Chapter 6: Pool Party (part 1)

[In the morning, Emma turns off the running water in the tub. Sighing, she gets in, laying in the tub as a mermaid. Putting her arms on the edge, she leans her head back, seemingly depressed about her new life.]

"So, this means that they can't take showers anymore." Sam realizes. After hearing this, people nod along in understanding. "At least some people get it," Emma mutters.

Well, that explains the long times spent in the bathroom, Lisa thought, but then gets confused about her daughter's onscreen mood, but why does she look so down?

[Cleo attempts to clean her fish tank with gloves on her hands, holding a small net. Reaching in, the water spills into her glove. Realizing her mistake, she quickly takes her arms out, throws the gloves off, and grabs a towel to dry herself with.]

Cleo: "No, no, no, no, no, no, no." Transforming, she falls onto the bed.

"A mermaid having fish as a pet. That's ironic," laughs Will. "I've always loved salt-water fish, even before we changed," Cleo admits, admiring her beautiful fish.

Kim: "Cleo." Knocks. "Cleo! Cleo!" She turns the knob, but Cleo has it locked. "Dad says you have to hurry up if you want a lift to school."

Cleo: laying on the bed as a mermaid. "It's okay Kim. I'll walk."

"Well not like that you can't," Ash says, making Cleo smile.

[Grabbing her phone, she sends a message to Emma and Rikki.]

[Emma's phone beeps on the kitchen counter next to Lisa.]

Lisa: wiping her hands, she hears Emma's phone beep. "Em! Your phone." Opening the phone, she sees a picture of a clownfish. Confused, she closes the phone.

Shocked that her mother would invade her privacy, she faces her mother. "Mom!" "Yes, dear?" Lisa says, avoiding eye contact. "Seriously?" Emma sighs, turning back. "Lisa?" Neil gives her a questioning look. "I was just curious!" she quickly replies, just making sure that it wasn't a boy.

"What's with the fish?" Charlotte points. "It was a code to let them know that I accidentally transformed," Cleo explains, Charlotte nods. "Oh."

[At the beach, Rikki's phone beeps on the rocks by her towel, but she is nowhere in sight. Rikki is shown underwater in her mermaid form, swimming excitedly. A dolphin sees her and swims away, she looks at it and smiles at her surroundings.]

"Rikki, you want to explain to me why you're not getting ready for school?" Terry asks sternly. "Sorry, dad couldn't help it. I just loved it so much," she exclaims happily, grinning when she thinks of something else. "And besides, when the water calls, you got to listen to it." Bella smiles after hearing her, understanding that 'call'.

[Cleo walks out of her bathroom into her bedroom, moisturizer in hand. Emma is sitting on the bed while Rikki lies down, face up.]

Cleo: "This is a catastrophe of the highest order. Moisturizer is mainly water."

"Moisturizer?" Denman questions. "So, it's not just water, but water-related products?" "Yup," Max says; hearing this, some feeling bad for the girls, now realizing that they can't do most things that other girls can. Maybe it is not as exciting as they thought.

Rikki: "If dolphins can swim for miles, so can we."

"Are you even paying attention?" Zane asks. "Not one bit." The girls shake their heads in amusement, not surprised that she was not listening.

Interesting, Denman thought, still taking mental notes on their 'gift'.

"Can you?" Kim asks eagerly. "Well, we swim to Mako all the time, so I guess that's a yes," Emma chuckles at the look of excitement on Kim and her brother's face.

Cleo: "We can't moisturize ever again."

Rikki: "We could swim all the way to Fiji." Turning over, she looks at them. "Can you imagine that?"

"Wow," Will says. "Yup. We still need to try that by the way," Rikki points out to the other two, a small smile forming.

Cleo: "Our skin will be dry and wrinkly. We'll be geriatrics by the time we're 21." Rikki's smile fades at that comment.

"Oh, come on! So what? You can grow tails and have magical powers! Can't you realize how amazing that is?!" Kim yells, not understanding her sister's downside to the situation. Cleo sighs, trying to explain her reasoning. "It took a bit of time to get used to the idea, Kim. At the time, I was mostly focused on the negative side of things it brought."

Emma: "I missed training today. First time in 6 years."

Emma's parents sigh, missing her training days. She loved it so much.

Elliot feels bad, understanding that it did bring some problems for them, especially for Emma's future.

Cleo: sits down in her chair. "See? See how bad this is?" Rikki and Emma look at one another. "We have to tell somebody. Our parents, a doctor, the police."

The parents perk up, hearing this. She wanted to tell us. Hope rises for a second, before falling as they remember they did not find out until a few moments ago.

"At least someone thought that" Neil muttered, still upset by the shocking reveal. Hearing him, Emma looks down, feeling ashamed.

Rikki: "And end up a mermaid in a straightjacket with moisturized skin?" Cleo looks annoyed as Rikki shakes her head. "Forget it."

A few chuckles at the image description. "She has a point," Ash says.

Emma: gets up, walking over to Cleo. "Rikki's right, Cleo. We can't tell anyone."

"Gee never heard that before," Rikki laughs making Emma smile.

Cleo: "Not even mom?"

Bev looks over at her eldest daughter. She wanted to tell me.

Emma: shakes her head. "No. No parents."

Cleo: "But I tell mom everything."

Tears begin to form in Bev's eyes, on the verge of breaking. She puts a hand to her heart and looks over at Cleo. Looking back, Cleo cannot help but give her a sad smile.

Emma: "Well, not this time. It's too dangerous. People just won't understand. We could be locked up."

Denman and Harrison look down, guilt racking their minds, the memory of the trap door over the underwater entrance running through their heads. Zane looks at them, knowing exactly what they are thinking because he felt the same way. After all, it was my fault they got captured in the first place.

"Did you really think we would lock you up?" Terry asked, turning to this daughter. Rikki looks over at him confused, nodding. "No, we wouldn't. We won't." Rikki's face turns from confusion to shock, to a small smile; happy to hear him say that. "You won't?" she asks hopefully. Her father shakes his head once again, making her smile even more.

"Terry's right. We're family. No matter what, you will always be our daughters." Don says, looking at each of them, a smile on his face. Knowing that he means it, Cleo gets up from her seat with a big smile and goes to hug him. "Thanks, dad." Returning the hug, he replies. "Anytime sweetheart. I meant every word." "I know," Cleo says, voice cracking from the many emotions trying to flow out of her.

Lisa and Neil look at one another, beginning to realize that maybe the other parents were right; Emma is still their daughter, and always will be.

Cleo: shakes her head confused. "Why would we be locked up?"

Emma: "Because we're different. Because we can do things that other girls can't do. Because they're scared of us."

Understanding their reason for hiding it now, the others in the room worry for the girls, knowing that she was right. Emma's parents understood because they were scared. Were. But not anymore.

"It doesn't seem scary. Shocking for sure, but not scary," Annette says, seemingly chill with their new life.

"You're right though. Wish we could do that," Kim says as if she were daydreaming. Cleo looks over, shocked, still surprised that she loves the fact that mermaids exist.

Cleo: smiles. "Fine. I won't tell anyone. Except Lewis."

Cleo blushes while Lewis smiles, happy that she wanted to tell him first. "Really? You told him, but not us?" Don says feeling hurt. "I didn't have a choice but to tell him," Cleo told him, remembering how it turned out. "What do you mean?" Bev asked confused. "Just, keep watching," she sighs.

Rikki: "No, Cleo. Not Lewis, not anyone."

She could have told me. She could have told us. But they kept forcing it down on her, Bev thought, upset that her daughter wanted to tell her, but couldn't.

Cleo: rolls her eyes, nodding. "Ok, ok. Don't worry, I'm really good at keeping secrets." Smiling, she gets up and throws her moisturizer away. Rikki looks at Emma, rubbing her neck skeptically.

"No, you're not," Kim laughs. "Yes, I am," Cleo says defensively. "The diary," Kim sings, reminding her, causing Cleo to lower her head. Emma, Rikki, and Lewis laugh at the memory of that day, leaving the others clueless.

[Later at school, the bell rings. The girls are at their lockers while Miriam and Tiffany hand out invitations.]

Miriam: "Now it's party time people. No excuses. In honor of our very own surfing guy, the beautiful Byron, for winning his special prize."

"Did she acutally throw him a party?" asks Kim. "It was more for herself than for Byron," Zane states.

"Whose Byron?" asks Bella. Emma looks over and winks. "You'll see," making Bella even more confused.

Cleo: "What prize?"

Miriam: "Whatever it is they give out for surfing."

"Was she even there?" Will asks. "No, but I was," Emma proudly admits.

Emma: "The Coast Surf Classic. He won by a mile."

Miriam: "I was having a spray tan, but I'm sure he was amazing."

"Of course, she was," Kim says rolling her eyes.

[Rikki looks at her disgusted; Miriam notices her.]

Miriam: "Rikki, I'm sure I might have a blank. Um –."

"She had personal invites? Then why would she tell the whole school?" Ash asked, not understanding the snobby blonde. "Because she invited everyone that she liked, or at least tolerated. And as if I wanted to go, I can't stand her," Rikki says, disgusted like her onscreen self. Zane nods. Same here.

Rikki: "Sorry. I'll be flossing my teeth that night." Miriam and Tiffany awkwardly walk away.

The audience laughs at her excuse. Terry smiles, glad that she was not going to let it bother her.

Lewis: walks up to Cleo at her locker. "Hey, Cleo."

Cleo: "Oh, hi Lewis. Nothing much has been happening to me. Nothing much at all. Just the same old thing."

"That was the worst. Acting. Ever," Kim says. Cleo winces at her onscreen actions.

"Nothing?" Lewis told her, chuckling. "Well, what was I supposed to say?" "You could've at least acted normal," Charlotte says as if it were obvious. "That is normal for her, unfortunately," Rikki sighs, earning a slap to the arm from the brunette.

Lewis: "Cleo, uh, are you going to Miriam's party?"

"Is that a date?" Emma teases. Lewis turns red, embarrassed. "No, uh, I mean, uh, m-maybe?" Zane laughs loudly at the sight of Lewis trying to speak, irritating Cleo.

Charlotte looks at the screen, a little jealous.

Cleo: leans against her locker. "Of course I'm going."

"Why would you want to? Miriam is so annoying, even more than you," Kim scoffs. "I'll take that as a compliment," Cleo says. Don and Bev laugh to themselves at their two daughters interacting. Well, at least they're not arguing.

Miriam: walks back up. "Now, don't forget, girls. Bring your best bikinis. It's a pool party." Cleo looks shocked, a bit saddened at the news.

Lewis: "Right. Uh, well, seeing as you're going –."

Cleo: "I've changed my mind. I'm not going." Shaking her head, she looks down, and walks away, leaving Lewis stunned.

"Bummer, maybe next time mate" Zane pats him on the back, surprising Lewis that he actually called him 'mate'.

[After school, the girls walk in the grass near the beach.]

Cleo: walking backwards. "It's so uncool to miss one of Miriam's parties. She won't ask us ever again."

Rikki: "So, that's a plus."

"Thank you!" Kim and Zane yell. Cleo looks confused. "But Zane, you were there." "I had nothing better to do," he shrugs. Glancing at her, Cleo glares back at him, now remembering what he did at the party. Uh oh.

Cleo: walking normally again. "It's a pool party. I know it's dangerous, but maybe if I told Lewis about us, he could look out for us."

"Clearly not well enough," Denman mutters.

Rikki: "No, you did the right thing, Cleo. None of us are going."

Emma: stopping, the girls turn to her. "No, wait. I think we should go. For Byron, not for Miriam. Surfing's just like swimming. It takes a lot of hard work and training. He needs to know everyone's supporting him."

Emma's parents look up, surprised.

"Sounds like someone's got a crush." Bella teases. "No, I don't!" she quickly denies. Rikki and Cleo chuckle while Emma's parents smile, glad to know who her first crush is.

Elliot smirks, thinking of ways to tease her with this new info.

Rikki: smiling, she realizes something. "You like Byron, don't you?"

Emma: she scoffs, walking away with the other two following behind. "No way."

"Uh, yes way," Rikki says.

Rikki: "Well, you sound like an ad for breakfast cereal."

Chuckles are heard all around. "That's very specific," Ash says.

Emma: "Well, if we learn more about what's happening to us, we might be able to control it enough to go to the party."

Denman looks at them curiously. "Can you control it?" "No. That's something that can't be controlled. Once they touch water, the countdown automatically begins. Unless they dry it off quickly," Max answers. After a few seconds of being stunned, she finally speaks again. "Where did you get all this information?" Max smiles, sending a quick glance to Mrs. Chatham, who smiles back. "Oh, I have my ways."

Rikki: waves her hand out towards the beach. "What's to learn? We touch water, and ten seconds later, we grow tails."

Emma: "Maybe it's about developing some discipline. Exercising some control."

I wish it was, Mrs. Chatham sighs, thinking of her friends' times as mermaids, it would have made things so much easier.

Cleo: "That would be perfect. That's great. Control. Then we could go to the party. I'll text Lewis." Grabs her phone out of her bag and sends a message to him.

"Wouldn't you need to try it out?" asks Annette. Cleo sighs, "Yeah."

"That was fast," Will says, noticing how quickly she sent the message.

Rikki: points out. "You do realize you're going to have to swim to test this theory." Emma nods.

Cleo: looks at them. "What? No way. Forget it." Puts her phone up and walks away, leaving Emma and Rikki smiling, following her.

"Seriously Cleo?" Kim sighs, annoyed. Cleo begins to get aggravated by the constant negative comments about her not enjoying their new lifestyle.

[At a secluded part of the beach, Cleo sits down, head in her knees, the other two standing in front of her trying to convince her to test it out.]

Rikki: "Come on. It's not even deep here." Points out to the waves.

Cleo: shakes head. "No." They look at her, begging.

Rikki: "Please, Cleo?"

"You swam before," Charlotte indicates. "That was when I had legs!" Cleo says defensively. Charlotte shrugs. She has a point.

Cleo: "No. No!"

Emma: "Fine. Come on Rikki." They walk into the water.

"Well, at least you tried," Sam says. Cleo's parents worry, hoping that she will get over her fear one day.

Emma: "Control and discipline starts with the mind, so concentrate." Closes her eyes. "No tail, no tail –." Rikki looks at her weirdly before joining in.

"Almost sounds like a chant," Lisa says, shuttering.

Both: "No tail, no tail, no tail." After ten seconds, they turn into water, then as mermaids, falling into the water. "No tail."

Laughter echoes throughout the room. "Well, that didn't work," Lewis laughs.

[Cleo sighs at their failure, arms crossed. Emma looks stunned. Rikki flips over, trying to move her tail. Meanwhile, Lewis walks up behind Cleo with fishing gear. Emma and Rikki see him, and scramble to hide behind some rocks, peaking their heads up.]

"Uh-oh," Elliot says. "Is this how you found out?" Kim asks curiously, looking over to him. "Nope," he replies.

"How did you not notice them?" Bella asks. "Wasn't paying attention," Lewis shrugs.

Lewis: "Who leaked the information?" surprising Cleo. "This is my secret, highly classified fishing spot. Someone must have blabbed."

"Not anymore," Max mutters.

"Good at secrets, right Cleo?" Rikki teases, embarrassing Cleo.

Cleo: "Sorry."

Lewis: "It's fine. Hey, I got your message about going to the party."

"Cleo!" her family yells. "It was the old message!" she tells them annoyed, calming them down.

Cleo: shakes her head. "Oh. Yeah, that was an old message. I'm not going anymore. Too much homework."

"That's a lie," Ash scoffs.

Lewis: "Fine." Puts down the fishing gear and begins unbuttoning his shirt. "Well, I might just join you all for a swim then." The girls panic, thinking of a way to stop him.

"Oh no," Lewis says, realizing what the next scene is, eyes widening. "What's wrong?" Cleo looks at him worriedly. "Remember what happens next?" Thinking about it, she reacts the same way, turning back to the screen, nervous at the thought of how the crowd will react. Of how her dad will react.

Rikki: "We're naked Lewis." Emma nods along, going with the idea.

The crowd burst out laughing, tears forming in their eyes from laughing so hard. The parents are shocked at the excuse she came up with, especially her father. "Rikki!" Terry yells, surprised that she would even say that. Rikki, red with embarrassment, but laughing along with the rest, responds. "Sorry dad, but I had to say something to get him to leave." I wish I would have just shut up and left, Lewis panics.

Lewis: "Just a – quick dip, then?"

Covering his face with his hands, Lewis shrinks back into his chair, turning red immediately.

Gasps fill the room, soon ending with a roar of laughter. Charlotte clenching her jaw, jealousy taking over. Zane lies on the ground from laughing so hard. Everyone is in fits at the actions played onscreen. Well, mostly everyone that is.

Don is red as well, not from embarrassment though, but filled with rage. "Why would you say that?! And to MY DAUGHTER, and her friends!" he hollers, silencing the laughter, everyone wondering what he will do. "Oh boy. Someone's in trouble now," Kim says, actually worried for her sister's friend.

He pounces from his seat, his protective father role taking over. Fists ready to punch Lewis, when Kim, Bev, and surprisingly Sam, intervene, holding him back, confusing Bev as to why Sam would help. "Dad, no!" Cleo says, jumping from her seat, arms spread out, ready to defend her friend. "He was just joking. Right, Lewis?" Cleo looks behind her towards the cowering boy, hoping he will say the right answer for once. "Uh, yeah. I-it was a joke, Mr. Sertori," he stammers out quickly, trying to calm down his rapidly beating heart, "It won't happen again, I s-swear. No more joking around like that." Don looks at him for a minute, then he looks at his family holding him, then at Cleo, who gives him a pleading look. With the look she gives him, he finally calms down a little, trying to slow down his breathing. "Ok. Ok." Letting go of Don, they all slowly sit down, Don follows with a huff. Cleo looks at her father, giving him a grateful smile before turning back to the screen, him returning the smile.

Lewis looks at him, and Don gives the blonde a daring glare, pointing his fingers at his eyes and Lewis's as if saying 'I'm watching you.' Lewis looks back towards the screen and gulps, heartbeat racing again.

Emma's parents and Rikki's dad shake their heads, disappointed in Lewis. They did not like what he said either, but they weren't going to react like that. Well, I might, Terry thinks, looking back on it.

Emma: "Goodbye, Lewis." Cleo tries to keep from laughing.

Lewis: "The offer was there." He grabs his fishing gear and walks away, the girls smiling at their success.

"Denied!" Zane barks, but shuts up after seeing Don glare at him, still mad about the incident from earlier.

[They arrive at Emma's house, walking into the kitchen.]

Cleo: "We're never going to be invited anywhere cool ever again. And why? Because we've got tails." Grabs a glass cup and pours water into it.

"That's not the only reason," Kim claims. "What else?" Cleo asks. "Because you're not cool enough," she teases, mocking Miriam. Cleo rolls her eyes, playfully. I should have seen that coming.

Emma: opens the fridge, grabbing some juice. "My swimming career is over."

Emma's family feels awful, knowing how badly she wanted to swim competitively. "She worked so hard, and now it's ruined." "Mom, I can still swim, it's just," thinking of the right words, she looks at them with a smiling gleefully, "differently." Her parents smile back, thinking she might be right. "Well, guess we'll have to get used to you swimming 'differently' then."

Cleo: puts the glass down. "I just have one question. Why me? I didn't ask for any of this to happen." Using her hand, she makes a bubble of water float above the glass, guiding it into her mouth.

"Well, you certainly have gotten a little better at using your power," Denman says. Cleo shrugs, still uncomfortable with the marine biologist being there.

"Show off," Charlotte mutters, jealousy etched into her voice.

"Why weren't we at home?" Elliot asks. Neil and Lisa look at each other, trying to remember why. "Maybe grocery shopping?"

Emma: "You think you've got problems? I've been training to be a swimmer since I was six months old." Putting a stick into a glass of juice, she uses her power to freeze the juice.

"Woah," Elliot says, mind blown, an idea popping in his head. "Hey Em, can you make me one next time?" Emma laughs not surprised that he is more focused on an icy pop. "Sure, Elliot." Their parents smile, glad to see them interacting like this is a normal thing now.

Six months?! Will thinks, wide-eyed. Sophie has not even been training me for that long! He sighs in relief, kind of glad that his sister is not here right now for once.

"You guys are a bunch of hypocrites! I mean, look at you! You're complaining yet using your powers as if it were normal." Bella says, not believing how they are reacting to this. "How many times do I have to say it? It wasn't easy to deal with at first. It changed our lives forever. You try having a tail sprouting out of nowhere!" Cleo yells, getting fed up with everyone telling them it was not that hard and that it was so spectacular. "Oh I –," Bella yells back, getting up from her seat, but before she even finishes her sentence, she realizes what she was going to say. What am I doing?! I almost revealed myself! The girls look at her confused, the strange tingling feeling from earlier returning to them. "I-I, I wish I knew how it felt," she slowly explains, sitting back down in her chair, looking back at the screen, her anger replaced with fear. The girls look at one another shrugging, then look back as if it never happened. Mrs. Chatham sneaks a glance over to Bella, getting suspicious about how she was reacting to it. "Hmm."

Cleo: "Well say goodbye to that dream, because we're mer-freaks now." Emma pulls out the icy pop, licking it.

"That's one way of putting it," Ash chuckles. "You're not freaks girls, you're just, unique," Mrs. Chatham says, smiling at the bunch, glancing at Bella again.

Rikki: "You two are unbelievable. Look at yourselves." Looks over at Cleo. "You're drinking water from midair." Looks over to Emma, walking around the counter. "And Emma, you just made an instant icy pop. Anybody else would love to be able to do that."

"She isn't wrong," Kim says, still admiring it. "Thank you," Rikki says.

"My point exactly," Bella mumbles, her fear residing.

Rikki: "You've both got these amazing powers, and all you do is whinge, whinge, whinge. I don't even have a power. Do you hear me complaining?" Cleo shrugs. shakes her head. "No. well, I've had enough. I don't want to hang out with whingers." Shakes her head again and leaves.

Terry feels bad for his daughter, knowing that she feels left out.

"But you need to stick together, you would be much stronger than to protect one another," Max says worried about them; worried that they might make the same mistake as the last trio.

[Emma looks at Cleo stunned.]

Cleo: "I know how she feels. Sometimes I don't even want to hang around with me." Emma looks down at the icy pop in her hand.

"Same here," Charlotte mutters quietly, loud enough for Annette to hear though, who hits her lightly on the arm.

[Later at the Juicenet Café, Lewis and Cleo are at a table having a drink.]

Cleo: "Lewis, what do you think of Rikki?"

"Speak carefully, boy," Terry says, who did not like his earlier comment. Lewis shakes nervously.

Lewis: thinking about it, he looks forward. "You know those stonefish that kind of look like a rock? They could shoot enough poison to kill an entire football team in half a second. She kind of reminds me of one of those."

Laughter goes around, even Terry chuckles at that, looking at him. "Well, you aren't too wrong. She's a tough one eh?" causing Lewis to smile a little, getting over his nervousness.

Rikki cracks a smile. "Well, thanks, Lewis."

[Byron enters the café; everyone claps for him. Zane following behind, and Cleo gets up, walking over to Byron.]

"That's Byron," Emma points out, all the gushing happily at the sight of him with Bella and Charlotte blushing. The guys get jealous from their reactions, including Ash and Will, though not knowing exactly why.

Byron: smiling at everyone, the clapping quiets down. "Thanks guys. Relax."

Cleo: "Congratulations, Byron. What's your ranking now? You must be getting up there."

Zane: "Control yourself."

"Zane," Harrison warns, "after what happened last time, do you need to be punished more?" "Well, you might once the pool scene comes up," he mutters quietly. "What was that?" "Nothing."

Lewis: "Hey, Zane. You're dry, that must feel different."

Zane laughs sarcastically about the reminder, everyone joining along, the scene replaying in their heads.

Zane: walks over to Lewis, lowering his voice. "Look, Lewis. I don't know what happened with that fire hydrant, but if you so much as mention it again, I'll remove your head from your shoulders."

Harrison sighs, rubbing a hand through his hair, annoyed. "Really Zane?" "Sorry dad," he says shamefully. "And to you too Lewis." "Uh, thanks?" Lewis replies, unsure of what to say.

[Zane walks away, but Lewis gets up angrily, grabbing Zane's shoulder, the customers in the café noticing.]

Cleo: "Let it go, Lewis."

Byron: walks up to them. "She's right. It's not worth it, mate. And will it change him? No." Walking away, Wilfred comes up, clearing the mood of the café as they all separate.

" He's right," Emma scoffs. "He was, but that's not what changed me though," he says, looking over to Rikki smiling.

[Lewis and Cleo sit back down at their table.]

Cleo: "Byron is such a nice guy." Lewis stabs the straw into his juice, jealousy taking over.

"Yes, he is," Emma says smiling.

Cleo: "Emma's right. We should go to Miriam's party to show some support for him. I mean, what a hero." Looking dreamily.

"You're going again? Ugh, make your mind up already," Kim whines. "I did," Cleo says shamefully.

"That's not what I meant. I meant if we could control the transformation then maybe we could. But since we can't, going to the party would be a total disaster," she explains.

Lewis: "Great. Well go."

Cleo: "You think?"

Lewis: "Yeah. Whatever blows your hair back."

People look on, stunned, not expecting that. "Watch it, Lewis," Don warns.

"Jealous?" Rikki teases. "Shut up," he mutters embarrassed. "Sorry, Cleo." "It's okay," she says, smiling at him.

Lewis: "Cleo, I don't get you. One minute you're going, and then you're not. And now you're going again." Getting up from his chair, he grabs his juice and leaves. Cleo looks away guiltily and huffs.

"I should've told you why sooner," she whispers. "Well, in all honesty, it's not like I would've believed you. I mean, it probably would've made things worse," he says smiling, making her giggle.
