Chapter 36:
The Busted Bus
Location: Mt. Hokulani
"No no no!" said the Bus Driver of the Exeggutor Bus. "My bus! I'm not even insured!"
"You have a bus business, and you don't even insure it?" I asked. "Is it too hard to sign up for Treecko and get 15% off?"
"Nah," he said. "The damage isn't too extreme. I'll have someone fix it."
"Until then," said Hau. "It's trial time baby!"
Molayne smiled. "Sophocles is in the Observatory. Good luck!"
Hau ran off towards the Observatory whilst me and Molayne investigated the round-brown rock that was on the bus. "Let's start by getting it off," I said, sending out Hariyama. Hariyama lifted the giant meteorite off and onto the floor. It had a small crack in with something red sticking out. "Hey," I said. "Something is inside! Is that a Pokémon?"
"I think it izz. Roto."
Minior (メテノ) (Meteor Form)
#277
Rock/Flying Type
Meteor Pokémon
1'00" (0.3 m)
88.2 lbs (40 kg)
It lives in the ozone layer, where it becomes food for stronger Pokémon. When it tries to run away, it falls to the ground.
Whilst Minior has no known evolutions, it's Shields Down Ability makes it change form after taking enough damage.
"Let's find out!" I shouted. "Hariyama, crack it open!" Hariyama tore away the rock, revealing Minior's core form. It looked like a red star.
Minior (メテノ) (Core Form)
#277
Rock/Flying Type
Meteor Pokémon
1'00" (0.3 m)
0.7 lbs (0.3 kg)
It its core stays exposed, it will soon die off. It's possible that it may survive if it's put into a Pokéball quickly enough.
Whilst Minior has no known evolutions, it's Shields Down Ability makes it change form after taking enough damage.
"Leave it to me!" said Molayne, throwing a Pokéball at Minior. It was caught. "That was close. Don't worry, there is a way to get Minior back into space. When Sophocles has finished his trial, I'll get his invention. Until then, feel free to have a look around the mountain. There are lots of Pokémon to see."
Molayne was right; there were quite a few. One of the Pokémon I saw was blue with flashing fingers and a blue head.
Elgyem (リグレー)
#275
Psychic Type
Cerebral Pokémon
1'08" (0.5 m)
9 kg (19.8 lbs)
This Pokémon is shrouded in mystery. It's said to have appeared from a UFO that fell from the sky about 50 years ago.
As I went down the road, a Hiker spotted me.
"I hear the Exeggutor Bus is broken. Why ride when you can hike anyway?!"
Elliott Vs. Hiker Thomas
"Boldore, go!" Thomas shouted, sending out his Rock Type.
"Then I'll use Slowpoke!" I replied.
"Boldore, Rock Slide!" Boldore made rocks fall from the sky and onto Slowpoke.
I put both hands in front of me. "It's time to show tidal wave power higher than this very mountain! HYDRO VORTEX!" Slowpoke swamped the area in water. With Boldore getting caught in it, Slowpoke swam round and round, creating a whirlpool that bashed Boldore. It was barely standing because of Sturdy. Forgot to account for that.
"Now Boldore, Rock Slide again!" Boldore made more rocks fall onto Slowpoke.
"Water Pulse!" Slowpoke fired a ball of water at Boldore, finishing it.
"Well let's see how you deal with an Electric Type! Geodude!" Out came a Geodude, but blue and with black eyebrows.
Geodude (イシツブテ( (Alolan Form)
#298
Rock/Electric Type
Rock Pokémon
1'04" (0.4 m)
44.8 lbs (20.3 kg)
Its round body makes it easy to pick up, but it is hard and heavy. It's dangerous to play with them as if they were snowballs.*
*Not sure why you would do that anyway, that is bound to cause concussions without the explosions.
"Thanks," I told Slowpoke. "Now I'm using Hariyama!" My Fighting Type came out.
"Geodude, Thunder Punch!" Geodude's fist started sparking, and it punched Hariyama.
"Now use Vital Throw!" Hariyama threw Geodude. It was a Critical Hit! But it also had Sturdy so it wasn't quite knocked out.
"Geodude, use Thunder Punch again!" Geodude punched Hariyama a second time.
"Use another Vital Throw!" Hariyama chucked Geodude a second time, winning me the match.
"Actually, I'm tired. I'm taking the bus down when it's been fixed."
After my battle, Molayne came running up. "Sophocles is ready!"
We made it back to the Observatory to see a small rocket ship. Like, really small. It had a section in the top that looked like it could fit a Pokéball in.
"So…" I asked. "What does this do?"
"It's called…" said Sophocles. "The Minior Return-To-Space-er!"
"You could work on the name a bit, Roto."
"Allow me to explain," Molayne said. "A Pokéball featuring Minior, or any other species, is placed in this compartment." Molayne got out the Pokéball he used to catch Minior and put it in there. "Then the rocket blasts off into space. Once it's reached the ozone layer, a special compartment in the slot squeezes the Pokéball so that it breaks, allowing Minior to return to its friends."
The idea was genius. It was the execution I was concerned about. "So, how do we power this thing?" I asked. "Do we have to pat our legs like we're on a kids show?"
"Nope!" Sophocles said. "It's powered using Electric Type moves! If I may. Go Tenjabug!" Out came a Pokémon that looked like Sophocles' invention yesterday.
Vikavolt (クワガンノン)
#036
Bug/Electric Type
Stag Beetle Pokémon
4'11" (1.5 m)
99.2 lbs (45 kg)
It produces electricity via an electrical organ in its abdomen. It overwhelms bird Pokémon with shocking beams of electrical energy.
Grubbin -Lv 20- Lv. Up in a Magnetic Area- Vikavolt
"Vikavolt, use Disch-"
"Hold on," said Hau. "Go Raichu!" he shouted, sending out his Pokémon. "I feel like this would be the perfect opportunity to give my Z-move a go!"
"Great idea!" I shouted. "Let's see it!"
Hau looked at Raichu. "Just like we practiced buddy." Hau put his hands out in front. "Minior, with the power of Z-energy, we will get you back into space!" Both Hau and Raichu made a lightning bolt shape with their arms. "GIGAVOLT HAVOC!" Raichu suddenly shot a burst of electricity at the rocket ship, powering it up immediately.
"Okay," said Sophocles, getting out a gadget that made the rocket start flying upwards. It kept going higher and higher.
"Good luck Minior!" we shouted.
Up and up it went, going out of sight. "Uh oh," Sophocles said. "We… have a situation."
We looked on the screen of his gadget. There was a large-green serpentine Pokémon.
"That can't be!" I shouted. "The Legendary Rayquaza?"
"Yeah," Sophocles said.
Rayquaza bit down on the camera of the ship, destroying it.
"NOOOOO!" I shouted. "MINIOR!"
"Hey," Sophocles said. "It might have escaped. This happens from time to time. Time to invent a new ship I suppose."
"Hey," said the Bus Driver. "The Exeggutor Express is ready!"
"Great!" I said. "Sophocles, Molayne. Thanks. I will be back at some point. And Soph. Let's have a battle at some point!"
"You're on!" replied Sophocles.
Location: Malie City
Me, Hau and Rotom Dex returned to Malie.
"That was an exhausting couple of days," I said. "But we're finally back on ground level."
"Oh great," said Hau. Coming over to us, was a Team Skull Grunt.
"What do you want?! Roto!"
"Nothin," he said. "No, we want to let you know that yo boy Guzma is ready to see you tomorrow. Noon, at Malie Garden. Be there or be beaten up by Team Skull yo!"
"Elliott, what's going on?" Hau asked.
"Ah, yeah, I kinda forgot about this. I may have pressed Team Skull a bit too much and I now have to battle their leader…"
"You didn't!" Hau said. "Just because you can plough through Team Skull minions doesn't mean you'll have nearly an easy time with their boss!"
"Now hold on! Roto!" Rotom Dex said. "This is Elliott we're talking about! He'zz really strong! Wish him luck! Zzt zzt!"
Hau smiled. "You're right. Go show that Skull whose boss!"
I gulped. "I'll try…"
Rotom's Move Dex!
Up, up and away! Roto! We got the Flying Type Minior into space today. And alzzo, potentially gave Rayquaza it'zz dinner but anyway, today izz a Flying Type move!
Tailwind!
You know that feeling when you're running onto a windy day and the wind izz behind you and you run really fazzt? Roto? THAT is Tailwind! It'zz a move that powerzz up all your Pokémon'zz Speed for four turnzz! Roto!
Pokémon that can learn Tailwind include Butterfree, Lumineon and Noivern.
Now I'm gonna try that wind analogy I juzzt mentioned! Roto! Need to find some wind…
