Chapter 67 Chapter 67

In the room, Evan opened a thick book of magic, turning to the page on Animagi, detailing each step to follow.

After double-checking everything, he took a deep breath and ingested the potion.

It was akin to a sip of strong liquor, a dark golden syrup flowed down his throat, a potent mana began to emanate from his body, growing stronger by the moment.

The mana surged like a rushing river, continually springing from his being.

Inhaling deeply, he could sense his body undergoing a transformation.

His form was brimming with restless mana, surging uncontrollably from him. It gave Evan the impression that he was capable of anything.

However, the feeling was fleeting; he perceived that his body had reached its limit, the mana within him felt exceedingly uncomfortable. He needed to channel this mana into something, fearing it could lead to his demise otherwise.

"Animagus!" Evan uttered as he consumed another potion.

His body began to shift as soon as the words left his lips.

Instantly, a powerful mana filled the room, under its impact, everything in the chamber scattered.

Even objects outside the room felt the effects of the mana. Dobby quietly cracked the door open, too frightened to enter, his hands tightly gripping the handle, two enormous eyes peering in and observing Evan.

In the room's center, Evan's muscles creaked. It was as if he were a shapeless mass, his entire body morphing.

Upon using the Polyjuice Potion last year, Evan had felt as though his skin, blood, and bones were melting.

Yet, the sensation was far more intense compared to the Polyjuice Potion; the excruciating pain nearly made him black out. Evan bit his lip, telling himself, "I must persevere, if I faint now, I fail, and all that I've done will have been in vain."

He focused and endeavored to control the spell.

With determination, his body shrunk, beginning to transform into an animal.

His bones contorted, black fur appeared on the surface of his skin, and a pair of large furry ears sprouted from his head.

After about twenty minutes, a new figure occupied Evan's bedroom.

The restless mana gradually subsided, the potion's effect fading away. Evan knew he had succeeded, shaking his head, he now possessed claws on his hands, and everything in the room appeared gargantuan to him.

Although unclear of the animal he had become, it was undoubtedly of small stature.

Evan recalled what the book said about Animagi: their transformations typically being confined to non-magical creatures, owing to the subtle yet crucial disparity between a wizard's mana and that of magical creatures; assuming a form like a phoenix, a dragon, and so forth could yield unpredictable consequences.

Furthermore, Animagi cannot shift into any random animal; the transformation hinges on the individual's nature and essence.

Evan's body was smaller, hence transforming into a small animal.

The crux lies in personality; being more cautious, he believed he had turned into a warier animal.

"A small, non-magical creature with a cautious disposition... Gods, am I a mouse like Peter Pettigrew?" Evan's heart sank, that would be the worst outcome.

His utmost desire was to morph into a bird, the most convenient choice, but given his intense fear of heights, this possibility seemed unlikely. However, as long as he wasn't a mouse, any other animal would suffice. Coming from China before the crossing, he mused he could transform into a panda!

However, according to its size, a panda was not possible. "Perhaps..."

When Evan was pondering, the house elf entered the room trembling, gazing at Evan with horror and caution.

"Oh, my goodness, the master has turned into a black cat!"

"What? Have I turned into a black cat?" Evan sighed in relief knowing he hadn't become a rat.

Becoming a black cat was an unexpected outcome.

In the world of magic, it has been a symbol of warding off evil spirits since ancient times and carries great significance. It is widely believed that black cats have a strong magical influence. Evan had reviewed all Animagus records in the last millennium, but no wizard or mage had transformed into a black cat.

"Mr. Evan Masson has lost control of his magic," said Dobby. "Stupid, useless, you could have done something!" Dobby shouted loudly while pulling his ears.

"Stop, Dobby, my situation is splendid, you don't have to do anything, don't punish yourself," Evan hurriedly said, but no words came out, just a meow.

"Dobby knows, Mr. Evan Masson must go to St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. Dobby must save Evan Masson!"

Upon hearing that Dobby wanted to save him, it reminded him of last year when he wanted to save Harry, not wanting to die at the hands of a house elf.

He couldn't revert to his original form for now, but he saw that the other was not going to wait for the change to occur naturally.

Evan leaped to the side to dodge Dobby.

'Damn, what can a black cat do besides being adorable?' thought Evan.

With cat-like reflexes, Evan was very agile, dodging Dobby several times, but he saw the other was about to use magic; he knew that if Dobby did, he wouldn't be able to escape.

Suddenly, Evan jumped onto the balcony through the open window.

This feeling was marvelous; Evan was like a true cat, then softly leaped onto the first-floor window sill, completely unhurt.

Seeing the other following him, Evan didn't pause for a moment, he ran and after turning a corner, he hid behind a garbage bin.

After a few seconds, he saw a house elf with a teary eye running down the street.
