The Doctor had gone to save the past me falling from the Sycorax ship while I visited Mum.
She was livid when she found out I had been kidnapped.
"I think I've dealt with them."
"And the Doctor, where was he during all this?"
"He came to save me. If he hadn't I would have never remembered who I was. I would have just been their personal battery." I looked at Jackie, "He paid for it too. When you next see him, he'll look different. He kind of died for me, so don't go hitting him when he comes back."
"What about me?" Jack strode in, a bandage wrapped around his head although he didn't need it. I think he liked how mum had been fussing over him when he came back from rescuing me. "He only barely died once, I.."
I let out a fake exaggerated sigh before standing on my tiptoes to kiss him on the cheek, "Thank you CJ."
"Now let's get you some tea." Mum bustled to the kitchen, "I made your favourite biscuits, Jack."
I looked after my mum before turning towards CJ and sitting on our couch. "So what's your plan?"
"I think I'll travel a bit. I've got some places I'd like to go before the Doctor takes away my ability to travel through time."
I laughed, "I think you'll probably meet past me then."
Jack smiled, "My thoughts exactly. There's something I need to investigate."
When the Doctor came back a changed man, mum insisted that Mickey travel along with us.
"You obviously need another pair of eyes on Rose. Keep her as safe as you can, Doctor."
"Of course, Jackie."
He was more humble than the TV show of 10, but of course my Doctor had regenerated later than other timelines did.
Mickey came in with a backpack and a duffle, "I'm all packed when are we setting off."
I looked to my mum, "You are sure you want to stay here alone."
Jackie Tyler stood tall, "I would prefer to keep both feet on the ground." She placed a hand on mine, patting it. "Just make sure to check in with me at the end of each grand adventure, so I know you are well. And if you can't have Mickey call me, got it?"
I smiled and nodded.
When we reached the next destination, Mickey was the first to run out of Sexy.
"Aw man another spaceship!"
I laughed as I came out looking at the seemingly barren ship.
"We'll try for a planet next time, Mickey."
I looked around, "It looks abandoned but…" I closed my eyes and looked behind the door that glowed in my mind's eye, "It isn't quite."
"Danger, Rose Tyler?"
I looked over my shoulder at the Doctor before looking back in my brother's direction.
"Mickey, you might want to sit this one out."
"Don't tell me there's big space rodents again!"
He shrunk back towards the TARDIS only looking relieved when I shook my head. He scoffed, "It's not as if I can't survive almost anything that comes my way."
"This one might be a tad bit iffy."
Mickey bounced on his toes, "Just a quick peek, please."
I sighed, "Fine, but if I tell you to run…"
"I'll run."
The Doctor flipped a couple switches and a skylight opened above our heads showing off beautiful magenta and royal purple star cloud-like formations.
"Mickey, welcome to 3000 years into your future, the 51st century." The Doctor gazed up at the stars, "Oh, the Dagmar Cluster. You are a long way from home, two and half galaxies away."
"It's gorgeous." The galaxies above my head twinkled in the darkness of space as if winking down at us.
The Doctor looked to my brother,
"How is it Mickey? Spacey enough for you."
Mickey nodded his features reflecting the light from above, filled with awe.
"Rose, you said it wasn't completely abandoned, right? There's been a ton of repair work going on."
"I would check their scans Doctor, you'll find something interesting."
"The warp engines are going full power." He looked at the screen, leaning over the machinery, "There's enough power running through this ship to punch a hole in the universe and we are not moving. Where is the crew?"
A metal door slid open, we all looked up to see an 18th century fireplace with its fire burning.
I smiled walking straight over before kneeling before the flame.
"Now that's not something you see everyday…" The Doctor walked over, his fingertips brushing over the golden filigree.
I looked through the otherside of the fireplace to see a girl perhaps 10 or 11 kneeling in her nightgown, eyes wide and curious.
"Bonjour my name is Rose. What's yours?"
"Reinette mademoiselle, what are you doing in my fireplace?"
I chuckled, "My answer would be quite complicated."
"I'm ever so clever."
"I imagine you are. Would you believe me if I told you I was speaking from the future from a fireplace on a vessel that travels the stars."
"It is quite unbelievable, but then again this is the first time I've met someone who speaks through fireplaces."
I giggled, "I would expect so."
The Doctor kneeled beside me and gave Reinette a quick hello.
"Reinette, could you tell us where you are?"
I tilted my head down, "City would be best."
"Paris."
"And the year?" The Doctor inquired.
"1727."
"Ooh, one of my favourites, August is rubbish though stay indoors. Thank you for your help." The Doctor got up.
"Are you going as well Mademoiselle?"
"Oui, just for a little while. Time passes differently here than there. So next time you see me some time will have passed. Bon nuit, Reinette."
I stood.
"Well I wasn't expecting that," Mickey looked back at the fireplace. "You said this ship was in the 51st century?"
The Doctor eyed the fireplace before looking back at the ship's machinery, "I also said the ship was generating enough power to punch a hole in the universe, I think we just saw the hole. Must be a spatio-temporal hyperlink."
"What's that?" Mickey tilted his head to the side.
The Doctor rubbed the back of his neck and almost sheepish grin upon his lips, "Fancy made-up words for 'magic door'."
While the boys talked I went back to the fireplace and searched for the secret door trigger.
"Rose what are you doing?"
I winked at the Doctor and Mickey.
"See you in a bit boys."
I felt a click and the whole fireplace turned.
Suddenly I was in a bedroom of young Reinette, in Paris 1727.
