Merlin yawned as he was making his way towards his room before he remembered that Morgana needed him. He sighed in annoyance and switched his route if he didn't go see her he wouldn't be surprised if she managed to sneak into his chambers out of spite.
"Lord Merlin?"
Merlin jumped before turning around sighing when he figured it was just Gilly? Gill?
"Gil." the servant said amused.
Did he say that out loud? "Gill. I knew… know your name. Well I'm gonna go now." Merlin started to turn only to pause.
"Wait."
"Yes Gil?"
"Where are you heading I thought your chambers were in the other direction?"
"Well obviously. If I am taking a stroll I wouldn't just be pacing back and forth by my chambers now would I. Onto other matters. What exactly are you doing"
Merlin made his way to Morgana's chambers after getting rid of... Gilli? and softly opened the door, pleased that it was unlocked.
"Morgana?"
The lady was by the window at his presence she smiled and turned to face him.
"I was afraid that I would have had to track you down."
Merlin laughed and rubbed the back of his neck.
"I told you I was going to show up didn't I?"
Morgana nodded before making her way to the bed. "So where do you wish to start?"
"Well first lets see what you can do. Morgause said you started showing signs of instinctual magic."
Morgana nodded, "Yes, it's just I don't know how to control it. Its more than just instinctual its emotional. The other day I got into an argument with Morgause and the window shattered."
"What else? If Morgause came to me she must have been really concerned and I know your sister she wouldn't be concerned over something like a broken window."
"I." Morgana stops turning to look away.
"What? Morgana come on you can tell me."
"I set her cloak sleeve on fire and then I got nervous and scared and the flame grew larger and stronger."
'You burned your sister? Yeah that's probably it."
"You think," Morgana growled, "can you help me."
"Not very lady like. And yes I can. Or at the very least I will try. Does anyone else know about you or is it just me and Morgause?"
"Just you two but…"
"Morgana?"
"What if I can't control it and Nimue finds out."
"Nim? What's wrong with Nim finding out? Sure she is… Well you know how she is but you must admit she's more qualified to teach than I am."
"She hates me."
"Don't be ridiculous why would she hate you?"
"She just does okay. I can't explain it."
"Right. Well show me."
"Show you what?"
"Your magic. You said you conjured a fire. Can you do it again."
"I don't know how."
"Yes you do." Merlin smiled and made his way to sit beside her on the bed. "Can I?" Merlin asked reaching for her hands and placing his over hers.
"You did it before. All you have to do now is control it. Picture the fire from last time. Can you see it. Wild. Out of control. Now look at my hand. It's calm and steady over yours. Its warm. I'm gonna let go of your hands, but I want you to keep thinking of the incident. Okay.
Merlin let go of Morgana's hand and opened his palm watching as a small flame came to life. "Instinctual magic is about feeling. Last time you felt angry and your flame was angry. Instinctual magic believe it or not also has some sense of control involved as well. You were angry your magic was out of control. I am calm. My magic is in control and does what I will it to. If I want it to grow I imagine it get bigger." The flame grows brighter.
"I picture the fireplace when more kindling is added. I can picture the flame rise higher. Or I can picture the flame getting dim." The flame gets smaller. The flame doesn't matter. I do. As I can wield it as I desire. And so can you."
Merlin closes his palm into a fist over the flame making it disappear. "Now you try."
Morgana nodds and opens her palm.
"You can do it. You know what you did wrong last time. Now you can do better. You don't have to be afraid."
"I am not afraid."
"You are. You are hesitating. Try closing your eyes and picturing a flame in your palm, imagine the warmth." Morgana closes her eyes but nothing, not even a spark appears. "Morgana I know you can do it, but if something is holding you back you need to let me know what it is. Otherwise we're just wasting each other's time."
"I'm not holding anything back."
Merlin sighs and moves closer to Morgana. "Don't lie to me. Please."
"I don't want to be out of control. What if I hurt you?"
"You won't. I promise."
Morgana nods before closing her eyes again.
Merlin reaches out and places his hand on her wrist. "If you are afraid and want to be more in control maybe you can try a verbal spell. Do you know the spell for fire. You probably have seen your sister use it before."
Morgana nods.
"Try it."
Morgana opens her palm. "Forbean."
Merlin's eyes flash gold and he smiles when he sees Morgana opened her eyes and saw the flame in her hand.
"That's perfect now just picture it disappear."
Morgana nods as the flame grows smaller and dimmer till her hand closes.
"I did it."
"I had no doubts."
Morgana laughs and pushes him slightly.
"Alright maybe I had some, but I knew you'd get it. You have always been a fast learner."
"Thank you."
Merlin looked away and cleared his throat.
"Try it again." Merlin said smiling slightly seeing her confidence grow.
Morgana nodded and opened her palm she pictured a flame just like Merlin had told her muttered the spell softly but with more precision. Merlin looked at Morgana and laughed proudly when he saw her eyes glow gold.
"That was amazing. Now…"
"I know." Morgana said cutting him off and watching as the flame dimmed like before.
"Morgana that's great. Well done. I should go."
"What? That's it."
"Yes." Merlin rises as he makes his way towards the door. "You know what to do. You can keep practicing on your own or with your sister then next time we meet you can show me and I can teach you something else."
"But we just started."
"Morgana."
"Merlin come on please. One more spell."
"I'm tired 'Gana. Besides you barely know how to do this spell now you can practice on your own also you should try and do it non verbally."
"Fine. You're right. But it's late and it wouldn't do either of us any good if someone saw you leaving my chambers."
Merlin blushes slightly she couldn't possibly be implying that he…
"You should go through the servants corridor."
Merlin let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. He nodded. "You're right."
"Goodnight Merlin."
"Goodnight Morgana."
