Chapter 6; The end of Robert's rebellion, chronicle of archmaester Zarabelo
The events that occurred in the months following the coronation of Rhaegar I the beloved, after the tragic death of Aerys II the broken king, while testing the prodigy of balloon flight, were marked by the surrender of the Vale, after the general amnesty carried out By his grace, by which, after handing over hostages, most of the lords of the Valley, taken prisoners in the battle of the Trident, were freed. However, Jon Arryn was prohibited from leaving the Vale for the rest of his life.
The North was largely devastated, with Greyjoy troops coming to besiege Winterfell itself, leaving a trail of destruction for hundreds of leagues with the sacking of numerous fortresses and villages, many of which were unprotected given that the majority of the lords were prisoners, although some were on the run. The coalition between the Reed, Manderly and Flint hosts was necessary to fight the Ironborn. In the vicinity of Winterfell the Battle of the Red Snow was fought, where the combined army of the three houses and the remains of others faced the Greyjoy army. According to several testimonies such as that of Howland Reed "The battle was a carnage, the snow was red as fire, the corpses spread as far as the eye could see" but that battle was a pyrrhic victory for the North, Lord Quellon Greyjoy was murdered in the same battle, and his troops were forced to retreat due to the inability to hold the supply lines.
However, the North was attacked by the Velaryon fleet, which occupied White Harbour, taking advantage of the distraction of the Ironborn. Allowing the landing of ten thousand soldiers of the crown, under the command of the lord commander of the royal guard Sir Gerold Hightower, who advanced without many problems towards Winterfell, massacring the remains of the Reed and Manderly hosts, while the Flints took refuge. escape, falling the Stark headquarters and capturing Benjen Stark, completing the capture of the entire Stark house.
In the Stormlands, the balloons dropped several dozen soldiers, who opened the doors in the middle of the night, causing thousands of Highgarden soldiers to enter the fortress, massacring all the occupants. It is said that, with the exception of Davos Seaworth, the rest of the fortress was passed behind. Following direct orders from Lord Frey, the Baratheon brothers were beheaded as soon as they were captured.
But it was not the end of House Baratheon, since Lady Lyanna Stark, who had recently died after giving birth to Robert Baratheon's bastard son.
According to various investigations, Lady Stark had been raped the night before she disappeared by her fiancé, upon discovering that Lord Rickard's daughter was the knight of the smiling tree. As it was discovered, Lady Lyana fled in desperation seeking the protection of the then prince of Dragonstone, however, some unfortunate events such as the audacity of Brandon Stark to commit treason by showing up to kill the prince in the capital, led to his execution and that of his father, under orders of the king. The king would later order the execution of the entire House Stark, along similar lines to what Lord Tywin Lannister had done when he crushed Houses Reyne and Tarbeck. Which led the prince to protect the girl using his honor, despite the fact that, according to several of the prince's closest friends, the poor girl had the nerve to try to seduce the new king, and introduce the rebel's son to Baratheon by a bastard of the king himself.
Unfortunately, Lady Stark died giving birth to a child named Jon Snow, who the king, in his kindness, at the request of Lord Frey, legitimized giving him the surname Baratheon, and making him lord of Storm's End, under the tutorship of Jon Connigton. who had returned from exile to serve his old friend.
However, there was serious trouble in the Riverlands, as Lord Bolton and his troops devastated part of the Green Fork for two months before being surrounded by the Freys and the Mallisters. However, Jared and Merrett Frey, sons of Lord Walder, perished in the battle, before a seriously wounded Lord Bolton was captured along with two hundred of his soldiers. Which were taken in chains to the capital, at the request of the disconsolate lord.
However, the most relevant news would be to come in Dragonstone, where Queen Rhaella and her son Prince Viserys were taken for health reasons, being accompanied by Sir Jaime Lannister, who had been released from his vows in the royal guard by the king, at the entreaty of his father, Lord Tywin Lannister, and the advice of Lord Frey. According to various rumors, the queen had become very close to Lord Tywin's heir.
In King's Landing, at the initiative of Lord Frey, the so-called three excellencies were created, where Lord Tywin Lannister would become the new hand of the king, the venerable Lord Frey would become royal secretary, a newly created position with the maximum confidence of the king, in charge of matters relating to the royal family. The last position was that of lord commander general of all the armies of the kingdom, a position that was held by the lord commander of the royal guard, Gerold Hightower.
Slowly the kingdom moved forward in its reconstruction, which would be illuminated by the rebirth of the dragons, on the island of Dragonstone shortly after the birth of Princess Daenerys Targaryen.
Warning
In the next chapter the rebirth of the dragons will be discussed. However, the pace of publication will likely slow down because I'm thinking about the sequel to The Second Valyrian Empire.
Once again I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my readers for their support.
