Chapter one
Never have I ever broken a promise
Hodgins and Angela had recently found a new dwelling to live in, they had been persistent with having a move-in dinner with all of their friends. It had been a job and a half gathering everyone on a date that worked for everyone. Angela had met Padme at an art exhibit and they had become good friends after that. It had come to a surprise when she found out who Padme's boyfriend was. "Booth, Jared Booth?" She had asked her in amazement.
"Yeah, Jared Booth. You know him?" She responded with a smile and a pair of furrowed brows.
"I know a Booth, I'm guessing Jared is the younger one." Angela asked her with a bright smile.
"He is, his brother is in the-" Padme got cut off.
"FBI, I know" Angela finished her sentence. "I work with him" She added with a wink.
"No fucking way, I knew the wrold was small, but not this small" She exhaled her words.
From this conversation Angela knew that this dinner would be out of this world. She knew that Booth was a two for one deal she didn't like, but had to live with. Hannah. The destroyer of love. She had to put on a face for Brennan, she knew that Brennan wanted nothing else than love and happiness for Booth. Even if it wasn't with her.
Hodgins hadn't had much to say about the dinner, Angela put everything together. Cam was a given to invite, no dinner was good without her. She wanted to throw Sweets in for good measure. He made dinners interesting in seconds by bringing up his psychobabble. She had asked Brennan first to make sure she couldn't back out of the event. She knew she hated being in a gathering with Hannah.

Days before the dinner, the day after the Eames case had ended, Brennan had tried to back out of it by saying that she had too much to do at work and she had to work late that night. Just that night. Angela didn't believe a word that came out of her mouth and didn't take no for an answer. "Angela please, do I really have to?" She had asked her.
"Sweetie, I know that you despise going to these kinds of gatherings" She paused and sat down in front of her. "But, I've let you back out of the last four dinners.." She said with pleading eyes.
"You did that on purpose, didn't you?" Brennan asked her in shock.
"Work smarter, not harder" Angela said leaning back and touching her temple. "Think about that" Brennan pouted and furrowed her brows.

Booth had been easy to invite. She had strolled into his office with a bright smile and a piece of apple pie. Cliche, she knew that, but a way to his heart (his yes) was pie. "And what do I owe the pleasure of having Mrs. Hodgins in my office with pie?"
"No, please, don't call me that, it's just Angela for you" She smiled and put down the pie on his desk. "Dinner next week, friday, 8pm" She gave him the information. "Be there or no pie" She said, holding on to the pie.
"Casual?" He asked, glancing at the pie. "Can Hannah come?" Knowing that he was looking at the pie Angela rolled her eyes.
"Yes and.. yes" She answered.
"We will be there, now come to papa" He said to the pie. "I was just thinking about pie, you know?" He said digging into the pie and smiling.
"I thought you were, Avalon has been teaching me a thing or two" She said and winked at him.
"I'm sure she has, was there anything else you needed today?" He smiled at her.
"No, that was all" She said. "I'll see you later."
She invited Sweets on the way to the elevator. She told him time and place, he responded with a huge smile and thumbs up. "I'll be there" He said and walked away.
"I know you will."
Cam had been a no brainer, she had planned the dinner with her. She knew her way around food better than Angela did, so she had helped her to decide what kind of food and dessert they would be serving at the dinner. When Angela got back to her office she sat back on her couch with a sketch pad in her hand and let out a satisfied sigh.

"Babe, can you open the door? I haven't put on my dress yet" Angela yelled from the bedroom. With her growing belly, dresses had become a privilege and a blessing at the same time.
"Of course, Angie" Hodgins called back and jogged up to the door. He happily opened it and let Cam and Sweets in.
"I'm sorry we're early, I thought it would take longer at the grocery store" Cam apologized before Hodgins could welcome them in.
"It's no worries, Cam." He said in a calm voice. "Welcome in guys" He gestured for them to step in. "You can hang your coats in the closet beside you there and I can take the food." He said as he took the bags from Cam's hands.
"Wow, what a place" Sweets exclaimed. "I love the high ceiling and dark flooring." He said looking around the living room.
"Thank you, I picked that out." Hodgins said with a smile and leaned closer. "The only thing Angie would let me pick out." Sweets laughed at his comment and continued to admire the structure of the living room. Before Hodgins could close the door, Brennan poked her head through.
"I'm sorry I'm early, there was no use of me staying at home longer than I did, so I thought I could help you with the food" She made her presence known.
"Brennan, Welcome" He greeted her.
"Brennan, is that you?" Angela called from the bedroom.
"Yes, it's me, Ange. You said my name and then asked if I was here, then you must have known I was here?" She said in confusion. Angelas laughter spread to the walls of the hallway.
"Yes, Sweetie, it's a figure of speech." She said with glee in her voice. "Can you come here?" She added. Brennan nodded, even though Angela couldn't see her and hung up her coat before walking in towards the bedroom.
"Sweetie" Angela exclaimed as she saw her best friend walking through the bedroom door. She waddled over to her and threw her arms around her. "You made it!" She squealed over her shoulder. "Please, help me zip this dress up." She said and turned around. Brennan glanced down at the zipper and took it between her long fingers. "You look amazing, sweetie. Is that the new blouse you bought the other day?" Brennan nodded once again without Angela being able to see her and hummed her response.
"There you go." She said and adjusted the back of the dress.
"Thank you, let's head downstairs before Booth and blondie arrive." Angela said and shimmied out of the room.
"Her name is Hannah" Brennan insisted.
"Yeah, and I can juggle five bowling balls that are on fire, but that doesn't mean I do it" Angela called back and Brennan supressed a smile.
"You can?" Brennan asked.
"Yeah, in my sleep" She turned around and winked at her.

Booth and Hannah showed up an hour later. Apparently Hannah had been away at a job on the outskirts of town and had just gotten back. They hung up their coats in the closet and the dinner was ready to be served. Booth pulled Brennan away from the room before they all sat down at the table. "Not now Booth, it's not the time for this discussion now" She said softly.
"You haven't talked to me in five days, Bones" Pain covering his voice.
"You know why that is, I'm fine, you're fine, everything is fine." She said, glancing up into his eyes. Big mistake. "Let's forget it happened, you have Hannah and I have.. Me" She said. "I never said anything, that case never happened. You never drove me home, that night.. meant nothing" She repeated.
"Please, I don't want this to put space between us. We didn't do anything, we just talked, we said things, sure, but I just.. I still want us to be.. us" He said quietly. Her eyes met his in a sincere glance before she gently put her arms around his waist in one of their famous guy hugs. Booth put his arms around her. His arms fell perfectly with her figure and her head fit perfectly with his. She couldn't let the moment go too far, so she let go.
"Let's go back in, the food is ready to be served." She said and quickly wiped away a few tears that had fallen without her feeling it. She walked inside and found the closest bathroom to freshen up before dinner. Booth put his hands on his hips and sighed before entering the dining room.
"It smells delicious." He exclaimed to make his presence known. During the few minutes they were away, Padme and Jared had arrived and they were helping with the food. The brothers greeted each other and they sat down on opposite sides of the table to be able to have their ladies to their left. Brennan walked into the room and saw one open seat. Next to Booth. "I saved you a seat." He said softly as he saw her walk into the room. Of course you did.. Brennan said to herself. She didn't know if it was with annoyance, sadness or with joy. Was she allowed to feel joy when it came to him? He had someone else now.

"-and so Jared took his bike and rode with the horses down the road." Padme put her hand on Jared's thigh. "It was amazing to see the horses so free" She said with sincerity in her voice.
"I can imagine the horses enjoyed that evening with you, even though the bike would have produced a lot of noise" Brennan exclaimed as Padme finished her story.
"We were able to feed them after the ride, you should have been there Temperance" Padme told her with a smile.
"Maybe next time, Padme" She smiled back at her with warmth in her eyes. She actually liked Padme and Jared a lot.
The dinner had been eaten and enjoyed an hour ago and now they sat comfortably in the living room. Angela made sure to sit next to Brennan and she wanted to sit as far away from the pair she sat beside at dinner. They ended up sitting beside Jared and Padme. Cam, Hodgins and Sweets shared the other couch as Booth and Hannah shared the love seat.
"I've never been on a motorbike before" Sweets chimed in. Everyone stopped talking and looked at him. "What? I haven't!" He exclaimed.
"Really, kid?" Booth asked.
"Yes, really, Booth," Sweets exclaimed. "Isn't there anything you haven't done?" He asked in defense.
"There probably is. " Booth said with a nonchalant tone.
"Let's make it a game." Hodgins exclaimed.
"Not everything is a game, Hodgins" Cam said in a teasing tone.
"Well, this is" He called back with a smile. "Everyone has played never have I ever, right?" He asked the group in front of him.
"Is that the game where you down your drink if you've done whatever is asked?" Brennan asked Hodgins. He smiled back at her.
"No, a drink of your choice. A shot, a sip or in Angela's case, orange juice, because it's what she's craving right now" He explained. "Wait, you chugged your drink for every time you've done the thing that has been said?" He asked her.
"We went around in a circle, but I'm guessing it's not going to go down like that here" She responded and cocked her brow.
"That's correct, Brennan" He said with a huge smile. "If someone says A never have I ever and you have done it, you drink, doesn't matter who asks it. Even if you've done what you asked, you drink." He said. "Is everyone game?" The group nodded and put their thinking faces on. "Never have I ever been to space" He said when he saw that no one came up with anything. Angela turned to look at him and she raised her brows. "What? No one said anything"
Cam smiled and glanced at Hodgins. "Never have I ever almost blown up the lab" He turned his head to her and gave her a mischievous smile. "Drink three times for that one, ." She said with laughter clouding her voice.
"Oh, oh" Angela chimed in. "Never have I ever kissed a coworker." She said, already putting her glass to her lips. Almost everyone put their glass to their lips, except Padme and Hannah. Padme only smiled at Jared and kissed him on the cheek. She knew all about those kisses. Hannah on the other hand glanced at Booth with furrowed brows.
"You have?" She asked him quietly.
"When you've worked together as long as we have, a few kisses here and there sneak past you" He said in the same tone but with a calmness clouding it.
"A shot for this one" Brennan said and poured two shots, because she knew that was all she needed. "Never have I ever been in the military" She said and gave the Booth brothers a shot each. "Drink up boys" They both gave her their charm smile and took the shot with ease.
Booth put down his shot glass and pointed towards his brother and girlfriend. "Never have I ever found love in India" He smiled. They smiled back and both took a sip from their glasses.
"Cam" Angela called out and Cam turned towards her. "Pour yourself a shot" She smiled and Cam sighed as she did what she was told. "Never have I ever.. Slept with someone's ex husband" She held her smile as Cam raised the glass to the air before taking the shot.
"Well, Angela, then pour Hodgins a shot and be ready to drink" The group laughed at the back and forth between the pair. Angela did as she was told and held her glass up. "Never have I ever had my boss find my sextape." Cam smiled as she said the words. Angela gasped before eventually taking a sip from her orange juice. Hodgins sat there with his glass in his hand in shock.
"Oh, you knew this, Hodgins, drink up" His wife said without skipping a beat. Sweets let out a chuckle at the sight of Hodgins being defeated. Hodgins turned quickly to him and gave him a deathglare. Sweets quickly turned quiet and took a sip of his drink.
"Okay mister laughing at others misery. This one's for you." Hodgins said pouring up a shot and handling it to Sweets. "Never have I ever helped someone escape from the psych ward"
Sweets gasped and held the shot glass from his mouth. "That's not fair! I didn't know I was helping him" He exclaimed and the part of the group that knew what had happened broke out in laughter.
"Your card, you helped." Hodgins said simply and shrugged his shoulders. "Drink up, buddy" He smiled and Sweets sighed before taking the shot. He shivered as the liquid went down.
"It's not fair, I had no idea it was happening" He poured and put the glass down.
Angela nudged Brennan before turning to the group. "Never have I ever kissed the same sex" She smiled as Booth leaned back into his seat, of course he hadn't. Brennan poured herself a shot and took it. She put the glass down with a smile. Hannah drank from her glass as well, as did Angela and Jared. Booth first glanced at Jared, wanting an answer.
"Military dare" He said simply and Booth shrugged and turned his attention back to Brennan.
"You've kissed a girl, when?" He asked her curiously.
"In college, and a few years after that" She said quietly. "You've never asked, so I didn't think it mattered" She said glancing at him. His eyes filled with sorrow? It hit him that they never talked like they used to anymore. They could go back to his or her apartment and talk for hours, about anything and now.. She is sitting as far as she can from him.
That night should have helped them. He drove her home, walked her up to her apartment. He told her how sorry he was for how things had unfolded for them. She shrugged it off, concealing her emotions once again. He had said coffee when she had asked him if he wanted something to drink. It had all felt so strange, she had finally told him that what had happened only a few months back, was a mistake, that she was ready.
There he was, in a committed relationship, with a girl he had only known for those months that they had been apart. What did she compare to her, the woman preparing the coffee the way that she knew he loved. Black with a splash of sugar, unless he had pie, then no sugar. She knew everything about him. But somehow, he thought he knew her. The brave woman who stood before him was so much more than he thought she was when he met her all those years ago.
Her brave frame turned fragile in the oversized sweater to warm herself up after the rain. He had his bag in his car with fresh clothes he had changed into. Her hair was tied up in a loose bun, showing off her pale neck. Even if she stood with her back towards him he could see the sorrow that hung over her shoulders. How had he not noticed how fragile she actually was? He knew how warm her heart was, how inviting her laughter was. But he hadn't seen the fragile side of her soul.
She turned to him with two cups in her hands. "Here you go" She had said in a quiet tone, almost in a whisper. Her voice was not carrying her words. The baby blues staring firmly down on her marbled kitchen island.
"You know I never wanted us to be like this." His voice cracking as the whisper came out. "I thought that you.. I thought we were.." He struggled to get out the words, instead he leaned over and picked up his cup of coffee. "I thought that after that night, that the only thing we would ever be, was friends." He said after a while. She sighed at his words and gently touched her cup.
"I never said I didn't love you" She whispered with words that barely left her mouth. He sat there quiet, not knowing how to take in what her whisper brought to him. They sat there in silence for an hour, just listening to each other breathing, a calmness landing in between them.
Booth had to take a deep breath and close his eyes to get the memory of her head laying on his shoulder as the rain fell against the window. How would they ever get back to how they were? His eyes fell on the brave frame on the other couch in front him. She was smiling, but not in the way she used to.
"Never have I ever been quarantined in the Jeffersonian." Hodgins' voice broke through his thoughts. He smiled at the memory of that christmas.
"Cheers for that Christmas, even if we couldn't be with our real families." Angela said as she raised her glass. The part of the group that was in the quarantine raised their glass with her and drank.
"Never have I ever kissed more than one Booth" Cam exclaimed as the group had put their glasses down. She smiled and brought her glass to her lips. Brennan picked up her glass once more and took a sip.
"If cheeks count, I've kissed four." She said matter-of-factly. Booth let out a chuckle and smiled at her.
"Wait, what?" Hannah asked. "You have two more brothers?" She turned to Booth in question.
"No, he doesn't," Brennan answered before Booth could. "I was referring to Pops and Parker" She said, taking another sip before putting the glass back on the table.
"Pops?" Hannah asked.
"His grandfather, a lovely man." Brennan said, looking at Booth.
"He misses you and your dominos tournaments" Was all he could say when her eyes met his. She held his gaze and smiled softly.
"I should visit him soon." She said and he nodded gently.
Sweets cleared his throat and glanced around the room. "Never have I ever been a suspect in a murder" The quints and Booth drank without thinking too much about it.
"Gormogon, drink up kiddo" Booth said pointing at Sweets' glass. Sweets sighed and drank.
"Forgot about that guy" He said as he put his glass down.
"Never have I ever been kidnapped" Jared asked his first question pointing towards Booth. Booth glanced at him and sighed before drinking. Brennan and Hodgins drank as well.
"Oh" Brennan exclaimed. "Never have I ever had sexual intercourse in the egyptian exhibit." She smiled and pointed at Angela. Hodgins chuckled and poured up more orange juice for her and they drank together. What surprised the entire group is that Sweets also drank.
"Wait, no, wait really?" Angela said and furrowed her brows. "I hope they change the sheets down there." She shivered at the thought of sharing bedsheets with Sweets and Daisy.
"They do, I make sure they do" Cam called out. Angela pointed in her direction and mouthed a thank you. Cam only nodded at the gesture. "Never have I ever almost died on the job" She poured herself a shot and put it in the air. Booth, Brennan, Hodgins, Hannah and Jared joined her and they all took their shots with ease.
"Never have I ever photocopied my ass during a fourth of July party at work" Hodgins chuckled and Angela stuck her tongue out at him.
"It took weeks collecting all of the copies.." She said as she put her glass down again.
"Never have I ever been shot at by a colleague" Booth said and drank.
"It was an accident." Brennan exclaimed in defence.
"Never have I ever been tattooed by my ex's dad" Cam said looking at Hodgins.
"I can't even believe that happened." Hodgins sighed and drank. "Twice" He shook his head and the group laughed.
"You know that is how he is." Angela laughed.
"Don't put your glass down doctor" Booth exclaimed. "Never have I ever been tackled by CIA agents and dragged out of the lab" Hodgins smiled at this and took another sip.
"Those were the days." Hodgins said and laughed.
"Never have I ever role played Edward and Bella in bed" Angela laughed and glanced around the room. "Nev-" She started but she saw Sweets pouring himself a shot and drank it. The group sat in silence and stared at him. He wiped away the droplet that ran down his chin.
"What?" He asked. "Daisy." He said simply and leaned back.
"Oh, yeah, that makes sense" Angela said in thought. Shivered a second later. "Note to self, don't think about that" She added.
"Never have I ever denied that Booth is in fact Andy Lister and I deny it because I don't want the truth to come out" Booth asked and glanced at Brennan.
"I'm not drinking, you're not him." She said, smiling at him.
"Yes, I am, just admit it" He pleaded. She shook her head and chuckled. He had been going at this for years. Of course he was Andy Lister, there was no one else that it could be, but she would never admit it.
"Who is Andy Lister?" Padme asked curiously.
"It's the male lead in Brennan's books." Angela told her. "We all know we are in the books but she won't admit it, and some of us are more persistent than others about it."
"You guys are not in the books" Brennan exclaimed. They were. "You are going to have to stop asking about it one of these days" She shook her head.
"Never have I ever almost adopted a kid on the job" Cam said and winked at Booth. He smiled and knew what she was talking about. Brennan took a sip at the same time as Booth.
"If they hadn't taken him we would have fostered him until he had found a home." Brennan said silently.
"My man Andy, of course we would have." He smiled at her. Padme drank as they went back and forth. Jared turned to her and smiled.
"There was a child, he was 7 when he came to my class" Padme told them. "He had no one and I knew his home life was bad, he was a foster child." Booth glanced at Brennan for a split second. He saw a smile showing on her lips. "But before I got the papers through he got a new home." She shrugged with sadness in her eyes. Jared hugged her closer to his body. "I hear from him from time to time, he's doing good."
"You're a wonderful person for even thinking of taking in a child from the system" Brennan told her. "Not a lot of people are right for the part" She added quietly. "The system can be quite tough on a child" She said and put down her glass.
"Do you have experience with foster children, Temperance?" Hannah asked curiously. Booth saw the panic in Brennan's eyes. This was not the place for that.
"Something like that." Booth said before Hannah could ask anymore questions. He glanced at Cam for help.
"Never have I ever stopped an addiction for someone" Cam said the first one that came to mind. He smiled at her and then glanced at Jared. His smile matched his brothers and they took a sip together.
Booth glanced back at Brennan and raised a glass towards her. "Never have I ever blackmailed someone" Brennan chuckled and poured herself a shot and raised it to the ceiling.
"And look where it got us." She said and took the shot with ease. "Pour yourself a shot, Booth" He furrowed his brow and did as he was told and held it in front of him. "Never have I ever had to be undressed in the lab because I got body parts all over me." She smiled and winked at him. "Drink up."
He chuckled and remembered that day as he took the shot. He hadn't been able to focus on anything that day, except her hands on his body, stripping off his clothes. The way her long fingers gently peeled off his tie and laid it beside him. The way she pushed away his hands from his dress shirt. His eyes had met hers when she invited him for Christmas and he had stopped breathing. Her eyes were a new shade of blue up close in that light. They had speckles of gold in them, or that's what he saw.
He put down the glass and glanced at her. She sat there smiling, there was happiness in her eyes. Pure happiness. He smiled back at her.
"Never have I ever flirted with a coworker" Angela's voice broke through their conversation that was held through their eyes. The group let out a chuckle and they drank in unison.
"..On a plane" Brennan added and pointed at Booth.
"Oh, you drink too, Bones, you flirted so hard" Booth exclaimed and the pair drank once more together.
"Oh, please, I was sleep deprived" She said in defence.
"Is that what you call flirting in Vegas? Sleep deprivation?" He asked her with a cocked eyebrow.
"That was undercover" She answered simply, trying to hide the fluster that was creeping up on her. "I didn't slap your ass" She said matter-of-factly. "Now who was that?" She asked herself, putting her index finger to her chin.
"I wasn't the one that said yes to being blackmailed by Caroline" He said, raising his brows.
"Well, I didn't have to get drunk to fire you and then tried to get into bed with you." She said and leaned back.
"At least I didn't pussy out." He said staring at her.
"At least I go through with what I say I'm going to do." She said not letting her eyes fall from his gaze. He put his finger in the air.
"Never have I ever said that I wanted someone's baby but didn't want anything else to do with them and then never mention it again" Booth said looking straight into Brennan's eyes. He saw the color drain from them and the room went silent. You could drop a needle and hear when it landed on the floor. Angela glanced over to Brennan to see if she was still breathing. She could see small tears forming in her eyes. Angela put her hand on her thigh and Brennan nodded slowly. She wasn't okay though, Angela knew this.
Brennan took a sip from her glass, not breaking eye contact with Booth. His glare burned into her soul. "Never have I ever faked their own death and never told the first person on my list" Her voice cracked at the memory of the event. Jared looked at Booth in confusion.
"I was fourth on that list and I got the news." Jared told him as he took a sip from his glass.
"That's Sweets' fault" He told Jared and then turned to Brennan. "And you know that." He said softly. She shrugged and held his stare. She wouldn't back down. "If we're going there." Booth said and sighed. "Never have I ever told someone on a date their partners secrets" She furrowed her brows and drank.
"I've apologized for that, Booth." She told him softly. He mimicked her and shrugged his shoulders at her comment.
"Okay then." She said and sat up straight. "Never have I ever said I love you to someone and then took it back a second later because you got scared" She glared at him. "What shot do you want?" She added.
"I'm fine with my drink, thank you." He said and drank from his whiskey. Cam shook her head and glared at Booth, that man never listens.
"Never have I ever not listened to a friend when they told me that I had to be sure" Cam called out. Half of the group drank, but Booth knew what she meant.
"Never have I ever helped someone's dad out of prison" Sweets spoke up, Brennan turned to him and smiled. The squints and Booth drank to what Sweets had said.
"I'm grateful for that, thank you." She said softly looking around.
"Anything for family, right?" Booth said, looking down at his whiskey.
"Yeah, family," Brennan repeated his words quietly. Booth scoffed and raised his glass towards Brennan again.
"Never have I ever almost sailed away with a loser no good." He said and glared at her.
"He wasn't a loser, no good, you know that Booth." She said in defence but raised her glass to her lips anyway.
"What was he then and why didn't you go?" He asked curiously and furrowed his brows.
"I know why" Angela chimed in with glee.
"Shut up, Angela." Brennan turned quickly to her best friend before giving her full attention back to Booth. "He was a good man who wanted more to life than just DC." She sighed. "And why doesn't matter anymore, does it?" She added and spoke with her eyes. Booth knew what she meant, but it mattered. It had never mattered as much as it did right now.
The room had gone silent as the stare-off was happening between the partners. They were having a full blown conversation without saying a word. No one else in the room would have any idea what they were talking about, but they did.
"Never have I ever worked with a cannibal's apprentice." Sweets broke the silence with his statement. The partners stopped their conversation without words and looked at him. "It was the only thing I could think of." He said putting up his hands in defense, the team drank to it and the other sat in confusion around them.
"One of Brennan's interns went a little crazy and landed in the looney bin." Booth said smiling.
"He wasn't one of them, he was the intern." Brennan corrected him. Booth glared at her. She always had to correct him. Not that he minded sometimes, it was endearing sometimes. But tonight, it bothered him.
"He was an intern. Just like Clark or Wendell." Booth told her. She shot him a deathglare. He knew that she liked Zach more than the others. Brennan opened her mouth to shoot her response but Cam interrupted her.
"Never have I ever been buried alive." She called out and sat up straight. Hodgins and Brennan turned to her in shock. "It was the first thing on my mind, sorry"
"You've been buried alive?" Hannah asked as Hodgins and Brennan drank.
"This was not the time or place to bring that up, Cam" Booth barked at her. Even if he was getting angrier by the second at Brennan, that didn't mean that people could bring up those memories for her. He knew how hard it had been for her to readjust after that incident. He had parked outside of her house for weeks just to be near her if she called. The nights she had called she cried on the phone until he got there and made sure no one could take her away. Those weeks were some of the few nights she had shown herself weak. One day, she switched her emotions about that day off and lived her everyday life as she did before it happened.
Booth glanced at Brennan and was able to see that split second of her walls coming down, before they built even higher.
"Never have I ever dated someone's boss just to get under their skin." Angela spoke up to distract from the earlier statement. Maybe not the best statement. She thought to herself and cringed.
Brennan brought her glass to her mouth and saw Booth just sitting there glancing towards Hannah for a split second. "Booth, drink up" She gestured to his whiskey glass. He glanced down at it and then up at Brennan.
"You really thought-" He started and Cam cleared her throat. His eyes darted over to her disapproving glance. "Fine." He took a sip from his glass.
"Wait, who have you dated here? All of them?" Hannah asked Booth curiously.
"Not me, unfortunately." Angela spoke up. "But I'm down for a ride on that machine" She said and winked at Booth. He only responded with a chuckle.
"Husband, over here, father to your baby" Hodgins pointed towards himself.
"Oh shush, it's never gonna happen, babe" Angela waved him off and then winked again at Booth. The room fell into a comfortable silence. Padme talked softly to Jared as Angela and Brennan put their hands on Angela's growing stomach. They talked silently to each other about the baby. Sweets had turned to Cam and Hodgins, they picked up the conversation they were having before the game. Booth just sat there, barely listening to Hannah beside him. Nodding when he had to, humming when needed.
"Never have I ever confessed my feelings for someone in the rain when they were happy with someone else" Booth spoke up. The group abruptly stopped talking. Brennan felt her breath being taken from her, stolen out of her lungs. She sat frozen with her hand on Angela's stomach. What was she even going to do? No one but Booth knew that. No one.
