Nesrins's p.o.v
I guess you could say it all started an evening night…My family had decided to have a bonfire in our back yard. I was tasked with finding dry wood and branches to light the fire up for said bonfire. Being the middle child, I didn't really get to say anything for myself which I mean I guess I was ok with being just 22 years of age. My older brother being 35 with a wife who by the way was very lovely named Isla was there helping dad get the hot dogs and smores set up on the table mom had set out for them. He had brought his twin kids Gaia and Theros. They were such lovely kids and very adorable as well. Lastly there was my 13-year-old sister always sassy given that she's a teen, but I love her, nonetheless.
I digress though point is I was having a bonfire with my family and this event in some way or form is what transpired me to be where I am currently.
" Why am I always being chosen to get firewood for the bonfire? You two always team up against me for no reason!" I exclaimed a bit pet peeved at my siblings who stood before me rolling their eyes at my dramatics.
" Look it's your fault for completely sucking at thumb wrestling. We all agreed to at least three rounds with everyone which you lost each single game." My sister Amara sassed at me making my older brother Xavier and his wife Isla along with my parents burst out laughing.
" You guys just tend to cheat every single time." I said as I stomped away dramatically for effect.
I know not becoming of a 22-year-old, but I was with family I got to act childish when not out in the real adulting word.
" Just be careful Nesrin!" I heard my mom shout as I walked with the flash on my phone to light the way so not to trip on overgrown roots or anything else.
Nesrin is what my parents decided to name me at birth it means Wild rose in what language I'm not quite sure, but it's my name and I love it, nonetheless.
I walked around for a while collecting decently sized firewood in the woods by my house until I had a nice bundle in my arms. I turned around to head back to my house continuing to be careful where I walked when I noticed that the woods started to get less and less which had me concerned because I knew the woods pretty well. After walking out of what I finally though was my woods I squinted my eyes to see several small houses. I dropped the bundle of firewood in my arms and began to run towards the house hoping they could point me in the direction of my house but as I approached the house I realized that these were not like any house I have seen in person well except in a movie called The Hobbit but there was no way that what was happening to me could be like in those various fanfictions I read about said reader getting transported to middle earth to help out on the quest no this had to be some prank right?
As I ran to the first small house I knocked rapidly on the door and to my greatest shock a short fellow opened the door looking like a hobbit person would, " Yes may I help you?"
I blankly stared at the hobbit fellow for a few seconds too long as my brain tried to process my current situation, then I finally spoke, " Oh Um I was wondering if by chance you knew a Bilbo Baggins? I was told to find him and ask if he could house me for a couple months, but I seemed to be all turned around."
" Ah Mister Baggins home is at the end of this path just up there where you see the bright light out by the front gate." the hobbit fellow pointed behind me.
I turned to look to where he was pointing and with a small smile, I thanked him and excused myself for interrupting his evening. I turned to where he pointed and slowly walked towards Bilbo's home trying to think up excuses of why I was one interrupting supper and two my reason for being there at his door. And the answer I came up with was rather dumb but could work out in the end for me.
As I approached his door, I steadied my breath and mentally prepared myself. I lifted my hand and gave a quick but hard knock to his door.
" Coming!" I heard him say loudly not quite shouting.
When the door opened, I took a sharp inhale for standing in front of me was indeed Bilbo Baggins looking genuinely confused.
" Do I know you?" He asked as politely as he could.
" Nesrin at your service Mister Bilbo. I was told by Gandalf that I could reside with you for a couple months while he deals with some unfinished business." I greeted as a gave an awkward curtsy.
" Bilbo Baggins at yours. Not to be rude but who's this Gandalf fellow you speak of?" He asked politely.
" Oh, Um Gandalf the Grey. He said to tell you that he knew your mother when she set out on adventures. He's also known for his firework displays when he does come around here." I replied slowly trying to find something that would click with Bilbo abut I said.
" You don't mean Gandalf, the wandering wizard, the one who made such excellent fireworks! I didn't know he was still in business." Bilbo awkwardly replied as he moved to the side and allowed me inside his home.
" Yes, the very one, I thought you were made aware of my coming here...I'm sorry to intrude upon your lovely home like this. I would have stopped by the green dragon inn if I had known." I said apologetically.
" Oh no it's quite alright Miss Nesrin, was it? If Gandalf sent you here, then who am I to deny you shelter for a couple months." He replied as he headed into the dining room.
" Of course, Mister Bilbo, I wouldn't be here free of charge though. I can do laundry or help you cook dinner supper as well as help you tend to the garden if you'd like." I started to ramble to him awkwardly as he set a plate in front of me.
I looked up at him in confusion.
" You must be very hungry and tired after traveling a bit of ways here. I whipped it up with the ingredients I had left out from my supper." He says almost bashfully.
" Thank you, Mister Bilbo you didn't have to do that." I replied as I looked at the late full of sauteed asparagus with corn and a nice juicy steak.
" I wouldn't be a very good host if I didn't give you a meal after a long trip to get here now, would I?" he says as he sits down at his seat.
I made a noise of acknowledgment which may have been kind of rude but at this point I was starving and started digging into the food he most graciously set in front of me moaning at how delicious it tasted. After finishing my plate of food, I offered to wash dishes but quickly got turned down and told to wait in his living room as he got the guest room where I would be staying for the next couple of months all cleaned out. After about 15 minutes or so he told me the room was ready and he showed me where the bathroom was in case, I needed to shower.
" Oh, Mister Bilbo I know this is probably a weird question, but you wouldn't happen to have some clothes that could perhaps fit me, would you? All I have are these clothes I have on me currently." I asked slowly.
" Oh, m-maybe a dress that belonged to my mother but even then, it might fit short on you if that's quite alright?" He suggested. " And if you'll be staying with me, you can just call me by my name Bilbo."
" Yes, if that's quite alright with you Mister Bilbo. " I agreed as he let me know that he'd just leave it out the door of the bathroom.
I entered the bathroom deciding to just take a quick hot bath choosing the bottle that smelled like mint and soap that he had set out that smelled like lavender. Once done I grabbed the towel, he had set out for me wrapping it tightly as I opened the door to see the dress hanging on the doorknob. I gently pulled it off the doorknob and shut the door once again. I slipped the dress on over my head and fixed it carefully as it ended midthigh. I quickly pickup my underwear and gave it a quick wash as I wringing it out as tightly as I could. debating for minutes on how to dry my underwear I quickly decided just to let it air dry in the room I would be staying at even if it meant to sleep commando for the night.
I wished Bilbo a good night as I walked into my room setting my underwear on a wooden chair in the corner and carefully climbed into bed curling up since it was a slightly smaller bed than I was used to sleeping in. On the bright side the blanket was pretty think and would keep me pretty warm throughout the time. I slowed out my breathing and let sleep consume me for the night.
