne said. "Let's go get that stuff set up for the meteor shower!"

Location: Mount Hokulani

Upon coming out of the observatory, I met Hau who had arrived on the Exeggutor bus.

"Hey!" Hau said. "Just done the Trial?"

I held up my latest Z-Crystal. "You bet! You also here to watch the meteor shower?"

"Yep!" he said. "And get my next Crystal tomorrow!"

Later that night, the five of us watched the beautiful shower on top of the mountain.

"So beautiful, Roto," Rotom Dex said.

"Yeah," I replied. "I wonder what Lillie would think of this?"

"Hellllooo," Hau said. "You wish Lillie was here with you?"

I went red in the face. "I mean, no. Nebby would hate it."

Hau lay back. "What is up with that Pokémon anyway?"

Just then, a meteor came down and hit the Exeggutor Bus. "Oh, come on!" said the bus driver.

Rotom's Move Dex!

Zzt! Hey Trainerzz! Today Elliott got his Electrinium Z! Roto! So, it'zz time for an Electric Type move!

Zap Cannon!

Earlier, we saw Dedenne uzze Nuzzle! But that izz juzzt a weaker, more reliable verzzion of one of the strongezzt Electric Type attackzz called Zap Cannon! It will alwayzz paralyzze the opponent, but alzzo hazz a power of 120! However, thizz izz at the expenzze of a piddling 50 accuracy, so be careful. Roto.

Pokémon that can uzze Zap Cannon include Ampharos, Magnezone and Vikavolt!
