The night in Saarbrücken was growing colder, and exhaustion was beginning to take its toll on the group. After the disastrous experience at the previous hotel, they were all on edge, especially Camille, who had become increasingly irritable as the evening wore on.

"Can we please just find somewhere to sleep?" Camille groaned, rubbing her temples. "I can't keep my eyes open anymore."

"We're working on it, Camille," Alfie assured her, though he was feeling the fatigue as well. He pulled out his phone, hoping to quickly find another place to stay. But as he unlocked it, the screen revealed that his battery was down to a precarious 15%.

"Great," he muttered under his breath, knowing they were cutting it close. "My phone's dying, so we need to make this quick."

Mindy, equally exhausted, leaned against Emily. "Please tell me you found something. I'm too tired to even care if it's fancy at this point."

Emily nodded in agreement, barely stifling a yawn. "We just need somewhere clean and with a decent bed. That's it."

Alfie quickly searched for nearby hotels, scrolling through the options while trying to conserve as much battery as possible. After a few minutes, he found one that seemed promising—Mercure Hotel, a reputable chain that was known for being affordable yet comfortable.

"Found something," Alfie announced, his voice a mix of relief and urgency. "It's called Mercure Hotel. It's not too far from here, and it looks decent."

"Please let it be clean," Camille mumbled, her eyes half-closed.

"Yeah, I get it," Alfie replied, feeling the pressure as he pocketed his phone and led them back to the car. "Let's just get there before my phone dies and we're stuck wandering around all night."

They piled into the car, the air thick with fatigue. Camille curled up in the backseat, her head resting against the window, while Mindy leaned on Emily's shoulder, both of them barely able to keep their eyes open. Alfie started the engine and drove off, the GPS guiding them through the quiet streets of Saarbrücken.

As they pulled up to the Mercure Hotel, the bright lights of the lobby were a welcome sight. It wasn't luxurious, but it was clean and modern, a far cry from the last place they'd stumbled upon. The girls all let out a collective sigh of relief.

"Finally," Mindy murmured as they stepped out of the car, her voice heavy with exhaustion.

They entered the hotel, and Alfie handled the check-in process while the girls waited on a plush sofa in the lobby, struggling to keep their eyes open. The receptionist handed over the key cards, and Alfie turned back to them with a tired smile. "Got us a room. Let's go."

They made their way to the room, and as they opened the door, the sight of a clean, well-kept space greeted them. The beds were neatly made with crisp white sheets, the carpet was spotless, and the bathroom gleamed with cleanliness. It wasn't luxurious, but it was exactly what they needed.

"Oh, thank God," Camille sighed, dropping her bag and immediately heading for the bathroom. "I'm taking the first shower."

Mindy and Emily were too tired to argue, so they nodded in agreement. "You go ahead," Emily said, sitting down on one of the beds and stretching her arms above her head. "I just need to brush my teeth, and I'm out."

Alfie, looking just as worn out, dropped his things near the couch. "I'll take the couch. It's actually not bad."

He pulled off his shirt, revealing his toned abs as he made himself comfortable on the couch. Emily, who was heading to the bathroom to grab her toothbrush, couldn't help but glance at him, her eyes lingering on his abs for a moment longer than she intended.

Alfie caught her gaze and smirked. "Like what you see, Cooper?"

Emily quickly looked away, a faint blush creeping up her cheeks. "I was just…making sure you were comfortable," she said, trying to sound casual as she grabbed her toothbrush and toothpaste.

Mindy, who had noticed the exchange, raised an eyebrow but decided to keep quiet, too tired to tease her friend. Instead, she grabbed her pajamas and waited for Camille to finish her shower.

"Just hurry up in there, Camille," Mindy called out playfully. "Some of us need our beauty sleep."

Camille's voice echoed from the bathroom, "Almost done, don't worry."

Once Camille finished, she emerged from the bathroom looking much more relaxed. Mindy took her turn, and Emily brushed her teeth quickly before changing into her pajamas.

As they all got ready for bed, the atmosphere in the room was much calmer. The tension and irritability from earlier in the night had faded, replaced by a shared sense of relief that they'd finally found somewhere decent to stay.

Alfie stretched out on the couch, pulling a blanket over himself as the girls settled into their beds. "Good night, everyone," he mumbled, his voice already thick with sleep.

"Good night," the girls replied in unison, their voices barely audible as they succumbed to their exhaustion.

As Emily lay in bed, she couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. The day had been long and filled with unexpected challenges, but there was something comforting about ending it with her friends. Even though things between them had been rocky, moments like this reminded her that they were still in it together.

She glanced over at Mindy, who was already fast asleep, and then at Camille, who was lying on her back, staring up at the ceiling. For a brief moment, their eyes met, and Camille gave Emily a small, tired smile.

"Thanks for earlier," Camille whispered, her voice soft in the darkness.

Emily smiled back. "Anytime."

With that, Camille closed her eyes, and Emily followed suit, finally letting herself drift off to sleep. The road trip was only just beginning, and there was no telling what the next day would bring, but for now, they had each other, and that was enough.
