Chapter 3: A lesson in Pendulum
Yuuki's POV
The time is 4.00 am. The night is still early and a majority of the Maiami City is still sound asleep. To the early birds like us, this is a normal routine to prepare for the day. Normally, I would have my daily jogs. However, today is quite different, or rather special. To think, I will be back to that place again, I guess my life always leads to LDS. Getting up, I decided to spend the day at my leisure, after all, my boss did drop a message telling us that today is a break, presumably wanting to spend more time with the Solid Vision System. Imagine if I lock the room up from the outside and then he needed oxygen.
Enough about my boss's antics, I suppose I should wander around…
"BUEEEEEEEEEE~"
…
I made an audible sigh as I'm so used to the same charade this fella made me do. Turning to face the source of my annoyance, I faced and approached the malcontent who is vomiting at the trash can placed outside of the apartment.
"Akemi… drinking again?" I called out.
"Shaddap, Yuu- UUUUEEEEEEEEEE"
Ok, that look as if you are disgusted at my name and even the mere mentioning of it makes you vomit. Whatever shall do I do with this sad existence?
Nevertheless, I pat her back and she threw up some more. When she has stopped, she took in a few breaths before swinging around and tried to walk to her apartment. Of course, like how drunkards would walk, it was wobbly and shaky. I grab her arm over my shoulders before walking her into her apartment.
Another average day here.
This woman is Fuukou Akemi. To anyone who realize the wordplay here, her name can translate into "Bad Luck Akemi". When I first heard her name, I thought this was something a writer would have thought up out of a whim just to throw another girl at me for my harem route. But no, not at all, apparently due to her not being an important character, the world itself generates a random name for these people. How did I know? Apparently, my created background: "An entity that exists outside the laws of the world." was the reason why I know about this. Due to this, should I have any existential question regarding the lives of the people, I will get a message answering it for me.
I got sidetracked.
Fuukou Akemi, has wavy long pink hair. She is currently wearing a somewhat exposed bodycon that shows off her shoulders and arms. Her skirt reaches her knees and she is wearing a pair of stilettos. Not only that, she wears a pair of ear hoops pierced on both ears. The slight smell of perfume, tobacco and alcohol lingers about her.
Let's just say this is a middle-aged unmarried dilemma.
I brought her into her apartment and did the usual where I tend to her. Like setting her bed, preparing some warm water for her to drink, removing her accessories and also gave her body a bit of a wipe before letting her sleep.
As I leave her apartment, I was greeted by another neighbor. Only this time, my vision was completely covered by a pair of familiar smooth hands.
"Guess who!" the owner of the hands spoke in her usual sing song attitude but still music to my ears.
"Hm… Yu-baba?" I teased jokingly, essentially addressing the person with their grandmother's name.
"Moooo~ That's not very nice." I could feel her long nails digging into my skin.
"But it's fun, Yukari-chan." I chuckled and corrected myself, not because I'm afraid that she was about to gouge my eyes out with her nails, but because I know jokes has their limits.
"Co~rrect." She did let go of my eyes and moved into my peripheral view.
Before me is another neighbour who lives in the very same building but at a different apartment. This is Natsume Yukari. She has long blonde hair tied with an array of colourful ribbons. She wears a simple unbuttoned T that exposes a part of her cleavage and midriff. Speaking of exposure, she also wears a pair of shorts that shows the majority of her legs. Not to mention she is covered in a lot of makeup and colourful armlets on her wrists. Each of nails are manicured and also painted with many different colourful patterns. Essentially, she's a gyaru, kinda like a certain cosplaying doll but with makeups.
"You're skipping school again?" I inquired, my teacher's instincts flaring up.
"No, of course not. Not ever since that day." She answered with a smile and her face was evidently reminiscing that fateful day.
Ah yes… that day. Let's just say she had some teenage problems at the time. I intervened and here she is.
"Good," I complimented her with a head pat, "What are you doing up this early?"
"I thought I would catch you so that I can deliver this to you." She handed me a package which I recognize as a bento, a boxed lunch. "I put a lot of effort in it. I hope you like it."
"What am I your boyfriend? Those are the things you say to one." I teased.
"Uh- well… I mean, sensei is a boy and a friend, so that makes sense." It was evident that she has a crush on me.
What can I say, Harem route.
"Thanks, I will eat it with care." I responded before walking away.
"C-c-c-care~ ah.. YABA! YABA!" I could hear her squeal in the back as I walk away.
"SHUT UP!"
"Aaaaa~, I'M SORRY!"
So… in this world, the sound of explosions, destructions, and roars in the middle of the night are acceptable. But the sound of a maiden in love bearing her heart out was frowned upon… what a world. But still, if I was much younger, Yukari would be within my strike zone. However, I'm at least 10 years older than she is, so I cannot reciprocate her feelings. She knows this, in fact, she even confessed to me once, I of course, rejected. But we are still friends nonetheless.
In any case, all joking aside, I inspect my watch and learned that the time is now 6 A.M. and I had plenty of time to spend. Considering that today is a holiday for my workplace, I suppose I could spare some time to prepare for my next lesson for the coming week. If I were to compare my current workload with my former workload, it is significantly easier, and as such the payout is considerably lower. On the bright side, since I have been saving up, I have nothing to fear about DP as I have an abundance of it. More than enough to last me for 20 years if I stay single.
The DP I have right now can afford me a luxurious 4LDK, which is the Japanese term for a 4 room, 1 living room, dining room and kitchen combo. To put it in perspective, the one I am currently living in is a 2LDK rental apartment. While I cannot compare this world's living standard with my old world's Japan, the 2LDKs here are significantly cheaper and easier to maintain, not to mention, the price of a 1LDK is actually half of a 2LDK. Based on my current body's memories, he has acquired this housing for cheap due to his charming personality… aka Harem Protagonist EX skill.
The neighborhood is great, the start is great and the life is all too great.
In any case, I looked at the clock again and noticed a significant leap in time since I began working and reminiscing. It is now 1 pm and I best be prepared. But first, a lovely meal from my gal neighbor. In fact, let me just say its like those boxed lunch you see in an anime high school romance. Rice, egg rolls, seaweed, prawns, sausages cut into octopus and so on. Oh, and I should add that the rice has a pink heart. Definitely a maiden in love, despite my rejection. To be young again…
Finishing up the bento and ensuring not a single grain of rice is left, I washed the box, return it to Yukari and head to LDS.
Who would have thought that I would be here again.
Entering the front gate, I am greeted by the familiar sight of the LDS main atrium. Can I mention how nostalgic this is, especially when this very same spot is where I make my grand exit. Boy did I go out big that time. In any case, I have some time, so I decided to drop by the drink store to the left of the counter.
"Welcome!" As usual, the cashier behind the counter is as enthusiastic as I remember him to be. "Are you inter- GEH!" Ah, he noticed.
I put a finger to my lips and gave him a wink. He understood and respected my decision. So, I ordered two of the usual before leaving, but not before signing an autograph which he asked for. I guess I did become popular since my departure. Upon arriving at the barrier, which separates the front atrium with the school, I paused and take in the familiar sight of my old work place. The barrier is simplistic in design in which a holographic sensor is constantly on. Should a student or teacher pass through it, nothing happens. Alternatively, visitors would be stopped as a blockade will form itself in front of the visitor, preventing them from advancing forward. If the visitor comes with a student or a teacher of the school, they scan their Duel Disk to allow the visitor to enter. However, if the visitor persisted on after the barriers are up, an alarm will sound and notify a guard.
I tried waving my Duel Disk and to no surprise, since I have left the school, a blockade prevents me from entering. I thought of triggering the alarm but fortunately, I do not need to because I noticed a familiar face approaching me.
Richua's POV
"Tanaka-sensei, need I remind you that the work place is no place for flirting." I spoke out patiently but annoyed nonetheless as this is not the first and without a doubt not the last my trainee attempted this.
"Oh, you know you like it," not only is he persistent, he is quite delusional. "You should come to my villa one of these days and we can have some… private lessons together." Ugh, that's so cringy and creepy. I barely even know him.
"Tanaka…" I glared unapproving at his blatant attempt.
"Uh… ok, sure." His shoulders slouched dejectedly and went to his work station. I sighed with a bit of relief. There goes my break… I wonder how Yuuki would have handled it.
That… man was Tanaka Nantoka, he came in to work just last month and is placed under my tutelage, just like how I came to LDS and is placed under Yuuki's. This man is rather obnoxious in that he is rich and flaunts his wealth frequently. I am rich, don't get me wrong, but unlike him, I did not needlessly flaunt it around. In fact, Yuuki doesn't know that I am rich.
Tanaka Nantoka, I do not know his age, but I clearly know his attitude. Firstly, he spends most of his free time flirting around with the female faculty members. Fortunately, none of us were interested in him as we all already have someone that we are more interested in. In fact, we even joined his secret fan club, which again, Yuuki doesn't know about. Next, according to rumours, he used his wealth to buy his position into LDS and originally wanted a position in the higher management. To this day, we could only speculate what happened in that transaction for him to be in this teaching position. Lastly, he never taught in class. I'm not kidding, he has never taught in a class, rather went on and on in a ramble about himself. In summary, he is rich, disgusting and a lazy narcissistic leech.
I miss Yuuki, in fact, we all did. When he was here, he worked 5 times as hard. Moreover, every teacher who has worked with Yuuki can tell and repeat how diligent, thorough and knowledgeable he is. In fact, his departure was a shock to all of us as it did leave both a shocking but also memorable impact on all of us.
I got up and decided to visit the drinks store to get Yuuki's usual drink, a chocolate milk shake, which according to him, chocolate "represented all sweets". That and he likes milk.
As I approached the barriers leading to the atrium... I saw him and immediately remembered last night's conversation.
"S-Senpai?" I picked up the pace and scan my disk so that he can enter. "Wait, is it time already?" As I brought my disk upwards, it rang. I answered and to my surprise, it was Reiji.
"Ibi," he spoke my name directly in a commanding tone, "According to Yuuki's timing, he should be here."
Geez, how do they do it? If I hadn't known that Reiji is the son of Akaba Leo and that Yuuki lives alone, I would have mistook them for family.
"He-" I was about to answer my superior until I felt Yuuki's hands holding mine, or more specifically my Duel Disk. "Se-sen-" I could only stutter but handed over my disk.
"I'm here right on time, in fact if I am right, you've just had a simulation of dueling Yuuya and performing a Pendulum Summon, did I get all that right?"
I couldn't hear the conversation from the other side of the call but nonetheless, I find myself intrigued by the conversation.
"Slow down boy," I inhaled and held my breath as I heard Yuuki outright calling perhaps the most important person in Maiami City "boy". "I'm not going anywhere so there is no rush t' duel. Hehe." He added a snicker at the back. Sometimes Yuuki would say something and he would just snicker at the end. I'm used to this by now.
…
"I've worked here, of course I know where the court is. Just make sure its empty will you. Oh and…" He spared me a glace before resuming, "I'm bringing Richua with me."
…
"Why you say? Once my student, always my student." He has fond smile on his face as he looked at me. I could hear my heart skipping when he said that and the way he looked at me. "See ya, there." He hung up and returned my disk to me… his cheek was on it… I'm sticking mine on it when I get home. "Come on, let's not keep the boy waiting."
Boy huh, only you, Yuuki, only you.
"Oh and one more thing," I raised my head again, "Here." He handed me a drink, a chocolate milkshake. "Its alright, I bought two, one for me and one for you. Just like old times."
Just like old times indeed. I take the offered milkshake and enjoyed the walk to the court with my former senior.
Yuuki's POV
We proceeded to the court with little to no time. Although I must add that after my leaving, many things have changed. No longer do they teach only theories about the summons; they've even went full force on the summoning methods. I was used as a demonstrator and a test pilot for their cards. I tested out their Fusion, Synchro and Xyz card and got them right on my first try and was able to inspire new teachers to use those cards. Good times.
Entering the court, I'm reminded of how huge the place is and that we would have grand events amongst the staff here twice a year. The best part about these kinds of events is that none of the teachers need to prepare or spend anything for the event as they can easily be generated via Solid Vision System except edible food that is.
"Ok I'm here, are you there boy?" I called out.
"I am here," I turned and meet the person of interest. "I've been expecting you."
"Ah, Akaba Reiji. CEO of Leo Corporations." Huh, CEO… Leo… nice. "You wanted to see me and here I am. Pendulum Summon was it?" I deduced considering the sequence of events that has transpired.
"Correct, I wanted to know if you are the person who taught Yuuya how to perform Pendulum Summon." He asked without beating around the bush.
"Pfft, ME teaching him how to Pendulum Summon? You must be joking. Yuuya is the pioneer of Pendulum Summon, besides it's a new summoning method." I waved his question off however I was met with an argument.
"Do not lie, Ibi Richua told me that you know of the summoning method."
I turned to Richua and back to Reiji.
"Hmmm, I think I may have worded my previous sentence wrong. What I meant to say is, if I were to teach Yuuya how to Pendulum Summon, there's no way he would perform like an amateur!" My eyes widened with a bit of fury but filled with passion nonetheless as I deepen my voice to emphasize my point.
"What?" Reiji blurted that, but I could see Richua's confusion.
"The way Yuuya performed Pendulum Summon is that of an amateur. You've seen and experienced it yourself, so as a genius I am sure that you can see how much potential Pendulum Summoning can bring."
Richua's POV
There are potentials to Pendulum Summoning?
This is the first time I've seen Yuuki like this. The way he speaks as if he has already known all of this. Or, something like this is completely obvious. Its honestly very terrifying to see this side of Yuuki.
"I'm sure you can imagine," he continued, "Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Advanced Summoning, all of this made easier thanks to Pendulum Summoning and to top it all off, how Pendulum monsters can also come with the benefits of supporting these summoning methods."
When someone else would say something like that, it would sound like a madman's rambling. However, Yuuki sounded very sure of himself.
Reiji's POV
I listened and took note of every word he said. And I agreed. However, there must be more to Pendulum Summoning instead of bringing out high level monsters without tributing or supporting the Extra deck. But there is something I must know.
"How can you be so certain about this? Not only do you assert your accuracy and confidence in Pendulum Summoning, but could it be that you're not from... 'here'?"
By here, I meant this dimension, the Standard Dimension.
I heard a chuckle as a response and then he approached me and whispered into my ears. "Neither of the four, but the big one watching you five."
My eyes widened in shock. FIVE? No. SIX? There are more than the four dimensions? The big one? What is the big one? Who… no… What is he…
What is he?
What are you!
Richua's POV
I watched Yuuki approached Reiji and whispered something into his ears. Then, to my surprise, I witnessed Reiji's eyes widening. On top of that, his hands were trembling. As Yuuki pulled away from Reiji, I could see Reiji's jaw dropped, gaping as if he is trying to say something but couldn't out of… fear?
I then turned to Yuuki and his face has a predatorial grin for a moment before it became the neutral smile that I am familiar with.
"Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum. They can all be Linked. Hehe." There goes that chuckle… Why do I feel like there's another meaning to his words.
Yuuki's POV
"That isn't important for now. Anyway, enough about these conspiracies. Boy!" I called out as I try to snap Reiji's attention. It worked as he recomposed himself, "Here's the thing, you asked for me, and I answered. Now that I am here, could I interest you in a lesson on Pendulum Summoning?"
"Of course," Reiji's previous stupor was replaced by a smirk and a tone filled with anticipation. "I need all the data I can get. Nakajima, record everything from multiple angles."
"Yes sir, but pardon my intrusion about this sir. I happened to come across someone eavesdropping just behind the door." I heard the announcement and turned to the entrance of the court. After all, we aren't too far from the entrance and someone might have listened in on this private conversation.
I yanked the door open and a figure fell through. A brown-haired man in the teacher's dress code. I do not recognize him at all.
"Ah." But someone did. I turned to Richua, who was gasping in surprise, "Tanaka-sensei?" Oh, so its an NPC.
"Ouch, hey who did that! Do you know who I am!" He got up and started jumping around like an idiot and throwing insults around like a narcissist. "I'm Tanaka Nantoka!"
Forget NPC, he's basically generic. Even his name is generic. Tanaka is a common name and an easy one at that, while Nantoka literally means "something".
"Which one of you trash opened the door!" And he finally stopped and looked around. "Do you know who I am?!" He repeated and subsequently froze when he saw what is ahead of him. He gasped and immediately stood at attention, "Mr. President!?"
"Splendid, a volunteer!" Gah, my inner Claptrap came out. "Come along Claptrap, we've got a class to teach." I threw my arm around the NPC's shoulders and escorted him to the duel field, which in his stupor, complied involuntarily. When he realized what had happened, he was already at the opposite end of the duel field while I stood on the other side as his opponent. "Boy, are the cameras rolling?"
Despite my distance, I could see Reiji's eye twitching before he nodded.
"W-WHA-? BOY? DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU-"
I tuned him out with a "Don't care, now come on and get your game on! Hehe." I placed my duel disk and a deck that was prepared for this occasion on while chuckling at the reference I made.
"Tch, fine! I'll show you what happen when you duel with an elite!" He placed his duel disk on.
"DUEL!"
Tanaka – 4000
Yuuki - 4000
"As an elite, I can go first!"
Sheeeeesh.
He drew his 5 cards and from his face, I can tell he has a good hand. "From my hand I Special Summon Rocket Arrow Express!"
…
Eh?
True to his words, the card in question appear to his field from a large wormhole. An arrow like train with a jet plane attached to its roof appear (Lv 10/ EARTH/Machine/Effect/5000/0).
"You must be wondering how I can summon a level 10 monster. Well, if you are an elite, then anything is possib- HEY ARE YOU LISTENING!?"
Yes, I'm just pretending not to by reading the card effect. Still, to think I see that useless card used this way… leave it to anime to surprise me.
Tanaka's POV
Calm down, me. Richua-chan is looking at you now. I peek at her to find her looking at her Duel Disk instead. Ehhhhhhh, why? No matter, I'll show you why I'm an elite!
"I'm not finished! I summon King Tiger Wanghu (Lv 4/EARTH/Beast/Effect/1700/1000)" A tiger in armor appeared. "This guy has a nasty effect for weaklings! If I can attack on my first turn, you would have been defeated, so consider yourself lucky. I end my turn!"
Hmph, no matter what he do, I have all the things to win. Rocket Arrow Express will put his Life Points to 0 when I attack. On the other hand, if he summon or special summon a monster with 1400 or less ATK, King Tiger Wanghu will destroy it immediately. On the other hand, during my standby phase, I will have to discard my entire hand due to Rocket Arrow Express effect… not only that, I can't activate any card effects while I have him on my field. No matter, I'm sure he has nothing to deal against me.
"Huh, that is a big boy! You don't see that kind of attack every day." I heard him commented. He was very calm, so calm that it surprised me. "Hmmmm, Earth Machine… Wasn't that… wait a minute, are copying that one guy who retire from LDS all of a sudden?"
"Eh?" I heard Richua-chan's gasp.
Well, I guess this normie isn't dumb.
Richua's POV
When Kyou-senpai mentioned about the person who retire from LDS, there can only be one person he meant – him. But what is he getting at?
"Yeah, that's right. The way how he did it is so cool! Like an elite! Took down LDS's upper branch in a 1v3 without any sweat." I heard Tanaka complimented.
"Yeah, that did happened," Kyou-senpai parroted.
"Not only that, he did this thing with his Xyz monster when he overlay it with another, Exchange!"
"Xyz Change," again he parroted while correcting.
"Someone like you couldn't fathom his magnificence!"
Once upon a time, Senpai mentioned how it is possible to compliment and insult the same person at the same time. Now I have firsthand proof that you can do that.
"Must be some guy then, what's his name again?" Senpai asked with the most neutral expression.
"Hmph, who else! He's LDS strongest teacher, the Machine Emperor, the greatest, Kyou Yuuki!"
…
…
For a moment, everything was quiet until my Senpai broke the tension with the most neutral response.
"Souka?"
"PFFFT" And it was the straw that broke the camel's back because I have been holding up my laughter that I am desperately trying very hard not to laugh and make it awkward. But Yuuki, that guy. Not only does he get complimented and insulted at the same time, he just takes them all in and all he had to say is "I see". I had to cover my mouth and turn away to avoid the embarrassing situation.
Yuuki POV
Worshiping me and insulting me huh, this is quite an experience. Nevertheless, I had my fun out of this wreck.
"Draw" I pulled my card from my deck and analyze the field again. In all my life, I have yet to see that card being used, not even in my former life have I seen plays with Rocket Arrow Express. For good reasons. There are too many set backs with that card and it is used as a last resort… tho I do wonder, if there is a Skill Drain already in play on the opponent's field and this card is played… would it circumvent all of its negatives? Question for the scholars.
I now analyze my hands again with this temporary deck that I will never play again and once again observe the field. Normally, I prefer to finish everything in a single OTK … but I am now in a class. Besides, I might as well give this NPC a chance since I got to see something… rare. I mean, I've seen OG Celtic Guardian being played in proplay… once. This is exactly like that, only with a less viable card so…
Ok, enough ranting. Let's focus. Besides, I'm not going to use Pendulums anytime soon and the one I would like to use can't be reveal yet considering it has some essential Link monsters I will need for that deck. So… to make it consistent with my theme of Machine focus playstyle, I'll just settle with this deck for this one duel.
"As promised boy," I turn to Reiji's direction, "I will show you the essence of Pendulum Summon."
"First, I activate the continuous spell Dinomist Charge, when activated, I can add 1 Dinomist monster from my deck to my hand." As I pull the card that was ejected, I showed my opponent, which he responded as predicted.
"What?" I heard my opponent gasp.
"Lesson 1: When a Pendulum card is in the hand or is Summoned or Set, they are monsters, but when they are set to the Pendulum Zone, they are Spell Cards."
"How do you have them!" my opponent yelled.
"Please remain quiet until the end, your president is recording this duel and I do not like to repeat after myself." I spoke sternly which got my message across and the generic just complied, presumably because he was reminded who else is present.
"Next, I set Pendulum Scale 3 Dinomist Pteran and Pendulum Scale 6 Dinomist Ankylos. After setting the scale, I will proceed with this, from my hand I Special Summon Dinomist Brachion (Level 5/Water/Machine/Pendulum Effect/2000/800). When I do not have Dinomist Brachion and my opponent controls a monster whose attack is the highest on the field, I can special summon this card from my hand."
"Next, from my hand, I special summon Dinomist Ceratops (Level 5/Water/Machine/Pendulum/Effect/2100/400). If all the monsters I control are Dinomist monsters and none of them are Dinomist Ceratops, I can special summon this card from my hand."
"Lastly, I tribute Dinomist Brachion to advance summon Dinomist Rex (Level 5/Water/Machine/Pendulum/Effect/2400/2200)!" With the appearance of a mechanical like T-Rex, I have completed my field, "Let's go, battle. Dinomist Rex attack King Tiger Wanghu (1700)." With the tiger destroyed, I brought Tanaka's LP to 3300. "Now, Dinomist Rex's effect activates, I can tribute 1 other Dinomist Monster and activate 1 of its effect:
Attack another monster and inflict piercing damage if it is in defense, or
Shuffle 1 card from my opponent's hand or field to the Deck and gain 100 attack points.
Now then Tanaka, which one do you think I would choose?"
"A… B… No way…" He clearly knows which one I would go for, good. He is not just a mindless bot.
"Correct, I tribute Ceratops and shuffle your Rocket Arrow Express back into your deck." The train vanish into motes of light and bolt back into Tanaka's deck and shuffled.
"Now, let's go into Main Phase 2 and at the same time, Lesson 2. When a Pendulum Scale is set, you can Special Summon as many monsters from your hands and face-up Extra Deck whose level is between the scale set. For example, the scale I have is now 3 to 6, which means I can now Pendulum Summon monsters who are level 4 and 5. This is not restricted to only Pendulum Monsters as you can Pendulum Summon normal and effect monsters, but they need to be from your hands… any questions so far?"
I pause to inspect my opponent who was in a confused mess. Then I turn to Reiji who is analyzing in a corner with his butler still operating the cameras then I heard and saw a familiar sight. My former junior raised her hands.
"Yes Ibi-sensei?"
"When you say Pendulum Summon, I understand that you can Pendulum Summon any monsters from the hand… but what do you mean by face-up Extra Deck?" Richua raised a good question after all, I taught that girl.
In fact, it was only when she asked the question, I was able to catch a glimpse at Reiji's raised brows and his butler's jaw drop.
"Good ear, yes. Lesson 3, normally, when a monster is destroyed, they are sent to the Graveyard, however, for Pendulum Monsters, when they leave the field and is about to go into the Graveyard due to a tribute summon, destruction of being sent there, instead of being sent to the Graveyard, they are sent to the Extra Deck as a face-up monster, which means you can inspect the extra-deck and read their effects." I explained.
"But what is the point of it being sent to the Extra Deck and not the Graveyard?" Richua followed up.
"A fair question but rather than me telling you all the answers, I'll show you." I eluded.
Not to mention that this is some gimmicky gameplay that the designers of the game intended and had to nerf it to the ground with links. But not that they need to know that. In fact, Pendulums completely fell off the grid with Links intervening and only a handful of decks continue using it… Endymion… Vaylantz… Magician…
"Now then as mentioned before, we will go into Lesson 4. You can only Pendulum Summon once per turn and when you do, you can Pendulum Summon from your hands and from your face-up Extra Deck. Now then, Tanaka. What were the monsters that were sent to the Extra Deck from my field?"
"Huh… uh… you Special Summon 2… then… tribute 1 and… 1…" He runs his fingers trying to keep track of everything. If only he looked at his duel disk more with a duel log and all. But of course, my junior is the one who answered it for me.
"2, Dinomist Brachion and Dinomist Ceratops." Richua answered with her duel disk in hand.
"Correct, from here, I shall Pendulum Summon from my extra deck, Dinomist Brachion (Level 5/Water/Machine/Pendulum Effect/2000/800) and Dinomist Ceratops (Level 5/Water/Machine/Pendulum/Effect/2100/400)." The two monsters returned.
"Lesson 5, due to the monsters I have on my field, I can use them for the summoning of a monster from my Extra Deck. I open the overlay network for the summoning of a Rank 5 monster. The summoning condition is 2 Level 5 monsters. I create an overlay network (5) by using Dinomist Brachion and Dinomist Ceratops as overlay unit. Beware the swarm but fear the prime as nothing hurts more than a sting from a bee. Xyz Summon, Rank 5 Drill Driver Vespenato (Rank 5/Earth/Machine/Xyz 2/Effect/2500/2100)." A large yellow machine that looks like a bee appear from a wormhole of stars with 2 orbs orbiting around it. "Summoning is complete. I set one card and end my turn."
Tanaka – 3300 3
Yuuki - 4000 0 (P Scale 3 ~ 6)
"Pendulum and Xyz." I heard Reiji mouthed, no doubt formulating everything he is learning. Considering he is the user of the most complicated deck in Yugioh, I don't doubt him. I've even used D/D/D deck once, and the amount of 2 and 1 card combo strings it can do is simply unimaginable and diverse… until Gilgamesh was printed and all the combos would always lead into that guy.
"My turn, draw." My opponent pulls out a card and grin. Guess he top decked something. "I activate Raigeki!"
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh!
A lightning strike the field and my field is covered in smoke.
"With this card, I can destroy every monster my opponent control!" He explained, which I already know.
"Well, you are decent enough. Which transition to Lesson 6, one way to remove Pendulum Monsters is to simply destroy them all in one swoop, so basically, you've outed the field of 2 monsters with 1 card." I explained, "HOWEVER, I activate the effect of Dinomist Pteran in my Pendulum Zone, if another Dinomist card I control would be destroyed by battle or by card effect, I can destroy this card instead, in other words, Dinomist Rex is safe." The pterodactyl like machine is destroyed instead and in turn, as the smoke clears, my T-Rex like machine is safe.
"Of course, Drill Driver Vespenato is destroyed because it is not a Dinomist, HOWEVER, Vespenato's effect activates, when this card is destroyed by my opponent's card, I can special summon from my graveyard 1 level 5 or lower monster. Which leads to lesson 7, Pendulum Monsters that are overlayed to an Xyz monster follows the same rule of being sent to the Graveyard when detached or if the Xyz monster leaves the field. And because of this, I can special summon Dinomist Ceratops (Level 5/Water/Machine/Pendulum/Effect/2100/400) from my graveyard." At the mention of that monster, Ceratops return to the field for a second time.
"Why won't your monsters die!" my opponent grumble and I'm reminded of some new players to the game. Besides, this isn't even my best deck and he is already complaining. Wait till he meets some of the more annoying metas… Sprights… Swordsoul… Tearlaments… "Fine, if that is the case, I activate Polymerization!"
Oh!
"I can use monsters on my field and hands to create a fusion monster! I fuse Barrel Dragon and Blowback Dragon!"
Those cards… I remember them… and the only fusion monster that uses those cards as fusion material is none other than the coin flip monster…
"Unleash your firepower and rain down destruction upon everything! Fusion Summon! The dragon that is heavy and metal –
Gatling Dragon (Level 8/Dark/Machine/Fusion/Effect/2600/1200)
Oh, it has been a while Gatling Dragon… A card from Flaming Eternity, way back when King Dragun was a thing and so was Nephthys. A shame those cards aren't as popular now, although Deck Devastating Virus on the other hand… hmm…
"I activate my Gatling Dragon's effect!" Oh right, the coin flips. Gatling Dragon's effect is that you flip 3 coins and destroy as many monsters on the field as possible, up to the number of heads. "Spin, Russian Roulette!" I see the dragon's gatling barrel rotate and revving up and then stops one by one. As they stops, I could hear an audible click from 2 of the three gatling guns. In other words, of the three "coin toss" he did, 2 of them are heads. "I am very lucky today! Gatling Dragon can now destroy 2 monsters on the field! Go! Lead Storm Barrage! FIRE!"
The Gatling Dragon revs up two of its gatling guns and fires. Arguably, I could block my monster's destruction with Ankylos in my Pendulum Zone… but the kicker here is that it protects my Dinomist cards from activated card effects that targets. Unfortunate for me, Gatling Dragon is not a target effect.
I watch as dust and smoke kick up as my monsters were destroyed in a bullet storm. They are then sent to the Extra Deck due to them being Pendulum Monsters.
"Yeah!" he cheered.
"Well done… well done, Lesson 8, never celebrate too quickly. I activate the effect of Dinomist Charge. When a Dinomist card is added from my field to the Extra Deck face-up, I can add 1 of those card to my hand. I return Dinomist Ceratops to my hands. At the same time, I activate my trap card Dinomist Eruption. When a Dinomist monster I control is destroyed by battle or card effect, I can target 1 card my opponent control and destroy it."
"What!" My opponent watches as his Gatling Dragon exploded. "My monster…"
"This duel is over… you have no more cards in your hand while I have Pendulum Summon thanks to Ceratops being in my hand. When I pendulum summon Rex and Pteran, whose total attack points are 4200, I win."
"Save me the lecture, I am not foolish to think I stand a chance to win on my next turn." I watched my opponent placed his hand on his deck. "I surrender."
Tanaka – 3300 0 Surrender
Yuuki - 4000 0 (P Scale 6) Win
"Well fought," I complimented, "A lot of rough edges but I am sure with a few fixes and practice, you can get better."
"Save your sympathies, you win, I am done." He got up and leave.
Tanaka's POV
"Hey, where you going?" I heard my opponent called me out.
"Where else, I'm resigning." I answered.
"Resigning? Why?"
"I lost ok, I'm not even a legitimate teacher." I answered. "I'm not even a good duelist if I lose to an ordinary guy like you."
…
"Really…" He responded with a head scratch. "Let me ask you this question, why are you here in the first place?"
"Only one reason, to meet with the Machine Emperor. Ever since I hear how he was able to defeat all three upper management at once, I thought I can learn from him. But…"
"You were too old to apply as a student, so you apply a job here." He conjectured which I do not refute because he was right. "From your deck, I can tell you have the money too so you pay some guy in LDS to get a position."
"Welp, I didn't say that. But yes." From the corner of my eyes, I can see Reiji giving out some orders, no doubt has something to do with my ill-gotten position. "Well, I think I should write my resignation letter now."
"Now hold on just a minute. Reiji-san, I want you to keep this guy's job." I turned in shocked, "I can see a raw diamond in the rough with this guy and I can vouch for him that he will achieve a lot under Richua's tutelage."
"Wait, wha-" I can only flabbergast at what he is proposing.
"Sigh, honestly senpai this is the second time you throw your responsibility to me." I heard Ibi-senpai exclaimed, then it hit me.
"Senpai?" I turned to the man who defeated me. "You… are…"
"You want an autograph?"
Richua's POV
Several days have passed since that duel and suffice to say, my senpai was right once again. Tanaka had severely improved from his previous attitude. Before, he was a good for nothing teacher who did not at all teach his class. Now, he is completely the opposite of how he once was. He would greet everyone, he would be polite and even did not hesitate to ask about the things he doesn't know. On top of that, his sleaziness is completely gone.
"Ibi-senpai," I heard him called me. His face tensing as he handed me his lesson plans. I inspect and could only give a nostalgic smirk. Suffice to say, it gave him happiness.
When the class begins as usual, I observed how Tanaka started the class.
"Welcome back to my class, I am Tanaka Nantoka, a fan of Yuuki-senpai and your teacher for this class."
Needless to say, he has changed. It was unexpected, but it was welcoming.
Author's Note: Apologies for the lateness, due to the announcement and release of new cards that caught my interest, I must however revamp certain duels. The main plot is majorly the same but other minor details is subjected to change. These changes includes future character appearances along side relationships, Harem members (I did not forget that) and most importantly the duels.
I won't rant and say how difficult my life and writing duels are. Instead what I will confirm to everyone is that the harem comes much later.
And yes, the cute Kohai is one of them and I already have it planned out on how it will become official.
Another thing I must tell everyone is that not all female characters will be in the harem. Think of them as close friends. After all, I prefer integrity and natural relationship instead of senseless attraction.
In any case, thank you all for reading once more. As of posting this chapter being posted on (13-8-23), I have written up until A1 C5 but am still trying to polish my next chapter.
