A few days later Rose had moved the majority of her belongings into the apartment. Daisy had agreed she could leave what she didn't have room for at their place. She'd also made Rose promise every now and again her and Emmet would stay the odd night with them.
The couple had started decorating the flat. Emmet vetoed bright pinks and purple walls, they opted for a tasteful light green and white colour scheme throughout.
"We cant put it off any longer, you know Emmet. We need to let your Liz and our Hyacinth know I've moved in."
Her gentleman friend sighed, "I know. We better do it tonight."
"I've a better idea, we will invite Liz, Matty, Richard and Hyacinth over for tea one night this week and tell 'em. I'm happy to cook."
Emmet spluttered on his coffee, "you cook?! I've seen those burnt offerings you used to feed your poor father."
"I've thought of that. I'll get something nice out of Marks and Spencer's put it in a dish and our Hyacinth will be none the wiser."
"Ha, it won't be enough to impress her ladyship." Emmet replied.
"I don't care, she's coming here and if she doesn't like what she's given she can lump it. Anyway neither of us have time to go to the lengths she goes to for a candlelight supper."
Emmet agreed and proceeded to phone his sister and invite her and Matty to dinner Friday night. Liz was delighted to accept the invitation.
Rose then rung Hyacinth and asked her and Richard to come to their tea on Friday at Emmet's. Begrudgingly Hyacinth accepted. She only really agreed as she had been desperate to see the flat Emmet was residing at.
That Friday afternoon Rose took an early leave and made her way through the hustle and bustle of the town centre.
She spun around when she heard someone wolf whistle at her, followed by a very familiar voice shouting, "hey gorgeous."
"Boris," she politely replied, she kept on walking trying to shake him off.
"A little birdy told me you've shacked up with a piano teacher." He probed as he kept up with her pace.
Rose stopped walking and turned to face him. "Yes that's right. His name's Emmet."
From they way her eyes lit up when she spoke his name, Boris knew it was serious. In all the years he and Rose and had been on again/ off again, she'd never looked at him like that.
"It's serious isn't it?"
"Well of course it's serious." She replied, sounding slightly agitated.
"Forgive me for asking but you have been engaged no end of times before, Rose."
"I'm not engaged, Boris."
"What, you mean the miserable sod hasn't asked you?" The man chuckled.
Frustration grew in Rose's heavily made up complexion. "He hasn't asked because like me he doesn't want to get married again."
"Fair enough, I just wondered where that left me and you."
"In the past. We had some good times Boris, I can't deny that but it's about time we stopped clinging on to the past and moved on."
"But we've got something special Rose, we go way back. I was your childhood sweetheart." He pleaded.
Rose sighed and shook her head. "I'm not sure we did have anything special. We kept things going because it's all we knew. It was familiar, safe even. I've never felt the way I do with Emmet before. I don't actually think I knew what love was before Emmet. That's special and I'm not going to throw it away."
Boris knew he had lost her. He took her by the hand and kissed the back of it. "Be happy Rose." He was being sincere. He always had loved Rose but he knew they were never enough for each other.
She smiled. "I will. You too Boris, you too." She watched as he turned around and walked away, his head down so she couldn't see the sadness in his eyes.
Rose then tottered up to Marks and Spencer and headed straight for the food hall. Scanning the asides, she found what she was looking for, she placed a large cottage pie in her basket.
"Getting ready for tonight?" Another familiar voice said from behind as Rose reached for the vegetables.
Rose spun round to find Emmet's sister stood behind her.
"You've caught me out I'm afraid, Liz. Don't tell our Hyacinth I'm cheating." She said gesturing to the items in her basket.
"I wouldn't call it cheating, very sensible when you've been at work all day. Don't worry I wont let on its shop bought. It's very good of Emmet and yourself to have us over." Liz had a feeling the couple had something to share with them. Which suited her as Liz was also bursting to tell Emmet her news.
"Well, we thought it might be a nice thing to do. All sit round together." Rose's train of thought was interrupted when her attention was caught by a woman walking down the opposite aisle.
Liz saw Rose's attention was suddenly taken elsewhere. "Rose are you alright?"
The blonde in the short skirt nodded. "Y'see that woman over there?" She gestured with her head. "She's the one who's been following me."
Liz turned to look at the brunette who was by the tinned produce. "But that's..." Liz tailed off. It all made sense now. She just never thought Caroline was that type of person, bitter, obsessive and resentful.
"It's Caroline I know. I only found out t'other day when we were in the pub. I had to stop Emmet doing something stupid." Explained Rose. "On the whole, she's left us alone since Emmet changed his job. 'Appen she's just bumped into us today."
Liz took another look at Caroline. "Shall I go and speak with her?"
"No, thanks but you are best leaving it Liz. I don't want any trouble. I've enough to worry about with cooking for our Hyacinth. Besides, I've just had to deal with one of my former lovers, I don't really fancy taking on one of Emmet's.
Elizabeth politely agreed to leave it and the two woman continued to do their shopping. Liz decided it would be best to stay with Rose just in case Caroline bumped into them. She was so worried, Liz even drove Rose back to Emmet's flat and made sure she got inside safely. While Liz knew Rose would most likely win a fight between her and Caroline, Elizabeth was now worried her brother's ex girlfriend could have a dangerous streak.
