Chapter 7: Lingering Shadows

Blurry months passed, and the seasons changed, but for Amy and Sheldon, time seemed to stand still in the mental health facility. Amy continued to live in her illusion, her world populated by fragments of her lost child. Sheldon's visits remained a constant, a painful reminder of the life they once had.

Sheldon, despite his deep sorrow, made daily visits to the facility. He spoke to Amy about their shared memories, trying to break through her delusion with familiar stories and gentle reminders of their past life.

"Amy," Sheldon said softly one afternoon, as he sat beside her. "Remember when we used to go on those weekend trips to the mountains? You loved the fresh air and the hikes. We used to talk for hours."

Amy's eyes were distant, but for a brief moment, a flicker of recognition crossed her face. "The mountains… yes, I remember. But we need to focus on getting ready for school now."

Sheldon's heart sank, but he pressed on. "I know you're focused on taking care of him, but I want you to remember that we had so many good times together. I miss those moments. I miss you."

Amy turned to him, her expression blank but attentive. "I need to make sure he has everything he needs. I can't forget his lunch."

Sheldon's voice cracked with emotion. "I'm here, Amy. I'm trying to help you remember. Even if it's hard, I want to be with you. I want to help you heal."
