The Trial of Paint

Akala Island – Ula'ula Island

Location: Malie City

Having reached Ula'ula Island yesterday, it was time to head up Mt Hokulani to challenge Sophocles.

"I can't wait! Roto! Sopheclezz izz such a smart guy!"

"I know," I said. "We've come so far…"

Location: Mt. Hokulani

We got off the Exeggutor Bus and got out once again at the breath-taking observatory.

"Back here!" I said. "And look!" We once again got to see Mt. Lanakila. On the top, we saw the Pokémon League getting that little bit closer to completion. "We're almost there. Okay, enough dilly dally! Let's go find Sophocles!"

Location: Hokulani Observatory

I walked through the busy area and went to Sophocles' room. When I opened the door, I saw him and Molayne. Sophocles was red and puffy from crying.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Molayne has to go," Sophocles replied. "He apparently has some… *sniff* important to do."

Molayne knelt down. "I promise I'll come and see you again. I won't be far at all, but you will have to be independent for a bit." Molayne saw me. "I'll see you soon to Elliott." He walked swiftly passed me.

"I'm happy to delay our battle if you want to come to terms with things," I said.

"Elliott, you are so thoughtful. Roto."

"No!" Sophocles said. "I will prove Molayne right! I can do this! I will challenge you! Right now!"

Elliott Vs. Trial Captain Sophocles

"Go Togedemaru!" shouted Sophocles, sending out his spiky Steel Type.

"And I'll be using Incineroar!" I replied.

"Zing Zap!" Togedemaru covered itself in sparks then rammed itself into Incineroar.

"Come back with Flamethrower!" Incineroar shot fire at Togedemaru. It almost downed it.

"Now use Pin Missile!" Togedemaru fired some of its spikes at Incineroar.

"Finish it with Flamethrower!" Incineroar shot more fire at Togedemaru, knocking it out.

"Oh, thanks Togedemaru. Okay Golem, go!" This was Golem's Alolan Form. It was grey, had some hair on its chest and what looked like a taser-like shape on its back.

It fires rocks charged with electricity. Even if the rock isn't fire that accurately, just grazing an opponent will cause numbness and fainting.

I decided to recall Incineroar for Hariyama. "Let's do this! Fake Out!" Hariyama clapped at Golem, making it flinch. "Now Close Combat!" Hariyama punched Golem many times, but it didn't quite finish it off.

"Okay Golem, use Thunder Punch!" Golem punched Hariyama with its sparking fist.

I saw energy circle around Hariyama, then in punched Golem. "Rotom, what's that move?"

"Reversal! Roto! It doezz more damage the lezz HP Hariyama hazz!"

Golem was finished. "Didn't matter anyway. Go Tenjabug!" Out came Vikavolt.

"And I'll be used Lunala!" I shouted. The Legendary Pokémon practically filled up the room. "Use Moongiest Beam!" Lunala fired a beam with the power of the moon at Vikavolt, doing a lot to it.

"Now time to show you some Z-power!" Sophecles made the lightning bolt shape with his arms. "Time to charge it up! GIGAVOLT HAVOC!" Vikavolt gathered up electricity in front of its taser mouth, then fired the blast at Lunala. It took it.

"Now use Shadow Ball!" One dark blob at Vikavolt was finished.

"Hey, that cheered me up a bit!"

Sophocles got me a Yellow Petal out. "That's the lot!" he said. "Nanu was going to do it… wait, it's Nanu. He never wants to do anything. I've got his petal to."

"We've got all the Petals!" I said. "Now, back to Poni Island! You know what that means?"

"NOOOOO! ROTO! NOT MORE SURFING!"

Ula'ula Island – Poni Island

"YAHOO!" I said as I did flips and avoided the rocks and Pokémon.

"I DON'T LIKE THIZZ! ROTO!"

Location: Seafolk Village

"Mina! Mina!" I shouted, running to the artist with petals in hand. "I've got them all! The Petals!"

"Impressive," Mina said. "But this is the final Trial, so I'm going to throw a curveball at you. You have to battle me first."

"WHAT?! ROTO?!"

"I'm down for that!" I said. "My last pre-trial graduate battle before the Totem… this doesn't make sense. Battle time!"

"Go Mawile!" shouted Mina. Out came… a yellow thing with a black mouth protruding from its head.

Mawile has no known evolutions.

"Okay Incineroar, go!" I shouted. A Fire Type against a Steel Type; piece of cake. "Flamethrower!" Incineroar blasted fire at Mawile, doing lots to it though not quite enough to knock it out.

"Use Play Rough!" Mawile started attacking Incineroar savagely.

"Finish with Flamethrower!" Incineroar blasted more fire at Mawile, defeating it.

"Okay, if that's how you want to do it. Granbull, go!" Out came the brutal looking pink pure Fairy Type.

"Come back," I told Incineroar. "Now let's use Lunala!" My Legendary came out once again. "Moongeist Beam!" A blast of lunar was shot at Granbull.

"Now use Crunch!" Granbull chomped down on Lunala for massive damage. Forgot about that move.

"Use Shadow Ball!" This move finished off Granbull.

"This piece of art is almost finished. Go Ninetales!" An Ice Type was to finish.

"Slowbro!" I shouted, sending out my Water Type.

"Let's show you some pixie power!" It was time to see the Fairy Type Z-move in action. Mina, with Ninetales doing the same position with its tails, made a heart shape. Then, Mina got on one leg and put both arms out. "TWINKLE TACKLE!" Ninetales charged towards Slowbro, then rammed into it. Stars came off of it as it did this.

"You okay?" Slowbro was fine. "Now let's use Psychic!" Slowbro blasted Ninetales with Psychic energy.

"And come back with Dazzling Gleam!" Ninetales shone, hitting Slowbro in the process.

I got my Z-Crystal ready. "Let's now make a splash!" I made a wave-motion with my arms. "HYDRO VORTEX!" We found ourselves in water as Slowbro swam round Ninetales quickly. The whirlpool bashed it about, almost defeating it.

"Use Dazzling Gleam!" Ninetales shone once more, finally knocking out Slowbro.

"Thanks," I told it. "Go Mismagius!" My other Ghost Type came out. "Shadow Ball!" Mismagius fired a black ball at Ninetales, finishing it off.

"Nice piece of art indeed."

Mina took a deep breath in, and then out. "Thanks. You know, there is a Trainer in the Kalos region who makes a debate about whether Pokémon battles are an art form. And… I do. They are as much of an art form as a painting in a museum. You have demonstrated that. Now heal at the Pokémon Center."

"Erm… okay?" I replied. I mean I was going to do that anyway, but still.

One quick heal and I left the Pokémon Center. All of a sudden, the entire Seafolk Village seemed quiet. No one was there. Even the Magikarp that swam underneath were gone.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Where could everyone have gone? Roto?"

I walked along the pier, when I thought I could hear fluttering. "Stop that Rotom," I said.

"It'zz not me. Roto. It'zz that!" I looked behind me to see a Pokémon that was yellow with clear wings. It looked larger than it should have been. "That muzzt be it! The Totem! Zzt zzt!" Rotom Dex said.

"It is!" I said. "The last Totem Pokémon of my Alola journey! Let's make this last battle count!"

Elliott Vs. Totem Ribombee

All of Ribombee's stats rose; my Alola trails were clearly going out with a bang.

"Incineroar, go!" I shouted. Ribombee started by dancing all over the places, scattering spores.

"Uh oh! Roto! It'zz uzzing Quiver Dance! It raizzezz Sp. Attack, Sp. Defenzze and Speed!"

"This thing is getting dangerous. Incineroar, Flamethrower!" Incineroar shot fire at Ribombee for a direct hit, but it didn't quite do half. Ribombee started calling, and a Pelipper appeared. "No fair! That's not a Fairy Type!" I guess that's what Mina was going on about; expecting the unexpected. Ribombee used Bug Buzz doing some damage to Incineroar before Pelipper finished it off with Hydro Pump.

"A Pokémon down already? Roto?!"

"It's only one! Go Lunala!" Out came my Legendary. Ribombee used Dazzling Gleam, by hitting Lunala with a bright light. "Now Moongeist Beam on Pelipper!" Lunala shot a beam at Pelipper. It almost went down. Pelipper then came back with Seed Bomb. This, surprisingly, included firing exploding seeds at Lunala. Ribombee used another Dazzling Gleam. Lunala almost fell to that. "Shadow Ball!" Lunala finished of Pelipper before succumbing to Ribombee's Bug Buzz.

"It took down a Legendary?! Roto?!"

"It's not over yet! Go Mismagius!" Out came my Ghost Type. Ribombee used Dazzling Gleam, doing a lot to Mismagius who then came back with a Shadow Ball. Ribombee then started calling, and a Blissey appeared.

Another Dazzling Gleam was fired as Mismagius, taking it down. But things got worse; Blissey used Heal Pulse. This healed Ribombee's wounds!

"Oh, come on!" I said. "Okay, this fluffy pink think is gonna pay! Go Hariyama!" Out came a Fighting Type who very nearly went down because of a Dazzling Gleam. "Reversal!" Hariyama surrounded itself in blue energy and punched all of Blissey's HP away before Ribombee finished things with a Bug Buzz.

"Two Pokémon left! You've got thizz! Roto!"

"Heck yeah, I do! Go Slowbro!" I shouted. Another Bug Buzz hit, and Slowbro almost fell. "Use Psychic!" Slowbro blasted Totem Ribombee with Psychic energy, but it didn't do too much. The Bug Buzz finished it off.

"Lazzt Pokémon! Roto! Make it count!"

"Heck yeah I will!" I said. "Snorlax, go!" Out came my Normal Type. A Bug Buzz hit, but Snorlax tanked it. "Let's use Heavy Slam!" Snorlax jumped onto Ribombee. It was a massive hit! Totem Ribombee was down!

"We did it! Roto!"

At that point, everyone came running out to clap me. I got onto Snorlax's belly (it didn't mind, it was sleeping) and waved at everyone. I saw Mina holding up a painting of me battling Totem Ribombee. She pushed through the crowd to show me.

"I'll send this home to you if you want," she said.

"Okay," I said, telling her my address.

"And this is for you." Mina then gave me a pink Z-Crystal with fairy wings in it.

I obtained… the Fairinium Z!

After the crowd dispersed, I had a talk to Mina. She had already showed me the Fairy Type Z Move pose, so she didn't need to show me again.

"You were a bit mad," she said. "Not a single Z-Move used!"

"I had no need to!" I said.

"No need?! Zzt zzt! Elliott, there were some tight spotzz! But you know, I have thizz feature that might-"

"Nope!" I said. "Professor Kukui told me about your Roto Lotto feature and I don't want to make my journey too easy."

Mina smiled. "You do like a challenge, don't you?"

"You bet!" I said. "That's not the only example! When I battled the leader of Team Skull for the first time, I actually took off my Z-Ring!"

"Yeah yeah, amazing," said Hapu who appeared riding Mudsdale. "The milk and cookies don't start yet! I'm the Kahuna, and you need to beat me to get your final stamp. Afterwards, it's to the Alola League which, I can confirm, has finished construction!"

"Alright!" I said. "Where shall we meet tomorrow Hapu?"

"Exeggutor Island," she replied.

"It's a deal!" I replied. What a great place to finish my Alola campaign.

Rotom's Move Dex!

Zzt! The lazzt Totem Pokémon defeated! And it wazz a Fairy Type! What Fairy Type movezz are left? Erm… how about…

Let'zz switch thingzz up! A Signature move!

Floral Healing!

Floral Healing izz a move that can actually heal the oppozzing Pokémon! Half itzz HP specifically! And on Grassy Terrain, it can heal up to 2/3 of it! But why would you do that? Erm… I dunno. Reversal and Flail will do lezz? Oh, to help catch a Pokémon! Yeah, that helpzz! Roto! Have it on hand for Shiniezz!

The only Pokémon that can learn thizz move izz Comfey.

I think I'm starting to run out of movezz. Roto.
