Let's do this.

The silk stretched with nary a sound as the large beast crawled across it. Each line of thread drew taught from the weight of the large arachnid, shivering slightly as it took each step.

Nests were hard for larger species of magical spiders. Their silk was strong, yes. But they were still far heavier than average. With the largest of acromantulas weighing even with three elephants, there was a reason that they were a ground dwelling species.

Still… there were some tyes of magical arachnid that made their nests above ground, hanging them from trees, power lines, and abandoned buildings. They are rare, but also deadly enough that only one madman was crazy enough to seek them out and learn their behaviors.

And Newt Scamander did not return from that adventure unscathed.

The large beast slowed down as it found its target, hanging over a single cabin, within which slumbered a young red haired wizard. With a slight wiggle of its rear legs, it flipped over and dangled, using the specilized spinnaretts on the ends of each appendage to gracefully lower itself down… down… down… onto the rooftop of the lodging.

Right atop where it would find its prey.

Ron tossed and turned in his sleep, trying to keep comfortable on the flat wooden floor of the cabin.

"Mum… don't do it mum…"

A soft thump came from the cabin roof, but it did little to wake the boy. His spider companion, however, was instantly dragged from her light slumber.

"Whisperer… Whisperer!"

The boy didn't respond. He continued to toss and turn on the floor, mumbling about his mother.

"You must wake! You must wake!"

Still no response. Nib shook in fear. She could feel the beast outside, stalking them… waiting for them.

"Whisperer!"

Nib saw a light flicker through the window, casting a large shadow through the room as something scuttled down to the ground.

"I am sorry for this… but you must wake!" Nib crawled atop the boys arm as it fell beside her. Her bite wouldn't be fatal, but it would hurt. Hopefully enough to wake him.

As her fangs pierced his skin, her hopes were satisfied. The boy leapt up with a yowl, clutching the spot where he had been bitted.

"Ah! Nib! What did you do that for?"

"We must leave whisperer. We must flee this place!"

The boy stared as nib spoke, as if waiting for an answer.

"Come on whisperer! We must leave!"

"So you're just going to bite me and say nothing?" Ron huffed. "What is the matter with you?"

Nib scurried around in his hand, a number of not so pretty words spilling from her mandibles. The redhead was bout to go back to sleep, when she let out a chirp and a screech.

"You-why can't I hear you?" Ron shot up, immediately going to Nib. "Nib, come on. Say something. Anything!"

Another chirp rang from the spiders mouth, causing Ron's face to turn white. "What the hell is going on…"

His question was answered by a series of scrabbles and thumps from outside the cabin, which made the small spider in his hand quake.

"There's something out there, isn't there." Ron spoke lowly. His hand grabbed his wand on instinct, calming at the blossoming warmth that it spread through his fingertips. "Lumos."

Nothing happened.

Rons eyes widened in horror as he tried again. Then again. Nib let out a shriek as a crunch came from outside the cabin door.

"A-a-alright. Stay on my shoulder, okay?"

Setting the spider right on his collar, Ron pocketed his wand, before getting ready to run. "It's going to come through… I'll get past it."

One minute passed. Then a second. Ron was beginning to believe that whatever was there had left,

Then the front end of the cabin was ripped off.

Standing there was a spider, roughly the size of a baby goat. It gave a few hisses and clicks as it triumphntly threw the piece of wall away.

One second was all Ron needed. As it turned, he ran.

He ran past its gleaming bald body, almost stopping to marvel over its horrifying sleek black exskeleton. He had never seen a spider like this before.

Ron could feel Nib shaking on his shoulder, so he doubled his speed as the monster let out a shriek. It's footsteps shook the ground as he made for the edge of the camp, hoping to get to the road.

A wet thwap caused him to look up. A patch of webbing was falling towards his path, so he quickly veered out of the way. The spider roared once again behind him, but he kept running.

After what seemed like forever, but was realistically mere moments, Ron found himself at the roadside.

"Keep going."

"Nib! Oh thank goodness. What is that thing?"

"They aren't supposed to exist anymore. Mother told stories about them." The spider shook. "As big as four legged furs, with a web that binds your wizardkind magic. They are hunters most vicious… with no care for the customs of the whisperers."

Ron quickly darted across the road and turned, finding that the spider beast remained at the edge of the camp. It remained staring at him, unmoving except for minor twitches of its body every now and again.

"It wants me to come back."

"Don't."

"Either that or it's waiting for me to turn." Ron sighed, before looking down. "Wait… I can hear you again."

"That you can."

"Meaning I can do magic." Ron bobbed his head. In order to confirm his suspicions, he lit the tip of his wand.

"Perfect."

"Wonderful, you can show it exactly where you are in the dark." Nib clicked.

"Don't you see?" Ron grinned, looking up at the spider. "I can kill it."

"Don't be foolish, Whisperer. You cannot kill a Djieien. They are almost immortal." The spider hissed. "The biggest reason that they are so deadly is that they hide their hearts underground. They cannot die unless it is destroyed."

"Underground, hm?" Ron looked at the camp. "What if it hid its heart amongst the bodies of its prey?"

"It would not matter. You cannot get close enough to make a difference!"

Ron sighed, pushing hair from his face. "Nib… it will kill me either way. It knew exacty where we were. It's focused on me. It will find us again."

"Then we live longer, make our way to a livingspot, where we are safe."

"And let it kill more people?" Ron asked. "I can't… I can't allow that."

"Your self righteousness will be your undoing." Nib grumbled.

"I'm already dead to my family." Ron smiled, reching down and pulling out his spare wand. "It's just the next step."

The red haired wizard locked eyes with the large spider that had its sights set upon him, and began to walk forward.

Merlot peered out from behind a thick spike of granite, watching as a bluish grey dragon crooned over its nest. "She's got eggs…"

"Or she's close to laying." Scortwit responded. "Good eye."

"That's the fifth nest we've seen. Any more to look at?"

Scortwit nodded, jotting down notes on a roll of fireproof parchment. "There are six mating pairs of shortsnout on the ridge, two of which share a nest, which is atypical. So far, we've seen that they still get along, which is good."

"Bonded mating pairs? Interesting…" Merlot nodded.

"It's not common among dragons, seeing as they are very territorial. Those that do get along have to be watched closely."

Merlot nodded, sitting down on the rocky ground. "So then… that's it?"

"Not quite. You see, most of the unpaired dragons in the area make their nests in the more dangerous areas of the ridge. They're almost impossible to get to, but they're also pretty much impossible to overfill." The man pulled out his pipe and crushed up some tobacco, before lighting it with his wand. "All except for one. He's a nasty thing, but he gets distracted with his treasure. We'll need to make sure his hoard hasn't gone out of control."

Merlot nodded. "How far away is he?"

"From here, an hours walk. Charlie and I leave him for last because he's right next to the return route. Of course, we'll have to make our way back here tomorrow to collect if it's getting out of hand."

Merlot nodded and waited for the man to finish his notes.

"Do you think Charlie Boy will be alright?"

She looked up to see her guardian's face, focused, but still worried. "I'm afraid he'll do something rash."

Merlot sighed. "At Hogwarts… his youngest brother was pretty secluded. He kept to himself, not really talking much about his family. But, his siblings seemed concerned about him. They care. Maybe losing him like this is enough to turn that against their mother."

Scortwit sighed. "I remember meeting Molly. When she was little, she was hot-headed. Found her snogging Arthur in many a corner back during my days as an apprentice… When I found Charlie, and really got to know him, I wondered where all of that fire had gone. A woman who would do anything for those she loved…"

Merlot nodded. "From what I hear, their dad is nice."

"Arthur is good at what he does. It make sme worried that there are horcruxes close enough to impact you." Scortwit nodded. "But, all we can do is keep moving."

Merlot smiled. "I think then, that Charlie will be fine. Right now, he just needs support."

Scortwit took a final drag from his pipe, before tapping it out on the ground and crushing the embers underfoot. With a smirk, he ruffled Merlot's hair.

"I think you may be right. Thank you, my girl."

Merlot felt a bit of warmth blooming in her chest as she followed the man to their next destination. Under her breath, so low that even she didn't hear it, a few words slipped out.

"No problem dad…"

Ron lunged to the side as the spider ran towards him. With a twist of his body and a flick of his wand, the threads that came from the spiders legs became rope. The spider hissed and scuttled back just as the ropes turned back into web.

"They resist and block out magic, whisperer. Can you find anything else to use?"

Ron rolled out of the way as the beast charged again. "Nothing really. There's no rocks big enough to use for anything."

"Then make them bigger."

Ron grinned. "Engorgio, wingardium leviosa!"

Pebbles in the grass grew to the size of boulders and began to float. With a quick cry of "Depulso!" They were all blasted at the Djieien.

Ron heard the screech that the spider gave and watched with a bit of disgust as it dragged itself out from the rubble. Six of its legs were bent in odd directions, and one was leaking a bubbling green ooze.

"That's just nasty."

With a screech and a roar, the spider pulled itself upwards. A series of sickening pops echoed from its body as it mended itself. Ron took it as his chance.

"Nib, did your mother tell you if the webs burn?"

"Not like normal webbing. They are like steel."

"Then not fire, perhaps acid. Of course, I don't know any acid spells…"

"Use us then, whisperer."

Ron paled. "Spiders?"

"It is your gift, master. They will heed your call."

Ron grimaced. "I can't…"

"Why not?"

"I am scared, Nib." Ron smiled. "I told you why I didn't use my gift at Hogwarts… You have shown me that it can be used for more, but it is the reason that my mother cast me away!"

"You put that behind you in order to face this beast, and now you let it hold you back once more?"

A scream tore Ron's attention away from the conversation. The Djieien was diving at him, no webs attached to it.

"It's too fast for-"

He was slammed into the ground as the spider landed atop him. Its eight eyes gleamed with glee as its hunt was completed.

Nib trembled as Ron stared at the creature, his breath quickened from the fight."

"You have already prepared for me… your blood will flow much better now."

Ron hissed as the spider bit down on his neck. With a bit of hysteric strength, he pushed the creature off of him.

"That should have killed you… It should have turned your innards to liquid." The Djieien's legs turned backwards with a crunch and its head spun around. "You are more than you seem… child."

Ron clutched his shoulder where he had been bitten, wincing as it turned from an itch to a burn. Nib scrabbled over and began using her silk to cover the bite.

"Whisperer… your hair…"

Ron blinked and touched his head, feeling nothing off. He looked around before flicking his wand at a rock and turning it to glass. His red hair… the pride of the Weasley line. It was fading to black.

"I see… so you are of more than two lifekinds then…"

Ron looked up at the spider, his eyes wide. "What?"

"My venom… the venom of my brothers and sisters. It destroys the essence of those that birth them, destroying their being and turning it once more into the primordial essence of life. It is that which I consume, the decayed energy of your soul."

Ron's face turned white. "My- my soul?"

"The memories I take from you are the most delectable sustenance one might consume… I wonder, however. My venom should be potent enough to destroy a soul such as yours. It must make you of more than two parents."

Ron shook his head. "You speak in foreign concepts to me. I have one mother and one father!"

"Your essence says otherwise. I sense a third upon you. It is she who I have not devoured… No matter. One more bite shall suffice."

Ron stumbled back as the Djieien approached. "Stay away from me."

The spider continued to approach.

"I said stay away. STAY AWA!Y Stamatíste tin proséngisí sas!"

The spider froze, its body shaking as its eyes glazed over. "Ti écheis kánei…"

Ron shook his head. "Den tha xanaskotóseis."

"Arachnes…" The spider spoke, its voice becoming hushed. "Eímai polý mikrós gia na petháno."

"Aftoí tha apofasísoun, óchi egó." Ron spoke, and the ground rumbled. Millions of spiders crawled across the nightsoaked grass, towards the Djieien that had dominated the area for so long. It tried to move, but was still frozen in place.

The screams that rose from the abandoned campground echoed for miles. Many children whose families lived in the countryside would wake up with nightmares of the event, yet still… muggle scientists deemed it a trick of the wind.

For Ronald Weasley, it was not a simple trick. The moment was as if he had been possessed, and whatever it took knocked him to the ground as the Djieien was consumed along with every one of its victims, and its heart. Hidden beneath the floor of the cabin that Ron himself had slept within…

Ron's eyes flickered as he heard the scuttle of spider legs, and he succumbed to magical exhaustion.

"Hm… it isn't bad, but it isn't good either…" Scortwit looked at the large cave that seemed to be shining with gemstones.

"So will we have to come back?"

Scortwit sighed. "We can leave it for now… but you and me will come back in a few weeks to clean it up a bit."

Merlot nodded. "Alright… will Charlie join us? Or no."

"He needs our support, which means having a few days off." Scortwit smiled. "Aaaand it means I can teach you a few fun spells that he definitely won't approve of. Whaddaya say?"

Merlot smiled. "Well I for one, would love to learn some spells that Charlie wouldn't approve of."

"Atta girl. Come on. I think I'd like me a nice, rare steak and some potatoes, how about you?"

Merlot smiled. "Lead on Dad!"

As they made their way back to the dragonlodge, Merlot could swear that Scortwit's smile was a bit brighter, even if his eyes were a bit watery.

Aha! So that sets up the full thing for Ron. There will be more information on the Djieien in this story, when Ron looks into exactly what happened between them. Of course, I will give you fair warning, the full explanation will not come until the third or fourth book.

Please leave a review, and until next time,

Adios.
