Chapter 187 Hermione's Christmas Gift

Due to the newspaper, although Evan, Harry, and Hermione were still hospitalized, they were all very busy every day.

Especially Evan, he stayed awake almost every night until dawn.

In that atmosphere, the silent Christmas dawn arrived, the weather was cold, and in the room there were only three people, Evan, Harry, and Hermione.

On Christmas morning, Evan was awakened by Harry throwing a pillow at him.

"Merry Christmas!"

"Merry Christmas, Harry! Merry Christmas, Hermione!"

Evan sat up with sleepy eyes, squinting in the dim light towards the foot of his bed, where a large pile of packages had appeared.

Harry and Hermione were already opening their own gifts, and Evan noticed that the three of them received more gifts this year than they had in previous years.

"Weird, why are there so many gifts?" murmured Evan.

"Most of these gifts are sent by readers of The Hogwarts Magic, and many of them are just Christmas cards," explained Hermione.

Since the series of articles about Peter Pettigrew, Evan, Harry, and Hermione had become famous. Although the focus was on Sirius Black, people were amazed that three young wizards, aged twelve and thirteen, could capture an evil dark wizard.

Many of their peers began to admire them and wrote letters to them regularly.

In addition to young wizards in the UK, Evan noticed that many of those Christmas cards were from overseas. For example, the pink card in his hand came from a ten-year-old girl named Gabrielle Delacour from France.

Gabrielle wished Evan a Merry Christmas on the card, then expressed her admiration for his capture of Peter Pettigrew in a few words, and hoped for a response from him.

Looking at the cute pattern of the little angel on the Christmas card, Evan smiled, and as he was ready to see other Christmas cards, he heard Harry's annoyed voice.

"Look at this. The Dursleys gave me an old, worn-out sock. It's worse than last year's toothpick and the fifty-pence coin the year before. They must have thought I was a house-elf!" Harry threw the sock under the bed and opened a short note attached to the package.

It was written to ask if he could stay at Hogwarts during the summer holidays.

"Thank goodness, I have finally gotten rid of them this summer. Sirius said I can live with him, I don't know if he even has a house!" Harry rejoiced, put on a scarlet sweater, and continued, "This is a scarlet sweater that Mrs. Weasley sent. You two seem to have one too."

"I see, mine is maroon, but it doesn't have any letters on it." Hermione picked up a box, looked at it hesitantly for a moment, and gently set it aside. "This is Hagrid's mince pie. It smells very distinctive. It's a mix of cabbage and pig liver. I think it's best not to easily try it."

Evan also began to open his gifts, besides the Christmas card, the gift from Mrs. Weasley and Hagrid, his parents had ordered him a golden cauldron.

He had seen it in a shop on Diagon Alley before, and its price was staggering.

In Evan's eyes, this golden cauldron was purely an artistic collectible piece. No wizard would use it to contain potions.

Evan sighed and carefully closed the golden cauldron.

His parents had no knowledge of the magical world, and they used to look at wizards from the perspective of muggles, thinking the most expensive was the best.

Since Evan went to Hogwarts, they bought him too many things he didn't use. The most typical was the Nimbus 2001 broom they gave him last Christmas. Before Harry borrowed it, it was stored under Evan's bed and he had never taken it out.

When Evan returned home during the summer holidays, he explained a matter and they realized that wizards did not always fly in the air on a broom as in the stories.

And it seemed that their son had a serious fear of heights. Even with magic, it could not be cured.

In addition to the gifts from their parents, Harry presented him with a set of miniature Quidditch toys, inside a huge crystal ball containing a replica of the Quidditch field. Every time it was touched with a wand, the model flew automatically to play.

Ron gave him a book, Ginny a precious feather, Colin a set of wizard chess, Luna a very valuable photo rumored to be evidence of the existence of the Crumple-Horned Snorkack, Fred and George's gifts were jokes they had developed. The other young wizards gave him all kinds of treats and food, most of which were ordered in Hogsmeade.

To Evan's surprise, Cho Chang also gave him a gift. It was a dark blue scarf, and the craftsmanship was very fine. It must have been a product from Madam Malkin's shop.

"Evan, thank you for sending me the watch," said Hermione as she looked at the scarf in Evan's hand, and the charming smile on her face gradually solidified. She hesitated and said, "This scarf is..."

Hermione squinted her eyes, and Evan knew that meant she was thinking.

"It's a gift for me from Cho," Evan explained.

"Well, I didn't know... I thought my gift was..."

Evan looked puzzled at Hermione, who was blushing, not knowing what she was talking about. Following her gaze, he saw the last package under his bed.

This must be Hermione's gift, which was bulky inside.

Under Hermione's gaze, Evan unwrapped the package. And it turned out to be a scarf.

On the red-yellow scarf, the Gryffindor lion was woven, but it looked slightly distorted. The craftsmanship was much poorer than the scarf Cho had sent. It was highly likely that Hermione had sewn it herself.

Evan realized why Hermione had that expression.

His Christmas gift was exactly the same as Cho's, a scarf.

Evan remembered that Hermione had told him in Hogsmeade just a few days earlier that she was ready to send him her Christmas gift after so much effort, and that she believed he would be pleased.

No one would have thought that his gift would be a scarf.

This scarf must have been made by Hermione herself, he didn't know how long she had been sewing it, but it was definitely not easy.

Until today, he had no idea. No one knew that Hermione was secretly making a scarf. She must have been secretly sewing it at night after everyone had gone to sleep in the dormitory.

Excited about a slightly coarse scarf, Evan's heart was filled with emotion.

In terms of value, this scarf was not very expensive; in terms of finesse, it was much worse than Cho's, but the stitch and thread were full of the girl's heart.

Evan looked up and gazed at Hermione, who was blushing.

He knew she must be very nervous at that moment, as the gift she had carefully prepared for so long was also sent to him by someone else. If she were in her shoes, she would be very frustrated.

"I didn't know, Evan," Hermione said, blushing. "I didn't expect Cho Chang to send you a scarf. If I had known earlier..."

"Thank you, Hermione," Evan interrupted and whispered, "I really like this scarf a lot, it's the best Christmas gift I've received."
