Toph was having a blast in the fights, having bought a nice dress to hide she was the Blind Blandit. Most of the competitors were dumb from all the rocks thrown at them, so if they ever doubt she was that blind girl didn't voice it.
"Any other challenger that wants to step up?" The announcer said as the people cheered on, a few booing the pretty girl in the dress. She puffed her chest, her growth spurt showed as she was taller than the last time she had shown up. Her hair was tightly in a bun and her usual loose hair were held in place by some jewelry she brought with the dress.
The crowd cheered harder as another challenger got on the stage, she smiled after he stepped in the arena. "I do remember you" Toph said focusing "That doesn't mean I will be easy on you"
"Ready to dance cutie?" He said mockingly, fighting stance ready.
"Oh you will dance, with your face on the floor" She grinned, waiting for the bell to ring.
The match began and so did their attacks. He tied several times to dodge her attacks but failed to do so, refuging himself with a propulsion. "Smart" She said waiting for the sound of his feet on the floor or the rock to come towards her.
"Already running away? I thought you loved dancing!" She mocked dodging the rock and throwing it back with more force, probably breaking a side of the arena as she heard people running.
He was on his feet with a melee attack, she pulled up the floor for him and he smashed it with his fist, a wave of heat rushing through the arena as more screams were heard. "LAVABENDING?!" Toph thought excited, launching herself to a higher ground so it wouldn't affect her. The guy in question controlled expertly were he wanted the lava to flow.
"Nice one!" She said launching more stones at him, preparing her gloves to go melee. He dodged almost all of them, the last rock hitting him in the stomach. The fight was over as soon as Toph got a hold of him, several pillars around as if it was a prison.
"Alright!" He said rising his hands up in defeat. The expectator already left the arena, leaving both of them alone "You won miss Beifong"
"You recognized me huh? Not all of you are dumb" She said letting him go as the lava died down.
"Who wouldn't? The powerful blind bandit…a legend" He said dreamily, making her smirk.
"Yes sir, I hope you know I can easily recognize you Noburu" Toph said smiling again, punching his shoulder, making him laugh.
"I counted on you recognizing me to be honest, I hoped to fight you one day and you served" Toph turned away from him, feeling a lovely blush creep to her face. "At least he knows his place"
"Of course I would, I can see everything" She said noticing the increased heartbeat on him
"Well, I am glad to have seen you again, it's been some months since our last encounter at the festival" He said stepping aside her, trying to see her face.
"Oh right! A lot of stuff happened and then the tour began, bad time" She replied without much care, a chuckle escaping him.
"It was indeed."
"That thing you did, lavabending" Toph interrupted the friendly chat, attracted to the sub bending "Since when?"
"Well, I think since I was 8? I have learned how to control the flow better and to cauterize with that" He explained, touching the floor to show Toph even if she couldn't see it. "I am not sure how it happened if that's what you are asking"
"Don't sweat it, maybe I could find it on my own" She said gently swatting his arm, a faint blush creeping Noburu's face.
"I am sure you will, you are the best" He flirted, pulling an arm around her. She let him embrace her like that, blushing at the contact until he sensed another person in the room.
"I am sure this is something illegal isn't it?" Zuko asked stepping into the light, making Noburu step in front until he recognized him.
"Sir I'm sixteen" Noburu said choking, as Zuko frowned and looked at Toph.
"Not you! Toph, what are you doing on underground bending matches again? "
"You mean this is not the first time? I should have come sooner" Noburu muttered,
"You really should have" Toph answered him getting out of his grasp. "Let's go sparky, I let you and Suki have enough time to talk alone"
Zuko rolled his eyes at the mention of his friend "Sorry Noburu, I…"
"Nothing to be sorry of, it was my pleasure being in company of Toph" He explained walking behind her. "So this is were we split again"
"Probably, next time I'll probably give you a shot" Toph winked (As best as she could), a giggle escaping Noburu.
"Until next time" Noburu said watching the war heroes walk away, dreamily sitting on the destroyed ground.
"Sokka wake up! We are arriving!" Katara screamed excited, making a grumpy Sokka sit on the saddle, stretching up.
"Just when I finally got some sleep" Sokka grumbled, his head hurting for overthinking the night before.
He looked below to see the upper ring of Ba sing se, where they were staying, thanks to Zuko's petition. He would have preferred the king's palace. Appa descended as he clutched to the saddle. Closing his eyes, a faint memory of Suki crying made him open them again.
They were almost on the ground, were he could see the heads of his friends. A chill ran on his back, unsure of how to salute all of them without rising a lot of suspicion.
"Sugar Queen! Snoozles! Welcome back!" Toph screamed as Appa groaned loudly "You too Appa!"
"She seems on an exceptional good mood" Sokka thought helping Katara with her bags. He climbed down, seeing the interactions of the group, almost scared to stand there and interrupt the vibe.
He walked and looked first at Zuko, whose eyes showed an attitude, but he couldn't put his finger on it. The boys hugged, a few pats on Sokka's back. Not a word was exchanged as they separated, a punch coming swiftly after.
"Hello too, Toph" Sokka said chuckling. He saw Suki and Katara hugging tightly, the warriors eyes meeting for a split second before he decided to look away. His heart almost jumped out of his throat "Maybe the letter didn't arrive at all and I'll have to tell her" he thought
"I am sure that heart flutter wasn't for me" She mocked, knowing what had happened the last few days. Sokka blushed, dropping the bags and walking to her sister and lover, or former lover, he wasn't sure. They were amicably chatting, his steps made him feel as if he walked on the water, drowning every step he got closer.
Her eyes met his, feeling a familiar sharp pain in her heart as she held her gaze. His eyes were bigger than the last time they saw each other, the insecurity and fear showing in them. She had forgotten she was beside Katara, the noise of the voice dying down as she lost herself in him.
"I'll go" Katara said excusing herself, walking behind his brother were all of his friends were trying to ignore what was going on.
"Hi…" Suki said with shame, as Sokka looked for his necklace on her.
"Suki…" He said less cheery than he would have two years ago "Of course she read the letter, why did I thought she will accept?"
She decided to close the space between them, like the first time, planting a warm kiss on his left cheek. It felt nostalgic to him with his hand moving instinctively where she placed the kiss.
"Good to see you again" Suki smiled, even if her eyes showed sadness, letting him standing there alone. He was dumbstruck, until Aang dragged him with them, some time later.
"How did the whole trip went?" Toph asked them, Katara preparing to talk.
"It was tough, there was only one opposition in the whole team. Electra helped us get over him" Katara explained, helping set down the table so all could share a meal.
Suki and Aang were cooking, amicably talking about the coldness in the north. Sokka and Zuko sat in silence, unsure of how to start the conversation again.
"Would it be too obvious this is awkward if we talk about work?" Sokka thought playing with his fingers, until he heard something drop faintly in the background and Suki apologizing. He turned around to see Aang helping her pick up a vase she dropped.
"What happened to the people that ambushed you?" Sokka asked Zuko, as he thought about it.
"They were thrown in a cell, Aang decided not to be that gentle" He remembered the avatar's face with a chill on his spine, his voice as serious as always. "I'm glad he chose that"
Sokka only stared, seeing his golden eyes die a little, wondering to himself if he should ask more until Toph butted in.
"You should have seen Suki! She rolled heads!" Toph said excited, exaggerating her hands. Katara looked at her annoyed. "No, literally! Suki! You didn't tell them?" Toph looked at the direction where Aang and Suki were cooking. The warrior ignored her, focusing instead on making the dumpling as aesthetic as she could.
"I think it look's amazing that way" Aang whispered to her, seeing how her hand was shaking.
"It could be better" She whispered back, rearranging the plate. Aang placed a hand above hers, stopping her as she looked to him.
"Suki, it's okay" He smiled, picking up the plate and gesturing her to bring the rice. She followed the order, a pit in her stomach growing as the reached their places. Not as concidential as she would have wished, her seat was besides Zuko and in front of Sokka, Katara between him and Aang.
She sat down and decided instead to focus on the clothes he was wearing. She couldn't pin point the exact moment his stare began to weight her down, but today it certainly showed. As they shared the food and Zuko served them tea, eating was more of an habit than of necessity.
Sokka on the contrary, was a bottomless pit. The anxiety made him hungrier than usual.
"So tell us sweetie, how did you put all of them in their places?" Aang asked innocently with big puppy eyes, making Katara take the wheel of the conversation.
"Well, they were trying to do some outdated arrangements to accept my law" Katara explained evading details, to Toph's annoyance.
"Hey, I want details, we weren't there to see you in action. You can be scary and I want to imagine it" Toph said sipping her tea. Katara eyed Sokka uncomfortable, Zuko saw this interaction and quickly united the points.
"I'm sure they skipped the details as they are not relevant to the story Toph" Zuko intervened
"Well, no wonder sugar queen stories tend to be the lamest!" She answered, making Katara huff "Let me tell you briefly how Suki became a badass on the ambush"
"Oh! Your hand!" Katara said worried, focusing on Suki "Can I check it?"
"It's alright" Suki answered gently, waving it "It's fine now, a little bit weak but nothing to worry of"
"Yeah, she still kicked ass with it bleeding" Toph added, using a chopstick for reference. Sokka's ears immediately perked up, but decided not to say anything.
"Toph, that's nothing to be that proud of" Aang said, trying to calm her. Suki decided to ignore Toph's attempts to cheer her up.
"Nah, I do think it's something to be proud of. Zuko and Suki made her eat shit and she deserved it" Toph replied passing the conversation to them, as Zuko glared at her. "I can feel you staring Zuko, talk already"
"I killed someone with my fan, that's what Toph's saying" Suki said harshly, wanting to end the conversation. "It was a last resort"
Sokka's eyes grew amazed, his mouth opening a bit in shock. Katara gasped loudly and covered her mouth looking at Suki's hand. The latter ignored the reactions and kept eating as if was nothing.
"It was awesome" Toph whispered with a grin "not even a great firebender could stop the leader of the Kyoshi warriors"
"You are right about that" Sokka added smiling at Suki as Aang bumped his elbow at him. Suki felt him staring but ignored him, instead looking at Katara.
"You didn't get to finish your story" She reminded her, Katara smiled and tried to open her mouth before Sokka interrupted her.
"Hold on, it's politics, it's boring. What else you guys have been doing here?" Sokka asked as Aang and Zuko looked at each other.
"Oh right! I went to underground tourneys and managed to heal out a drug of a body" Toph said proudly, making Zuko put aggressively down his vase, gathering the attention.
"Can we hear what happened at the north? I don't think that's…"
"How did you do it?" Katara asked excited "That's something I haven't heard of!"
Toph gulped realizing she had to explain the whole story. Suki stood up and began to pick up her food, being to uncomfortable to reveal any of the two stories: Either Sokka's brief engagement or her drug escape. Zuko followed, a spike of jealousy inside Sokka rised as he saw how protective he was being with her.
Sokka already had seen this painting: The firelord was the same with his sister.
As Toph danced around about the way she discovered her new ability, recognizing it was not her duty to share the story, Sokka walked towards the rooms they were staying. He passed by Katara's, already set up, who was next to the one he wanted to be.
He closed the door behind him, carefully looking at the room that was, apparently, normal. He laid down on the bed, her smell present as the silk moved with his body. Shame crashed down on him, too stubborn to admit his mistake out loud.
He didn't said that to Electra to protect the law, he tried to dump Suki without being too hurtful to him, and she saw through that. Electra's words stinging "You and I will never last"
And the more he tried to convince himself, the more their kiss burned his lips. What was Suki to him then? His cheek burned, where her lips had just touched. He sighed heavily, thinking what was missing between them.
Yue had already pin pointed it, he idolized her too much. Both girls. Was Electra the taste of reality he yearned? "Maybe I'm too scared Suki will disappoint me" He thought sitting up.
A pair of purple eyes stared at him by the door, making Sokka jump briefly.
"Do you want me to sleep with your sister?" She asked roughly, walking towards a small bag. Sokka felt the need to talk, to justify himself, but it was time, they couldn't keep pushing the topic back.
"Suki, we need to talk" He said as gentle as he could, Suki stopped picking the clothes and sat on the other side of the bed, not looking at him.
"I'm listening" She replied, biting her lip.
He knew the moment he sees her, there is no other woman in the world to take him away from loving her. He could just outright say that, that it was all a mistake and the future between them will be brighter.
But he couldn't keep saying things because he was losing her.
"It's about us, as a couple"
Suki kept unresponsive, waiting for Sokka to keep talking.
"I suppose the letter arrived to you"
"You suppose right"
He gulped, it was true everything that was written, his crush, his high at seeing her letter with a kiss… he crawled in front of her, so she could see he was being sincere. Suki glared at him, the anger that had been boiling showing.
"You were going to marry Electra, what made you stop?" She asked, annoying a little bit the watertribe.
"I don't want to talk about that right…"
"Why? You honestly thought you could sent me that letter and not expect any kind of interrogation?" She said now frowning.
Sokka didn't said anything and opted to listen to her.
"You could have just told me this was over anyway, I am definitely NOT your type" His head tilted sideways confused. "You always go for this docile, gentle, exotic , princess-like girl"
Suki felt horrible for boxing in one of the most important girls in Sokka's life but she felt angry at their situation. The problem seems to fall more on him than her, she supposed.
"I am a red haired…" She said grabbing a chunk of it "basic…" she pointed at her face "not lady like islander who crushed on you and is still dealing with your shit"
As if she dropped a sack full of rocks, Suki felt lighter, noticing how she could breath in more air. She also noticed how wet her cheeks felt, immediately brushing off the tears. She would not cry again for Sokka.
Sokka felt crushed, seeing how his insecurity exacerbated hers. To him, she was the most unique, smart and beautiful girl he has had the opportunity to be with. Suki wasn't basic, Suki is his type.
Or will be. As he now is confused whether he should be with her o let her free to roam and grow the strong warrior she will be. He gulped, feeling pained at risking her love towards him. "I am not offering anything to her…I am weighting her down"
"You are the most gorgeous girl I have had the opportunity to be with. You don't need to be a princess because you are a goddess." He stared pained at her, grabbing and squeezing her hands to show how serious he was.
Suki somehow felt less and less worried about their futures… they were young after all. Maybe they could keep trying to make it work, maybe they needed more time to figure out how to deal with the relationship.
"But.."
Her eyes lowered, the third time is the winner. Her gut feeling was proving to be more and more accurate each time they managed to get some time alone.
"I think we need to search for ourselves first before being together again"
"How are you so sure there will be an again?" She spat back, trying to loose from his grip. Her insecurity rose up, her head feeling now heavy.
Sokka kept quiet at the thought of the future, he couldn't promise they would end up together. He had a feeling, but holding onto false hope wouldn't be a good thing to be in a relationship. Specially when he wanted more for her.
"We need to try it this time. We are not being ourselves and you know it" He said, her eyes showed a mix between disappointment and sadness, making Sokka feel worse.
"You said this time we would be together…but then you just…"She stopped talking at the thought of Electra. She wasn't at fault, not in the same level as Sokka. "That…Electra. Did something else happened?"
"Suki, we weren't in a relationship" he defended himself, internally cringing.
"I wasn't in one with Zuko yet, you decided to come back because of that"
It was a low blow and Sokka couldn't help and groan loudly, angered at her suggestions. Of course they were true and Suki already suspected something else happened. "Maybe it would help her get over me if I talk about kissing her"
The sadness in those midnight eyes stopped him from telling her. He couldn't do it, his mouth kept drying up and it made him nauseous. Her anxiety showed differently, as she bit her lip trying to not cry at all in front of him, a task more difficult then she had previously acknowledged. "Of course something happened, that's why you can't talk" Suki thought hurt.
"You are selfish…do you know that?" She talked without thinking, her eyes wide realizing she said it out loud. Sokka was now angry at her. "I am doing this for you, I am setting you free, how am I the one that is selfish?" he thought.
"Why? I am trying to think about something, lately I'm the only one doing it" He spat back, the first time he has in a long time towards her.
"I forgot thinking about it meant not thinking about us at all" She replied with the same passion.
"Oh? I am sorry Miss I'll sleep with…" He stopped himself before saying it, realizing how of an ass he was being. His old beliefs creeping up to his mind.
Suki's mouth fell open for a moment, closing it again to clench her teeth, the grip on the sheets was making her hands go white from it.
"You don't get to shame me for trying to heal myself after the mess you made" She said through her teeth, a small wave of guilt going through him, but it wasn't strong enough to stop him from talking.
"I was a mess too. Look at us, fighting about our relationship. Maybe I have been idolizing you too much"
The grip on the sheets was lost as the words weighed on her. Pieces of her heart falling off in front of Sokka. She stood up confused and walked away from the bed, towards the small bag she was prepping to move out.
Sokka sat there looking at how mechanical she had become, his own anger clouding the reason he was trying to break up, not bothering to calm down.
"You said we would be together forever afterwards..." Suki spoke, still packing. Sokka looked towards her way.
"I know what I…"
"And it's funny because I was so excited for you to come to me" Suki said turning towards him, with a letter and his necklace. Sokka stopped breathing for a minute. She was wearing it, as she sat in front of him.
He couldn't tear his sight away from her neck, his hand reaching it. Suki blushed at the intimacy, still heavy in her heart. "I am really trying Sokka, why can't you?"
She could see him blushing too.
"You were going to say yes…" He whispered.
"I was until that letter arrived"
Vomit. He wanted to vomit of all the feelings he was experiencing. No more going around the topic, they were really breaking up. For good.
"Suks.."
"I guess you didn't mean what you wrote in that letter about us" She said with a motionless voice. His eyes looking at the letter he vividly remember writing. "She still has it…" He thought sadly, gulping to not puke.
"I did mean it. I still mean it"
"Why do you all these things then? Am I not enough for you?" Suki said scooting closer "I do love you. I want you. I want this to work"
"There is a but isn't it?" He interrupted, grabbing her by the shoulders as he gazed at the necklace in her neck.
"You are the one putting all the "but's" Sokka" She said annoyed "I told you I wouldn't wait for you and here I am, feeling all stupid because I chose you while you chose somebody else"
"I haven't chose…"
Suki only glared, making him shut up. "You don't want me with you but you don't want me with somebody else"
Sokka grabbed his head, feeling weak. He heard her take a deep breath. His own head spun as he tried to collect his thoughts.
"I have idolized you too much Suki. When was the last time you told me your fears?"
The darkness in Suki wasn't visibly, but she could feel it. Her sight kept getting more and more cloudy and the scene in front of her was playing like a movie she kept watching.
"I…told you…" She said trying to remember something else that wasn't the airships in the war in Ba sing se.
"What else? Your time at the boiling rock? What about your family?"
"What about them?" She replied quickly, defensive.
"You are darkening at the mere thought" Sokka said still grabbing his head.
"Of course I would, you didn't know them" She defeneded, unsure why she had to justify not sharing those details.
"But I would have loved to" He said gathering enough courage to pull up his head and look at her. She looked disrupted.
"You would have hated them"
"Why? You never tell me anything about them" He replied leaning in for a hug "I have idolized you too much that I don't know anything about you other than Suki my saviour. I know you are more than that"
Suki quickly retreated, looking at him upset. "You see me as what?" She asked shocked. His mouth closed and he sighed, playing with his hands.
"See? I need to know more of you, I need you to trust me"
"And how can I trust you if you always run away from us?" Suki snapped as the darkening increased. "Six months ago.."
"Can you stop repeating that? I know I already messed up!" Sokka stood up, coughing a bit. "We both have made a mistake thinking we would be together after just six months"
Suki reached for her neck, unclasping and throwing his necklace towards him in a fit of anger, feeling betrayed and toyed.
"You didn't mean anything then…"
"Suki"
"You do this grand gestures of love and…then set your eyes to the next pretty girl that crosses your path. Your words don't have any value to me anymore" Sokka heard the pain in her voice, the only clue to him that she still had strong feelings towards him.
"I have tried to change that. It is not easy for me to just…throw all of me in a relationship. But believe me, I want to do it with you. This big step, this compromise, but this is not the right moment for either of us" He replied with a dry throat, a mix of hurt and darkness in it.
Suki stared with disbelief, here nose getting red for trying to suppress the urge to cry.
"My dad would have hated you" She stood up, trying to catch his height. "You want to know why? He was killed by someone of your tribe"
His mouth fell open, as Suki tried to control her breathing. "I never thought I would have to tell him…and this was not the moment" She thought feeling ashamed, she just wanted to shock him, made him feel as if she was the one choosing him, giving him an opportunity. "I said it to hurt him, this is not right"
"But…."
"And yet, I keep talking to him sometimes, praying and hoping he accepted us as a couple. I guess he won't have to worry about answering my wishes anymore"
The tension was palpable as Sokka imagined the sight, the last part of her family being taken away by someone of his own tribe. He couldn't just let her go after that…unless…this was her excuse?
"You hate us? The water tribe?" Sokka asked with fear of losing her forever. Suki turned away, feeling her eyes start to get wet.
"On the contrary, I adore you" She whispered, being it hard for her heart to admit it. "But I can't keep getting crumbs of love by you. It's not fair"
"It is not" He replied back hugging her from behind as his heart beat out of his chest, scared of her answer. "You should hate me"
"I have tried" She said with sadness, grabbing his hands between hers as they rocked side to side, dancing to an imaginary beat.
He let his head fall to the crook of her neck, their breathing patterns synching as they danced. Their grips got tighter, knowing there was no point in bickering anymore. They were just hurting each other. He missed the smell of her and she missed his warmness.
Now they would both miss each other.
Sokka got away, moving in front of her. The storm in her eyes observed him with sadness and exhaustion. His hand cupped her cheek and she grabbed it, not breaking eye contact with him.
Her darkening seemed to tone down when looking at him, as the sky blue made her ditzy and warm inside, even as if felt to her that he won't reciprocate the feeling. His mouth dried up whenever the words tried to get out of his mouth.
We are through.
"I can't" He thought clenching his teeth, his thumb caressing her cheek as she waited for him to talk. It did not matter the past to him anymore, nor his well being. He had to stick to his guns and his purpose.
As it always happened whenever he was with her, his body didn't respond to his brain. He leaned in and she backed away.
"What are you doing?" She asked confused, her heartbeat through the roof as she stared, confused.
"Can you just…don't move?" He asked getting closer again with a serious face.
She obeyed and let him kiss her, closing her eyes to loose herself in him. His other hand went to her face as hers laid on his waist. He frowned in the kiss "This ending is my fault"
It didn't last long, both parties pulling away with glossy eyes.
"What are we?" She whispered as their foreheads touched, the darkening increased at knowing the answer.
Sokka's warm breath always did magic inside Suki. It acted as a drug to her, relaxing and numbing her when times were rougher. She knew the option to rely on it would soon end, a distinct feeling of heartbreak growing in her heart.
He licked his lips, preparing to talk. The more he wanted to say it the more difficult it was to him: His heart, throat or the thought of loosing her forever stopped him.
"What are we…" He whispered, his hands going towards her hips, memorizing the curves and edges of her body.
Suki's body acted as a mind of it's own. Her fingers delicately touching all of his face, lips included, as she readied herself for it to be over.
"I will never feel this way towards anyone…" Suki whispered as he tried to supress a sniff "And I won't have a family either…"
"You deserve to be happy…" He said as his lip quivered, the emotions overwhelming him.
"But I want you…don't make me beg…" She pleaded, posing both hands on his chest, planning to ignore all of his recent mistakes to feel the high Sokka gave her. To feel he was hers.
"I want you too…I won't make you beg ever again…" He said, his own heart breaking at the words as his lips crashed on hers. The kiss started desperate, slowly returning to the usual pace until their air ran out.
Suki gasped loudly, both catching their breath,
"This is over, isn't it?" She asked, her pitch high. Sokka sniffled again, his grip on her hips getting stronger. He knew he could let himself go and it wouldn't hurt Suki at all, as her body was strong.
What he couldn't do is keep hurting her heart. He would win it back until he was a better man.
"It is" He said roughly, tears silently falling from his eyes. "You are free"
"Freedom.." Suki thought, as they slowly got away from each other "It's the same as being in my own personal hell"
Their eyes locked for a last time, both not being able to mutter a goodbye. She was excited by the new opportunity the city on the Earth kingdom would give them, but now it felt like a curse. Her darkness was full on her, as the only visible thing on her sight was his face.
"We agreed on creating a new city. I voted for you to choose the name" She said dizzily, the weight falling on her again.
He was surprised at the sudden change of topic, cleaning the best he could his tears as they kept streaming down.
"A new city?" he asked grabbing her hand. "Is this why…Zuko and Aang waited for us?"
"Yes" She replied, giving it a slight squeeze. "I am sure under the command of Team Avatar it would be the harmony we wanted to achieve"
"What do you mean harmony?" He asked lost a bit on the project "What we talked about mixing all of the nations under one…"
"Yes, that project" Suki said more pointed than she would have liked, as it hurt her remembering where that idea popped up.
The moment they both talked for the first time about marriage and family, before going to the final fight on the airships. Sokka felt his own heart ache.
"It would be like a Republic…" He brainstormed "The Kyoshi warriors are a heavenly gift"
"I am sorry?"
"You are coming with us right? You are part of Team Avatar" Sokka clarified, squeezing her hand.
"If we are over, it won't be the best thing being around to hear of all the things you are doing with other girls…" She thought.
"No, I will stay on the fire nation protecting Zuko"
A sting in his heart. Zuko.
"He is invited too" He said motionless "You can come…"
"I don't want to. I would rather be at the fire nation…"
"Away from me" He completed the sentence, closing his eyes to prevent crying in front of her. "It's fine"
"Not everything is about you Sokka" Suki said annoyed, even if there was some truth to his words.
"Alright. Well…."
They both stood in front of each other, the last strand of the love they showed in their hands, as the grip didn't loose it's strength. He was the one who thought about it more, he was the one to make the first move, slowly sliding away.
She let him, her arm extended as their eyes intensely showed all of their emotions.
Again, they were on their own, with broken hearts and confused minds. A new project on the horizon so Sokka couldn't focus on her, the duty and loyalty sworn to her friend so Suki wouldn't have time to dwell on the failed relationship.
Not again at least.
"I will sleep with Aang, don't worry" Sokka said walking towards his necklace, putting it on. Suki's eyes followed until he left the room, closing the door in slow motion. She sat again on the bed, touching her lips.
The loneliness and waste of energy in ending the relationship took a toll, making her lay on her back and quickly sleep. She hoped she wouldn't wake up from it, feeling a void in her heart.
