Once Ruby's door had opened wide, Ruby's mother, Agatha, looked inside. She turned her head left and right before looking back down at Ruby. Ruby stared at her mother for a while. The mother and daughter didn't know what to say to each other. When Agatha stepped forward to Ruby, she cleared her throat.
"Ruby, is there anybody you were talking to?", asked Agatha.
Ruby stammered. She didn't know how to answer or what to say back to Agatha. She took a deep breath.
"There's no one, Mom. There's nobody here. I was talking to no one." ,she answered.
The mother and daughter were quiet. Agatha shrugged her shoulders.
"Alright then.",she said.
She shut the door on Ruby and walked down the stairs.
Ruby sighed in relief. She heard Jennifer pulling the blankets off from her on her bed and getting up. Ruby turned around and gulped once. She knew when she and Jennifer met face to face, whatever Jennifer was going to say would not be good.
