Chapter 4
The parchment where I planned to organize possible plays for the team lay untouched on my desk as my thoughts drifted toward Bella. Our conversation in the pub had left me with a confusing mix of desire and uncertainty. I couldn't deny the connection I felt, but my upbringing screamed for me to stay away. The sound of a message on my mobile phone snapped me back to reality. I bought the phone a year ago when I moved to London, mainly for internet access. Who would have thought that Muggles could create something so useful, though it would be better if there was a magical version. Can you imagine it? Googling spells whenever you need them. That would truly be great. But for now, the Muggle internet isn't too bad; it has been useful for researching more about Muggle customs and food. Back to the present, it was a message from Bella.
Hey! It's me, Bella.
Would you like to go out again? There's a new restaurant I've been wanting to try. What do you think about tomorrow night?
A smile formed on my lips despite my internal turmoil. I quickly typed a response, my heart racing as I sent the message.
Sounds great. What time?
The following night, I found myself outside a small restaurant near the Thames. Bella was already there, her face lighting up when she saw me. She looked beautiful, wearing a blue dress that hugged her body perfectly, and her hair cascaded over her shoulders.
"Hi," she greeted me with a shy smile.
"Hello," I replied, feeling the familiar flutter in my chest.
We were seated at a cozy table by the window, with the city lights reflecting off the river. The atmosphere was warm and intimate, just perfect. While we were looking at the menu, a young waitress approached our table. She was a redhead, very much like a muggle version of Ginny Weasley but about 25 years old. Her eyes lingered on me.
"Good evening," she said with a voice a bit too cheerful. "Can I get you something to drink?"
I ordered a bottle of wine, and Bella nodded in agreement. The waitress lingered, her gaze fixed on me. "If you need anything else, don't hesitate to ask," she said with a smile.
Bella frowned at the waitress, obviously annoyed by her flirting. Honestly, she looked adorable being upset. When the waitress left, I reached across the table and took her hand. "Don't worry about her," I said softly. "You're the only one I'm interested in."
Bella's discomfort faded, replaced by a warm blush. "I'm glad to hear that," she said, squeezing my hand.
As we waited for our wine, Bella began to talk about her life in London. She shared stories about her university friends, their adventures, and how much she liked the English program. I listened attentively, captivated by her passion and determination. I wish I could see the world like that, with such purity and beauty.
"Sometimes it's been difficult," Bella admitted, "but I've met some incredible people. My friend and flatmate Laura is always there to cheer me up, and Ann is the best study partner I could ask for."
I smiled and said, "It sounds like your first year in London has been a success."
Bella nodded. "It seems so. What about you?" then she said cautiously "Last time you mentioned that your family is complicated. I'd love to learn more about them if you're comfortable sharing."
I hesitated, familiar discomfort creeping in. I took a sip of my wine, gathering my thoughts. "My family... they're very traditional. We've had our differences, especially about what I want to do with my life."
Bella's eyes softened with understanding. "It must be difficult trying to find your own path."
"It is," I admitted. "But I feel like I'm finally getting there."
The waitress returned with our meals, flashing another smile at me as she set down the plates. Bella noticed but chose to focus on our conversation.
As we ate, the conversation flowed easily. We shared more about our interests, our dreams, and our pasts. Though it was hard to open up without disclosing the real me, with magic, darkness and everything, the connection between us grew stronger with each passing moment. I felt guilty though, and worried. Will she think worse of me when she knows the truth?
What am I talking about? She can't know.
Anyways, after dinner, we decided to take a walk along the riverbank. The night was cool, and the city was alive with the sounds of people and traffic.
I couldn't stop thinking about what I should or shouldn't do.
"What's on your mind?" She asked. I looked into her eyes and saw the concern in them.
"Bella," I began, my voice wavering. "This... us... it's complicated for me."
She stopped. "What do you mean?"
I took a deep breath, struggling to find the right words. I wanted to say what I needed to say, but without revealing too much of the truth.
"I was raised in a world very different from yours. My family, my friends... they wouldn't understand this. They wouldn't accept it."
Bella's expression softened. "I understand, Draco. But we don't have to worry about them right now. It's just us."
Her words sent a wave of relief through me, and I found myself moving closer. "Just us," I repeated, my voice barely a whisper.
Before I could reconsider, I leaned in and pressed my lips against hers. The kiss was tentative at first, but as Bella responded, it deepened, filling me with a warmth I hadn't felt before. My hands found her waist, pulling her closer as we lost ourselves in the moment.
When we finally parted, we were both breathless. Bella looked up at me, her eyes shining. "I've wanted to do that since I met you," she admitted with a shy smile.
I chuckled softly, my forehead resting against hers. "So do I"
We continued our walk, hand in hand, the world around us fading away. For now, it was just us, and that was all that mattered.
As we walked, we talked about our dreams. She wanted to be a doctor of English literature, and dreams of one day teaching about the classics. The more we shared, the more I felt my heart opening to her. She is just amazing. The fear and confusion that had tormented me began to fade, replaced by a sense of peace I didn't know I could feel.
Eventually, we found ourselves at Bella's door. She turned to me, her eyes full of warmth. "Thank you for tonight, Draco. It was perfect."
I leaned in, leaving a soft kiss on her forehead. "Thank you, Bella. For everything."
Bella steps closer, placing her hands gently on my shoulders. Rising onto her toes, she draws me into a tender kiss. My hand instinctively cradles her face while my other arm wraps tightly around her waist, pulling her closer. The kiss deepens, the softness giving way to a passionate intensity. Bella's fingers clutch at my shirt, her grip firm as if she might tear it open. She tilts her head, parting her lips slightly, granting me fuller access. By Merlin, her taste is intoxicating. I could easily lose myself in this moment forever.
However, as the heat between us builds, I feel a tightening in my trousers. Reluctantly, I break the kiss, knowing that if we don't pause now, things might escalate beyond control.
We part, both of us breathing heavily, caught in the aftermath of our kiss.
"That was good," I said "but we should stop now, so I can try to act more like a gentleman. Please go inside before I'm tempted to continue." I give her a short kiss on the lips before letting go.
She laughed lightly and responded, "Who would have thought, English chivalry still exists."
I joined in her laughter and replied, "Someone has to try."
She smiled at me, her eyes twinkling. "Goodnight, Draco."
"Night, Bella."
I watched her go inside, my heart full of emotions I couldn't fully name. I knew that despite the challenges that might come, I was ready to face them. For Bella, for the chance of something real and beautiful, I was ready to fight.
I sought out a secluded alley to apparate to my flat, having had enough of Muggle transportation for the day. As I entered the alley, an odd sensation washed over me, as if someone were watching me. I felt an imminent threat.
I drew my wand and pointed it in the direction of the intruder. "Who's there?" I demanded.
There was no response, but I knew they were there; I could feel it in my gut. "I know you're there."
Finally, a gust of wind stirred, and then he was before me, face to face. His eyes, black and menacing. It was the vampire, Edward.
