Pokémon Trainer Hero

Chapter 96: Teacher for the Day…right?

"Good morning Gar.", Izuku called out as he ran up to the young man walking to class.

"Good morning Izuku. Nice day isn't it?", Gar says back.

But he brushes off the question and asks him, "Yay, hey listen can I ask you about something?"

"Shoot?", Gar accepts while stopping his walk.

"Back at the Final Exam…why did you keep taking Bakugou with us? He wouldn't have helped us out.", Izuku asks him.

"True, but it is the right thing in the end. No man left behind and all.", Gar answered.

"I guess.", Izuku shrugged while looking off.

Gar sighs slightly at his response and tells him, "Even if it were something he would or wouldn't do, doing or not doing it would make you no better than him, right?", Izuku opens his mouth to answer, but closes it and thinks to himself. "I'm not saying to treat him with contempt or malicious intent, otherwise you're just copying him. If I could give you any advice I would suggest for right now, until you get your feelings sorted about him, you just ignore him and only interact if you are needed to. Apart from that, have nothing to do with him.", Gar informs and offers it to him.

After thinking it over in his head he inwardly sighs and answers, "Okay."

"We didn't get a chance to sort out ourselves yesterday. Want to try today?", Gar offers as he starts his walk again and then admits, "I'm not the best with this sort of thing, so maybe we should have a third person to listen in, perhaps another adult?"

"Like All Might?", Izuku offers with a hint of excitement.

Fae stops his walk, stares at him, and asks back, "Really?"

"Yeah, you're right. That's a dumb idea.", Izuku awkwardly laughs while sweating. He then thinks for a bit as they walk again and offers, "How about Hound Dog? He's the school guidance counselor."

"He doesn't like me." Gar sweat drops whole remembering all the times the dog man growled or barked at him. "How about Cementoss? I talk to him a lot. He's a great listener and usually has some good advice.", Gar offers.

Izuku raises an eyebrow and says back, "I never thought of Cementoss Sensei like that."

"You'd be surprised by the quiet people.", Gar chuckled with a knowing smile as they made their way to the classroom door and the young man snorted, "I wonder what Shota has in store for us?"

Just as he walked into the class with his friend, Shota wasted no time in letting the young man in on what he was up to.

"Gar, glad you are here.", Aizawa said as he was standing right in front of the door, making Gar and Izuku jump.

After calming down he asked back, "You are?"

Aizawa then forcefully pushed him into the room and up to the podium where he told him, "Here. Take the reins for the rest of the day."

"Wait what?", Gar asked, confused and unable to process what just happened.

"I gotta go and do something. I'll be back after lunch, to make sure they don't break anything or fight. Bye.", Aizawa said quickly as he left the room with a second word.

Once his brain processed what was happening, he shook himself out of his haze and yelled, "Wait! Hold on a second! Shota!", He ran to the door, threw them open, and yelled down the empty hallway, "I don't know how to run a classroom full of teenagers! I can't handle kids! I'm only twenty and I've forgotten what it's like to be one!", Seeing that Aizawa wasn't there, he turned back to the room of teens and walked back to the podium and nervously said, "Well…um…"

Suddenly someone in the room shouted, "Riot!", And all hell broke loose in 1-A.

But the insanity of the room didn't last long as the last nerve Gar had that day finally broke and throwing out a Pokeball where an Exploud came out he yelled through its tube-like tail, "SIT DOWN!", The noise that was produced from the Pokemon was so loud it shook the whole school and in a matter of seconds the whole class was back in their proper seats and eerily quiet. After sighing in relief, Gar said to them, "Better. Now then, just because your lazy excuse of a homeroom teacher is out, doesn't mean any of you can go Sawsbuck wild."

He told them as he marched back and forth like a drill instructor at the front of the class before continuing to admit, "As I said to Shota before he dropped all of you into my lap, I have no idea how to run a classroom or how to teach whatever you guys are learning. I'm a Pokemon trainer for Arecus' sake! I can't teach hero stuff."

"Then don't.", Izuku offered, making everyone look at him as he explained further, "Until Aizawa Sensi gets back, teach us the basics of your forte."

Gar's eyes lit up with a bright smile and he exclaimed in excitement, "That's genius! Okay, little people, that's what we're gonna do today!", He then took a chalk stick and began to scribble on the board fasters than the naked eye while saying, "But don't worry we'll be going over the basic basics. Today we'll be learning about Pokemon Typings."

Just before they started with an impromptu lesson and asked the class, "By the way, has any seen Katsuki?"

The class looked around the room and at one another trying to figure out where their normally punctual class member was. That is until they heard what sounded like Bakugou himself screaming and running down the hallway! Everyone's hair stood on end as they heard the sounds of what seemed to be bloody horror coming closer and closer until the man of the hour came in screaming in fright and nearly giving everyone a heart attack! He ran through the doors nearly blasted down and jumped up on the podium in a panic!

"Katsuki!? What's wrong?!", Gar exclaimed in panic.

"Get it away from me! It keeps chasing and mocking me!", Bakugou yells while pointing at the door.

"Who?", He asks while getting into a battle stance with Exploud.

Just then something with a shrill voice screams down the empty hallway and after a few minutes, a very familiar Pokemon walks into the room and continues to scream even louder upon seeing Bakugou standing on top of the podium. He walks in and circles the boy like a hungry shark while shrieking and enjoying the view of Bakugou panicking and screaming back!

Gar just looks at the sight with a neutral expression of disbelief as he says, "Are you serious? That's just Chadot."

"He's been chasing me ever since I got here!", Bakugou shouted at him as his eyes well up with tears, making Chadot scream louder while flapping his wings.

Gar rolls his eyes as he marched over and grabbed the small parrot in his hands while telling him, "Correction. You've been letting him chase you. You can't just run and scream like a grown man who just got his ears ripped off when he does that. It just encourages that bad behavior."

"Then why does he do it!?", Bakugou demands.

"Because it's funny to him.", Gar answered simply. Making Chadot laugh as he was placed on Gar's shoulder. "Now go sit in your seat. I'll hold the screamer. The class just started.", Gar tried to shoot the boy off the podium.

Jumping down from the object, he demands challengingly, "Who died and let you in charge!?"

"Aizawa Sensei.", Kaminari tells him, making Bakugou do a double take. Truly believing their teacher died. Until the electric blond told him, "Minus the dead part."

Bakugou sighs and says to himself while walking to his seat, "At least there aren't any other Parrot Pokemon."

As he passes Izuku's the boy gains a neutral expression with his eyes wide as he says aloud, "I'm gonna tell him."

Bakugou stopped in his tracks and began to break out into a cold sweat until Gar swiftly put a stop to it and said firmly, "No you won't.", Bakugou almost thanked him internally but he sat down regardless. Gar took a deep breath and then said, "Now where was I? Ah yes, Pokemon Typings."

Hours Later

"And that's why you don't fight Electric-type Pokemon over the Ocean. Lakes and rivers are fine, but not Oceans. Any questions?", Gar told the students as one of them raised their hand and he called, "Yes, Kaminari."

"Why are Psychic types weak to Ghost, Bug, and Dark types? If your brain is so big it shouldn't get hurt by those things.", The electric teen asked him while looking like he was straining his mind to comprehend.

Gar smiled and sticking out his chest he proudly informed him, "Elementary my dear boy, that all has to do with fears. Fear of the Dark, Bugs, and Ghosts."

Then Shoto raised his hand and after being called on asked, "Why does the Ice type harm Dragons but not Steel?"

"Nearly every Pokemon in the Dragon type category is inherently cold-blooded. The colder you go…you get it. As for steel, it's more of an equal trade-off, while knights of the past fought dragons and killed them with forged steel, they were killed by dragons just as easily. Hence they resisted one another equally.", Gar answered.

Tokoyami raised his hand and inquired, "How do Dark types hurt Ghosts? Didn't you say the Dark type was just dirty fighting?"

"Indeed, however, there is an element of magic to it. And only dark and underhanded forces can harm the spirits of the dead. And of course, the spirits can harm the wicked and cruel.", Gar tells him as the bird boy stews this thought process in his mind.

"Can you tell us about one of your inner-dimensional travels? You said you've been around.", Iida asked with his hand up.

Gar's eyes widened at this and he takes a baffled disposition as he says in an excited mess, "Wow! Okay, that's a good question. Im not even sure where to start. Um…how about I tell you of a unique person I meet on my travels through space and time."

Everyone leaned in at this and all eyes were filled with excitement and wonder if this mystery person until Mina asked, "Did you kiss them?"

"No.", Gar asked back quickly.

"Did you fu-?", Mineta tried to ask, only to get cut off even quicker.

"No! No! Nothing like that. We were friends, nothing else.", Gar making everyone give him a slick look, making him sweat drop at their teenage approach to the answer. After sighing in exasperation he told them, "Her name was Geneevee or Gen as everyone called her. And let me tell ya she was a real character that one! Never laughed more in the face of danger in my whole life!", He laughed to himself with a truly warm smile before continuing to tell them, "I could be here for hours telling you about the stuff we got up to and all the crazy adventures we had! I'll spare the details but the one thing that stood out to me in our time together was that her Pokemon could talk."

"Like Clefairy of Team Freak?", Kirishima asks.

Gar nods and confirms, "Yes. All of them could talk, I never thought I could have so much fun chewing the fat with a Stunfisk.", He then got a melancholy expression on his face as he leaned on the podium and looked out the window while saying whimsically, "But we had to part ways. I needed to go to my world and she needed to do something to keep the expensive and extremely fragile linear space-time continuum in balance. I miss her. I hope I can see her again someday."

Before he could reminisce for any longer, the announcement speakers blared to life and the voice of Nezu announced, "Garfield, can you please come to my office at once."

Gar sighs as he stands up and tells them with a snicker, "Okay everyone go ahead and silently mingle with each other while I'll see what the Ratata wants."

"I heard that!", Nezu yelled over the speaker.

Nezu's Office

A few minutes later and Gar walks into the Principal's office looking curious as to what the animal wanted from him. Once inside he saw that nearly the entire staff was with him and focusing on the principal he asked, "Okay, Nezu, what do you need? I need to wait for Shota to get back so…I…can…"

He trailed off as his eyes fell on the man in question, swaddled up in his sleeping bed in a chair. He sits up a bit before asking, "So you can do what?"

Gar rushed over to him in a blink, grabbed him up to his eye level, and exclaimed in a half yell, "Give you a piece of my mind through this Exploud! What were you thinking?! Leaving me of all people in charge of a bunch of horny sweaty itchy adolescents!", As he said this, Exploud let loose a cry that shook the whole room and Chadot shrieked at him.

"He's got a point.", Midnight agrees.

"Calm down Garfield, it was my idea.", Nezu told him.

Stopping his shaking of the bagged man, Gar looked at the animal and asked, "I beg your pardon?"

"I told Shota to leave class 1-A in your care.", Nezu explained.

Dropping the man on the floor as he trudged over to him and leaning over the desk and asked in an unamused tone, "Okay, I'll bite. Why?"

"To test you.", He answers.

"Test me?"

"To see if you'd make a good teacher.", Nezu explained a bit more.

Gar blinks a few times before shaking his head and questioning, "Me? A teacher? Are you Seedot nuts? I can't be a teacher. I have no qualifications or anything. Plus, what would I teach? You have just about every avenue covered."

"I don't have a teaching certification.", Aizawa admitted.

"I expected that.", Gar huffed while looking down at him as he lay on the floor.

"Neither do I.", Present Mic admitted.

Gar blinks at him and says, "Okay, you-I'm a little surprised about it."

"Me either.", Midnight admits.

"Seriously?", He asks as nearly the entirety of UA staff admits to having no certifications in teaching. After absorbing all of this, Gar wipes his face across his hands, and looking down at Nezu he asks in a small voice, "Okay, be straight with me Nezu, are you running a school or a looney bin?"

"This is a hero school, not a regular school.", Nezu tells him as if it is a valid answer.

Slapping his thighs he opens his arms and exclaims, "Does anyone here have a teaching certification!?", Of the fee that raised their hands, Cementoss and Ectoplasm were one of them. Gar sighed and told them, "My faith in you has doubled."

"As for what you'd teach, there's one specific subject that hasn't been breached.", Nezu answered his second question vaguely.

"What?", Gar questions.

"Pokemon 101!", Nezu exclaimed in excitement.

"Really?", Gar asked back before babbling out baffled, "I…but why?"

Nezu puts away his cheerful demeanor and tightening his paws he says, "We need it as you can see the world has changed drastically with all the Pokemon running about. And you're the only one that can guide any of us. You've already helped the Police, now these young heroes need help to combat an issue no one has faced. Will you accept?"

Gar gives him a half smile and replied, "Guess I have no choice but to say yes, but…"

"Let me guess, your friend Photo Finished?", Nezu inquired as Gar gave him an exasperated nod. Nezu smiles and informs him, "Not to worry, I've told her of this argument and she loves the fact you're taking steps to teach the next generation of young heroes."

Gar's face lights up at this and Aizawa comments in a tired tone, "So you got your wish of being out of the direct limelight."

"Oh Nezu I could kiss you!", Gar says excitedly while picking him up. Nezu perks up his ears at this and Gar quickly backtracks, dropping the animal as he says, "But I'm not."

After this a thought crossed his mind and he asked his new boss, "Wait, will I also be getting-?"

"Yes, I will give you a salary.", Nezu cuts him off, already knowing that a question like that would come up.

He pumps his fists into the air and he exclaimed happily, "Yes! No more allowance!"

"You gave him an allowance?", All Might asked the animal.

Nezu looks at him., alongside the rest of the skeptical staff, and tells them, "What did you expect me to do? Pay someone for nothing. This is a job site, not a charity case."
