Authors Note: this will be my first fanfic on this site, i have written fanfics before but its been years. i also was never very good, since I was like. 15. but now I'll be publishing my first work, a bog standard isekai story involving four friends getting transported to RWBY. it probably won't be very good, but I'm hoping it'll be a learning experience.

It was a fairly regular day out in Woodbury park, a group of four friends finding themselves setting up camp. Ya see, one of the group had just returned from active military duty. So they'd gone on this camping trip, in celebration of the man still being alive.

"I still can't believe it's been two years since we all hung out together like this, we've all been far too busy huh?" The first friend, Jay. Ended up speaking, his resounding Aussie accent filling the area. The returning military man, Oliver. Patting him on the shoulder rather casually, tryna relax him.

"Oh come on jay, don't get all sentimental and shit. As long as we're all alive we're gonna keep hanging out like this, no matter what" Oliver spoke, the man's English accent filling the air. Yep, this group was composed of people from different countries. Or at least, their parents had been from other countries. Now it was the turn of the third friend to speak, this was Lee. A Scottish man with an engineering, science and chemistry degree. The smart ass of the group.

"Oi mates, ya gonna keep jacking each others dicks over their or actually help set up the fuckin tent?" Yep, this is lee. Swears like a sailor without a second thought, though his heart is in the right place. For the most part, when he isn't accidentally making chlorine gas in his bathtub or setting fire to random shit. The final of the four friends suddenly came out of the bushes, zipping his pants up. This is Dimitri, he's russian.

"I'll never get used to pissing in the woods, toilets are so much more comfortable" Oliver spoke, letting out an irritated chuckle. The group attention was swiftly captured though when they heard a stick snap, looking in the direction of the sound. Though they never saw anything, so whatever snapped the twig must've been a decent bit away.

"The hell was that? Thought we were meant to be alone out here, ya think it's a bear or something?" Oliver asked the group in a nervous voice, bears usually aren't out here so it didn't really make sense. So what was it? The group soon got their answer when a large wolf left the bushes, the thing was massive. Bigger than any of them at least, with an unsettling bone like mask on its face.

"Oli, what the absolute fuck is that thing? That… is the ugliest fuckin dog I've ever seen" of course that question came from lee, swearing as usual. Before an answer course really be given though, the thing lunged towards the Scot. Sensing the uncertainty and fear he felt, though it didn't get far before jay shoulder charged it's side to knock it off course.

"I ain't got a damn clue what it is, but pay attention at least. Ya almost died mate" jay chastised lee for letting his guard down, grabbing the closest item he could to defend himself. A frying pan, not exactly ideal but it'll do. Better than not having anything at all, ya know?

"Jay, it looks like a… Beowulf. From rwby, that show ya all said was dumb and I shouldn't watch? Guess it's coming in handy now huh?" This came from Dimitri, yeah the Russian was a big fan of anime. Having started watching rwby way back when it first started, unfortunately the other three never got into it.

"Alright D, if you know what this damn thing is… how do we fuckin kill it?" Oliver asked the russian, now holding a machete in hand. He'd brought it along to cut foliage if they went on a trek, who knew they'd need it for something like this.

"I don't know man! We don't have guns or anything, in the show they cut them in half with scythes and shit. Plus they have aura to make them stronger, just don't get hit!" Dimitri spat back and quickly dove to the side to avoid a swipe from the grimm, now laying on the ground. Staring up at the terrifying black mass of hate, watching it closing in on him.

"Oh no ya don't! Ya ain't chewing on my friend ya Fido!" Oliver yelled out and jammed his machete into the things side, twisting and wrenching it to try to cause as much damage as possible. Even tearing the thing out of its side, to make the wound larger. But despite all that, the damn thing didn't even seem hurt. Hell it just backhanded Oliver, sending the Brit flying back into a tree with a vicious sounding crack.

"Shit! Oli!" Lee panicked a bit when he saw his friend get hit, rushing over to the Englishman before kneeling down. Noticing three large claw mark gashes on the man's chest, looking from Oliver to the grimm and his other two friends.

Things weren't going too great with Dimitri and Jay, on one hand Jay had the frying pan. But on the other hand, Dimitri didn't have anything to properly defend himself. So Jay took the lead, dashing into the Grimms' range out of necessity. Before smashing the frying pan into its skull mask with a loud panging sound, he almost felt proud of his work too. Until the thing just immediately bit into his shoulder, wrestling him to the ground. The Aussie yelling out in pain, Dimitri tried to help but without a weapon he couldn't do much. The Beowulf clasped its jaw around Jay's neck, before chomping down. A sickening snapping and splattering sound filling the forest, everything had happened so fast.

It was meant to be a normal camping trip, a celebration… and already one of them was dead. All because this damned thing showed up, and Dimitri wasn't going to let that slide. The russian snatching the machete off the floor, where it had landed after falling loose from Oliver's grip when he got hit.

"Alright you big ugly wolf, I'm gonna tear your damn head off for what you did" Dimitri growled out, the adrenaline making it hard for him to really react to his friends death fully. It'd likely hit him much harder when he came down from his adrenaline rush, but for now? He's focused on avenging his friend, the man dashing in to swing at the Beowulf. Cleaving a chunk of meat from its arm, before being forced to roll to evade a swipe from its claws.

Unlike Dimitri, Lee was not having such an easy time. He was staring directly at the dead body of Jay, watching the blood pouring from the wound on his horrifically twisted neck. Just, shell shocked. He couldn't understand what happened, he… didn't want to understand what happened. He didn't wanna accept it, his friend was laying there dead and part of him was praying it was just a bad dream. Some trick of the mind, he'd wake up in bed tomorrow morning with the usual joking good morning text from jay. Same as usual, that's what would happen for sure. There's no way this was real after all, right?

Oliver, despite the horrible condition he was in from the gashes on his chest. Along with his broken ribs from the impact with the tree, slowly began rising to his feet. Seeing jay dead did make him pause, but due to years of military training he was able to snap out of things. Picking up the frying pan, before lunging in to strike the Beowulf's lower arm. Hitting it with enough force that it snapped the features arm, throwing it off balance enough to make it fall over. With the advantage coming from that, Dimitri jammed the machete into the Beowulf. Oliver almost thought the thing was dead, hell so did Dimitri. But it wasn't, and in the moment of distraction Dimitri had. The creature swung up its remaining claw, cleaving off the Russians head.

Oliver was a trained military man, he was built to handle these things. But nothing prepares you for watching your friends head slide off his shoulders, and thump uselessly to the ground. Worse yet? Things happened so damn fast, Dimitri still had that proud smile on his face. He still thought he'd killed the thing, but… now his head was just rolling across the grass. Oliver did make a rush to try to pick up the machete, but he only got one good chop in before he too met his fate at the hands of the Beowulf. Though in his final moments, while literally being eaten alive by the wolf creature. He tossed the machete to Lee, sure the Scot was scared and barely moving. But he'd need the weapon, If he wanted any hope of surviving.

And just like that, Lee found himself all alone. Watching the Beowulf finish off his most well trained friend, it'd all happened so fast. From what Dimitri said these things were fought using super powered people, how did they ever hope of surviving this? Despite the thoughts he was having though, Lee desperately picked up the machete and held it in front of him. Watching as the Beowulf charged towards him, closing his eyes as his hands shook. The sounds of his friends dying playing over and over again in his mind, it was his fault. He suggested this damn camping trip, If he never suggested it they'd all be alive right now. Soon all Lee felt was wearing pain, hearing the distinct sound of the machete piercing flesh. Unfortunately though, Lee had also felt something piercing through his lower abdomen. But, he couldn't hear the thing anymore. In fact it didn't seem to be moving either, the Scot finally opening his eyes. Finding the dead body of the Beowulf crumpled on top of him, at least… until it slowly began to fade into a foul smelling smoke.

The Scot now found himself looking out at the deceased mangled bodies of his friends, tears rising into his eyes as he looked to the sky. Abdomen bleeding from a massive hole, so big the tree could be seen through it. It was absolutely disgusting, and he had no chance of survival. This far out? Without any real way to get to the nearest hospital? Yeah they all never stood a chance, clearly they weren't meant to get out of here. But one thing bothered the man, he's a scientist after all.

'How the hell is something from an anime in this world? That thing shouldn't exist' those thoughts rang through lees mind as he slowly felt his eyes grow heavy, his eyes beginning to close. They often say someones life flashes before their eyes before death, but that wasn't the case at all. Nothing happened before his death, no grandiose reel of memories. Just nothing but eerie silence, and pitch black darkness from his closed eyes.

And with that, it was all over. Lee, Oliver, Jay and Dimitri all passed on from the world. Rather unremarkably at that, but this wouldn't be the end of their story.
