The man with a medium height, seemingly always unassuming face and unflinching demeanor known only to the people as "Akira Satou" lived a very interesting life. From being taken in by an undercover organization known as "The Fable" from when he was a kid taking him in and brutally training him to be a deadly and ruthless assassin for years until he completed it. Over the years, all he did was take contracts from various crime bosses and people who wanted to hire the Fable agent's services and take out the targets by any means necessary as a gun-for-hire. As he worked with the "Fable" organization, he was surprised that the boss that he was working for at one of his jobs gave him the order to take a one-year vacation to live the civilian life in Osaka under the condition that he does NOT kill anyone otherwise, the infamous assassin would be killed as a consequence.
So far, living life as a civilian might be the hardest thing "The Fable" agent has ever done. While he hasn't broken his condition of not killing, he did hurt some people. Granted, they were the aggressors and had it coming but it still worried his "sister" Youko that he might break that one rule when he engaged in combat with various hooligans who were stupid enough to pick a fight with a master assassin.
Also, it gave him time to explore other aspects of life outside of assassinating people like watching commercials and shows that showed a comedian by the Jackal Fujiko, which the Fable agent was a fan of and was the only time he dropped his stoic demeanor as well as get a pet and applying for a job and other things that civilians do in their day-to-day lives.
Speaking of Akira was currently walking through the streets of Osaka as he was going to his new job.
He was just minding his own business before his phone began to ring. The hitman took it out of his pocket and saw the caller ID was one of his allies in Osaka and chief of the Maguro clan by the name of Hiroshi Hamada.
"Hello?" Said the assassin as he answered the call.
"Akira, your boss called me." Hiroshi told him. "Someone has landed in Osaka."
"Anyone important?" The lover of the comedian named Jackal Fujioka asked.
"From the looks of the information he sent me, it is someone by the name of Loid Forger." The Maguro chief said.
"Loid Forger, huh?" The Fable gunman said as he then thought to himself. "Why was a spy of WISE here?"
The Fable Organization and the Westalian Intelligence Service's Eastern Division (or WISE for short) have known about each other for a while in their world of guns and stealth operations and have crossed paths a few times. Fable's operations of assassinating targets have often got in the way of WISE's mission to maintain peace between Ostania and Westalis (granted that's a bit hypocritical considering the number of dead bodies of power-hungry crime lords, gang leaders tearing up the streets of Ostania and drug smugglers looking to set up a base in the Ostanian capital city of Berlint that peacekeeping organization had on their hands but still). On the Fable agency's end, WISE's agents at times had been preventing them from killing certain targets and took them away to be interrogated by their superiors for certain information and they were killed off by them later on.
The Fable and Twilight were among their respective organization's best agents and have only heard of each other. just who they were working for and that was it.
Today was the day of the two would at last meet face to face.
"What has boss told you?" said the hitman.
"Well, it said that Loid, and his family his wife Yor and his daughter Anya are here on vacation." the man on the other line said. "Could be a cover story of some kind."
"Could be." The assassin said as he's dealt with plenty of people with fake identities as the killer for hire was using his own fake identity to live here in Osaka. "You and boss want me to see what he is up to."
"Well, not right at the moment we still don't know why he's here so it's best you avoid him and leave the information gathering to us. After all, you don't want to cause a scene and blow your cover." The chief said. "But be careful Akira. For all we know, he could be a spy sent to Osaka to kill you. Only engage with him if you no other option to."
"I'll be careful." The Fable agent said. "He's going to be lucky that I can't kill him right now."
The chief on the other end snorted a little before responding. "Yeah. Very lucky."
"Thank you, I'll be on the lookout." Akira said as he hung up.
He continued on with his day like nothing was going on as he thought to himself. "Could this Loid Forger be this "Twilight" that I have heard so much about? Hopefully, it's not a red herring. In case, I need to make sure his family isn't harmed despite they probably know of his occupation."
At the Osaka airport known as Kansai International Airport, a man with slick blond hair and was dressed professionally in a gray suit and pants as he was accompanied by a beautiful woman with long black hair and was dressed in a long-sleeved white shirt with a sleeveless green vest, a knee-length green office skirt, and black heels and a little girl with pink hair and dressed in a black academy dress with white socks and black shoes and three were walking through the airport after landing in the city.
The mother Yor Forger let out a big yawn as she began to stretch. "Finally, we're her! That 4-hour flight from Berlint was so uneventful."
"I don't think I ever slept that long." The young daughter, Anya said as she too stretched to get the circulation of blood flowing after sitting for hours in a passenger seat.
The man named Loid also stretched as he agreed with his family's opinions as he took a few minutes to stretch beforehand prior to getting off the plane.
"Now then, we just need a guide, and we can officially start our vacation." The spy addressed before he thought to himself. "And I can get started on my own mission of assassinating the Fable agent in this area."
Anya, reading her father's mind but chose not to say anything about it as she knew that would blow his cover as a WISE agent as she just shouted. "Yes, vacation time!"
"Not yet, Anya. We need to get a guide first. Without one, we're going to get lost here." Yor said to her daughter calming her down as she knew how excitable she was whenever the family went on vacation in and out of Berlint but couldn't help but get all excited herself as it's been a while seen she left the city herself.
After a few minutes, Loid and the Forger family found a pamphlet that showcased various sites of Osaka.
"Where should we go to settle down for the duration of our vacation?" Loid asked the two.
"Hmm, I think we should settle down in an apartment." Yor said as the family of three began to gather their suitcases from the conveyer belt.
"We should go the Festival Hall first once we get our stuff to the hotel!" Anya began as she took a look a pamphlet herself. "That place has tons of concerts there for us to enjoy there."
"Great idea Anya." Yor said to her daughter as she looked towards Loid. "What do you think dear?"
Loid began to think of the idea, and it seemed perfect. If Anya and Yor were distracted by the various things at that the Hall Festival, the undercover agent can slip away unnoticed and get his mission over and done with. All he needed to do now was fight the right opportunity to do so and Anya provided the perfect one for him.
The undercover spy smiled and spoke. "I think it's perfect for us. When have we last been to a concert."
"Yay!" cheered Anya as she took a crate that housed their family's pet which was a large dog named Bond who was barking excitedly as he saw Anya and the little girl began to run towards the exit of the airport excitedly. "Vacation time!"
"Anya, don't run off!" Yor called out to her daughter as she and Loid quickly chased after their overly excited daughter.
After settling into their hotel and putting their suitcases where they wanted to go, the Forger family took a 30-minute drive to the Festival Hall. The place was packed as people were lining up to be entertained.
"Concert! Concert! Concert!" Anya repeated said excitedly.
"Let's stay together okay, Anya." The secretive assassin said as she held the child's hand. "I don't want to end up losing you in such a large crowd."
Loid just looked around seeing if his target was here. He had picture of the guy thanks to WISE's intelligence gathering of him prior to flight over to Osaka, but it was difficult to spot due to the fact that there were so many different people around and he didn't want to cause a disturbance especially with his family present and they might accidently end up getting hurt in the crossfire.
"I need to search these crowds and find him." Loid said to himself before an idea came to his mind as he turned to Yor. "Hey Yor, why don't you and Anya and Bond explore the concerts by yourselves, I have to get something that will take some time to get. I'll be back as soon as I can."
"Sure, thing Loid." Yor said, not really thinking much of it as it gave her time to spend with Anya and Bond without Loid there. "Come on you two."
Anya read her dad's mind and thought to herself. "Papas after a dangerous man that's probably here. I don't need to worry as it's just one man."
Bond however was thinking differently but couldn't say anything without causing a scene. The dog just hope that his latest precognitive vision didn't come to pass without his assistance.
Loid walked away as the Yor led Anya and Bond through the facility as a day of fun was ready for the family.
Little did the secret agent realize, his target was a lot closer than he thought.
And soon, a fight was inevitable to occur.
A few minutes before the Forger family arrived, Akira entered the Festival Hall as he was looking for some time to kill and figured that his favorite comedian Jackal was premiering at one of them. Even if he wasn't, the Fable would be a little disappointed but at least he was able to get some time to himself before he went home. Hopefully, he didn't have to come into contact with Twilight.
Even if he did, it was best that they fight somewhere privately as to not blow their respective covers or in the case of Akira, break his one year no-kill rule.
Over the next few minutes, the dangerous assassin turned civilian was walking through the building to map out the facility so that in case something happened he would make a quick escape.
Looking to his left, he saw a sign that said: "Jackal: One Day Stand-Up Performance Here!"
On the outside, the famous assassin said nothing, but on the inside, he was squealing like a little kid.
There were a few people in line, so he had to wait. Waiting was something that he can do.
Little did he realize someone was approaching from behind him as his ears picked up the sound of footsteps hitting the marble floor.
Not wanting to cause a scene, Akira calmly turned around and saw that it was the one and only Twilight himself. "Hello. Excited to see Jackal?"
"Excited wouldn't be the word I'd use." Akira said stoically.
Loid thought to himself as he noticed the man's stoic nature. "Yes, this is my target; I need to get him away from here."
The Fable agent thought to himself. "This must be the Twilight agent that WISE has, I have to get him away from here quick."
Looking at the line, the two saw that there were a few more people in line (maybe 5 to 9 more people) as a ticket man was checking the tickets and confirming their entry of the Jackal fans.
Just then, The Forger family man spoke. "Say, it might take some time until we get into this concert. Why don't we take a walk to pass some time?"
"Of course, I got time." The Fable said as he thought to himself. "Maybe get some answers from you before we have to fight."
The two men walked away from the entrance of the concert as they walked to a more private location.
A few minutes of walking around, the two men stopped at a far alleyway away from any populated areas so that the two could talk.
"This seems far enough." The Fable agent said as he stopped as he then turned around to face his opponent. "Why did you come to Osaka?"
Loid quickly noticed the man's hostility and got into a defensive position. "I'm just here on vacation."
"I find that hard to believe." Akira said as he clenched his fist. "Now I suggest you tell me your real reason as to why you're here. I won't ask again."
Knowing that trying to talk to him now wasn't going to work, Loid pulled his gun out before saying. "My organization gave me the mission to kill you."
The pistol went off but instead of hitting its intended target, the fable dodged the bullet as it went through a concrete wall behind him.
"So, I was right." The hitman thought to himself before saying. "So, you're from the WISE agency right. You're the ace spy codenamed Twilight, correct?"
Loid's eyes widened in shock as the assassin had all that information on him before gained a determined look as he fired another shot from his pistol. He couldn't let this guy blow his cover after everything he's been through to get to this point especially if his family finds out then he would have to restart from scratch.
The assassin quickly took out a knife and deflect the bullet as it made contact with a concrete wall to his right. A brief pause occurred as the two glared at each other.
"He's good, WISE's intel wasn't to off base." Twilight thought to himself as he began to fire three more shots as he charged at him. "But still, I need to be careful, if I slip up, I'll be dead in seconds if this guy is as deadly in hand-to-hand combat if his reputation as an assassin is anything to go by. So, I need to be on my guard in case this comes down to physical skill."
Deflecting the bullets again, the Fable gun-for-hire charged at the WISE agent as he too thought to himself. "That pistol is Ballester-Molina, 7 rounds in total. He fired 4 bullets, and I deflected four shots, so he has three shots left so I need to get in close and incapacitate him quickly."
Feeling that the hitman would continue to deflect the bullets if he fired the last three shots. Twilight quickly put his pistol back into his pocket as he got into a defensive stance as the Fable agent was killer-for-hire pulled his left fist back before he launched the first blow to Loid's face only for the WISE spy to dodge it as he attempted to punch his opponent in the stomach, only for the Jackal fan to grab his fist with the other hand and stop the punch. Akira attempted to go for one of the pressure points on the spy's neck to try and incapacitate him and get this fight over with, only for Loid to quickly grab a hold of his arm and hold it there.
"Why did your organization send you after me?" The Fable asked.
"They see you and the Fable organization as a threat to our mission of peace in Ostania. This is nothing personal, it's just business." Loid admitted.
The hitman reared his head back before he slammed it into the agent's face, breaking his nose and causing it to bleed as he stumbled back. "I suggest you tell your superiors that they shouldn't have sent you here because I haven't done anything recently that has earned this retaliation." He then put his fists down before continuing. "So, I suggest you leave me alone so that I can continue on with my day."
"I'm sorry Fable but I can't do that. Regardless of your previous actions, you're still a threat, WISE wants me to take you out so that you and your organization doesn't declare war on our organization." Loid said as he wiped the blood away from his nose before he put his fists up and charged at the assassin once more.
As the two engaged in hand-to-hand combat now, it was becoming a stalemate as Loid blocked and dodged the Fable agent's seemingly lethal blows as Akira was blocking and countering the WISE agent's attacks as well. Every punch was blocked and deflected, every kick was countered by another kick or dodged.
Another thing to take into account is their attack patterns, Loid was offensive only going defensive when he needed to while Akira was defensive only going offensive when he needed to.
As the two were continuing to engage in a physical altercation, Loid had begun to notice something.
"Wait a minute." Loid thought to himself as he leaned backwards to avoid Akira's roundhouse kick before he blocked an oncoming punch to his ribs. "His power in his attacks, he seems to not be going all in. Why is that?"
"He certainly has speed, and his technique is clearly unmatched by anyone in his field." The Fable hitman thought as he manages to get an elbow to the secret agent's side causing Loid to let out a grunt of pain before he fought through it and threw a punch to the hitman's face only for hit to be caught. "But they're both lacking a bit."
"I just need an opening and then I got him." The WISE spy and the Fable thought at the same time.
Loid jumped back causing Akira to give chase, but this was something the WISE agent was hoping for. He had a chance and took it as he quickly took his pistol back out and shot the hitman at point-blank range.
That would've been the end for Akira if only the Fable was just a few seconds slower, however in a split-second decision he quickly ducked under the bullet and kicked the gun out of the spy's hand as he got in close.
"Dammit, I overanalyzed him! I'm not going down just yet!" The fake family man thought to himself as he attempted to slam his fists into opponent's head. "For Yor and Anya! For the completion of Operation Stix!"
Japan's ace assassin however used the opening his opponent made as he managed to jab two of his fingers into the spy's neck, arms, chest and legs in quick succession.
Feeling his nerves shot and the feeling in his struck body parts stop functioning almost instantly, Loid collapsed onto the ground face-first.
"Well, this is it for me." The Forger family man thought to himself before thoughts then shifted to the family he had grown to love and care about. "Anya, Bond, Yor. I'm sorry, it looks like this is the end for me. I love you guys."
He waited for the Fable to finish him off via caving his skull in, taking his own pistol and shooting him with it, or use a pressure point attack to stop his heartbeat.
He waited...
And waited...
And waited some more.
However, much to his surprise, the blow never came.
Despite the incapacitated state of his body, the spy of WISE managed to lift his head up to look at his adversary, who was on a knee looking down at him with a stoic expression on his face.
"I'm not going to kill you, Twilight." The Japanese assassin simply said.
"He's not going to kill me?" The shocked spy thought to himself. Was the Fable serious or was he just softening him and having a last conversation with him before he put him six feet under? Regardless, he asked the victor of this fight. "Why not?"
"It's because we're both on a mission. Right now, I'm on my own mission." He began as he stood up. "I'm not going to kill a family man and a visitor here. So, welcome to Osaka."
"You're on a mission too?" Loid asked as he figured that he was on an assassination job. "What's that mission?"
"All you need to know is that while I'm staying here, I'm forbidden from killing anyone as I must live the life a civilian. I'm not going to reveal who you are as that is your business." The Fable revealed. "So, consider yourself very lucky because if it wasn't for that no-kill rule, you would be dead right now." He then stood straight up. "I'm going to leave now and go back to the Festival Hall to see Jackal, you should get back to your family once your body loosens up and for the rest of your vacation, you're going to leave me in peace otherwise, the next we meet I'm going to put you in the hospital. Tell your superiors this and make sure they don't send any more of their agents after me or there's going to be a problem."
With that, the non-lethal assassin walked out of the alleyway as his warning rang in Loid's mind.
"Well at least I don't have to worry about him revealing my identity." The spy thought to himself as he felt his pressure points loosen up as he began to slowly get back up. "As long as I avoid and pick a fight with him, I can enjoy this vacation."
Twilight sighed by before he picked his pistol up and put it back into his pocket before he picked his phone out and called his boss. "Hey boss. it's Twilight."
"Hello Twilight, how's the mission going?" Loid's boss asked professionally.
"I failed." Loid couldn't believe he was doing this, but his boss needed to know. "Akira is not a threat."
"Well, I'm glad you're alive at least." His boss admitted. "It would be a shame if WISE lost one of its best agents and the Forger family lost their patriarch."
"Yeah." Loid said as a small smile appeared on his face. "Thankfully, he was merciful. As long as I don't attack him while me and my family are here, I might be able to return to Ostania. I think it's best we don't send any more agents after him considering he was able to best me."
"If you say so, Twilight." His boss said. "Enjoy your vacation."
The call ended as the WISE agent walked out of the alley and back to where his family was.
This has been quite the day for the secret agent of WISE and family man of the Forger household.
Back at the Festival Hall, the beautiful assassin, the young telepath and the precognitive of the Forger family were enjoying a jazz concert as a band was playing slow calming jazz music as the sound echoed throughout the large room.
Loid made it back to the Festival Hall before he cleaned himself up before he spotted his family and made his way of to them.
"Loid, you made it!" Yor said to her husband. "I was beginning to get worried."
"Yay, Papa's here!" Anya said as she hugged her father's leg as she was happy to see him.
Smiling, the patriarch ruffled his daughter's hair as he was happy to see her and Yor too.
After nearly getting killed by one of Japan's best professional killer's, it made Twilight appreciate what he nearly left behind.
His mission known as Operation Strix.
His dream of a better world.
But most important of all, he nearly left his family behind.
Right now, he was thankful that the Fable spared him when he decided too.
Speaking of the assassin, he was currently at the Jackal stand-up routine that was currently there.
The famous comedian was probably the only person on the face of the planet that would make the normally emotionless man actually smile and laugh.
All in all, it was quite the day for the non-lethal assassin who was struggling to live the life of a civilian.
Hopefully after all that happened, the two aces in their respective fields wouldn't come to blows again for the rest of the spy's vacation here in Osaka.
If the Ostanian organization WISE was smart enough to heed his warning that is.
