"People are dead because of me?" Buffy stared at the younger Xander. "What people? What are you talking about?"
"In the Anita Blake books Executioners can only destroy a vampire if they have a warrant, they're cops, sort of, eventually Federal Marshalls. You're the real life equivalent, a supernatural cop. Except vampires don't have legal status here. There's an unofficial kill on sight attached to them. Soul or no soul, Angel is the enemy, you got involved with the enemy and after the curse broke, you let him go, repeatedly. Each time you did that, humans died. Which would legally make you an accessory to murder, if the same rules that apply in the Anita Blake universe applied here. You're also guilty of accessory to torture because you left Giles to be tortured for several hours by Angelus and abandoning your post when you ran away. Both you and Giles should have realized you were severely, emotionally compromised by your relationship with Angel, a relationship that should never have happened in the first place. You should never have been the one to deal with Angelus after the curse broke. Since the world doesn't acknowledge the supernatural, you can't be held legally responsible for your choices, but you can be held morally responsible. The rest of us were told by someone we believed had authority, Giles, to not interfere. Legally and because we would not have been considered official, like you are, we can't be held accountable for not doing anything. Although it could be argued, that I could because the military knowledge in my head gives me some insight into how the military would view your actions. However, the military has no authority in civilian matters, the most a civilian is expected to do is report a crime, which means we should have contacted the Watchers Council since they provide oversight over the Slayer. The fact that they never made any move to do so suggests Giles didn't report your actions to them. Legally that would make him an accessory as well, to both your's and Angelus' actions as well. Especially since he allowed the relationship in the first place and the relationship itself is illegal."
"You did mention earlier that this Anita Blake knew a lot about the law," Giles commented. "and you received her beginning power and general knowledge when the wish made you an Executioner."
The younger Xander nodded. "There will be a moral reckoning for Buffy's choices. Everyone eventually has to be held accountable for their choices. And we have to live with our choices."
"And we made it possible by reviving her." Local Xander said. "So these beings wanting to balance things think our curses, me being an immortal techno vampire and you being the first Executioner, balance that choice, the choice we made to try to save her. A choice that would have been unnecessary if she hadn't decided to follow the instructions that basically said, if you want to die do exactly what this book says. If you want to live find another way. Like if we'd gone with Plan B."
"Plan B?" Buffy asked.
"The Ash Williams Method of dealing with the Evil Dead." Local Xander answered. "Use a chain saw. It's real effective."
'We can't undo what's been done." The younger Xander told them. "Crimes have been committed, undoing it gives us a free pass for the choices we made. We have to live with the consequences. Unfortunately, so do others. Because there's always ripple effects."
"But someone else made me the Slayer, don't they have to pay for that?!"
"I just said everyone has to pay for their choices, Buffy. Those who are responsible for the existence of the Slayer are included in that."
"But I'm just a kid!"
"You argued that if you were old enough to fight and die for people, than you were old enough to decide who you could date, it than follows that you're also responsible for the actions that follow from that choice. You can't have it both ways, Buffy. Either you're old enough to decide or you're not. If you're old enough to decide, than you're old enough to have judgement passed on you for your actions. It's why teenagers in some situations can be tried as adults. If you're going to act like an adult in one way, than you're expected to be an adult in all ways."
"You've given us a lot to think about." Giles told the younger Xander. "I will have to do as my counterpart did and consult the Spirit Guides. In the meantime, we need to find Anyanka and see about sending you back to your home reality. Does your knowledge of Magic include a method to do that?"
"It does, but I don't know if it translates into real Magic." Younger Xander answered. "Oh, by the way," He address the local Xander. "Both you and Willow have the potential to be very powerful and that was before the changes. Just remember to be careful and take baby steps and don't let Willow rush ahead like she does with every other subject, because Magic isn't at all the same. The curse could have killed Willow outright, very nearly did. It's like trying to do open heart surgery without even having read a medical book."
"Gotcha." Local Xander nodded. "Well, let's go find Anyanka. You and Amy both have reason to vent at her, then we can send you back."
