Merlin finished off the last of the pitcher, left it on his bedside, and climbed into his bed barely remembering to remove his boots and trousers before burrowing himself into his pillow.
Merlin.
…
Merlin.
…
MERLIN!
Merlin got up with a start he knew that annoying voice more than he knew his own. Sighing he grabbed at his cloak and shoved on his boots. He made his way outside his chamber looked both ways and then headed in the direction he knew that overgrown lizard would be when he was suddenly pulled into a nearby alcove.
"Morgana?"
"You were late."
"I got in an argument with father mind if we postpone-" Merlin said trying to make his way out of the alcove when her hand grabbed his wrist and pulled him back.
"I do mind actually. You made a promise Merlin."
"I did, but I can't right now?"
"Why the hell not. What could you possibly be doing in your underwear and reeking of wine at this hour."
Merlin blushed as he noticed his cloak had opened quickly readjusting his cloaks broach he turned to look at her to see her eyes. They looked red.
"Were you crying." What meant to be a question sounded more like a statement due to Merlin's bluntness. Merlin blamed the wine.
"No. Of course not." Morgana answered unconvincingly shaking her head causing her hair to cover her face.
Merlin smirked but let the comment slide as he raised his hand to brush her hair behind her ear. "Of course. Go back to your chambers Milady. I will head there after I'm done."
Morgana scoffed and took a step back. "You better be there. Right after."
Merlin nodded and quickly peaked out of the alcove when he saw no one coming he made his way out and towards the outside of the castle and towards the shore of the isle where the den of dragons lay. Quickly tiptoeing past several claws and tails he finally made it inside an old alter room where the red dragon lay surrounded by hundreds of dragon eggs and several torches meant to provide warmth for the eggs.
"You called me?"
"Yes. Young warlock."
"Would you like to tell me why?"
"It's time to meet your destiny?"
"Which one I seem to have several?"
"While that is so this will be your most challenging one."
"Is that right?"
"Yes."
"What must I do?"
"You must leave the isle."
Merlin laughed, "Can you repeat that?"
"It is no time for jokes. You must leave the Isle to meet your destiny."
"Yeah right. Did father put you up to this? A test. He loves his tests what is it one of loyalty or some quack.
"I assure you your father knows nothing of this. Not yet, I am sure once you leave he will command me to tell him, so I recommend you leave quickly and do a good job of staying hidden."
"You're serious! You really want me to leave the Isle?"
"It is your destiny."
"Okay, but why now and why must I leave the isle."
"You must discover that on your own."
"What about my destiny here. I am nowhere near mastering magic and despite my classes, there is still so much I do not know about being a dragon lord."
"Those aren't as important they are less urgent."
"Try telling father, that."
"You should go."
"What now!"
"I don't mean to leave the Isle. I am sure you have much to think about."
"By when then?"
"The sooner the better."
Right. Merlin mind spoke to the Great Dragon before bowing his head in respect and making his way out the way he came.
