Today was going to be a good day.
I sat up on my bed, stretching my slightly sore body from yesterday's workout. It was more of a personal thing at this point. It's been a while since Mina has been around too. Damn time flies, feeling older already. Anyways I looked around. Same old shit, different day. I made sure my prosthesis was alright before starting my day.
As always, I commenced my normal routine, having a staring contest with the bathroom mirror in front of me. My fingers traced the one scar that ran from the right of my nose to the bottom of my chin, going through my lips. I would have hated them if they didn't make me look cool and mysterious.
I got out of there, got dressed up in my usual and headed downstairs.
Only to see some... Hobo? Some scraggly looking guy was at the front of my door at the moment, his eyes burning holes into my face.
Wait a minute, I know this homeless man!
Shouta Aizawa, also known as Eraser Head I think. Weird name, sounds too nice for a guy like him.
"Aizawa!" I greeted the guy, clearly he wasn't in the best mood. As always, to be honest.
He grunted.
"Well damn, don't be so grumpy, it'll bleed onto me." I said, resulting in another groan from the insomniac.
"I don't even know why I was assigned to you. They should've just thrown you in jail and be done with it." The man callously muttered.
"Well that ain't a nice thing to say at all, how else could they have compensated for my such good deeds!?" I smirked as his expression soured even more.
"You broke the law."
"Yet here I am."
"Unfortunately."
"You sound like ya hate me..."
The man laid down on one of the booths in the corner.
"Dontcha got a school to teach?" I asked.
"I don't have to go in for about 30 minutes, so I'll be asleep."
"Hey wait a damn minute-"
But he was already knocked out in his sleeping bag (where did that come from?). I knew he slept like a rock, so I let him be. The only ones who were assigned to me were Yamada and Aizawa, they were close by in their routes and they felt that they would be enough to subdue me if needed. Apparently things like confidentiality and that nature due to the incident. Besides, like I would do anything, right?
If they really wanted to stop me, they would need more than this. Even without my quirk.
Ah, yes, my quirk. My power. I'm pretty sure you're curious, huh?
Well don't worry that'll come later. It's not as if some random situation happens that causes me to use it, right? Right.
I looked as Aizawa woke up from his doze and looked at me.
"Don't do anything stupid please." He muttered.
"Yeah yeah, just scram." I said.
He threw a wave over his shoulder as he left. Freeloader. Just barging in here and taking a fucking nap. He even acts like a hobo...
~~~~~
It was midday pretty much, a calm crowd sat in my little shop. I always liked it like this. Not too many customers where I am absolutely bombarded with orders, but not too small so I don't go broke here. It was a calm in between.
Probably because pizza ain't as popular in Japan...
Oh well, I do what I do best and have fun doing it. As I gave off my next order, I got a slight gut feeling. It was weird, the hair on my body stood up on my skin, feeling as if someone sprayed me with cold water or something like that. Well, Usually my gut is always right about things so I felt the slightly bad feeling that went through my body. It wouldn't hurt to use it, right? Just a little glimpse.
...
Aw shit.
"EVERYBODY GET DOWN OR GET OUT!!!" I yelled out in slight panic. The shitheads just looked at me as if I was crazy as I pointed towards the front. They looked and that's when the screams started. Fuck my life, I better get some type of reimbursement for what's about to go down.
I was knocked out of my thoughts as two people crashed into my poor little window as everyone panicked, running towards the exit. Glass littered the floor as a result. Yeah, get out while you can, I'm going down with this ship. I looked over towards the struggling people to see one toned ass woman with what seemed to be rabbit ears and feet.
Didn't honestly recognize her. I don't really pay too much attention to the hero stuff. After prying my eyes away from her legs, I see that she was currently tussling with was some big buff guy, sharp scales littered his incredibly muscular body as he tossed her outside my shop. He heaved, before looking at me.
"You..."
His face turned into a grin.
Fuck.
Should I?
It counts as self defense right?
It shouldn't be too bad, just a little scuffle is all.
Fuck it.
I channeled my quirk again, dodging the man's grab.
"Too slow for that, big man."
"You little fuck, get over here!"
"... Nah." I dodged and dodged until he hit one of my ovens.
My oven.
My precious oven.
The oven that has lovingly cooked so many delicious dishes.
The oven that stuck with me this whole time.
The oven that I put my fucking money into.
And the most aggregious of them all...
I didn't have a warranty on it.
This sucker was gonna pay big time.
"You fucking bitch!"
~~~~~
[Mirko POV]
I brushed off the rubble I created after my landing. This bitch thinks he can mess with me? Yeah right! I look towards what looks like some type of restaurant or whatever.
Shit. Someone's probably in there.
I kicked off, trying to end this bastard already, he already pissed me off way to much, claiming this was his debut as a villain or whatever he said. He chose the wrong person to fuck with.
However, as I got there, I saw something I didn't expect to see to be honest. The dude was already beaten, and what it looks like he got his shit handed to him with the way he was lying in his own pool of blood. I was kinda pissed I couldn't do it myself, but I looked up to see the cause of this to see... Some guy!? What the hell!?
"Who the fuck are you?"
"Uh... I'm just the pizza guy."
~~~~~
[Jason POV]
The hero glared hard at me, making me sweat, even though I already kind of knew the outcome of this whole ordeal.
I was hoping she took my half baked answer and took this bastard away, but she continued to just look at me. Sirens randomly out from behind as police came through towards the defeated criminal. Just play it cool Jason, just play it cool.
"Ah! M-mirko! I see you, uh, taken care of the threat." Stuttered out an obviously flustered policeman. I can understand, especially with what she was wearing, or was it fear...
She then looked at me as if began to sweat. I held a finger to my lips and stared directly at her. I could tell she was contemplating snitching on my ass. Thankfully, she sighed, seemingly understanding my plight as she responded.
"Yeah, yeah. Take him in." She said. Thank God, because I want nothing to do with-
And she is walking towards me, that pissed off expression told me everything. Fuck.
"What can I do for you, ma'am?" I said in the most innocent tone I could muster.
"Don't play dumb, dumbass! What the hell was that? What did you do?"
"Me? Nah, I dunno what happened here-"
"Bull! Shit! I know you did something to that bastard, so you better spit it out."
"Tch, why do you even wanna know? Don't you got more crime to fight and everything? And I'm hoping you're thinking of reimbursing all of my shit." I said, motioning towards the state mi amor was in.
"Not exactly my problem here." Okay then, rude bitch.
"So you're just gonna leave like you people always do? You didn't even ask if I or anybody else was alright!?" Ok yeah, I was being a little much, but I was never a fan of heroes.
"Well you look just fine to me!"
Always chasing that number one spot, even if it means disregarding lives and the livelihood of others, thinking of them as sacrifices for the greater good. I already had my fair share of these instances, it's almost funny to see they never change.
Pathetic.
She hardened her glare at me, her fists tightening, I also do in response. The policeman came back only to immediately shy away due to the sheer amount of malice pouring out of us.
"And to call you heroes, huh? Nothing else matters to you people but status and money..."
"..."
"U-um, sir, do you know who your talking too!?" He yelled from afar. I couldn't care less about who it was.
She didn't respond, she knew I had a point. The amount of property damage is crazy nowadays, but seems to be trivial with these guys. I'm just a common man, looking out for the little community going on here, but I see what's going on.
I always have.
She scowled at me.
"The hell do you think you're talking too!? Huh!?"
"Some short ass who isn't accountable. Hell, I didn't even need you to save me. So much for a hero." I said with a laugh.
Her eyes immediately widened and then quickly narrowed as a result. She was obviously pissed.
Me and my big mouth.
But I stand by what I said. I'd rather die standing than live kneeling, after all.
We engaged in a tense staring contest. Her eyes burrowing into mine. This lasted for a little while until she broke out into a grin. I expected it, but I couldn't figure out why to be honest.
"Now that's some guts right there. Standing up to me." She said.
I half expected her to try and cave my face in, but this works too.
"I guess?"
"Heh, usually people would clam up, surrender, or beg for mercy!" She claimed with a vicious look.
"I wonder why..."
"Hey, don't be smart with me, I'm complementing you here... Anyways I don't got time for this, I don't know what you did but I'll fucking find out!" She reached into her... Back pocket? Pulling out what appears to be a check book. She ripped one out and gave it to me.
"My agent said I should carry this thing around with me for shit like this. Get as much as you need." She said, before dipping.
The policeman who almost fainted ran over to me.
"What were your thinking, you almost got killed by the number 5 hero!! You're a lucky man!" He said before he ordered the clean up crew to come in and clean the debris.
I just... Stood there. A lot of shit just happened and apparently I talked shit to the No. 5 hero in Japan? What a day.
~~~~~
"And you did what!?"
It was later into the day when Aizawa got word of the little incident that happened. I didn't tell him about my "self defense". It wasn't brought up, so I let it be. I did tell him about how Mirko gave a check though.
"I didn't even do anything, the hell!?"
"What are you hiding from me?"
"Nothing, honest. Do you need a pinky swear?" I asked, putting my finger out.
He just glared at me, before sighing.
"At least nobody was hurt, some how it was as if... They knew... In advance!" His glare increased in intensity, shining a red as he realized. Well damn it.
"What else am I supposed to do? When I have to power to at least warn them, should I not?"
"Yes."
"So I should've just let them get pile drived by those guys then, huh? Not like a few injured would hurt you guys right?"
He stayed silent to that. Man, I was being petty today. I'll admit though I'm petty as all hell.
He slowly sighed as he massaged the sides of his head.
"Well, sorry for trying to save other people, my bad." I said, with my voice oozing with sarcasm. He groaned a little louder.
"Once."
"Eh?"
"I'm letting something like this go once, and one time only. As much as I would like to say something, you did prevent any type of casualty. We'll look at the cameras to investigate further.
Cameras?
Fuck.
"Well now, I don't think that is needed, you don't seem the most tech savvy and you already got the reports from me and the witnesses. What more do ya want?"
He glared at me suspiciously.
"Now I really do need to take a look at them..."
"Hey, hey, c'mon now. I know it's starting to get late and everything so why don't you on about your day?" I said with a smile.
He wasn't buying it.
"You did say you would look over it this one time, right?"
He sighed in response as he got up from one of the remaining booths we sat at.
"We'll, no one was hurt at least, but know this, I will be keeping an eye on you!" He glared at me, I couldn't do much but roll my eyes.
"Like you don't do that everyday. Now get outta here, I got shit to do." I said, now trying to focus on the repairs of my shop.
He quickly left a scene without a goodbye. Fucking bastard.
And now, I'm left with this fucking problem-
"MISTER MENDOZA!!!" I heard from the entrance, only to feel myself get damn near lifted off my feet when a pink missile flew at me.
"What the hell? Mina?" The hell was she doing here?
Worry was spread all throughout her face as she told me.
"I saw it on the news, I saw that they went inside here so I got worried!" She said. It was on the news!? I was hoping it didn't catch my little stunt.
"I was super worried, your like a weird uncle to me!" She muttered. I wasn't exactly sure if I was comfortable with that title.
Wait, weird!?
"And plus, I was worried I won't be able to get pizza anymore!!" She bemoaned with much more sadness. Hell, I'd be sad too if my favorite pizza joint got busted into it like that.
"Jeez, you act like I lost a leg or something." Heh.
She quickly cheered up however.
"Well I'm glad your ok!" She said with a big thumbs up.
"I appreciate the concern, Miss Ashido, you better run along now, you got training to get to, right?
"Oh yeah! I gotta run, stay safe Mister!!!" She yelled before quickly dashing off.
Geez, it's still dangerous around here with the rubble. What a kid. I sighed to myself, feeling the check in my pocket.
I could use a new oven.
~~~~~
As night fell I cleaned up as much as I could, trying to board up some of the holes in the front. However people are coming over right about now, I can tell, so I set aside some tea. I mean after living here I gained an appreciation for it.
Two sets of footsteps answered my prediction. What appeared through the wreck was Detective Tsukauchi and Aizawa.
The detective was a cool guy, I guess. Barely see him though.
"Jason." He curtly greeted.
"Tsukauchi." I responded in kind.
Aizawa kinda just stood there.
"May we take a seat somewhere?" He asked politely.
"Of course, of course." What manners, take lessons Aizawa! I motioned towards the undamaged booth.
They say down as I brought a small tray of tea.
"I see you changed a few things here." He said, looking around at the less then presentable restaurant.
"Well, I wanted to try something new,letting more air in here, y'know?"
The detective took the cup of tea with a thank you.
"Expecting someone?" He asked.
"Not really, just made more then I should." I lied as easily as I breathed.
Aizawa just glared at me a little harder.
Tsukauchi let the cup down as his face went serious.
"We have heard about the altercation that occured here around noon. Mirko encountered a start up villain trying to take her down to gain some reputation. He was tougher than thought. His quirk, hardened scales, made it difficult to get him down. Mirko was being a little cocky and played his game, she should've stopped him there. I requested this myself so I can get a better understanding of what went on here. However, when Mirko and him crashed into here and after she threw him out, this is what I saw..."
He pulled out what looks to be a tablet and pressed play on... The camera footage.
Damn it.
~~~~~
[3rd Person POV]
The video begins with the villain leering at Jason, as it shows him dodging the large man's arms. This continues until he hits one of the ovens, making the male pause, before launching an attack of his own.
Jason immediately rushed the villain, greatly surprising him. It was clear he wasn't experienced with this type of opponent. He tried to make a large swing, but Jason quickly ducked, and initiated his ass beating.
The villain was getting absolutely molly whopped, Jason sending an intense, precise, and deadly bombardment of fists into the man. It can be seen how he targeted the face, sides of the chest,and snuck a few towards the liver. He ended it off with a wind piercing punch, sending the villain to the ground. To make sure he was done he sent a heel kick with his real leg straight towards the reptilian male's temple, finishing him off.
The detective stopped the video, before looking at Jason with a hardened look.
"You used your quirk."
"It was in self defense!" He defended.
"But you still used it."
"What the hell was I supposed to do!?"
"Not whatever it is that you did!" He sighed, rubbing his forehead.
"They're looking for a way to throw you in jail, Mendoza, don't give them fuel to do so!" He yelled out.
"After what went down in the states, they would much rather jail you then having you inspire people to not rely on heroes. You know what I'm talking about."
"Tsukauchi, are you saying that I should've just died? Is that your bright idea?"
"Mendoza, there isn't an easy answer for this..." The detective muttered.
Aizawa then chipped in during the process.
"While it's illegal, it was in some way self defense. I don't usually do this, but I personally think that this should be your final warning." He said. He thought that at least it was in self defense.
The detective groaned, before glaring at Jason.
"Don't do anything you shouldn't. Please."
"Yeah... Wait, are y'all gonna keep this under wraps?"
"Can't, if I know about it, they definitely do. We'll try and argue for you though."
"Damn, really? I thank you." Jason said, bowing my head slightly with a smirk.
"Whatever, just don't do it again." Aizawa looked at the man sternly, only to receive a smile in response.
"No problem." He replied.
[Jason POV]
"Alright, it's time that we take our leave. I was told that policemen would come by and guard the place since you live here, well, it's mostly so you don't get out. Please, Jason, you're a good person, so stay out of trouble and stay safe. " Tsukauchi said, standing up along with Aizawa as they left.
Man. What a day.
What a fucking day.
I then remembered the check in my pocket, digging it out as I grinned a grin thay the grinch would be jealous of.
"As much as you need, huh, Mirko?"
~~~~~
And that's a wrap, thank you for reading! This was a fun one to write, I love involving the other characters of the Manga series. I can tell that I can have some fun with this. I also already written out the whole backstory for our dear main character. It doesn't mean you'll hear it all in one chapter, I'd rather show, not tell. Anyways, thanks for reading the second chapter of this story and I hope to see you soon! Buh bye ;)
