Chapter 30: The Sports Festival part. 2-The Presentation
The students from the whole school all lined up with their classes in separate grouped up rows at the center of the stadium. The center of the stadium was made up like a giant football field with an all concrete flooring and white outer perimeter lines that created a rectangle that stretched extremely far, so much so that it held all the students of UA. At one of the midsections of the outer perimeter lines was a large stand where the umpire and announcer would stand.
There were several different billboard sized mega screens that encompassed the whole field and gave a panoramic view from every angle. Right now the mega screens were showing off produced advertisements for companies who paid to have them show. There were enclosed VIP booths all along the very top of the stadium where top officials and big brand names company CEOs sat and watched for any promise in the event.
At the spot over casting the umpire's stand was the main control and announcer hub where Present Mic and Eraserhead sat as co-announcers for the event. Eraser even brought Persian along for his own self indulgence, much to Mic's own displeasure. He and Persian still weren't on good terms, and Persian loved to tease the poor mic hero.
Gar was seated behind the announcers hub, waiting to make his dramatic entrance alongside All Might, who was wearing his Silver Aged costume.
The entire stadium was in an absolut uproar as pro heroes and civilians from all over crowded the entire every seat in the stadium! The sound of their cheers and fireworks going off all around was almost deafening and kind of anxiety inducing for the inexperienced heroes ready to fight for it all! Then the actual festival started with none other than Present Mic himself on the…..mic…..introducing, welcoming, and engaging the startup of the Sports Festival. The crowd was in an even loud roar of excitement! Then Prest Mic introduced this year's umpire of the festival, that being The R-Rated Hero: Midnight.
Midnight walked up to the stand in a seductive with a mic pinned to her extremely questionable outfit. Some of the young heroes looking on at her idly question her choice of costume for such an event. After she got to the stand she quickly briefed the students on the general rules and what was going to happen, snapping her whip every now and again. Three events they all would have to prevail and overcome in order to reach the 1st 2nd 3rd or 4th place.
After all the general stuff was explained, Midnight adjusted her hair and stated, "Now before we begin, its tradition here at UA that we let the current top student in all the classes say a few words before the event. That student being….", she paused dramatically, "Bakugou Katsuki!"
The crowd cheered and the students all cringed, as Gar sighed in exasperation at what was to come.
Bakugou walked up to the mic setup and after a brief pause he said with an unusual calmness, "I promise….to beat all of you down."
All of UA gasped and internally freaked out hearing this and fully expecting it, as the other students and and people in the crowd taunted and booed the teen! Gar slapped his face while All Might sighed like a disappointed dad.
"You're all just stepping stones for me, so don't think any different.", Bakugou stated to the UA student body while giving a thumbs down.
"By the Legendary Beasts, do I have to rag on that stupid kid again?!", Gar moaned from the top of the stadium.
All Might looked at him and asked, "Do what again?"
Midnight was also shaking her head with her hand on her face. Once Bakugou left, she took the stand again and said, "Thank you Bakugou-kun for…..that.", Midnight took the stage again and started to the crowd, "Now before we get things started. We have a special guest here to send us off by lighting the fire at the top of the stadium."
Midnight pointed to the front of her point of view where standing nearly at the top of the stadium was a large goblet-like structure filled with wood, connected to a small staircase.
The crowd oohed and awed at the sight of it, as Midnight pushed back more of her hair while walking off to the side, saying, "Now I'm sure you all know his name, but let's give a warm and welcoming cheer for our honorable guest, the #1 hero himself, All Might!"
Once she finished, All Might himself bounded from behind the announcer hub and appeared to literally drop from the sky, landing perfectly on the umpire stand, next to the set up microphone, and sounded off with his trademark bountiful laugh!
"I AM HERE!", he bellowed his catchphrase, with the crowds and young heroes going wild! All Might waved for a few moments before speaking into the mic, "THANK YOU! THANK ALL OF YOU! IT BRINGS MY HEART SUCH GREAT JOY TO SEE SO MANY PEOPLE HERE IN SUPPORT OF THIS MOMENTOUS EVENT. TO THOSE OF YOU IN THE SANDS AND WATCHING AT HOME, I'D LIKE TO THANK EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU FOR YOUR CONSTANT ONGOING SUPPORT!", The crowd cheers wildly. "AND NOW WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, I SHALL INITIATE THE BEGINNING OF THIS YEAR'S SPORTS FESTIVAL WITH THE CEREMONIOUS LIGHTING OF THE TORCH!"
All Might reached behind us back and pulled out a torch handle. Unfortunately he failed to notice that the flame that was once lit on it had now gone out, and now was a black, smoking, smoldering tip.
All Might notice this after you heard the cheers of the crowd immediately die down. He looked at the torch and immediately saw its state of not being lit.
He sweat dropped awkwardly and asked, "Oops. DOES ANYONE HAVE A LIGHTER BY CHANCE?"
Gar groaned from his hiding spot and said in an irritated tone, "Oh for the love of the Lake Guardians!"
Gar grabbed a ball off his belt and threw it into the air. It popped opened and everyone's attention was drawn to the blue light filling the air. The light manifested and Moltres appeared before the crowd. The pokémon screeches into the air and everyone around oohed and awed at the sight of the fiery bird pokémon! The pokémon soares downward and lands on All Might's huge forearm! The pokémonrepositions itself on the man's arm, spreads its wing, and lets out a bellowing triumphant sounding screech!
The crowd, heroes, and students go completely insane, cheering and whistling at the sight of the huge bird! All except for class 1-A and especially Todoroki. The half and half teen stares up at the bird with a petrified expression.
Moltres looks down into the crowd of UA students, and almost immediately spots Todoroki. They lock eyes for what feels like an hour, with Moltres keeping its wings spread and its eyes hard and focused on the teen. While Todoroki remains completely stiff and petrified as a statue looking at and never taking his eyes off the legendary bird. But then Moltres does something that shocks and snaps Todoroki out of his fearful trance. It turns its head away from the teen and closes its eyes almost like it's trying to ignore him. Todoroki and the entirety of 1-A also noticed this, and idly wondered what this meant?
Though they didn't have time to dwell on it, as all might profess loudly, "YOU KNOW WHAT? THIS'LL DO JUST FINE.", All Might readjust his stance and says, "LET'S TRY THIS ONE MORE TIME. WITH THE LIGHTING OF THE TORCH I NOW OFFICIALLY PROCLAIM THIS YEAR'S SPORTS FESTIVAL, OPEN!"
All Might threw the bird off his arm and directly at the pyre! Moltres flew with such great speed that the trail of fire it left illuminated the sky a bright orange! The pokémon crashed into the pile of wood and it immediately went up in flames! The crowd held their breath in anticipation as Moltres showed no signs of reappearing. Suddenly the pyre shot up a huge column of flames and Moltres appeared hovering over the giant goblet with wings spread and cry sounding off loud! The people cheered with zeal as the legendary bird took off into the air and circled the stadium.
"That was so awesome!", Kirishima cheered!
"Gar sure knows how to save someone last minute.", Jiro snorted while clapping her hands.
"Did anyone else notice Moltres giving Todoroki the cold shoulder?", Momo inquired.
Everyone in class 1-A muttered to each other about what this ment and even looked to todoroki for an answer, but he looked just as clueless as the rest of them.
"Hey Deku-kun, do you know anything about that? You and Gar talk about Pokemon all the time.", Uraraka asked the green teen.
Izuku rubs his head nervously and says, "Well actually I'm still learning. But I've never heard anything like this. Maybe….Gar will be able to help us later on?"
And Izuku wasn't too far off from this statement, since right after Moltres went airborne, All Might went back to announcing to the crowds, exclaiming, "NOW BEFORE WE GET EVERYTHING TO SWING, I'D LIKE TO WELCOME A VERY SPECIAL GUEST OF OURS, WHO HAS GENEROUSLY HELPED WITH MUCH OF THIS YEAR'S SPORTS FESTIVAL! AND THE LIGHTING OF THE TORCH.", for a moment All Might could swear he heard Gar yell, 'your welcome', but pushed the thought away as he continued with what dignity he had left. "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, PLEASE GIVE A WARM WELCOME TO UA'S VERY OWN, POKEMON TRAINER HERO: GARFIELD!"
All Might motioned to the top of the announcer booth where Gar was standing over the edge with arms spread apart. Gar then leaned forward and fell off the announcer booth and straight down to the ground! The crowd gasps with fright and some even scream as Gar's body plummets down at an alarming speed! But suddenly Moltres came in and catched the teen on his back, just as he was halfway descended! The crowd cheers with gusto at this and watch in amazement as Gar stands on the birds back and and rides it like a surfboard, encircling the stadium and waving to the cheering crowds!
Just as Molters was a dozen meters from the ground, Gar fell off the side of the bird body and plummeted once more! Yet again the crowd gasps and screams, until a fireball runs out from one of the stadium entrances, jumps off the umpire stand, and catches Gar-making him disappear into the flame ball-only a moment before he hits the ground! The fireball runs around the perimeter of the stadium field, in just 20 seconds, and stops at the umpire stand where the fire of the fire ball pulls away enough to reveal Gar riding a pokemon!
In essiants, it was a cream colored unicorn with a mane and tail made of flames! Outfitted with a fire proof saddle and bridle. Gar was striking a cowboy pose on its back as it reared up on its back hooves and whinnied like a horse as fire encircled him in a magical display! He was followed by Moltres soon after, who landed next to the teen and the fire unicorn, in its own magical display of fire! The crowd went wild at this and cheered even louder than they did before!
"That was super manly!", Kirishima cheered with tears in his eyes!
"Gar sure knows how to make an entrance!", Mina exclaimed!
"What a ham.", Jiro snorted.
"GO GAR! WHOHOO!", Deep yelled!
"Who's that pokemon?", Tsuyu asked.
Izuku's eyes glittered at the sight of the Pokemon and told everyone, "That's Rapidash, the Fire Horse pokemon. Dex #78, a Fire type, and the evolved form of Ponyta. It's very competitive. It can run 150 mph and loves to outrun anything in its wake in hopes of racing!"
Everyone nearby looked at Izuku weirdly until Bakugou summed it up saying, "Fuck, you are such a nerd Deku."
Gar hopped off Rapidash and walked up the umpire stand while waving at the crowd. Once he got to the mic on top the crowd went unusually quiet as they all trailed their eyes on a small something sitting on Gar's shoulder. Mimikyu was sitting on Gar's left shoulder and peaking out shyly in the presence of the enormous crowd. Gar quickly devised what had gotten the crowd's attention and pulled Mimikyu off his shoulder and into his hands. Garlic between the crowd and the Pokemon, and then a small smile grew on his face.
Gar then raised Mimikyu above his head towards the crowd in front of him. At this, the people cheered with gusto! They only stopped when Gar put the pokémon down. Gar then did the same exact thing to his right and to his left, getting the same result every time.
A wide smile spread upon his face, and the teen suddenly got on one knee and proclaimed loudly while raising Mimikyu above his head, The Lion King style. "People of Japan! I bring you… your salvation!"
Mimikyu, who's tiny body was near the microphone, leaned into it and very simply cried out, "Mimikyu."
The crowd went absolutely nuts! Mimikyu was in absolute awestruck flabbergast at the crowd's reaction! Little tears started to prick its beddy eyes and it extended one of its long arms and waved around to the whole crowd, who cheered even louder for the little pokémon.
Gar placed Mimikyu back on his shoulder and took the mic, saying, "Thank you! Thank you all! But on a more serious note, I'd like to welcome each and everyone of you to the UA Sports Festival! It means a lot to see so many smiling and excited faces here today! In spite of everything.", Gar coughed awkwardly before continuing, "But away. This year's Sports Festival it's going to be a little bit different than normal."
The crowd almost went silent as whispers and murmurs filled the air between both the stands and the students. Gar waved his hands in a show for them to settle down, and after they did all might took it from there and explained further.
"YOUNG GARFIELD IS CORRECT! THIS YEAR WE HAVE SOMETHING MUCH DIFFERENT IN STORE FOR OUR NEXT GENERATION OF YOUNG HEROES. BECAUSE THIS YEAR, POKEMON WILL BE A PART OF THE SPORTS FESTIVAL!"
The crowds and students all initially gasped in shock, but was soon replaced by excitement!
"So that's what he meant by 'participate in a different way'.", Momo said to herself.
"ALL EVENTS THAT OUR FUTURE HEROES WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN, WILL BE DONE WITH ADDITION OF POKÉMON!", All Might stated before pointing to the students. "IN LIFE, A HERO MUST OVERCOME ALL OBSTACLES SET BEFORE THEM. INCLUDING NATURE! AND WHAT BETTER WAY TO TEST YOUR METAL, THAN WITH LIVING NATURE ITSELF!", he told the students.
"MIDNIGHT, SEND US OFF!", All Might exclaimed.
Midnight came up to the umpire stand alongside the two men, snapping her whip and stated, "Thank you both, All Might and Garfeild! Our first event of today will be….", Midnight draws out in suspense as the jumbo board behind her, containing Rotom's face, switches to a spin counter and lands on a colorful sign with pictures. "Obstacle Course!"
Everyone murmurs to one another, until another crack from Midnight's whip grabs their focus again.
"In this event, you'll be-.", She began until a loud booming erupted from the sky!
Everyone looked up and saw storm clouds quickly manifesting all around. Rain quickly followed after and many people tried to duck for cover or try to shield themselves.
"So sorry folks. Looks like we've got some unprecedented rain today. Well get the stadium cover up and continue on from their.,l", Present Mic announced.
Just before Aizawa could start pressing the controls for the cover, Gar stopped him, shouting, "Hold on a second their Eraser!", Aizawa stops and looks at the teen on the ground, with the rest of the crowd. "I think I know the cause of this. Rotom."
Rotom's face appeared on one of the jumbo screens. "Pull a panoramic view of the stadium.", He asks the pokémon, as he blips and beeps in confirmation.
A moment later and a birds eyes view is shown of the stadium from about 500 yards away on the jumbo screens. In the live video feed, the storm clouds were centered and conjuncted directly over the stadium and nowhere else.
Gar nods in understanding and says, "Just as I thought. Someone must've used Rain Dance and caused this storm. Don't fret everyone, I'll cancel the effect of this in a hot second!"
Gar takes two pokeballs off his belt and throws them into the air. The pop open and two small Pokemon, no bigger than small dogs, materialized in front of the teen.
The first one resembles a plain, gray cloud with a single wisp extending from the top of its head, head that was larger than it's small body, large eyes with a mask design around them, and floated in mid air.
The other one had two purple petals enclosed its deep pink body. A short purple stem and a green leafy sepal sprout from the top of the petals. Its eyes appear to be near its short legs.
"Castform, Cherrim, use Sunny Day!", Gar commanded the two pokémon!
The two pokémon then started to draw light around it into two separate spheres. The two spheres combined and were tossed into the sky by the two pokémon! The ball of light flies into the clouds and disappears. Not even a few seconds had gone by when the ball of light expanded in a dazzling explosion that ripped the cloud apart! Leaving only the light from the sun to beam down onto the stadium. The crowd and students cheer at this as the appearance of both pokémon drastically changed!
Now Castform's lower half becomes pure white, while the head turns orange and develops small orange spheres around it. This gives it the overall appearance of the sun above a small cloud. Its skin glows and dries, and becomes hot to the touch.
While Cherrim petals open up like a blossoming flower. Pink petals similar to cherry blossoms surround its head and cover its chest. Several of the petals radiate outward from a yellow sphere on the back of its head. There is a small, triangular patch of green on its neck. Additionally, two berry-like orbs, resembling cherry-shaped hair ornaments, adorn its head. It has stubby limbs, with the arms being pink and the legs being yellow.
Gar smiles at this and taking the pokémons pokeballs out, he said contently, "Nice work you two. Now return for now."
Red beams shot from the balls and turned the two pokémon back into energy. Gar pocketed the two pokéballs and turned back to the crowd while saying, "So sorry about that folks, I'll be sure to look into that a little later. But for now take us back on track, Midnight."
Midnight took a moment to compose herself and then replied back, "Thank you for another save their Garfield.", Midnight cracks are whipped again and starts from the top. "As I was saying before, your first event will be the Obstacle Course over 500 m long. The road ahead will be filled with all kinds of traps and dangers to impede your progress." everyone murmured to one another again about the challenge ahead, but Midnight got their attention again with a crack of her whip.
"However, there is a catch! Only the first 50 of you to pass the finish line will be able to proceed to the next round. The rest of you who don't make it to that spot, will be disqualified! So you better give it all you got if you wanna show your metal!", she announced!
"AND THAT'S NOT ALL FOLKS!", All Might burst in before everyone could go back to murmuring. "YOUNG GARFIELD HERE HAS SET MANY OF HIS POKEMON OUT ON THE COURSE AS OBSTACLES AND HAZARDS TO STOP YOU!", he told the excited crowd, while also getting mixed reactions from the students.
1-A have expression boarding on fear and anxiety!
Suddenly Gar cut in as well and explained further, putting the teens minds at ease, "But don't worry everyone. I made sure to take precaution. All my pokemon know not to hurt any of the students. Anything they do is them simply trying to impede or halt their progress. Any injuries, if any, will be extremely minor.", Gar steals a look at 1-A and winks his eye. Making them all visible relax. "However, in the event something does go aerie, we have our amazing medical team on standby!", Gar announces while motioning to the far off corner of the stadium where Recovery Girl was sitting in a long golf cart, sipping a cup of tea, with all of her pokemon in the cart with her.
Everyone cheered for the old woman and pokemon.
"And with all that out of the way, I'll do the same myself. I wish all of you luck!", Gar announced to the students while returning Moltres and climbing back on Rapidash's back, riding off into one of the huge stadium entrances and vanishing from sight.
"NOW THEN! LET'S START OFF THIS EVENT WITH A UA TRADITIONAL SAYING!", All Might told the crowd!
All Might counted down from three and the whole crowd and students all said the UA traditional saying, which was something completely different from what All might was saying. The whole crowd noticed this and went silent for several seconds before finally processing what happened and shouting out in confusion, "EHHHHHHH!?" All Might looked uncomfortable at this, knowing he messed up, and continued to stand there in his pose with his arm raised in air and body leaned to the side until the awkwardness subsided or until someone saved him. All while Midnight and Aizawa were sighing at the ridiculousness, Mic and Rotom were trying to hold their laughter back, and Gar-who was outside the stadium-was unsure whether to join in the reactions of either.
It wasn't until Midnight finally broke the atmosphere, exclaiming, "Students of UA! Get ready!"
The students were immediately knocked back into position and readied themselves to run.
But Midnight didn't give them too long to prepare as she shouted, "BEGIN!"
Suddenly one of the main stadium entrances, blocked by two giant metal doors, swung open up as their starting point! Daylight flooded into the dark entrance point and all the students took off like a stampede of wild animals towards the door! Running for their lives to make it to the next round and gain recognition from the pro heroes of Japan!
