So, I was going back and forth about what to write as 500th fic and I wanted to do a proper Doctor Who fic, but as for the theme I picked, oof, this will be painful. Takes place before The Snowman, since I despise that episode with passion and I don't think I need to explain why.
Disclaimer: I do not own Doctor Who.
Amy Williams, previously Pond, was going over the manuscript from River, prepared to publish it to help the Doctor and her and River later, when her husband Rory kissed her on her cheek and looked outside the window and saw a familiar man with brown floppy hair wearing a bow tie and a tweed jacket across the street.
"Amy! You need to see this!" Rory called.
Amy shot up from her chair and walked over to the window as she widened her eyes. "Is that…"
"What is he doing here?" Rory wondered.
"No, no, no, he wouldn't come to pick us up. He knows he can't." Amy said, when they saw the saddened look in the Doctor's eyes that were surely getting wet as he gave them a bittersweet smile, as if he was happy for them.
"I don't think he came here to pick us up." Rory noted, when the Doctor didn't even move from the spot he was standing at, when they saw him move his mouth, but couldn't make out the words, even though they had a feeling they knew what he was saying.
"Why does it look like he's saying 'goodbye'?" Amy asked with a lump in her throat.
"Because he is." Rory realized.
The Doctor nodded one more time and waved at them, smiling, despite the tears flowing down his cheeks.
Amy and Rory were about to rush out and hug him, unwilling to let him go, but before they could as much as move away from the window, a carriage passed by in front of the Doctor and as they got a clear sight on the street again, the Doctor vanished from the spot where he had been a moment ago.
Amy and Rory stared, not even registering the tears rolling down their cheeks, staring at the spot the Doctor had been a moment ago as they let out heavy breaths.
"Raggedy Man… goodbye." Amy said, a lump in the throat at saying the words again.
What infuriates me is how the show handled the Doctor's grief (or lack thereof) from losing the Ponds because of Clara *groans*
I refuse to believe the Doctor wouldn't at least give himself and the Ponds some closure the same way he did with Jack, Martha, Mickey, Rose (*clenches fists and rolls eyes*) and other companions as Tenth Doctor (*rolls eyes again*), but I'm not sure if he would directly engage the Ponds if it meant screwing with time at that point, but sooner or later he would have to acknowledge and face the fact that he needs to let them go, even if it isn't easy for someone like the Doctor. Sorry if the Doctor or the Ponds were OOC, but to be fair, I have watched the 2005 show just once recently, but I plan to watch it again sometime as I may have some plot bunnies for the show as well.
So, what do you guys think?
Please review and let me know if you have enjoyed this one-shot.
