Next door, Hyacinth Bucket was beginning to panic, for over a week she hadn't been able to get in touch with her sister Violet. She knew that her and Bruce had been arguing worse than ever. Which was why it was so important to make her see how foolish it would be to give up her social power and status. She and Richard had been going through a bad patch recently due to Sheridan inviting Richard and Rose to meet his boyfriend. Whilst the lady of the house still wasn't talking to her youngest sister and her son, she had forgiven Richard. She didn't want to risk wider society finding out her life was less than ideal.
She eventually admitted defeat and rang Daisy to see if she knew where Violet was. Hyacinth was horrified to hear Onslow answer the phone.
"Daisy's upstairs tending to your father, he tripped and fell down the stairs, he's cut his leg but he seems okay. Daisy has it under control, she's bandaged him up. No there's no need for you to visit and no I'm not wearing a shirt." Onslow could be heard saying on the other end of the line.
Panicking Hyacinth asked her brother-in-law, "Can you find out if Daisy knows of Violet's whereabouts please Onslow? I can't get hold of her."
"She's in Ibiza, living it up with your Rose. Daisy's got the hump because I wouldn't let her go with 'em. It's a good job she stayed what with your accident prone father." He explained.
"But why should Violet have wanted to take Rose with her?"
"She took pity on your Rose because she's been miserable ever since that Emmet who lives next door to you gave her her marching orders."
"What?! You mean Rose and Mr Hawksworth were an item?!" Hyacinth shrieked.
"Not an item as such, I think it was just sex every now and again but he put a stop to it as he is in love with a woman he works with." Onslow felt bad about dropping Rose in it but this was an opportunity to wind Hyacinth up which was too good to miss.
"Tha-thank you Onslow," She stuttered. "When will they be back?"
"Couple of days I think. Though I get the impression your Violet will be laying low here as Bruce will be served divorce papers any day."
Horrified, Hyacinth slammed the phone down and fainted.
His hand trembling, Emmet Hawksworth attempted to dial Rose's number. When he finally got through, he was disappointed to learn from Onslow that Rose was abroad. He was happy to hear she would be home in a few days but not best pleased to find out that Onslow had accidentally spilled the beans to Hyacinth about him and Rose. Still what did it matter he hated Hyacinth and maybe this would cause her to be so appalled that she would stop singing at him.
Two days later a tanned Rose and Violet returned to Onslow and Daisy's.
"Has much happened while we've been away?" Rose asked, plonking her oversized case on the settee.
"Bruce and Hyacinth rang looking for you Violet. Your father had a fall and hurt his leg but he's fine maybe slightly battier than usual. Emmet called for you Rose. Oh and your Hyacinth knows about what went on between you and 'im." Onslow replied.
Rose and Violet went upstairs to say hello to Daisy and Daddy as they did the phone rang. Once Rose knew it was Emmet she thundered down the stairs. Not even bothering to listen to Daisy tell her about Father's accident.
Emmet explained he wanted to talk to Rose, that he needed to explain how he felt. Rose's heart missed a beat. She had been longing for this moment. With encouragement from Violet they agreed that Rose would pick Emmet up tomorrow morning. She would get fully insured this time. And they would talk at Violet's cottage as they wouldn't be disturbed there.
