Chapter 47: The Sports Festival part. 19- The Pokemon Battle.
The crowds and teens all gasped at his words, then broke into astounding cheers of excitement from the crowds of people, leaving the teen to only gape in awe of what was gonna happen! Even the Sports Festival winners, still standing behind Gar on their spots, were shocked by this sudden revelation! Gar waited a good while for the cheers to die down before he continued with the rest of his speech.
"I'm glad to see that you're all as excited as I am, 'cause I'm sure it'll be BIG! Now then, to clarify a few things for all you curious people out there. Only and I mean ONLY the first four winners of the Sports Festival can participate. But that doesn't mean they're forced to.", Gar then turned to the three teens present and said, "This is completely up to you three. If you want to participate in the battle, then do your best! If not, then that's completely fine. This isn't a requirement, simply a bit of extra fun that counts towards nothing. So, what's say you?"
Gar, along with everyone else, watched and waited for the three teens to give their answers. After a long pause, one of them finally spoke up.
"I'll do it.", said Tokoygami simply.
"I'll do it too.", Todoroki answered.
"Grrrrrr!", growled Bakugou with the medal still in his teeth.
Gar sweatdropped a bit and said, "I'll take that last one as a yes. Awesome to hear your all willing to join!", Gar then turned back to the crowds of silently cheering people and said, "Now then for the main rules and setting of this battle, which is quite simply, in it our-", Gar began to say until Midnight came to his side, getting his attention. Gar sighed aggravated by this interruption and said, without realizing his mic was still on, "What is it? Can't you see I'm in the middle of something?"
Midnight then whispered something into his ear, and he gave a confused look as he asked back, "What do you mean Tenya isn't here! Well where is he?!", Midnight whispers again and he asks inquisitively, "Leave, so suddenly, why?", she whispered into his ear and his expression slightly dropped to worry as he said in a softer voice, "His what is in where?", Midnight whispers to him once more and Gar's whole face goes pale as he says with a deep Dredd, "Ohhhhhhhh….."
Gar then turned back to the crowd, realizing he hadn't turned his mic off during his conversation with Midnight, and then tried to play it off cool with a tense smile as said, "Ahem! Well folks, slight change of plans here. Turns out our Fourth place winner had to pull out due to some….delicate personal matters. So instead we'll tally up all the points our fine heroes in training have accumulated, see who our runner-up is, and let them join in if they want to.", he then turned to one of the jumbo tons and exclaimed, "Rotom, if you'd please!"
Rotom's face appeared on the jumbo board and said with his constant smile, "Righty-o Gar! Buzzt."
His face disappeared as all the students' pictures appeared with a counter next to their names that would go up to a certain number, that being the points they accumulated, and once it stopped the student's face would be taken off. This process went by very fast and the runner-up of the sports festival turned out to be none other than Izuku, whose face was the only one left on the screen, just five points over one other student.
Gar looked at this revelation with a neutral glance and sweatdropped as he said to the pokemon with an uncomfortable laugh, "Ah, hahaha. Rotom, I love Izuku as much as you do, but this is serious. Remember that the Recreational Games did not count towards anything, so no biases."
Rotom, looking deeply insulted, retired back, "I'm not! Buzzt."
"Run through it again.", Gar demanded with a tone that left no room for discussion. Rotom rolled his eyes but ran to the counter once again. And yet again it brought back the same results, with Izuku taking the runner-up spot. Gar huffed aggravatedly and stated, "Okay, Rotom if you're not going to take this seriously then I'll just have Porygon2 do it."
Rotom, on the board, turned bright red as he yelled back, "Buzzt. I already told you I'm not-!"
But he wasn't able to fish as his face was quickly booted off by Porygon2, who happily smiled and made a strange cyber noise, much to Rotom's anger.
"Alright Porygon2, go ahead and count those numbers!", Gar commanded the pokemon with a point of his finger in a cheering tone. Porygon2 made more cyber noises and disappeared as the counter was brought up once more. And just like the other times it ran fast and showed the runner up who happened to be Izuku once again. Gar's eyes widened at this and he felt himself anime sweatdrop at the awkward realization. Trying to keep his tone from sounding too surprised, he said to the crowd, "Oh…..I guess Rotom was right after all."
"I TOLD YOU SO! Buzzt.", Rotom yelled while trying to put his way back onto the screen with Porygon2, causing the two pokemon to fight for space.
Gar coughed and said trying to save his mess up, "Well the numbers don't lie and neither does the unbiased middle party. Izuku Midoryia, our three times in a row winner of the Reconrational Games, has the option to join and perform in the Pokemon Battle!", he proclaimed as the crowd cheered excitedly for the not-so-winner, winner. Gar then turned back to the crowds and looked at Izuku while preparing to ask him, "Well Izuku, will-?"
"YES!", Izuku suddenly shouted out excitedly before Gar could finish. Realizing his less than stellar outburst of acceptance he backtracked a bit, in shame, and said, "...um, I mean, yes, yes I will."
Gar smiles brightly at him and proclaims with his burst of enthusiasm, "I like your energy! Well then, all participants please come stand before me.", he asked as Izuku maneuvered through the crowds of muttering students, and the winner jumped down from their podium while meeting in front.
Gar also took notice that Bakugou had signiftly calmed down somewhat and was still being held and toted around by Beware. Who was even walking him to the front and holding him up to see better? He looked at the cuddly-looking pokemon awkwardly and said, "You can let him go Beware.", the pokemon obeyed and dropped the teen while walking over to her trainer's side.
Gar smoothed out his hoodie while petting the bear pokemon's head and looked over to the side where an unusually large and circular machine was brought floating out by a Kadabra. The device looked like one of those 'wheels of fortune' but turned on a slightly elevated 180 as opposed to a 90. The top was made of glass and painted like a standard Pokeball, there was a secondary part under it that seemed stationary to the moving piece on top, and out of it were four grooves for something to roll along and collect along with it. The top piece had a single hole in it where several dozen different pokeballs all rattled around like some kind of bingo ball cage.
Seeing all the students, onlookers, and contestants watch the huge contraption with bated breath, Gar smiled and told the new battlers, "Before you are our Pokeball randomizer! All the Pokemon in this machine have the same level and stats and will each be deposited to each of you one at a time, with all of you getting a total of four different Pokemon. None of you will know what you get, so it's all up to luck. After which you will have a 10 min break to get to know your team and strategize. Good luck little heroes!"
Once he was done with his speech, all four of the teens walked up to the individual revival slots and waited. Gar looked at the Kadabra and nodded his head. Kadabra looked at the device and with its physic powers controlled through its spoon, it spun the wheel, and the sound of the pokeballs shaking around sounded off. Within seconds four individual pokeballs for all four teens were deposited and Kadabra used its powers to stop the spinning machine. With their four mystery pokemon in hand, the four teens went off to get acquainted with their new battle mates.
Izuku finally found himself in a nice secluded area to get to know his temporary Pokemon. He looked around once more to make sure none of his soon-to-be opponents were around to catch an advantage over him, once he was certain he took a deep breath and looked down at the four different pokeballs in his hands.
The first one was colored different shades of blue; he recognized this as a Dive ball. The next one was just a plain Pokeball. The next one was green on top with four upside-down red teardrops and one orange dot in the center; he knew this was a Friend ball. The last one was all pink with a darker pink heart in the center; which he knew as a Love ball.
Wrapped around each ball was a small tuft of paper that had the corresponding Pokemon's move list. He decided to look at the papers after he saw what Pokemon came out of which ball first. He took the Dive ball first and rolled it in his hand. He knew that whatever was inside just had to be a Water Type. He pressed the button and threw the ball into the air where it popped open and out formed a figure that was far larger than he was expecting for a Water-type.
The Pokémon to come out is a large sea Pokémon that resembles a plesiosaur. It has a blue hide with darker blue spots and a cream-colored underside. It has large brown eyes, a short horn on its forehead, and tightly curled ears. Its face was longer and had more cut angles rather than curves with eyes like Bakugou. It has a long neck and four flippers. The foremost flippers are larger than the hind. On its back is a heavy, gray shell covered in blunt knobs.
Izuku immediately recognized this Pokémon and shouted out in excitement, "Wow! A Lapras!"
Lapras looked at the short green thing in front of her in confusion at first. Wondering why this green thing was so happy to see it. Then she noticed it was a human boy! After remembering what Gar had told her, she knew this green boy was her temporary trainer. Though if she was being honest, she wanted this kid to become her full-time trainer.
Even without using her telepathy to read him, she could tell he was a good soul from the start. The way his eyes twinkle with delight and his body tensed with excitement, to his smile and projection of his voice. She arched her head down to the boy and offered her head. Izuku didn't hesitate to stroke the hard blue scales of the Pokémons body.
Through this, Lapras was able to gain even more on the boy. The way he stroked her and the fact her psychic powers are far stronger with physical contact, she could read his intentions like a book. Reading enough, Lapras pulled away from the petting and sang out a harmonious tune that made Izuku gawk at her.
After shaking himself out of his fantasizing entrapment, he looked back at the remaining Pokeball and decided to see the rest without wasting too much time. He took the normal Pokeball next and threw it into the air. It popped open and out came to a much smaller pokémon standing on two legs.
The Pokémon is a bipedal, canine-like Pokémon with predominantly blue and black fur. It possesses a short, round spike on the back of each forepaw, in addition to a third on its chest. It has red eyes, a long snout, and ears. When its mouth is open, two pairs of pointed teeth, one in the upper jaw and one in the lower, can be seen. It possesses cream-colored fur on its torso and blue fur on its thighs that resemble shorts. It has a medium-length tail of the same blue color as well. It stands on its toes rather than on its entire foot. It has four black appendages that hang down from its head.
Izuku immediately recognized this Pokémon and shouted excitedly, "A Lucario!"
Lucario turned around to meet the loud voice, only to flinch back at not just the huge sight of Lapras and her hugeness, but also Izuku and how close his face was to its own! Lucario almost attacked in self-defense but cooled down when Lapras started to sing. Once the Pokémon stepped back, he took in the sight of his new trainer. At first glance, he looked like a typical wimpy, string bean, nerd and it didn't impress the Pokémon one bit. But then he looked into those big sparkling otaku eyes and saw a fire. A determination that burns red hot! It was like looking at strength and willpower itself in its more primal form!
Lucario wondered what made this one kid so special? Sure he'd listen to his commands since this was only temporary, but some called out and made an unlikely connection with this boy. So raising the appendages on its head it looked at Izuku's aura with blue glowing eyes, and was shocked by what it found! Izuku's aura almost perfectly matched his own! To think that not one, but two vastly different people had an aura that linked up with his own! It was unheard of!
But that only solidified Lucario's feelings regarding the teen. He was strong, stronger than most, and he knew it but didn't boast about it. He was kind, fearless, and determined. Lucario had only seen and felt this once before. Back to the first moment, he broke free of his egg.
Lucario made up his mind and gave a slight yet gruff woof while nodding his head. Izuku, who was starting to get increasingly worried about Lucario's unusual behavior, tilted his head in confusion at this. Lucario, seeing that his message wasn't getting across, rolled his eyes and held out his paw in a fist.
Izuku looked at the paw and took a moment to realize what it was trying to do. Excitedly he pumped the fist back, being mindful of the sharp spike. Once his excitement died down a bit from being shown near-instant respect by yet another pokémon, he quickly and excitedly threw out the Friend ball, anxiously anticipating what could pop out next!
To his surprise, something entirely different and unthinkable popped out instead. It was small, only the size of a child. It is humanoid and appears to be wearing a tutu. Most of its body is colored white, and there are three ruffles on each hip. Beneath the ruffles, it has skinny light blue legs with long, pointed feet. Its arms are also thin with two digits each. It has light blue hair that covers most of its face and reaches its shoulders on either side, resembling two ponytails. Large, red eyes are visible on either side of the hair that covers its face. On each side of its head is a flat, red horn that resembles a hairpin.
Izuku tilted his head in confusion as he said, "A Kirila? That's a bit strange but okay."
At his words, the small Pokemon glared at him hatefully, slapped him, and turned away from him while crossing its arms with its head turned up. Izuku rubbed his face and frantically tried to apologize to the Pokemon with flailing arms.
"I-I-I didn't mean it in any derogatory way! No not at all! I just meant it was strange. I already got two strong and cool Pokemon that I didn't expect to have one like….you?", Izuku tried to apologize, only for the Pokemon to whirl around and slap the green boy with a shocked expression.
Trying again, Izuku tried to say, "No no no! I didn't mean it like that either! You are shiny so that's cool.", Kirila cut him off as she stomped over to him, on her toes, and looking into his eyes made a series of sounds as if she were asking him what he meant, like an angry girl.
Izuku looked around nervously and panicked, even though he was vastly taller than the Pokemon, and tried to save himself once more, but only ended up choking on his own words in the end. He sighed and just decided to tell the real truth.
"Look Kirila, I'm sorry alright. I guess I got my hopes up a bit too much after getting two strong Pokemon, and I didn't prepare myself to consider if I had something not as strong or cool. And I'm sorry for thinking that of you. It's not your fault you are the way you are, I shouldn't have judged. But you're still the Pokemon I got and the one I have to work with. So…..will you forgive my dumbness in the act of this upcoming battle?", Izuku told the small Pokemon.
Kirila turned back, with arms still crossed and head held high with a very in both eyes, to see the green boy's head bowed to the floor. Kirila closed her eyes and mulled it over for a moment before looking up to the two other Pokemon with psychokinetic abilities and both nodded their heads at her. Kirila pouted and puffed out her cheeks angrily, thinking even harder! Then finally realized she could read his mind and did so.
She found what the two other Pokemon present saw in him, and the genuineness of his apology. Knowing that she really couldn't refuse him now, and not just because he had temporary control over her, she sighed and reluctantly accepted his plea despite her pride. She made a few noises to symbolize her acceptance, to which Izuku happily raised his head and grabbed the small pokémon in a hug. Much to her dismay and eye-rolling.
Izuku held Kirila on his lap while looking at the last ball, the Love ball. He knew he shouldn't get his hopes up now, but the anticipation and excitement were overwhelming! So taking a deep breath he threw the last ball into the air and watched as it popped open to reveal another small creature.
Izuku's eyes immediately lit up as he realized what was in front of him! It appeared to be a mammalian, quadrupedal Pokémon with primarily brown fur. The tip of its bushy tail and its large furry collar are cream-colored. It has short, slender legs with three small toes and a pink paw pad on each foot. And has brown eyes, long pointed ears with dark brown interiors, and a small black nose.
"Oh Wow! An Eevee!", Izuku squealed in delight, much to Kirila's annoyance.
Eevee turned around at the sound of the excited and friendly tone, only to be met with the shining, bright, smiling freaked face of Izuku. Eevee tilted his head for a moment before bouncing excitedly with a smile of his own, and bounced right into Izuku's arms to nuzzle him! Izuku giggled gleefully as the Pokémon tickled him with his wet nose! While Kirila sat idle with neutral aggravation, Lapras and Lucario looked on with their enjoyment.
Once Izuku pushed Eevee off him, he wiped the tears from his eyes and said while looking at his pokémon, "Man, when Gar said the results would be random, I didn't think he meant this random. I wonder what everyone else got?"
Izuku shrugged the question as fast as it came and said to his new team, "Well, no time to wonder about the future, let's see what you guys can do."
He took out the pieces of paper that the pokéballs came with and read over each one. Izuku's eyes widened as he read every move that the Pokemon had at their disposal! The variety was incredible, and only a few knew the same type of move! Even if one of them were at a type disadvantage, they'd have a move to turn it to their favor!
Izuku pocketed the sheets after memorizing them and said to his team, "Pretty diverse move sets. This'll work great for us! So long as I play my cards right, we could win! Are you guys ready to give it your all in this battle?!", Izuku exclaimed while standing up and raising a fist in the air!
The Pokémon followed suit and raised their appendages while letting out their exciting battle cries! Even Kirila, who looked far more neutral while doing it. Smiling at the response, Izuku took out the four pokéballs in his hands and returned all the Pokémon before heading out.
After the ten-minute break was up, the four teens emerged from the inner part of the stadium and back onto the field where they found it had changed. And not just cause all the students and the winner's stage was gone, no. Now the ring was more of a square with all four corners colored a different color. Gar was still standing on the umpire stand and when he saw the four teens come into view he waved for them to come forward. Once all four teens were standing in front of the older teen he went on with the blah blah blah routine.
"Okay heroes, I hope you got to know your team, cause now it's time to battle!", Gar exclaimed as the crowd cheered loudly! Once the crowds calmed down some, Gar directed them to their places. "Please take one of the four colored corners around the ring.", he told them while motioning to the four different colored corners.
Bakugou took the red corner, Izuku took the green, Todoroki took the white, and Tokyogami took the blue. Once in their spots, Gar nods and gives them the rundown.
"Now for a general rundown of the rules. Since none of you know Pokemon battling in general, I'll try to be as detailed as I can.", the four teens nod at the older teen for him to continue. "Base rules are simple: you choose any Pokemon you have to fight. You use your next Pokemon when it faints or you decide to switch out, and if all your Pokemon faint, you lose. The last one with any remaining Pokémon will be declared the winner. Is this clear?", again the teens nod their heads. "Good, now for the more specific rules. Rule One: you cannot bring out more than one Pokemon at a time. Rule Two: you cannot and I mean cannot have your Pokemon attack another Pokemon after it has fainted. Rule Three: you cannot use your Pokemon to attack your opponent. Rule Four: you cannot attack your opponent or their Pokemon. If any of these rules are broken at any time, then it will mean instant disqualification. Is this clear?", Gar said in a serious tone, to which all of them nod, except for Bakugou. Gar sees this and says to him, "I'm looking at you Katsuki!", Bakugou growls and begrudgingly nods while hiding a middle finger towards him. Gar nods his head in satisfaction and says, "Good. Then gentlemen, send out your first-!", Before Gar could finish his sentence, one of the pokéballs on Izuku's belt popped open, and out came Kirila standing behind him.
At the moment Izuku was more than confused. Why did Kirila suddenly free itself from its ball, and why was it standing so far from Izuku? Especially with that nasty look on his face….. okay, Izuku could answer that last one, but the other two had him scratching his head.
Before he could ponder this further, Bakugou decided to get mouthy. "Hey! Stupid Deku! What do you think you're doing! Trying to one-up me in this fight! Purple Fucker didn't even say go! Are you gonna send out a second one too?! Ha! That's against the fucking rules, you stupid nerd!"
"Hush Katskui! I'm the umpire here, not you!", Gar silenced Bakugou's yapping. Turning back to Izuku he says, "Any reason your Kirila is out before I give the go, Izuku?"
Izuku gulped and scrambled to explain himself, much to Kirila's enjoyment. "I-I-I'm not sure. Kirila just l-let herself out. I swear! A-Also….I don't think she likes me."
Gar nods at the teen then narrow his eyes at the small pokémon behind him and say rhetorically, "Kirila. We talked about this, remember?"
Kirila responded by blowing a raspberry at Gar.
Izuku grabbed the Love ball and said, "I-Its okay Gar, I'll just put her back until I need her."
Izuku then tried to return the Pokémon, but it moved out of the way, just before the beam could absorb it. Izuku made a strange noise at this and tried again, and again, and again, and again. And several more, and frustration, times.
Gar, pissed off by the Pokémon's disobedience, authoritatively raised his voice, saying, "Kirila! Behave!"
The Pokémon, once again, responded by blowing a raspberry at both Izuku and Gar while majestically dodging every attempt to return her to her Pokeball.
Gar slapped his forehead and grumbled, "UGH! Teenagers.", He slid his hand down his face and waved for Izuku to stop as he said, "Fine fine, have it your way. So long as Kirila is not used in battle with another one of your Pokémon on the field or tries to intervene from the sidelines, I see no trouble in letting her stay out of her Pokeball to view the event near you."
Izuku stopped trying to return Kirila and looked at Gar confused, asking, "Really?", leading Kirila to put a proud and snobbish smile on her face, complete with a confident posture.
"Hey!", Bakugou's voice rang out before Gar could talk. "How come he gets to take a pokémon out and we don't?! I call bullshit on your 'no favorites' rule!"
Gar suppresses the urge to roll his eyes under his hood and says back, "So long as Izuku doesn't have Kirila attack while another pokémon of his is present and near him the whole time, there's no harm in letting her watch. Plenty of trainers do it, even me. Right Mimikyu?", Gar asks the plushie pokémon still perched on his shoulder, who let out a tiny squeak.
Gar then cleared his throat and said, "Now then, with no other distraction to stop us. Then gentlemen, send out your first Pokemon!"
Izuku thought long and hard about which pokemon he should send out first and knew exactly who it should be. He looked back to where Kirila was now sitting down and watched him with judgmental eyes as if expecting him to flunk and ready to laugh at him for it. Nearly reminded him of Bakugou, which made him slightly shiver.
Holding the plain Pokeball in his hands he threw it out into the field while shouting, "Go Lucario!", Lucario emerged in a ball of blue light and roared upon its emergence!
Tokoyami then sent out Honchkrow, Todoroki sent out a Ninetails, and Bakugou sent out a Primeape. While throwing out their respective pokemon, Izuku couldn't help but notice that the only other person to call out their pokemon names, besides him, was Tokoyami. While Todoroki and Bakugou just kind of grunted and softly said go. This made Izuku wonder if only he and Tokoyami were the only ones to interact with their pokemon.
Just then, the jumbo board behind Gar lit up with Rotom's face one moment before going to a completely different screen. It had a pic of all four of them with four pokeballs under them with a pic of their currently used pokemon right under theirs, and four green bars, no doubt resembling HP bars, appeared under all four of their pokemon. A counter appears in the center of the screen, counting down from 3.
Once it got to one, Gar shouted out excitedly, "Begin!"
Then all hell broke loose as the four teens shouted different commands to their pokémon! Izuku told Lucario to use Aura Sphere on Ninetails, Tokoyami told Honchkrow to use Air Cutter on Primeape, Bakugou told Primeape to use Focus Punch on Honchkrow, and Todoroki told Ninetails to use Flamethrower on Lucario. Primeape began to focus its energy but lost its concentration once Air Cutter hit its unmoving body. Dealing critical damage and making the green HP bar below Primeape turn yellow! Lucario generated blue energy between its paws and sent the sphere towards the opposing Pokemon. Ninetails shot out a plume of fire that directly connected with the aura ball. But the sphere broke through the flames and hit Ninetails head-on! The HP bar on Ninetails dropped but still kept green. The Pokemon shook itself off and growled in the direction of Lucario, ready to fight!
Todoroki told Ninetails to attack with a Quick Attack, and the Pokemon sped off with blinding speed, covering the distance between them in moments! While Izuku told Lucario to counter with Close Combat! This broke out into a game of cat and mouse with Lucario trying to block off the speeding Pokemon, and Ninetails trying to get an opening.
Back with Bakugou and Tokoyami, things were not looking up for the explosive teen and his angry punch monkey. Bakugou had long since given up on trying to use Focus Punch, since Primeape always lost its focus, and was now having trouble just trying to hit the opposing Pokemon! Every time Primeape came in for an attack, Honchkrow would simply fly out of the way! The one attack that did hit did almost no damage. Leading to Bakugou's ever-growing anger.
He gave Primeape another command to use Draining Punch, but Honchkrow dodged again, in an elegant and flamboyant manner, only to counter with a Steel Wing attack. The attack hit the pokemon and sent it cleaning back to Bakugou's corner! On the board, it showed Primeapes HP drop down to the red, with only 1 HP remaining!
At this point, Bakugou completely lost his temper and began to yell at his dazed and injured pokemon. "Stupid fuking mother fucking ape shit! Why can't you hit that fucking shitty emo bird once or even fucking hard! You're a fucking fighter! Why is it so hard to punch a stupid fucking bird with a big head! You're the most useless shithead I've met!"
The tack mark on Primeapes head grew and multiplied at his words, and turned to face the teen with an expression of fury that blew him straight out of the water! Bakugou didn't even have time to flinch as the pokemon jumped to his feet, whirled around, and tackled him to the ground while clawing at his face with its boxing glove-like hands! This led some of the crowd to laugh as the teen was attacked with vicious revenge by the pokemon.
Gar, on the other hand, simply shook his head and quickly said, "Primeape is disqualified due to lack of trainer control. Katskui, return Primeape and send out your next pokemon."
Katskui managed to kick Primeape off him long enough to pull out its Pokeball and return him. He got up and looked at the Pokeball while growling under his breath, "Fucking useless."
As this was happening, Tokoyami switched his gears and sent Honchkrow to attack the other two battling pokemon. Meanwhile, back with Izuku and Todoroki, Ninetails and Lucario were still locked in their game of cat and mouse. Once Honchkrow started to fly in their direction, the two teens knew it was time to act fast, so they each told their pokemon to attack one another directly.
"Lucario, use Bone Rush!", Izuku commanded!
"Ninetails, Crunch.", Todoroki called out.
Ninetails jumped into the air and truer to bite down on his opponent, while Lucario quickly manifested a large femoral bone and caught the Pokemon's mouth in it! Ninetails shook wildly to rip the bone away, but Lucario wouldn't give up as he tried to fling the pokemon off his weapon!
Tokoyami took his chance and told Honchkrow, "Use Shadow Ball."
Honchkrow bent one of its wings back where pure ghostly power coagulated into a sphere. It then threw the ball off its wing and towards the two fighting Pokemon. Both boys tried to think fast in reaction, but Todoroki thought quicker.
"Pull Lucario, Ninetails!", he commanded, and the fox Pokemon pulled the upright jackal Pokemon in his direction!
This caused Lucario to get hit with the print of the Shadow Ball! Lucario was sent flying back from the attack and skidded across the arena leaving it vulnerable, which Todoroki and Tokoyami took full advantage of.
"Ninetails, Flamethrower.", Todoroki told the fox Pokemon, who breathed a column of flames that directly hit the Pokemon trying to stand back up.
"Honchkrow, Steel Wing.", Tokoyami told the crow Pokemon, who dived in and hit Lucario in his gut, causing the Pokemon to fall and finally pass out!
Izuku, who had been standing there in awe and anxious fear of it all, hung his jaw low as he looked between his downed Pokemon and the jumbo board. He watched as the HP bar went from yellow to red and then to nothing. It beeped to indicate Lucario's fainting. The pic of Lucario turned a dull grey and then went behind his pic on the jumbotron.
He nearly didn't register Gar speaking, as he announced, "Lucario is unable to battle any further!"
Izuku hung his head as he pulled out Lucario's Pokeball and returned it. He also vaguely heard Kirila laughing at his failure from behind him, even to the point she doubled over and fell on the ground. Izuku immensely became lost in his mind as though self-doubt and fear overtook him. He felt guilty, small, weak, and empty with the only thing filling him was a familiar humiliation to his middle school days. He hasn't even been in this battle for more than five minutes and he already lost a Pokemon! He was so good with knowledge and strategy that he thought using both in combat would come easy, but it wasn't! It was like something completely different now!
He's already failed as a leader, he failed himself, he failed to make his presence, he failed All Might, his mom, and worst of all Lucario. And now Kirila was laughing at him for it, making him sink even more. Izuku was sure that Lucario was now thinking differently about him, alongside the other pokémon. And that made him sink even lower. He was so low that he almost completely tuned out the voice calling him.
"Izuku!", Gar's firm voice snapped him out of his trance. "If you don't send out your next pokémon, now, I'll disqualify you.", He said with a forceful and hard tone that made Izuku tense up, and Kirila snickered from behind him!
He quickly got out another ball, not even bothering to look at what it was, and threw it into the field. It popped open and out came Lapras with a huge BOOM as she hit the ground! Lapras let out a cry that sounded like the first few notes of a song in the challenge! Izuku gulped hard and tried to center himself, knowing that Todoroki and Tokoyami were still not far from him. Though to his relief, they were only fighting one another.
While this happened, very quickly I might add, Bakugou was trying to decide which ball to throw out next. He shrugged his shoulders, grunted, and threw out a random one. It popped open and out came a pokemon that looked exactly like a Pokeball with angry-looking eyes, albeit much bigger and without the button. It made a sound like that of electricity running through a current or static noise. At first, Bakugou was appalled to throw out such a dumb-looking pokemon, but once he looked at the paper that came with the ball, he developed a huge grin at seeing the first move it had available.
Without a moment to spare, he shouted, "Use Explosion!"
Within moments all eyes were on Bakugou a Voltorb, who was now glowing a bright white color! The three teens tried to tell their pokemon to dodge, but it was all in vain as Voltorb released all the energy it sorted up into an explosion so huge that blanketed the whole ring with immense power! A plume of smoke swept around what hadn't been exposed to the sheer jewels of force emitted, covering not only the teens and Gar but several rows of bystanders watching in the lower rows of the stadium. Nearly knocked the three teens off their feet, along with Gar, and Kirila who was holding on with her psychic powers! It took several seconds for the smoke to dissipate enough for all to see, but once it did it was shown that Honchkrow, Ninetails, and Voltorb had passed out on the jumbo screen. All of their HP bars were empty and their pictures had darkened with three resounding beeps. On the field, when the smoke cleared, the board told the truth as the three pokemon laid on the ground with swirls in their eyes.
Gar coughed several times before announcing, "Voltorb, Honchkrow, and Ninetails are unable to battle."
Bakugou, although pissed that such an awesome move completely killed the pokemon in one go, was happy and brandished a shit-eating grin at his triple kill! But that smile faded quickly as he realized that he had only knocked out two of the four pokemon presents. He looked at the jumbo screen and saw that Lapras still had some HP left, but it was deep in the red. He looked towards the field and saw only Lapras standing there visibly weakened by the attack and still hanging on by sheer willpower alone! Bakugou grows angrily at this and returns Voltorb along with the other two teens, to which all of them throw out their next pokemon simultaneously.
Todoroki's next pokémon was a quadrupedal, mammalian Pokémon covered in light-blue fur that can be frozen into sharp quills. It has long, pointed ears, dark eyes, and a small nose. A teal crest with two dangling flaps adorns its head, resembling hair or headgear. Glaceon has two dark blue, rhombus-shaped markings on its back; the tip of its tail, feet, and flaps are the same shade of blue. Known as Glaceon.
Tokoyami's next pokémon was a Pokémon composed of two swords. Each sword has a silver blade and a light gray hilt. Embedded in each hilt is a single, pink gem with a dark center that appears to be an eye. Attached to each pummeling is a long, dark purple sash with a pink swirl pattern on the tip; the tip of the sashes split into four tassels. It has two sheaths that are attached to a plaque. The sheathes are varying shades of brown with lines forming a triquetra pattern across the front. Near the top of each sheath are white teeth-like markings and rings with white centers that resemble eyes. A third ring extends onto the hilt and encircles the actual eye. Known as Doublade.
Bakugou's next Pokémon was a quadrupedal Pokémon with a long, slender body. The top half of its body is a dark blue-green, while its underside is cream-colored. It has triangular ears with dark red interiors, a rounded snout, and triangular red eyes. Each of its paws has three toes. It has five red spots on its body that can project flames: two arranged vertically on its forehead and three lined up horizontally on its rear. Known as Quilava.
The board appeared with the new pokémon and their full HP bars. At this point, Izuku knew that he was already outmatched. He probably would have beaten all pokémon present due to Lapras being so bulky, but now it would only take one attack of ineffective quality to make the Pokémon KO. Right now he had to hit first and most of all, Hard!
So without a second to spare, he shouted, "Lapras, use Surf!"
The Pokémon let out a strange cry and from behind it a huge wave of water suddenly appeared and scooped it into the air. Lapras rode the huge wave that prevented any Pokémon present from escaping! The wave towered over all of them and arched downward preparing to crash! The three teens tried to shout commands to their pokémon, but anything they tried to do was all in vain. The wave crashed down and covered the whole ring while somehow not getting the teens or Gar wet!
The water disappeared as fast as it came and all three pokémon were still standing, despite the attack used! Izuku was in shock and looked between the jumbo board and pokémon to see if anything had happened at all! While Izuku's jaw hung open at the sight he really should've expected, he could distinctly hear Kirila chuckling, mockingly, at his fail sweep.
Quilava, despite its typing, had come out completely unscathed! Izuku looked at the Pokémon and noticed an invisible barrier that was still dripping wet. Izuku knew that had to be the move Protect. Then there was Doublade, no surprise there. Its typing didn't exactly make it super effective. Glaceon was another case of improper typing used. Still, two of the three pokémon did take damage, but now there was no way he could get away with that again. Looking at his opponents he knew they'd all come for him. And so they did.
Bakugou shouted at Quilava to use Flame Wheel, Todoroki commanded Glaceon to use Blizzard, and Tokoyami told Doublade to use Twin Slash. The attack all locked into Lapras and jetted towards the Pokémon with haste! While Izuku scrambled to think of a counter move! Lapras was too heavy to dodge and too hurt to move even if it wanted to. Even if they were in the water it wouldn't make much of a difference at this point.
With a last-ditch effort to take them down with him, he shouted, "Lapras, use Perish Song."
Just as the attacks were mere feet from the Pokémon, she opened her beak-like mouth and produced a strange melody. All the attacks hit the poor pokémon before the song could end at its climax. Izuku watched in shock as the large majestic pokémon took the brunt of all three attacks and promptly fell to the floor with a thud!
However, luck was on Izuku's side that day and the string of song notes produced by Lapras was just enough. A string of music notes all appeared and floated around the three pokémon, emanating a sweet tune that put the Pokémon into a state of bliss. However, that bliss was cut short by the same music notes that suddenly turned red and emanated a sour and dreadful tune before disappearing.
The HP bar on Lapras vanished and the picture of the Pokémon darkened. While a counter was placed on all the remaining pokémon, starting at three.
"Lapras is unable to battle.", Gar called out.
"Three? Three what? What does three mean?", Tokoyami asked aloud.
"Why is there a counter?", Todoroki asked.
Hearing at least one of his opponents ask what the counter meant brought a small ray of hope into the teen's soul. Maybe Lapras did get punked long before she could make a splash. But at least her power will linger till the end of the match. Izuku walked out of the down pokémon and placed a hand on her head. As this happened Kirila looked on with an upturned expression of assuredness and self-knowledge, thinking that the teen would probably just cry or throw his shortcomings on Lapras. So she sat there and waited with a smug smile for her prediction to come true.
Lapras opened her eyes and saw Izuku kneeling next to him with his head down. The Pokémon could sense his sadness and frustration, but not at her, just himself. She could hear the forced chokes trying to hold back his tears, and it saddened the Pokémon to her core. She tried to sing for him but could even squeak out a note. Kirila almost felt bad for Lapras in her current state, but also couldn't help but lavish in the face she would pull when Izuku does what she expects him to do, along with the feeling of being right.
Then Izuku did something the both Pokémon hadn't expected and raised his head with tears in his eyes and a bright smile on his face. This brought a shocked expression to both pokemon, especially Kirirla who was trying to keep her jaw from dropping down. Not only from the surprise but also from being wrong! He petted the Pokémon as she stared back at him with the confident and glimmering smile that warmed her insides, while also churning up a storm of mixed emotions in Kirila.
"You were great out there Lapras. Great job. You deserve a good rest.", He complimented the Pokemon while taking out its Pokeball and returning it. Lapras looked like she wanted to comfort the boy, but was too late as the Pokeball converted her back into energy.
He wiped his eyes and returned to his corner while saying to the Pokeball, "I'm sorry I failed you too."
When he said this, Kirila felt like everything she just knew got turned upside down. She felt like her pride was hurt about being wrong, which made her mad. Yet seeing she was wrong in the best way, and now knowing what Izuku was really like made her feel happy. And yet even after all this she now felt a sense of melancholy at seeing the boy try so hard with all his heart, only to fail so badly. She almost felt...connected to him.
Sure her life was practically hand-drawn from the time she was an egg. But even she could see that Izuku and Gar were much alike in many ways. Their own experiences with constant determination to their goals, only to fall short so many times. All things she found out from Gar's first Gardevoir, Kirila's mother. She looked back to izuku with a new state of mind about him, while still feeling the current of feeling mixing around in her about him, however, her mind was made up.
Izuku tried to take a calming breath, but it didn't work. He was already down to just two pokémon and the two before got KOed faster than he expected them to! Was he just going to ironically forfeit this whole battle? He didn't want to. He couldn't prove himself in the Sports Festival, he wanted this to be his comeback, but now that wants to be the case.
Swallowing hard he turned to the Pokémon still sitting behind him and said to it in a soft and warm tone, "Alright Kirila. You're up."
The Pokémon stood to her feet, er, toes and marched into the ring with an unsure and wobbly disposition. Although her mind was made up about Izuku, the way she still felt was still mixed and it conflicted with her. That and she didn't know how Izuku would handle himself thus far. He already had outed two of his strongest pokemon in five minutes. So her chances of winning or surviving were slim, but she had to give it her all.
The board flashed a picture of Kirila under Izuku with two greyed-out pokeballs, and the battle continued. Izuku tried to stand firm and sound confident, but even Kirila could detect the chip in his tone as he commanded, "Kirila, use Extrasensory on Glaceon."
The horns on the small pokemon glowed and so did the area around Gleacons head. Before the ice fox pokemon could realize what was happening a blast of psychic energy engulfed its head causing the pokemon to falter in its footwork and made it flinch with a glazed look on its face! Baku saw this and took full advantage, telling Quilava to attack with the Flame Wheel. The echidna pokemon blasted fire from the pores on its head and rump, curled into a ball, and spun straight for the ice pokemon! The fire-wheeling pokemon slammed into its opponent and caused massive damage! So much so it was enough to KO it in one shot!
Glaceon fell with swirls in its eyes as the HP counter fell empty with a resounding buzz at its defeat. The pic darkened and Gar announced Glaceon's defeat. Todoroki returned the pokemon and looked at its ball with a neutral yet displeased expression. Displeased at the pokemon or himself was up for debate. He took out another Pokeball and threw it only to be met immediately with disappointment and regret.
Out of the Pokeball came a very familiar pokemon that Todoroki couldn't help but remember clearly. Ambipom. He only hoped the pokemon had forgotten about what he did and was willing to put it aside until this battle was done. When Ambipom appeared it did its happy hopping dance to show off for the crowd of cheering people! Ambipom took notice of its pic on the jumbo board amongst others but then noticed its picture right underneath Todoroki. He turned around slowly and made a disgusted and furious expression at seeing the teen's face.
Todoroki almost flinched at seeing the monkey pokemon reaction to him, then found himself confused when he saw Ambipom turn away from him, sit down, and cross all its arms with 'nose' turned up. When Todoroki tried to command the pokemon, it simply turned its head in the other direction while stiffening up its body posture.
Back with Izuku and Kirila, they both felt a slight twinge of hope at their unusual successful takedown. They both smiled at one another for their shared excitement, however, that same excitement vanished as Izuku suddenly yelled for Kirila to move! Kirila almost hesitated at his sudden shift, but did as she was told and just barely dodged a Metal Claw attack from Doublade! The twin sword pokemon kept their assault as Kirila did all she could to prevent being hit! Izuku recomposed himself and told Kirila to use Barrier.
The small pokemon quickly used its physic powers to put up a barrier of psionic energy to try and hold back the onslaught from the ghostly swords. However, the twin swords were far more precise than given credit for and they instantly broke through the shield with little effort and gave massive damage to the pokemon! Sending her flying back from the power of their twin might and directly at Izuku's feet! Izuku looked in stunted slice at the pokemon by his feet and almost feared she had been taken out in one shot! He looked at the Jumbo board and was relieved that Barrier resisted some of the damage, leaving Kirila's HP at yellow. But the pokemon was still hurt and definitely couldn't take another Metal Claw, and Tokoyami looked like he was still going to attack them.
Izuku looked around quickly as if trying to find an answer somewhere in the area, but he couldn't! All he got was the deafening cheer from the crowds that swarmed in his head like a swarm of angry Beedrill alongside his swarming thoughts that raced around trying to figure something out! But nothing came to him, just the overwhelming pain that throbs in his head as his emotion soon mixes with everything else! It became so bad that he tried to put his hands on his ears to alleviate the sound and pain, but that didn't work. It kept swarming and expanding until hot tears ran down his face and onto Kirila.
The tears prompted the pokemon to wake and saw Izuku leaning over here with a painful expression. Kirila used her physic power to look into his mind and nearly got a head rush as she felt the surge of thought and sounds and emotions all bombarding his brain! She then used her abilities to alleviative the thought and feelings and quiet them down enough for Izuku to get ahold of himself. After a few seconds, the redness of Izuku's face melted back to his usual complexion, his hands fell from his ears, and he loosened up. Though the tears remained.
Izuku looked down at the small pokemon, who looked back worryingly at him and felt his hand slide over her head in a soothing petting motion. Tears continued to spill from his face as they fell onto the pokemon. Izak tried to hold them back as he continued his petting, but they just kept coming as Kirila continued to look up at him and feeling synchronized with his feelings.
While this was going on, one of the pokeballs on Izuku popped open and Eevee appeared to Izuku's side happily yapping. It saw Izuku kneeling over Kirila and jumping over to say hello! The small pokemon placed its paws on Izukus while standing on its hind legs, trying to grab his attention. When that didn't work, he rubbed his head along Izukus body and nudged his head into the teen. But still, Izuku didn't respond to the pokemon. Eevee became curious as to why he was being ignored and walked in front of Izuku, only to see an injured Kirila on the ground being petted by him. Eevee coked his head at what was going on and gave a worried little yip at the scene.
Izuku sniffed back and said to the pokemon, "I'm sorry Kirila.", the apology took the pokemon off guard. "I wanted to bring us to victory….but I can't. I just can't. I know what to do, but I just can't put it to use. I want to be better for you, Lapras, Lucario, and Eevee.", Eevee yip unsurely at its name. "I-I don't think I can accomplish this…..it seems like I can't accomplish too much with someone giving me a hand.", Izuku tried to wipe his eyes dry before he continued. "I've let so many people down who have believed in me, but now…..but now…..I wanna believe in you!"
Kirila's eyes widen at his words and she feels something warm and powerful flush through her body! Was it pride? Understanding? Relation? Acceptance? She didn't know, it felt so...new to her. Even Eevee felt this strange emotion rush over him. Sure it wasn't directed at him, but he could still feel it. And it filled the small pokemon with a sense of compassion and sadness.
"I wanna believe in you Kirila. And I will believe in you! Even if you lose I know you'll do your best! Cause I know you are the best!", he exclaimed to the pokemon while a huge smile spread over his crying face!
Kirila felt the same strange sensation run through her again, but this time far stronger! Whatever emotion Izuku projected onto her, filled her with strength and desire to overachieve! It even causes her to shed a tear like Izuku. Even Eevee felt this and looked on at Izuku with a stunted expression of awe!
Without another word between them, Kirila pulled herself to her feet on wobbly toes, shook herself off, and began to walk out towards the field once more. Izuku wanted to call her back, but something in his mind prevented him from speaking and so he watched as the weakened pokemon stroud out with confidence! Once Kirila was out of a good way and was staring down Doublade and Tokoyami, she took a deep breath in and let out a loud cry that shocked both pokemon and trainer! Not even a moment later a bright light emanated from Kirila's whole body and all eyes were on the glowing pokemon!
"What the hell?! Is that thing gonna explode?!", Bakugou yelled in surprise while Quilava went on the defensive!
"Far from it!", Gar says excitedly! He turns to the crowds of gawking people and announces, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I hope you are not looking away right now cause this is something you don't wanna miss! Don't adjust your TV or glasses cause this is real! For the first time in this world, you all have the pleasure of witnessing a truly magnificent event that happens regularly in my world and less so during a battle! Evolution!"
The crowd awes at sight as Karla's form begins to grow and spread and change before everyone's eyes. Within a matter of seconds, the change has stopped and the light fades to reveal Kirla looking dramatically different than she did before while letting out a cry that sounds like a human singing! Kirila now appears as a bipedal, humanoid Pokémon whose body resembles a flowing gown. Most of its body is white, but its hair, arms, and the underside of its gown are light blue. Its hair curls over its face and down the sides of its head. Behind its red eyes are short spikes, resembling a masquerade mask. It has long arms with three fingers on each hand and slender white legs. A red, fin-like horn extends from its chest, and a shorter, more rounded horn extends from the back. A band of light blue on its chest extends to the center of the front horn and connects to its sleeve-like arms.
"Congratulations Izuku! Your Kirila has evolved into Gardevoir!", Gar announces!
"Gardevoir.", Izuku repeats the name whimsically.
Rotom quickly changed the jumbo board to its Pokedex setting and pulled up Gardevoir's data entry.
"Gardevoir, the Embrace Pokemon, a Psychic and Fairy type. Dex #282, and the evolved form of Kirila. Gardevoir only evolve when they have formed a truly strong bond with their trainer. In this new form their Pystokinic powers increase to the point they can't distort space-time and predict the future.", Rotom announced before pulling back up to the battle formate.
"By the glory of the Legendary Beats Izuku. How in the world did you manage to secure such a tight bond with Kirila in those ten minutes you had together? You gotta teach me!", Gar stated excitedly!
Izuku looked at Gar and just sorta shrugged while giving a dry laugh. He looked at the jumbo board, just before the info sheet was replaced, and saw that Gardevoir had learned a new move in place of Extrasensory. Physics. He looked back over to Gardevoir, who looked back at the bewildered Izuku and smiled while giving him a nod. Izuku smiled and nodded back while standing to his feet and regaining his confident posture again. While Eevee ran behind Izuku to watch.
"Gardevoir, I did know I made such an impact on you? I'm glad you believed that I could believe. And even now….even now, I still do! SO LET'S GIVE IT EVERYTHING WE GOT!", Izuku shouted while Gardevoir let out her battle cry and faced off with Tokoyami and Doublade!
Meanwhile, not too long before Kirila evolved, back with Todoroki and Ambipom. Ambipom was still refusing to take any orders from Todoroki, leaving the half-teen in an awkward bind. A fact which Bakugou noted and took full advantage of. He commanded Quilava to continually use Flame Wheel on Ambipom. Quilava did as it was told and rolled into a fiery ball while hitting the monkey pokemon in rapid suggestion. Todoorki tried to command Ambipom to dodge or at least counter, but the pokemon still refused to comply, even at the cost of its health. Eventually, Ambipom was hit enough times that its HP bar was already in the yellow, but no matter how many times it was hit, the monkey pokemon still refused to take orders or fight. He just sat there and continued to take the abuse.
Seeing that this would be an easy victory/revenge on Todoroki, Bakugou commanded Quilava to use Double-Edge in hopes of taking down the opponent in one go! Quilava roared and sprinted off on its stubby feet at full speed! Todoroki saw this and tried to yell for Ambipom to at least move this one time, but he didn't respond and still sat there with his back turned and arms crossed. Quilava came before Todoroki could realize and slammed its whole body into Ambipom! Ambipom was sent careening back to Todoroki while Quilava took some recoil damage. Both HP bars on both pokemon went down, but Quilava still stayed green while Ambipom was already edging towards the red! Bakugou was annoyed that his attack didn't take it down in one go as he planned, but he was still happy knowing it wouldn't take much more until it.
Todoroki was stunned at what was happening, despite his best efforts to hide it, and looked down at the critically injured pokemon. He tried to carefully place his hand on its large head, but the pokemon regained its conscience and smacked his hand away while hissing at him. Ambipom moved away from him and turned away while crossing his arms. Todoroki tried to reach out towards the pokemon, but got another slap and hiss in return.
Gar shook his head at this scene and said to the half teen, "Shoto, if you can't get control over your pokemon then I'm going to disqualify it from the battle. You have one minute."
Todoroki looked from Gar while gulping hard and looked back to Ambipom who was still ignoring him. Bakugou, hearing gars words, backed off to watch him fail. Knowing what Todoroki did to Ambipom not long ago finally came to bite his ass and give him an easy win against him. He attempted to reach out towards the pokemon but withdrew his hand back while looking down at it, unsure of what to do. He tightened his hand into a fist and knew if he wanted to win, or at least not watch his second to the last pokemon get thrashed, he would have to do something he didn't like and wasn't used to. Opening himself up and saying sorry.
"He took a deep breath and in a low tone, unlike the one he was using to give commands, he said the pokemon's name softly. "Ambipom.", the tone of his voice dre in the pokemon's attention or at least part of it. "Im-I'm...not so good with these things, but….I'm sorry. Back before, when I pushed you away. You were only trying to help the only way you knew how, and I shouldn't have reacted like that. It was wrong of me. I'm sorry.", this time, Ambipom was giving its full attention to Todoroki, who was now looking at the ground. "So if you...could you….I don't know how to say this. Can you at least understand that I-", before he could finish that thought, Ambipom jumped onto him, crawled around his shoulders, and then forced one of his fingers into Todoroki's nose and began to painfully pick it!
Todorki eventually managed to pry the pokemon's huge fingers out of his nose and was able to breathe again before looking at the devilishly smiling pokemon and asking, "So I guess this means you forgive me?", Ambipom responded by making a series of happy grunts and squeaks! Todoroki, giving a very rare and slight smile, says, "Good to hear it. Ready to battle?"
Ambipom jumps off his shoulder and into the field where he squats off with Quilava and an irritated Bakugou. Just before either of them could recommence their fight, a loud sound and strange light caught their attention. Over on the other side, one of Izuku's pokemon was starting to glow up and grow up. The sight was blinding but also too amazing to look away from! In a matter of moments, the light died down and Izuku's pokemon looked much different than before.
As they all stood there gawking at the new pokemon, Todoroki heard Rotom read off its Dex entry, and then saw Izuku stand up with a more confident posture and announce his refueled fighting drive. Todoroki knew from here on out that it would be a real battle. And boy was he right.
Back with Izuku, Tokoyami was the first to attack in their standoff. "Shadow Ball.", Tokoyami told Doublade, who put the tips of their swords to gather which created a dark sphere that was launched at the newly evolved pokemon.
The sphere of darkness hurdled straight for Gardevoir, but to everyone's surprise, the Pokémon swatted away the attack like a pesky bug! Tokoyami's beak dropped at this site and if Doublade even had a mouth it would've dropped at that power move! Then to top it off, Gardevoir waved for them to 'bring it on.
Both bird trainer and Pokémon took the challenge as Tokoyami says, "Twin Strike."
Both swords launch themselves at the tall pokémon while making wide slashing arcs!
But Izuku was quick and more determined this time as he countered back, commanding, "Stop it with Psychic!"
The pokemon held its hand out as power energy warped around it with glowing eyes and in a moment the oncoming pokemon was halted mid acceleration. The pokemon was visibly trying to move, but couldn't even budge, made more clear by the sweat marks that formed around it. Tokoyami stood there and watched his pokemon completely frozen in motion and unsure of what to do or how to react.
Then without hesitation, Izuku quickly commanded, "Now Gardevoir, use Moonblast!"
While the twin sword pokemon was still held by Gardevoir's psychic power, it raised its hands to the air where a large moon suddenly appeared and began to absorb some kind of energy. Then without warning the moon shot a beam of light directly on the pokemon and covered it in a brilliant shine for several seconds before it finally dissipated along with the moon. What was left was a slight indent in the ground and KOed Doublade laying in it.
"Doublade is unable to battle.", Gar announced as the pokemon pic darkened on the jumbo board with an empty HP counter.
Gardevoir turns to Izuku and makes a set of noises while pointing towards the other two pokemon still staring at them. Izuku figures out what Gardevoir is saying and nods back while telling her to use Thunder Punch on Quilava. The pokemon trunks back to the fight and using its psychic powers she lifts herself off the ground and rockets over to the pokemon while one of its hands begins to generate an electrical current.
Bakugou sees this and tries to order Quilava to attack! But the pokemon was too slow in charging its attack and Gardevoir was right on him and sent a hard fist covered in lightning onto its back! The pokemon crumples to the ground while Gardevoir looms over it with a determined and fiery expression! Bakugan tries to yell for Quilava to attack again with Hyper Beam, but Izuku is quick to react and tells Gardevoir to block the attack with Barrier! The shield does hold back some of the damage caused by the beam of destruction but being so close, the energy attack causes a backfire, and Quilava gets hit in return. Causing the pokemon to KO itself.
"Quilava is unable to battle.", Gar announces as Bakgou screams in frustration and anger!
Although Gardevoir had won in the risky move, it ultimately caused it to weaken greatly, and now its HP counter was in the red. But Gardevoir was still standing strong as before, even as she stood off and faced down Todoroki and Ambipom! Both of them were nervous to be facing off against a pokemon that already took down two others with minimal effort! Ambipom looked back to Todoroki, looking for some kind of vote of confidence. When he did, he saw Todoroki look back at him and then give a small smile. Ambipom saw the smile and went nuts! Bouncing around and chattering with glee while clapping its hands! Then Ambipom gained a serious and determined expression as he faced off with the other pokemon!
"Gardevoir, use Thunder Punch!", Izuku shouted!
"Ambipom, use Shadow Claw.", Todoroki commanded.
Both of Gardevoir's hands course with electricity while she stood firm on the ground. Once her power reached maximum, she dashed forward with crazy speed while leaving an arc tail of electricity in her path! While both of Ambipom's tail hands run with dark energy that becomes claws, stood firm in his spot and dashed forward using all four of his arms as thrust while a sinister aura trailer behind him! Both pokémon dash towards one another and begin to collide with equal force behind every punch! Each one colliding with the other in a stalemate of raw power! Neither able to land a hit but always able to attack!
It almost seemed like it would be a stalemate the whole way through until Izuku told Gardevoir to jump over Ambipom! She did and once behind the stunning pokémon, Izuku told Gardevoir to use Psychic. The Pokémon then pushed Ambipom back with the power of its mind and the monkey Pokemon found itself skidding across the concrete! Leaving Ambipom's HP in the red!
Once a good distance Izuku shouted, "Now Gardevoir! Finish it with MoonBlast!"
The moon once again appeared above Gardevoir and began to charge energy while Ambipom was trying to pick itself up from the ground! Todoroki knew he and Ambipom only had one shot left if it meant winning.
So he gave Ambipom this last-ditch command, and said, "Ambipom, use Revenge."
Ambipom gained a dubious smile on its face and ran off towards Gardevoir on its tail hands! At that time the moon gained its power and sent down a beam right on top of Ambipom! But the monkey Pokemon still had enough energy to dodge the incoming laser and continue to maneuver around the beam of destruction as it chased it down!
Ambipom was on Gardevoir and before the feminine pokémon could react, Ambipom put on a small burst of speed with a dark look on his face and seemingly dashed by Gardevoir! Everything was still and silent for several seconds as Gardevoir stood unmoving in her spot with arms still raised, and Ambipom stood at Gardevoir's back with one tail hand thrust forward. It was so quiet that not even the crowd of people dared to speak too loud as they all watched with bated breath
Then Gardevoir began to twitch. Her eyes rolled up, her hands fell to her side, and she fell to the ground face first! The HP counter went empty and the board beeped while her pic darkened, signaling her defeat.
"Gardevoir is unable to battle.", Gar announced and the crowd cheered with zeal!
The crowds of people cheering echoed around the stadium at the high-energy battle! Fast as it may have been, but it was something to watch for the few minutes it happened! Ambipom bounced around between both feet and held peace signs with its tails in a celebratory manner, while Tooroki gave a hidden and small smile of pride. Izuku gave a sad, but satisfied sigh at hearing and seeing its pokemon defeat. While Eevee drooped down in disappointment and sadness.
The cheering and celebration continued until Ambipom suddenly froze up mid celebration. Standing on one foot with its arms now dropped to the ground and its normally smiling face glazed over with pale nothingness. Todoroki and a few of the onlookers noticed this and before their eyes, they saw something very strange happen to the purple monkey pokemon.
A set of red music notes emerged out of thin air around the pokemon and encircled it while making a sou and eerie tone. A moment later, like the rest of the onlookers took notice of this, and the notes turned back before making a sound that seemed to come straight out of hell itself! The music notes were absorbed into the pokemon and its eyes glazed over a white shade.
On the jumbo board, Aimbipom's HP suddenly dropped to zero and beeped, signaling its defeat! With that, Ambipom dropped to the ground on its face! The crowds gasped at this sight of the fallen pokemon just lying motionless on the ground, and even Todokrki couldn't hold his shock in! No one knew what had happened, except Gar.
He knew what happened, and decided to put the minds of the people at ease as he announced, "Ambipom is unable to battle by way of the Perish Song."
The crowds all loudly muttered and talked amongst one another at this startling discovery, while Izuku internally celebrated himself for that last-minute move, and also thanked Lapras for her determination! Meanwhile, Todoroki was simply lost in his thoughts at this news.
'So that's what that move does. And that's what that timer meant. 3 rounds passed and everyone still standing passed out. I hope his next pokemon doesn't have that move, cause this is my last.', Todoroki thought to himself while looking down at his last Pokeball.
After a brief moment to let everyone absorb this new knowledge, Gar announced to them, "Alright trainers! Send out your next pokemon for battle!"
Izuku knew that even though odds had been stacked in his favor, even for a moment, he still wasn't out of the woods yet! Everyone was still in and had at least one mystery pokemon except for Tokoyami, who had two, which made things harder. Not only had his last pokemon been revealed and thus its weaknesses, but also was much weaker in comparison to whatever pokemon he was going to face next. The only thing he could do was hope he could make it to the top or at least near it.
He looked down at Eevee at his feet and said to the pokemon, "Okay Eevee, I choose you."
Eevee gave him an enamored expression before it changed to a determined expression, and then yapped at him before confidently and excitedly running out into the field to face whatever foe was next! When Eevee was out on the field, its picture on the jumbo board appeared as Izuku's last pokemon.
Bakugou looked down at his last Pokeball and said to it, "You had better be something kick ass. I'm tired of these lame rejects."
Todoroki looks down at his last Pokeball and says to it, "I think I finally understand this battling thing and pokemon relation. Whatever happens, I know you'll give it your all."
Tokoyami looks down at his second to last Pokeball and says…..nothing. Suddenly Dark Shadow appears and asks, "Aren't you going to say some words of encouragement? Everyone else is doing it."
Tokoyami huffed exasperatedly and said to his quirk, "First off, you know you shouldn't be eavesdropping. And second, what would I say? It's not as though it can hear me."
"Still, it'll help sike you up! I think these pokemon can at least sense your feelings.", Dark Shadow offers.
Tokoyami looks at the Pokeball again and says, "Do your best. Victory is sure to be ours."
All the teenagers, except Izuku, all throw their pokeballs out and three new pokemon appear before the stage! The first one out was Todoroki which looks like a large, walrus-like Pokémon with a layer of blubber under its skin. It is primarily blue, with thin, white rings around its neck and lines on its fan-like tail-fin. There are two long, ivory tusks in its upper jaw. It has a round snout and yellow eyes, and large tufts of white fur about its face and neck. Its four short legs have long flippers instead of feet. This pokemon is called Walrein.
The next one is Tokoyami, who sends out a pokemon that appears as a quadrupedal Pokémon that is based on a hyena. Its fur is mostly short and gray, but there is shaggy black fur on its lower legs, tail, and in two thick strips starting behind its eyes and running the length of its body. It has dark, triangular streak patterns below its eyes, which are red with the yellow sclera. Its ears are rhombus-shaped with dark insides, its nose is red, and it has gray paw pads. This one is called Mightyena.
And finally, theirs is Bakugou's final pokemon which is the largest, scariest, and most dangerous-looking one of all! It's a three-headed, draconic Pokémon with six thin, black wings that each end in two points on its back. It has a fuchsia-colored collar on its neck which surrounds its head. The main head is dark blue and has black eyes with fuchsia pupils. Hydreigon's two hands are also black and each one harbors ahead; these are similarly blue with black eyes with small fuchsia collars on the inside. Its abdomen has two fuchsia stripes and its feet appear atrophied, having no claws or defined soles and two or three small toes. Its tail also sports a fuchsia stripe and ends with a black tuft. This one is called Hydreigon.
Bakugou cheers at seeing his last pokemon as the crowd do a mixture of cheering and gasps of fright and excitement! Izuku looks visibly concerned while Todoroki and Tokoyami just look confused and disinterested. Gar sweat drops at seeing Bakugou's final pokemon and almost considers stopping it from no doubt reaching massive levels of destruction on one part Bakugou and one part hyper-aggressive pokemon! But he opts not to respect the rules that he made.
Rotom comes to him, near one of the smaller screens, and asks, "Hey don't you think that the pokemon on some of these teams are a little on the nose? Buzzt. Almost like they were thought of in advance?"
"Let's not break the fourth wall here, Rotom.", Gar waves off the pokemon before exclaiming, "Begin!"
Izuku immediately commanded We've to use Swift on everyone, Tokoyami told Mightyena to use Ice Fang on Hydreigon, and Todoroki called out for Walrein to use Ice Beam on Hydreigon. Izuku was kinda relieved that they all weren't after him first, and instead wanted to take down the biggest threat right now.
Hopefully with all their powers combined it would be enough to take down this dragon! Too bad Gardevoir had fainted in the last battle. Hydreigon would've been no match for her. But even if they did take down the dragon Pokemon, Izuku would still have to deal with everyone else going for his weaker Pokemon.
Bakugou let out a crazy-sounding laugh upon seeing this, and told Hydreigon to destroy every one of the Pokémon presents with Draco Meteor! The dragon produces three balls of draconic power from each of its heads and then shoots them up into the air. The three orbs fly high and then explode in the atmosphere in a shower of the fiery destruction that rains down on the battlefield!
The attack from Hydreigon not only blocked or dissuaded any oncoming attack, but it also annihilated it! Utterly preventing the Pokemon from receiving any damage! The meteors rain down on the three opposing Pokemon and each of them scrambles to dodge!
Walrein was far too heavy to move quickly and instead stood still and braced himself to tank the hit. Mightyena did its best to run away, but it was not doo lucky as it was bombarded anyway. Eevee only managed to get away unscathed due to its Swift attack colliding with any of the meteors. When the dust settled there stood Eevee who took no damage, Walrein who took the brunt of the attack and ended up with its HP in the yellow, and Mightyena who had been ! Much to Bakugou's disappointment of not obliterating everyone at once.
"Mightyena is unable to battle.", Gar announced as Tokoyami returned his second to the last Pokemon.
He took out his last Pokeball, stared at it, sighed, and then threw it out while saying, "Go Corviknight."
The ball popped open and out came a very large, avian Pokémon resembling a raven. Most of its body is lustrous black, but its lower beak and legs have a matte color. Its feathers are tempered with steel. Its mantle, breast, belly, flanks, and scapular feathers are smooth and resemble plate armor. Corviknight's talons, head, and upper beak are similarly armored. It has a crest above its eyes that resembles a crown, and a ruff of feathers on its throat that resemble a beard. Corviknight's eyes have white pupils, red irises, and black sclerae.
The Pokémon spread its wings and let out a loud and proud caw sound! The jumbo board brought up the last Pokemon and everyone watched with bated breath as to who would win in this showdown. All contestants down to their last Pokémon, with some of them already at a disadvantage due to stats or just HP. The excitement was so thick that all four teenagers could feel it beating down on their necks. None of them attempted anything at first and waited to see who would act.
But the ever explosive Bakugou was the first to break the mold and shouted, "Use Flamethrower on that giant bird!"
Hydreigon did as it was told and all three heads shot fire at Corviknight! The bird took flight at Tokoyami's command And tried to escape the hot flames, but ended up getting its tail end scorched. Tokoyami then commanded Corviknight to counter the Steel Wing. The bird slammed its wings into the dragon, who managed to catch them with its secondary heads.
As the two pokémon clashed with one another, Izuku decided to try his hand at weakening Walrein. So he looked at Eevee and said, "Eevee, use Double Kick on Walrein!"
Eevee obeyed and ran towards the walrus Pokemon before jumping into the air and landing two decisive kicks to the Pokemon space. Walrein seemed virtually unfast and shook the Pokemon off its face by simply whipping its cheek jowls. Eevee pushed off with no effort and managed to land on its feet.
Izuku switched his approach and said, "Eevee, use Quick Attack!"
Eevee tightened its legs and then dashed around Walrein so fast it looked like a blur! The walrus Pokemon could keep track and twisted its head around to try and see where the small pokémon would attack! Walrein never saw the impact that collided with its head and nearly caused it to flinch from the surprise!
Without a moment of hesitation, Izuku followed up saying, "Now use Crunch!"
Eevee moved quickly and bit down hard on Walrein's exposed blubbery chest. But even with all this, the Pokémon looked unfazed and only lost a little bit of HP.
In retort, Todoroki said, "Use Body Slam."
Walrein raised itself upon its back, found as much as it could, and then let its body drop down! Izuku quickly told Eevee, who was still launched to Walrein, to run! Eevee let go of the Pokémon and tried to run as fast as it could! But by the time Eevee had let go, Walrein had already started to descend downwards!
Even though Eevee didn't get flattened under the massive Pokémons body, Eevee was still subjected to the shock wave produced when the walrus Pokemon fell and ended up getting sent flying a good ways away! Although it wasn't a strong move, Eevee still took damage and its HP was knocked nearly into the yellow!
Izuku was stunned for a moment at seeing his Pokemon, despite trying oh so hard, get flicked off like an annoying mosquito! He then quickly here's his view back to Todoroki, expecting him to follow up and finish him off, but instead, he was looking away from him, completely bothered and staring down Hydreigon.
Todoroki decided to try his own 'one-shot-kill-all' move and commanded Walrein to use Surf. The Pokémon roared into the air and a huge tidal wave grew from behind it and picked up the Pokémon who rode it like a professional surfer! The wave grew and grew and grew until it nearly outsized the whole stadium! The two fighting aerial Pokemon immediately took notice of the present shadow and nearly flinched from the shock of seeing the enormous wall of water ready to crash down on them!
Bakugou acted fast and yelled, "Hyper Beam!"
Hydreigon broke away from Covriknight and shot a beam of yellow-orange energy from its mouth, which carved a hole big enough for it to fly through! As Hydreigon flew through the hole, Corviknight tried to follow behind, leading them to battle for the small safe space! However, Hydreigon overpowered the bird and knocked it into the wave!
Not too far away, Eevee couldn't dodge the huge wave and ended up getting swept into it! Eevee tried its best to remain buoyant but ended up getting sucked under and then thrown out of the ring! Luckily Izuku managed to catch the flying Pokemon in time. Corviknight did not fare well and ended up getting sucked under and taking the brunt of the attack!
The wave finally crashed and dissipated on the edges of the ring leaving Walrein very wet, Corviknight with HP in the yellow, and Hydreigon with not even a scratch on it. Eevee wasn't faring well from the experience either. With the small pokémond HP now in yellow and just touching red!
Bakugou had thought about taking Izuku out first, but he wanted to savor him for last. right now he wanted to take out the bird extra and get his revenge on Icy hot for the sports festival! He gazed his feral sneer at Todoroki and his slow Pokemon and commanded it to attack with Dual Wing Beat! The dragon flew towards the walrus Pokemon and prepared to slam its six wings into the Pokemon!
However, Todoroki acted quickly and told Walrein to fight back with Crunch! The Pokémon obeyed and tried to bite the dragon's wings with its large sharp tusks, keeping it at bay for now.
Corviknight managed to shake itself off after getting pulled by gallons of water, but its HP was low. Tokoyami told the Pokémon to use Roost, and Corviknight flapped its wings making several feathers appear that danced around before causing a shining effect on the bird. Sparkles danced around it and the HP bar on the jumbo board shot back to green.
Tokoyami then said, "Use Dragon Claw on Hydreigon."
The talons on the Pokémons feet glowed with a strange energy and it took off on its strong wings with talons ready to strike! While Hydreigon was distracted with Walrein, Corviknight tried to sneak attack him from behind! But one of the heads saw the bird and alerted the main head, who whipped out the head And caught some of the sharp talons in its mouth! Hydreigon then threw the bird away which gave Walrein enough time to counter-attack!
Walrein charged up Ice Beam, which grabbed the dragon's attention, also giving Corviknight another chance to strike with Dragon Claw! Bakugou saw that he was trapped on both sides, and thinking fast he shouted at Hydreigon to use Flamethrower! The Pokémon obeyed and shot fire from both its head arms at each oncoming Pokemon! Both were hit point-blank causing both to be thrown back from the force of the flames!
Luckily due to Walrein's weight, he wasn't thrown back much. Corviknight, already in the air, was thrown back a good bit. Both pokémons HP dropped down, but Walrein was the only one who had any HP left, while Covriknight got !
"Corviknight is unable to battle, which means Fumikage is out with no Pokemon left to battle!", Gar announced Tokoyami's defeat.
The crowds cheered excitedly as Tokoyami returned Corviknight and said to the Pokeball, "Thank you for your hard work. You did amazing out there. Sorry, we couldn't win."
"Yep! I think you're as crazy as Gar.", Dark Shadow popped out and said to him while poking his cheek.
"Begone Dark Shadow.", Tokoyami grumbled while blushing and swatting his hand away.
The jumbo board put an X over Tokoyami's picture while darkening it and the four pokéballs under it, alongside taking away Corviknights pic. Meanwhile back with Izuku, Eevee managed to shake itself free of its wet coat and jumped free of Izuku's arms ready to fight! It looked back at Izuku and gave a determined expression! Izuku couldn't deny the tenacity of the Pokémon and commanded him to move forward and attack Hydreigon with Crunch while it was gloating in its victory!
Eevee ran forward with all it had and jumped into the air behind the distracted Pokemon and bit down hard on its tail! Hydreigon was thrown out of its gloating as it felt the sharp pain in its tail. It looked down and saw Eevee biting down with all its might while looking as threatening as possible in the Pokémon's eyes! Hydreigon snorted in an apathetic sigh and seemed to just ignore the Pokémons attack and tenacity.
Bakugou also wasn't impressed and wanted to save Deku for last. Icy hots last Pokemon was already on its last leg….fin….whatever, it was almost dead. So Bakugou told Hydreigon to just flick the little booger away, which it did. With one swift flick of its tail, it threw Eevee clean like an annoying little bug and refocused all detention back to Walrein.
Eevee was thrown far away! So far in fact, that he was thrown right back to Izuku's corner! Unfortunately, Izuku wasn't able to catch Eevee in time and ended up watching as the small pokémon plummeted to the ground with a BOOSH! Izuku immediately ran out towards the small pokémon, and saw that it was barely moving! He shot his head to the board and saw that the Pokémons HP was now in the red. Even though he hadn't been , he was still hurt, and bad. So much he didn't look like he could take much more fighting! Izuku, for the sake of Eevee, was fully willing right there to throw in the towel. Izuku looked back at the field and saw that Walrein was losing to Hydreigon. It wouldn't be long before he set his sights on Eevee, the easy one. And yet again Izuku felt helpless.
His hearing was getting blurry at his growing stress, the roar of the crowds, the cries of the Pokémon, even the shouts from their trainers and Present Mic's play-by-play, all faded into white noise. He looked down at the injured Pokemon and couldn't bring himself to think of anything. The only thing his mind and body agreed on was to let loose the emotional turmoil that was coagulating within him, and tears drops fell onto Eevee. This also woke the Pokémon up and prompted it to look up at Izuku's crying face
The first word Eevee heard Izuku say was, "I'm sorry.", This made Eevee confused. "I'm so sorry Eevee. I shouldn't have put you up to this. You weren't ready and I was foolish. Now you're hurt and about to get cremated by Hydreigon without any mercy. I should've just forfeit before, and not put you up to this. It was too much for you, I'm sorry for that.", Eevee just looked worried at Izuku. "Don't take it like I'm disappointed in you or that I never believed in you or that I'm angry with you. If anything I feel more like that towards myself. If anything, just know that I'm... happy because of you."
Eevee looked at Izuku with a warm feeling spreading across its body. "Despite the challenge, despite the risks, despite everything being set against you. You gave it you're all! You gave it more than Plus Ultra! You're a true fighter Eevee and, and….and I couldn't be happier for you!", Izuku exclaimed to the Pokémon with the biggest smile ever and tears streaming down his face while placing a gentle hand on its body!
At Izuku's words, Eevee soon felt that same fire of mixed emotions that he saw Kirila experience not long ago! It spread through his tiny body and filled him with newfound vigor that prompted him to stand and keep on fighting through, but also to comfort and console Izuku! Through its injuries and Izuku's tears, something glowed through Eevee's neck fur.
It was a bright blue color and soon it peaked out to reveal what looked like a ribbon. The ribbon extended and snaked up and around Izuku's hand and arm, gently holding him. Izuku was confused at first, but couldn't think to wonder what was going on as Eevee suddenly stood up on its feet, looked out on the field, and cried into the battling ring! Without warning, Eevee's body began to glow a bright blue!
Meanwhile, on the other side of the ring, Hydreigon had done its job and finally took down the extremely stubborn Walrein. Gar announced the Pokémon's defeat and Todoroki's disqualification of having no more Pokemon to battle with. The crowds cheered with an astounding roar of zeal and excitement, while Bakugou laughed to himself about finally getting his revenge!
Todoroki went up to the downed Pokémon and laid a hand on its smooth head while saying, "Thank you for doing your best and for holding it as long as you did. You were amazing and I couldn't ask for anything more. I'm only sorry I couldn't help you see victory by my side."
Walrein then arches its head towards Todoroki's hand and nuzzles its wet soft nose into him affectionately. Todoroki gives a small smile at this and reruns the Pokémon. However, everyone's attention was grabbed again at the opposite end of the ring where Izuku's Eevee was now glowing!
Almost no one could believe their eyes! Not even Gar could believe it as he stated on flabbergasted until Mimikyu smacked him back to his senses! Gar shook himself back to reality and gave his two senses of what was happening.
"I don't believe it! I just really can't believe it! You must have some kind of secret Izuku, and I want to know it! I mean, two evolutions in the same battle?! I'm not sure if I'm excited or jealous!", Gar looked at the crowds and exclaimed, "Folks I hope you're seeing this, cause if you didn't the last time, now would be the time to focus! Another evolution is happening before us, and not just any evolution. An evolution from the one Pokemon of my world that can take multiple forms! And with everyone place, as is, we're either going to see an Espeon or a Sylveon!"
Eevee's body glowed until it couldn't be seen apart from a vague silhouette. Its body morphed and moved like wet clay until it finally settled on a form that stopped glowing a revealed Eevee in a drastically different appearance! Everyone gasped and whispered to one another at this and looked on at the Pokémon with wonder and confusion. Most surprisingly of all, the normally all knowledgeable, Gar looked completely stunned by the Pokémon!
In a very confused voice, he asked over the mic, "Who….is that Pokemon?"
Izuku's jaw almost dropped upon hearing his words and looked back at Eevee. He never knew Gar could be shocked about any pokémon! But something about Eevee was different from what even he knew, and Izuku wondered that as well.
Eevee, or whatever you wanted to call this new mon, was unlike any eeveelution seen before! Its body looked sleek like Vaporeon, but it looked muscular and powerful like Flareon. Its face was sharp and serious, almost looking for a fight like Jolteon. But it also had two ribbon-like feelers sprouting from the back of its head like Sylveon but made up to look like a headband or the tails on a mask. Its body was all green and its ears were long and had frilled fur. The area around its eyes, paws and the tip of its short stiff tail was black. The two feelers on the back of its head were rounded at the tips and colored black. This pokémon, this eeveelution was something….else.
Gar looked at the jumbo board, after gawking, and said, "R-Rotom, scan that Pokemon for identification."
Rotom's face appeared and after turning into a scanner-like device, his face came back and he replied, "No data found. Buzzt. A new pokémon has been discovered! Buzzt."
An audible gas escaped from everyone's lips, even Gar! The chatter of confusion and excitement rang out across the stadium as even Gar tried to wrap his head around this! Quickly regaining his senses Gar decided to be starstruck later and continue with the battle now!...or at least until after the names and catalogs it.
"Rotom, scan and record all-new data on the new eeveelution, and it's a new type.", He told the jumbo board.
After a few minutes of scanning and recording the new data, Rotom's face finally came back from its scanner mode and recounted the new information.
"Height: 3' 11". Buzzt. Weight: 90 lbs. Buzzt. Build Quadratic. Buzzt. Type: Fighting. Buzzt.", Rotom listed off.
"Fighting!?", Gar repeated the word with a shock and incredulous tone! "Never in my whole life would I have expected to see this! It's unheard of!", Gar exclaimed further. But then he calmed down as he prompted the question, "But what to name it?, After a brief moment of thinking, Gar finally said, "How about…..Brawleon!"
"I….like it. How about you, Brawleon?", Izuku asked the Pokémon still holding his hand with its feeler.
Brawleon looked back at Izuku and barked its acceptance. Izuku smiled at Brawleon, then at Gar, who stated, "Brawleon it is!"
"Brawleon's data has been uploaded to dex entries! Buzzt.", Rotom said while putting a pic of the new pokémon under Izuku. "Brawleon has learned a new move. Buzzt."
"New move?", Izuku questions.
The board then pulls up a list of Brawleon's moves and shows that it had replaced Quick Attack with Focus Blast. Izuku marvels at this new move and sees that during evolution, his HP increased back to yellow, filling him with hope and determination.
"Then without further ado, let the battle recommence!", Gar announced!
"It doesn't fucking matter if your shitty dog fox got a new lame paint job, my dragon is still going to annihilate that fucker in one hit!", Bakugou proclaimed boldly and angrily while Hydreigon roared with him! "Fuck it up with Draco Meteor!", Bakugou yelled!
Hydreigon charged up the power in its mouths and shit them into the sky where they rained down!
Izuku acted quickly with new determination and shouted, "Brawleon, dodge it!"
Then with surprisingly lightning speed, especially for a Pokemon so big, he dashed off into the ring, easily dodging every meteor that tried to crash into him! At the end of the assault, Brawleon came out completely unscathed and stared down Hydreigon in pure defiance, much to both Bakugou and Hydreigon's shared anger and surprise.
"Hit it back with Swift!", Izuku cried!
The feelers on the Pokémon glowed brightly and bent them in towards itself before whipping them out and generating several stars that chased after Hydreigon! The Pokémon tried to escape but the stars just kept pursuing until they all finally hit Hydreigon! Causing it to fall to the ground!
"Now use Crunch!", Izuku commands as Brawleon races towards the downed Pokemon!
Brawleon then crashes into Hydreigon with its teeth and bites down hard on the Pokémon main head! Causing me to roar out in pain! The impact also causes the Pokémon to fall onto its back! Both Izuku and Bakugou were shocked by Brawleon's sudden shift of strength and power and looked on with awe and shock!
Bakugou shook his senses back to him and he shouted, "Burn that rat alive with Flamethrower!"
Hydreigon threw Brawleon off its head and then pointed all three of its heads at it while preparing to shoot hot flames at it!
Izuku reacts just as fast and shouts, "Use Triple Kick to block the attack!"
Brawleon then thrusts itself up by one of its feelers and then hits all three of Hydreigon's heads with three of its four limbs, causing the dragon's heads to be forcefully thrust into the opposite direction! Where the flames only hit nothing but air!
Bakugou growled and yelled, "Kill it with Hyper Beam!"
"Counter with Focus Blast!", Izuku commands.
Both Pokémon obey and shoot out their respective attack at one another from near point-blank range! Though oddly enough, Focus Blast seems to cut through Hyper Beam like a knife! From there, the two pokémon move away before the impending explosion! The attacks explode and cause a huge black cloud to form!
Both pokémon stood back, unsure of what to do next. Until Bakugou growled and yelled, "Don't just sit there with your extra heads up your ass! Fly away and get some distance, then let that fucker with Draco Meteor!"
Hydreigon then dashed out of the cloud on its 6 wings and took to the sky, reading its next attack.
Izuku then followed up saying, "Don't let it get away! Grab hold of it!"
Brawleon did as he was told and shot out its feelers to a ridiculous length that quickly wrapped around its tail and a pseudo leg! The Pokémon was soon lifted into the air with the dragon and Bakugou quickly switched attack gears!
"Hit it with Dual Wingbeat!", He yelled, making the dragon attempt to attack.
But just like the last time this happened, Izuku commands, "Counter with Triple Kick!", And Brawleon pulls itself up to the dragon's heads and kicks all three! Bakugou stamped on the ground with fury, completely unable to think of a way to counter!
Which Izuku took advantage of and shouted, "Brawleon, grab hold of Hydreigon's wings and use its weight to spin!"
Brawleon let go of its grip on Hydreigon's tail and leg, and switched to its wings with smooth and swift movement! Then as they fell, Brawleon used the opposing Pokémons weight against it, causing the two to spin in mid-air! They both spin faster and faster and faster and faster until they looked like a blurry wheel! Just looking at it made Gar dizzy and nauseated.
They both fell with increasing speed and just before they hit the ground, Izuku said, "Now throw it!"
Brawleon let out a loud war cry and then threw the huge and very dizzy dragon with all its might straight at the ground! Hydreigon sailed towards the ground for less than a second and then impacted with such force that the very ground under Izuku and Bakugou shook violently! Even Gar felt it from where he stood!
A huge dust cloud appears from the Pokémon and Brawleon falls towards it! Just when Izuku thought it was the end, all three of Hydreigon's heads appear out of the dust and look extra pissed! And unfortunately for Brawleon, it couldn't change its direction in the air!
Bakugou Saw this and took full advantage of it, commanding Hydreigon, "Kill it with Hyper Beam!"
Hydreigon just sat there and charged up its attack and watched with glee as Brawleon fell to its doom! But Izuku was still filled with hope, determination, Plus Ultra, and a plan.
He then shouted to his pokémon, "Brawleon! Grab hold of Hydreigon's other mouth and land on its main mouth!"
Brawleon seemed confused by this for a moment, but seeing as it had very few options, he did as he was told. He grabbed the extra heads with his feelers by the mouths and clamped them shut! Then using it as leverage he landed right over the open jaw of the dragon!
Izuku then followed up saying, "Now shoot Focus Blast into its mouth and follow up with Triple Kick!"
Brawleon says Izuku's plan now! His crazy plan, but plan no less! He then created the sphere of Focus energy and then blasted it straight into the dragon's open mouth! Then before Hydreigon could fire or chock it out, Brawleon slammed its foot on its head! The fist kick nearly caused the dragon to fall to its stomach. The second strike made it fall to its stomach and nearly clamp its mouth. And the third kick not only held its head on the ground but caused its mouth to be held closed!
Brawley held the dragon's mouth down with its back foot and watched from over its shoulder as an explosion erupted from within the Pokemon! After a brief moment of silence, Hydreigon stopped struggling as its body went limp, smoke emitted from its lips and nostrils on all three heads, and swirls appeared in its eyes. The jumbo board ticks down the last of the HP and sounds off the buzzer at the dragon's defeat.
Gar motions to Hydreigon and announces, "Hydreigon is unable to battle. Which means the winners are Izuku with Brawleon!"
The crowd erupts into explosive cheers at the announcement, while Izuku stands there starstruck for over several seconds still absorbing what had just happened.
After he finally came back to his senses he said to himself in disbelief, "We won?", Then it finally clicked for him and he shouted with excitement, "We Won! We Won! We Won!"
Brawley barked excitedly and immediately ran up to Izuku, jumped into his arms, and began to rub and lick him all over his face while wrapping him with his feelers!
As he was laughing and cheering he said to the Pokemon, "We did it Brawleon! We did it! We won!", Brawleon responded by barking happily and then continuing to lick him!
As the crowds cheered for the winner, Bakugou had only enough sense to return Hydreigon before he dropped to his knees, dropped the Pokeball, and fell onto his hands while looking down at the ground in disbelief.
"He won.", Bakugou repeated the phrase like it was blasphemous. "He…..he won….he won. How? It-it-it doesn't make sense?", Bakugou said to himself.
His body felt ill as this realization washed over him. He felt hot and sticky, gross sticky. He felt like his stomach was churning and was ready to vomit. Yet at the same time, he felt like his lungs were closing up like he couldn't breathe. Back with the slime villain. He couldn't even bring himself to move, he felt like he was going to faint!
While Izuku was laughing and cheering for his victory, he saw Bakugou on the ground in what he thought was defeat. But he could tell it was something else. He wanted to go over there and console him, offer his hands, and see if he was alright. He felt his hand move out almost on instinct, but he stopped. He realized what would happen if he did, and he remembered his talk with Gar.
'He's not trustworthy….he's not your friend….he doesn't deserve anything from you….Katsuki it's deserving of your forgiveness.', Gar's voice rang in his head.
Izuku put his hand down and forced his view away from Bakugou. Brawley senses his distress and begins to rub against his face again, getting the green boy's attention and making him smile. At the same time, Gar walks off the podium and over to Izuku.
He catches his surprise as he places both hands on his shoulders and says, "Izuku. I'm am so very very very...ecstatic about that battle!", he exclaimed, making Izuku jump from surprise! "I've never seen such battling before! Especially from the Rockies no less! The adrenaline! The power! Everything! I'm just tingling all over!"
Gar then looked towards the other three trainers and said, "And that goes for the rest of you three as well. Even though you lost, you all put on an amazing performance and handled your pokemon like no other rookies I've seen before! You all should feel very proud of yourselves!"
He then turned back to Izuku and told him, "But this is really about you, Izuku. Our winner. Not only have you demonstrated acute awareness and knowledge of pokemon, but also skill in handling them. Although admittedly rocky at the start you pulled through in the end by the one thing that separates good trainers from great ones.", Izuku looked at Gar inquisitively for his statement. "Your relationship and bond. In battling a pokemon's true strength comes from its bond with its trainer. And even with such a short time spent with your team, you managed to form a unique bond that even I have never seen before. Evolving not one, but two pokemon mid-battle in addition to discovering a new eeveelution! For these facts alone I cannot express in words how happy I am at seeing such a promise! If you were in my world, you'd have the making of a champion such as I.", Izuku couldn't help giving the biggest, giddiest, and darkest smile his face made.
"However.", Gar put forth, making Izuku confused and somewhat uncomfortable. Even the crowd by his sudden shift of tone during such a celebration. "Although you have won this battle, you haven't seized the war. So to speak.", Gar told him while walking back to the umpire stand, making Izuku more confused. "No, this is only the first half of the battle. The next part will be something much harder. Think of it as a….boss battle of sorts.", Gar told him while taking the stand and looking down on Izuku.
"So with that in mind, I ask you Izuku. Do you wish to continue forward?", Gar asked from above, sounding like a true authority. "This is completely up to you. Do you wish to test your skills further and claim the title of a true pokemon trainer? Or do you simply wish to take the victory you have and leave it there? It's up to you.", he prompted Izuku and then waited for his answer.
With this option to him, Izuku didn't know what to choose. He could stay and try his luck once more in battle and get demolished by a force stronger than before...whatever that was. Or he could leave and feel satisfied with what he had accomplished. He raked his brain for an answer but only felt himself continuing in a spiral. That is until he looked at Brawleon who gave him a determined expression on his face and barked. Even though he couldn't understand his pokemon, he could tell what it wanted, and what he wanted was the answer Izuku should've thought of before. Plus Ultra!
He looked back up at Gar and proclaimed, "Yes! I do wanna go further!"
"Well then folks I hope you're ready, cause after a brief intermission we will have another Pokemon Battle!", Gar announced to the people who cheered with excitement. He then looked down at Izuku again and told him, "Now I warn you izuku, this next battle will not be like the one you were just in. So I hope you can stand to a new level of intensity."
Izuku nodded his head and exclaimed, "I'm ready!"
Gar chuckled at him and said back, "Not in your current state you're not."
Izuku looked down and realized that the only pokemon he did have was his injured Brawleon. His sweatdropped at this and chuckled dryly.
Gar chuckled again and said, "Don't worry, well get your pokemon healed up and with a few more...extra bits at your disposal."
Izuku looked at Gar in the confusion of his statement until several pokemon brought out a few items and placed them on a table provided by Cementoss. The first one had the same Pokeball randomizer, the second table was filled with two cases that had dozens of DVD-like objects striking out, and the third had three weird-looking bracelets.
Gar motion to the items and says, "Before you stand three items I employ you to use to your advantage. The first is the Pokeball randomizer. You will be given one extra pokemon to use in this next battle. The next is every available TM and HM I have ever collected. Use them to change the move pool on your team to fit your preference, by simply placing the button of the Pokeball into the opening of the disc and your pokemon will learn that move if it's capable."
'So that's how that works.', Izuku thought in his mind.
"And finally you have the choice of one of three different bands to aid you in battle. The Dynamax Band, capable of increasing the size and stats of your pokemon to Gigantic proportions for three turns. The Mega Band, capable of mega-evolving two of your four current pokemon that can mega evolve. And finally, we have the Z-Ring, capable of allowing a pokemon to use a move with the corresponding crystal to make a super move for only one turn!", Gar list off the last table as the crowds awed. "So take what you need. Rest up your pokemon. Prepare yourself. And get ready for the final battle! Cause you're gonna need it.", Gar told him with a mysterious tone as the crowds cheered with excitement!
Izuku grabbed another Pokeball from the randomizer, grabbed the two Disc holders, and contemplated for a moment before grabbing the Mega Band and one of the Mega stones for one of his pokemon. He walked off the field with the crowd cheering and congratulating him as he passed. He walked into the stadium, up to the nurse's office, and dropped his pokemon off to be healed. He then sat down and took out his notebook to strategize. From the way Gar sounded, he needed to be on his top game for this next fight...with whatever or whoever it was. And he wasn't going to let himself down, not again! He was going to overcome and reach the top or give everything he had on the climb! He would go Plus Ultra!
Hey everyone, it's me again. So sorry this chapter took so long to get out, but a lot of shit has just been happening IRL. If it's not family or appointment or health, it's my job, the classes I have to take for my job. My dog, my general drive, or some combination. But luckily I have my last week of classes (thank God for that!)
Work hasn't been kicking my butt too hard, and I have a general pace for my daily schedule. But the other reason for my tardiness was mostly due to the writer's fatigue. I started this chapter, then stopped, then started again, then stopped again, blah blah blah you get the picture. So I wanted to write another story to push my drive for this one, and it worked. I got this chapter done and I have several chapters typed out for another story. Which I'll upload alongside this one. So keep your eyes peeled for that.
