This chapter was a whopping 15k words. Unfortunately, most of it was unnecessary explanations... but like I promised, I only edited a little. I've decided to split it up and just make it two separate chapters.
Trigger Warnings: profanity
Fukuoka Urban Residential, 3 Months Later
Life was as interesting as it could get for a reborn baby… uneventful, unproductive, and greatly unsatisfying.
The boys really didn't need the needs an infant needed—such as, and most tediously, drinking milk—but they had to put up with it, less they wanted to face unnecessary worry and probably a visit to the doctor. While Frederick was the first to notice, they quickly came to realize that they were living in an orphanage, and the constant buzzing of noises from both within and outside the building told them that there were a lot of other orphans living with them. It was almost baffling, really, to realize that they were living with hundreds of other children in one building. They tried not to think too much of it.
The day after their arrival was as eventful as the first. The Grandmother was rightfully confused as well as greatly terrified when she saw the horned devil-like Frederick rather than his previous slick form. She would then take a good hour or so checking on him for any signs of sickness or disease, much to his disturbance. Donatello and Jayden had great enjoyment in his distraught, regardless of the death stare he harbored at them.
Unfortunately, the scene had not ended there, for the Grandmother went so far as to call the local doctor to check to see if there were any problems… though, the befuddled man simply shrugged when he found nothing of the abnormalities. In the end, she had deduced that it was some natural phenomenon and left it at that, much to Frederick's relief.
For the next three weeks, the trio would be trapped in the same room, alone from the other kids while Grandmother tended to them regularly. She has begun to occasionally scold Donatello whenever he wasn't sleeping or eating as intended, but he usually replied with a fake giggle or some random baby behaviors he could think of, which somehow managed to subdue her concerns by just a bit. But it was probably for the best. The last thing they needed was unnecessary trouble… plus, Frederick usually preferred when things were quiet.
Day to day, Jayden was in a constant state of pure boredness, so much so that he managed to count the patterns on the old walls three times over. Frederick would amuse himself with meditation, both as a way of stress relief and as a form of training. Donatello simply hated the place altogether, spending every free minute he could get trying to escape.
In short, they had found themselves in a repetitive and uneventful cycle existing as babies. And clearly, this was not what they wanted.
True to Frederick's words, the three had initially come together the morning of the second day—when the Grandmother had yet to attend to them and caused a scene—but had come to realize… that they just didn't know how to proceed. While Jayden tried interacting with his system—which he had come to name the Standard Reincarnate System, a much better alternative to Donatello's Super Isekai Computer—and managed to find a plethora of abilities in his grasp, he couldn't really do much with it. The same applied to Frederick as well, who had been the first to have full mastery of his ki but couldn't muster anything more than a small ki sphere. And while Donatello also managed to get a grasp of his supposed universal magic, he too also faced the same limitations; they were babies in an orphanage.
Not only were they physically limited, but they were also limited in their environment as well. Their only method of growth available to them, then, was to be utterly passive… something that only Jayden would benefit from due to the nature of his biological makeup.
Speaking of which, Jayden's Standard Reincarnate System was truly a novelty, arguably the most valuable of the three's additional skills. Every day was a new feature to discover, and each time he slowly began to feel like this system of his was like that of a gamer's. In fact, he might as well call it a gamer's system already; if the special inventory and daily free spins were nothing to account for, then he didn't know what was. However, after receiving daily rewards ranging from a platinum toothbrush to a cup of asphalt-flavored pudding, Jayden sourly came to realize that not everything in his system was completely worthwhile.
Around a month of solitary confinement later, the boys were introduced to the rest of the orphanage, being given many weird reactions. The majority of the orphans looked creeped out from the three's appearances, while some thought the boys looked cool. It was, as Frederick had quietly said at the time, expected reactions from kids, and that they should soundly ignore them in pursuit of their preparations. But it was quite the task, however, to completely ignore the orphans… especially when they had their own set of features that made even Frederick double-take.
' … Why do they look like some monsters from Transilvania?' Donatello had asked at the time through a mental link that the three had set up a while back.
' Maybe just like how Universe Seven and Universe Nine have dog people as the norm, this universe has different humans and aliens as well,' Frederick had tried to explain, though it failed to ease his disturbance.
' I'm surprised this universe even has humans…' Jayden had calmly commented. His statement would then subtly make the boys contemplate the obscurity of their situation, and that they honestly should've been living in some alien society at the moment. It made them just slightly grateful for where they ended up instead.
Regardless, they weren't willingly going to befriend all the kids, much less interact with them. It would hinder their progress greatly, as Frederick so frequently reminded. But one girl—one that was much older than the others—started to spend time taking care of the three with Grandmother. Her name—as they reluctantly came to know—was Kauri, a red haired young girl with equally red eyes and porcelain-colored skin. She was five years older than them, making her something akin to a big sister.
Initially, they had all been dismissive of their new caregiver—especially Donatello, who was the most expressive of the three in his lamentations. But humorously enough, he had been the first to get used to her constant presence and eventually even began to interact with her initiatives to play.
With the help of Frederick, and the available knowledge from Jayden's system, the boys eventually grew tired of their idleness after yet another month passed and decided to get all the basics needed for a typical fighter from the Dragon Ball verse; Ki Control, Ki Sense, Ki Manipulation, and of course Ki Enhancement. While there was also martial arts to be learnt, it was again another physical limitation they'd have to wait on until much later.
Given the progress they were beginning to make, Donatello began to meddle around with his Universal Magic. Unfortunately, he was only as good as any beginner would be with magic, for he was only able to make weak elemental spells such as flames the size of a lightbulb spark or misty water vapor. He did, however, find great ease in using his Majin Magic.
It was a weird discovery—an accident, in fact—when he first discovered the utter simplicity he had with Majin Magic. It occurred on a day that was like any other normal day—about coming close to the third month, specifically—where the boys would entertain themselves with their few devices whenever they couldn't roughhouse in front of their caregivers. Suddenly, in a flash of electrifying pink light, the empty milk bottle in Donatello's grasp exploded in a puff of light pink smoke, leaving behind a chocolate muffin.
Normally, such an instance would've been dismissed by the other two, simply because they were well aware of Donatello's abilities as a Majin. However, at that instance, Donatello had never felt such deep gazes of utter baffleness fall upon him. Not baffleness of awe, but rather baffleness of the utter stupidity of who he had done that in front of.
Grandmother, who had been watching quite literally everything the boys were doing at the time—and frankly all the time—quite literally had her jaw slacked on the floor. Kauri, on the other hand, who had been by the older lady's side, held more a look of mesmerization than that of shock. Clearly, there was a great panic that followed suit…
... and it was then that the three boys had realized where exactly they had been living for the past three months.
Present Time
"You can't be serious, man…"
Jayden blinked with a sweatdrop running down his crown. " I'm being for real, bro. It's like I said, we're—"
" We're in fucking MY HERO ACADEMIA!?" Donatello abruptly cut off Jayden with a shout, flipping the blanket covering their crib. Kauri—who had taken the role of watching over the three as Grandmother left for shopping—softly reached out from the sidelines and took the blanket away from the fuming Donatello, so as to not let him suffocate himself. Not like he really cared about that at the moment, though. " How? How is that even possible?!"
" How should I know?" Jayden snorted. " All I know is that it's only the MHA verse where you see people fussing over quirks…"
" The show doesn't even correlate with Dragon Ball at all! How is it in the same multiverse?!"
" … yeah, that's the confusing part," Frederick hummed with a contemplative look, " if the My Hero Academia is Universe Fifteen of the Dragon Ball verse, then what would the other five universes be...?"
Donatello blinked in momentary confusion. "... Other five?"
" There were originally eighteen universes, remember?"
" Urk… that was, uh, from GT right?"
" No… Super, Don," Frederick deadpanned, " were you not listening when I went over the storyline?"
" I'd rather watch the show than listen to a summary, man."
" Well, you've got it one step higher, " Jayden pointed out, " you're living in the show now."
Donatello went silent before frowning. " Doesn't mean anything if you can't even meet the main cast."
Kauri, on the off hand, simply watched the three boys with an amused and joyful look as they conversed. Since Donatello's mishap, she had been the most optimistic of the witnesses, eagerly exclaiming the amazement of Donatello gaining a "quirk" so early—in fact, she had been a great signal to Jayden's realization of which world they were in specifically. Consequently, she had grown even more attached to the three boys, especially Donatello, who she was now lifting up from under his arms.
Donatello fidgeted in her grasp as he held a helpless look. " Hey… put me down."
Oblivious to his words, Kauri simply giggled at his reaction, swinging him around playfully but with a hint of caution. " You're an airplane, Donny-kun! Say wee!"
" Stop calling me that," Donatello groaned, though he quite easily went along with her antics, waving his arms around as she flew him around the room.
Jayden watched with mirth as Kauri continued to play with Donatello. " Wish I had a camera for this."
" You sound like an old lady for saying that," Frederick snorted.
" Not like that, Fred. Just wanna keep some sort of blackmail on Don."
" … Then, doesn't your system have a camera or something?"
"..." Jayden glanced down at the transparent screen in his vision with a contemplative hum, "... Damn, it does."
Eventually, Kauri had enough playing with Donatell—or rather, the boy earnestly expressed his limit—and put him back in the crib with the others. Slumping himself forward, he glanced up at the two with a tired look. " Were my older siblings this overbearing?"
" How should we know? We were babies at the time, too," Jayden said.
" Thank goodness I can't remember any of that," Donatello huffed, sitting himself up, " … so, like, what now? Now that we know we're in My Hero."
" It shouldn't really change much, to be honest."
" But like… do we gotta follow the storyline or something?"
"... that's a bit of mainstream thinking there, dude," Jayden deadpanned.
" I mean, shit, was just asking. Usually you have to do that or else everything gets messed up, right?"
" If that's the case, then why aren't we going on an adventure with Goku?"
" Urk… you've got a point."
" Well, in any case," Frederick huffed, crossing his arms in thought, " this may or may not serve as potentially good information for us… do either of you two remember most of the My Hero storyline?"
" I mean, I kinda dropped the series a bit early on," Donatello admitted, shaking his head, " like what, episode two?"
" Uhh," Jayden scratched his cheek in thought, " … sort of? It's been a minute."
Frederick nodded. " That's fine. I've looked into the series a bit before myself… I at least know that the main goal is to enter the prestigious school around here."
" Oh right, U.A. High. Supposed to be the best school for heroes."
" School? No, fuck that," Donatello instantly grunted with a frown, waving his hands, " I'm not going through that shit again."
" But it's for heroes this time," Jayden insisted.
" Nah, I ain't falling for that bait. School is school, and I'll hate it regardless."
" What? I just said…"
Frederick hummed, rubbing his chin. " … and how influential is this school to the story, Jay?"
" It's… as recurring as Vegeta's hairline is."
"...uh, ok…" A sweat drop ran down Frederick's temple at the correlation, " …well, in that case, you two should probably go there."
" ...WHAT!?" Both Donatello and Jayden shout out simultaneously, though mostly Donatello's voice could be heard. Kauri, on the other hand, winced at the sudden loud voices, rubbing her ears while looking on in confusion.
Frederick raised his hands in defense at the two boys. "Hear me out, okay? We've been doing all this training but haven't had any progress in finding out targets. We're basically still on square one. We still need information about where they are, even if we have a way to know who they are."
" But what does that have to do with going to school," Donatello barked back, clearly displeased, " that's like the opposite of searching!"
" Think about it. This universe's villains might have ties with our targets," Frederick countered, " it may sound absurd, but it's a possibility. We don't know where they're hiding, but if any of the past times the Dragon Ball verse has had inter-universal trespassers is of anything important, then our targets will most definitely go for whoever is the strongest in this universe, or whoever shares similar goals."
"... I can't make sense out of that, man."
" Mostly because you're thinking about it too shallowly," Frederick pinched the bridge of his nose with exasperation, " even with that aside, if we want to move freely, we'll need to keep a positive image of ourselves. We're supposed to save this universe, not cause more trouble… and if we need to assimilate ourselves in it, so be it."
" I don't know about this one, Fred…"
" Did you not just suggest we follow the storyline not even a minute ago, Don?"
Donatello groaned, rubbing the back of his head. " I mean… yeah, but—shit—I'm not this chivalrous, man…"
" And what about you, Fred?" Jayden suddenly asked, pointing at Frederick, " You said us two, but where are you going?"
"... Simple. I'll just become a villain."
"..."
"..."
Donatello sniffed. " Are we supposed to be laughing right now?"
Frederick gave the Majin an appalled and hurt expression. " The fuck? I'm being serious."
Both Donatello and Jayden gave each other a look at Frederick's words before sudden bursting out in laughter.
" Oh—pffft, haha— holy—hahaha!" Donatello wheezed, clutching his sides. " Fred, you—hahaha!"
"... What's so funny?"
" Be—haha—for real here, man," Jayden laughed, " That's the corniest thing I've heard from you in a minute."
"... There's nothing corny about wanting to get all the information we can get," Frederick huffed with indignation, " If I become a villain, I'll get information you guys probably won't be able to get as hero students."
" Then that's just another reason we shouldn't be going!" Donatello countered.
" No no, like I said, it's better you go," Frederick shook his head, " we can communicate with our mind links, so distance is not a problem."
Jayden huffed, calming his uncharacteristic laughter. " Ok, if you really think we should go, then sure—"
" Wait, Jay, no—" Donatello started.
"—but you'd be better off being something like a spy than a villain," Jayden continued, " the whole point of us being heroes is to avoid conflict, right? You'd only contradict yourself by being a villain."
Frederick hummed before shaking his head. " … well, spy or villain, it doesn't matter. We'll need resources, manpower, and everything else that can help us. And if that means we need to go to some extremes to get that… then I'll be the one to do it."
A silence fell between the boys as his words settled in. Then, Donatello huffed. " Hey… you trying to be an edgelord or something?"
" What? No!" Frederick shook his head earnestly. " I'm just saying that we'll probably need to get our hands dirty in order to get what we need."
" What do we even need?"
" I just listed off things we needed."
" Like hell we need manpower! We can literally destroy planets!"
Frederick groaned, rubbing his eyes. " It isn't going to be as simple as that, Don…"
Jayden sighed, leaning against the railing of the crib. " Alright… then I guess there's no problem, for me at least."
" What? C'mon Jay, don't give up that easily, Donatello whined, " there's got to be a better way to handle this."
" Yeah, but this is a start at least. We can always make adjustments later… not like we're doing it now, right?"
" Tell you what," Frederick started, " when we are old enough to leave this orphanage, I'll stay for a bit before we split. Once I manage to get some good intel, then I'll join back with you guys. Sounds good?"
"Hm." Jayden grunted in acknowledgment, closing his eyes, " sure."
"... ok, fine," Donatello huffed, falling flat on his back, " you usually know your shit, Fred, so we might as well go with your idea."
Frederick gave a small grin, taking up his lotus stance once more. " In the meantime… we'll just keep doing what we've been doing since day one."
" Yay…"
Fukuoka Public Hospital, 3 Years Later…
It was near the end of summer. The heat has reduced from its unbearable temperature and was slowly transitioning to the fall warmth. The skies were clear and the evening sun shines brightly, life continuing in the city of Fukuoka like any normal day.
Donatello looked around at the open dirt field before him, decorated with scarce numbers of trees and shrubs while a tall barbed fence surrounded the place. It reminded him of a baseball field. " …Why are we out here again?"
Standing next to him was Frederick and Jayden, both of whom shared a neutral or stoic expression. All three boys wore simple shirts, shorts, and sneakers, all of which blended with their bodys' color palette. Grandmother stood right behind them, dressed in her lime green floral dress and with her ever present concern on her face.
The four patiently waited for the doctor's instructions, who stood in front of the four with a bright yellow plastic crate. The man in question was a simple young doctor; shaved face with flattened and gelled black hair and cartoon-like eyes behind narrow glasses.
Frederick looked at Donatello's question with exasperation. " Sensei already told us before we left the room, Don."
" I, uh, forgot," Donatello admitted shamelessly. Frederick simply facepalmed in response.
After finishing his hasty scribbles on his notepad, the doctor nodded at Donatello with a professional smile. " No worries. Due to the nature of you and your brothers' quirks, we'll be taking the quirk evaluation at our fields for everyone's safety."
" Oh... alright."
" Donatello-san, since you asked, I want you to come up first and try using your quirk," the doctor instructed, " take anything from this crate, or do what you think feels right. I'll only be observing your actions."
" Ok," Donatello stepped up from the group and stared down at the crate filled with an assortment of items, " I just pick anything, right?"
The doctor nodded. " Whichever interests you."
With that said, Donatello looked back into the box and swiftly picked the first thing that he saw, which turned out to be a small green ball. On it were the words 'Quirk Test Equipment' printed in black. He tossed the ball in his hands a few times before grinning to himself. " … Alright, watch this everyone."
' Don't go overboard,' Jayden said through the mental link.
Donatello smirked, giving a side glance at Jayden. ' Yeah, don't worry, I'm not gonna do anything crazy. Just you see.'
Then suddenly, with the speed of a bullet, Donatello arched his arm back and threw the ball across the field. The ball soared outwards, slowly leaving their field of vision as it followed a route well beyond the fencing.
The doctor nodded to himself slowly, scribbling more writing on the clipboard. He held a bored expression on his face, though. " Enhanced strength… not an uncommon attribute… enhanced speed as well… also not uncommon…"
" I'm not done yet!" Before anyone could say anything else, Donatello instantly reeled his arm back again and shot it outwards, the appendage soaring at rapid speeds. It quickly overlapped the speed of the ball, and no second later did his hand catch the flying object.
With his target contained, Donatello retracted his arm back in a loud whirring sound, returning to its normal length as he tossed the ball back in the crate. When he looked back, Donatello saw the doctor's eyes bulging out of his sockets, completely speechless.
'...That was hella overkill, Don,' Jayden sighed.
'What? I was going easy there,' Donatello shot back with indignation, crossing his arms.
'Your version of easy isn't the same as a normal person's…'
Donatello snorted, rolling his eyes. He then glanced up at the doctor with a smug grin. " So, how'd I do?"
The doctor cleared his throat, nodded his head slowly, " A-Amazing… you're able to stretch your arm over 120 meters… i-in less than five seconds!"
Donatello looked back down the field. "This place is 120 meters?"
" Y-Yes…" the doctors wrote down a few more things before giving Donatello a calculative look, " could you try stretching out other parts of your body?"
" Sure can," With those words, Donatello kicked his leg forward without hesitation, which stretched out and hit the trunk of a tree across the other side of the field. He retracted his foot no second later, leaving behind a visible dent of his footprint.
" Amazing," the doctor breathed once more, adding yet even more information on his notepad, " not only enhanced strength and speed, but the elasticity of rubber or gum."
" Eh… I think it's rubber," Donatello commented causally, picking off the splinters that got stuck in the fabric of his sneakers, " I don't really stick to stuff like gum."
" …You sound quite sure of yourself about that, Donatello-kun," Grandmother stated, giving him a questioning look, " in fact, you seem very used to your quirk already..."
Donatello flinched at the sudden attention, cold sweat building up on the back of his neck. He averted his gaze from Grandmother, unsure how to respond. " Uh…"
' Should've listened to our warnings, Don.'
Donatello gave a small glare at Frederick. ' S-Shut up, you didn't even say anything!'
" It's normal for children to have an innate understanding of their quirk, Miss Nakagawa-san," the doctor said with a reassuring smile, " Donatello-san is likely just following in instincts."
The Grandmother paused for a moment before humming. " I suppose you are correct in that, Shinya-sensei."
'...Woooah woah woah woah, what?! That's her name?' Donatello asked alarmingly.
' … why is that a surprise,' Frederick asked blandly.
' Dude, I never knew that was her name… I just thought it was Grandmother.'
'... For five years, Don…'
' I-I know, bro, but—'
' You cannot convince me that you're that ignorant…'
"..." Donatello winced, rubbing the back of his head. " Ouch…"
" Something wrong, Donatello-kun?" Grandmother instantly asked, having heard his mutter.
" N-No, it's fine…"
" Well then, Donatello-san," the doctor continued, flipping his notepad to a new page, " from what I've seen, you're able to easily stretch your body at far lengths without any sort of strain. Until we go back inside for an official title, we'll temporarily call it Extendability."
" Uh, sure…" Donatello seemed both unconvinced and disappointed from the sudden yet bland name for his powers.
" The same thing goes for you two as well," the doctor said, looking at Frederick and Jayden, " I'll give temporary names for your quirks until official registration."
"Ok," both boys nodded in unison, having nothing more to say.
With that said, the doctor gave a smile to Frederick. " Now, let's have—"
" Hold it right there, Shinya-sensei," Grandmother said abruptly, stepping forwards, " Donatello-kun has more than just his extendability."
"... Oh shit…" Donatello muttered under his breath.
" Pardon?" The doctor tilted his head in confusion.
" I remember it as clear as polished glassware," Grandmother began, " when he was just at the age two, this young boy here turned his bottle of milk into a chocolate muffin."
Donatello's eyes widened. ' Fuck! How does she remember that?!'
' It's hard to forget when your kid gets a quirk at a young age,' Frederick responded, though his shoulders visibly slumped with a slight groan, ' but… I was hoping she'd forget about that…'
' Didn't she say she was a retired detective or something?' Jayden commented mentally.
' Disciplinary Officer.'
' … right.'
The doctor perked up at her explanation. He then stared at Donatello with a prolonged calculative expression. " Milk bottle into chocolate muffin… a transmutation quirk? But that's strange… I didn't see it in his records…"
Grandmother frowned, narrowing her eyes. " You must be mistaken, sensei. I had immediately reported the event the same hour Donatello-kun activated his quirk. Surely it wasn't deleted."
" … No, miss Nakagawa-san, it's forbidden to remove, alter, or change a quirk once it's been registered," the doctor pressed his lips in concern, " may I ask which practitioner you had gone to that day?"
" Err… it was Garaki-sensei, was it…? Yes, Dr. Kyusai Garaki."
"... I'm afraid I have not heard of such a doctor in our hospital, ma'am."
' This doesn't sound good…' Donatello grumbled.
'... That name… it sounds important,' Jayden commented, though with a conflicting face, ' can't remember who he is, though.'
' Probably nothing to worry about at the moment,' Frederick summarized.
" This is quite concerning… I'm thankful that you've brought this to my attention, Miss Nakagawa-san," the doctor hummed, a concerned look on his face, " I will have this looked into… but for now, I would like to see this other feature of Donatello-san's quirk that you claim exists."
Grandmother nodded sharply, looking down at the idle Donatello, who was picking inside his ear. " Don't just stand there. Go on and use your quirk."
Donatello groaned, rubbing the back of his head. " I, uh, can't remember how to do it..."
" Do you take me as a fool, boy? If you know your body so well already, then you should be able to do it without trouble," Grandmother admonished, leaving no room for argument, " now go on and do as you've been instructed."
" …Y-Yes, ma'am…"
Donatello return to the crate, awkwardly picking up another random object—this time being a large steel rod. He stared at it quietly for a moment before sneaking a glance at his two brothers, who watched intently.
'... Is this a good idea?' Donatello asked.
' Go for it,' Jayden shrugged, 'I don't see anything you can do to stop it. The cat's out the bag… we might as well not cause unnecessary trouble.'
' But again, don't overdo things. The last thing we need is to be held back because you showed something more than expected,' Frederick added.
'... well, alright,' Donatello sighed, returning his attention back to the steel rod.
With pressed lips, he tossed the rod onto the ground and flexed his head muscles to slowly aim his antenna. Gradually, a faint but noticeable purple light began to glow from the tip, which gradually built up until into crackling static sparks. Soon, the area was filled with the low hum of electricity, and the light from his antenna shone with the brightness of a lightbulb.
Then suddenly, the light shot out as a concentrated beam, zooming towards the steel rod instantly in a zig-zag motion. A large cloud of smoke soon followed as the beam collided, causing the others to raise an arm over their eyes. Once the light died out and the smoke settled, what was once a foot-long steel rod was now replaced with a plate of chocolate pudding.
As everyone processed the situation, a clattering could be heard. The four looked towards the doctor, who now held a look of shock greater than the one he had before. His eyes were widened to the size of literal saucer plates, his mouth flapping like a fish as his clipboard and notepad were splayed on the ground.
Grandmother closed her eyes with a huff, though a content smile decorated her face. She gave a prideful look at Donatello, who had crouched down next to the plate of pudding and looked at it contemplatively. "As expected of you, Donatello-kun… I had a strong feeling that you were a prodigy."
Donatello blinked up to the older woman, giving her an awkward and toothy grin. " Uh… thank you…?"
" T-This is a-absurd," the doctor stuttered, moving up to the plate of pudding with such haste that he caused Donatello to stumble backwards in shock. Oblivious to his actions, the doctor went on to poke the pudding with the tip of his pen, watching the chocolate desert break apart and spread on the plate. " T-This… it's the r-real deal…! H-Hard metal turned into organic matter!"
" … is that, uh, bad or something…?" Donatello asked, patting the back of his shirt after recovering from his fall.
" Ah… n-no, it's far from that!" The doctor exclaimed with an elated look towards the Majin, who simply blinked in response. " Matter manipulation is one of the rarest categories of quirks to date. And this… this is most definitely a high-tier version of matter manipulation! I'd even argue that your quirk could be the pinnacle of all matter manipulative quirks altogether!"
'... ain't that a bit too much glaze?' Donatello snorted mentally.
' High tier?' Frederick repeated. ' Did they always rank quirks like that?'
' Not that I remember, no,' Jayden shrugged.
After a brief moment, the doctor seemed to have recovered somewhat from his excitement, going so far as to cough in his fist with embarrassment. " Ah… apologies, that was unbecoming of me."
Donatello simply deadpanned, unsure how to react to this man. He then felt a hand to his shoulder as Grandmother stepped forward with a beaming smile.
" It's fine, sensei, I too share the same amazement at Donatello-kun's capabilities. He's a whole wild card of a child… and this time I mean it in a good way."
' Hey… what's that supposed to mean,' Donatello pouted.
' Probably something along the lines of being a showoff…'
Donatello sent a brief glare towards Jayden. ' The hell do you mean?! I was literally doing the bare minimum!'
' Bare minimum my ass. You could've just turned that rod into a blob of sugar, or showed some signs of imperfections.'
' Like hell I was gonna do that! I made a muffin before, what difference would it make if I changed the quality!'
' Could you two shut up? The link is public, I can hear everything you're spouting,' Frederick groaned, rubbing his temples.
' Good, then you can also hear Jayden's bullshit, right?!'
' I don't think shit makes any bull sounds, Don.'
' I…,' Donatello inhaled sharply before breathing out with a slow and heavy sigh, '... you're fucking with me, aren't you?'
Jayden simply grinned… or, rather, grinned as much as he could do with a beak. ' Who knows?'
With more composure, the doctor picked up his clipboard. He muttered to himself as he continuously added even more things to the notepad, going so far as to flip to the next page. " You truly are one of a kind, Donatello-kun. This might very well be the most amazing quirk I've seen in all my time as a doctor.."
Grandmother's grin widened even further at the doctor's words. Without hesitation, she swiftly picked up the Majin from his feet, cradling him in her arms. She then nuzzled into his cheek affectionately, much to his dismay. " You hear that Donatello? You could be a hero with your quirk!"
" P-Put me down, Inchō-san!" Donatello whined, attempting to pull himself back but with no progress. " I don't wanna be a hero!"
Grandmother paused before frowning. " Ah… what did I tell you about calling me that, young man?"
Donatello flinched at her sudden shift in tone. " … u-uh, sorry… okaa-san… heroes are cool… yay…"
The older lady chuckled, patting his head affectionately " Of course they are, my little bubblegum, and you'll definitely be one in the future~"
Donatello's brow flinched just barely as his face went pale. Jayden and Frederick, on the other hand, forcefully bit their tongues down so as to not burst out laughing, but regardlessly earned a glare from Donatello. Reluctantly, Donatello simply huffed to himself, allowing his caregiver to yet again dote on him, no matter how much he was against it.
"... Ok, Frederick-san," the doctor started, looking at the Frost Demon, " you claimed to have some form of psychic ability, correct?"
Frederick nodded cautiously. " Yeah… my gameboy started to float out of my hands this morning. I think it's telekinesis."
" I…see…" the doctor nodded slowly, faintly surprised at Frederick's use of a large word, one that normally no other five year old would be able to understand, " well then… I want to see how much you can lift with these psychic powers of yours before you feel strain, fatigue, nausea, or any other side effects. Those are some common traits with most telekinesis users."
" Alright," Frederick stepped forward to the crate.
" And remember, don't overwork yourself. We're only going to test what your quirk is, not how far you can go with it."
Frederick sighed quietly with a nod as he blandly looked around the inside of the box. After a few seconds of scanning his catalog, he simply gave up, taking a step back from the crate. However, at the same time his eyes glowed a blue haze, as did the entire body of the box. No second later did the crate lift up into the air, following the trail of his eyes as it soared well over twenty feet in height.
His display earned him not only a gasp from the doctor, but one from Grandmother as well, though he remained focused on the task at hand. With his hands in his short's pockets, Frederick began to psychically separate each item from the box, grouping them in the air with the most similarities.
"A-Amazing… to be able to carry two hundred and eighty four pounds worth of equipment," the doctor flipped the pages on his clipboard, writing down his observations on Frederick's quirk test page. He paused, and looked towards the small Acrosian, " and with such precision… all without strain, too…"
Frederick smirked at the doctor's words before placing the crate and its belongings back down to the ground, leaving behind a black metal cube floating in the air. He then lifted his right hand out of his pocket, fingers spread out. In his palm, a small blue hue appeared, to which slowly grew to a tennis-size ball. Before the doctor could even register what was going on, Frederick fires the blue ki ball, effectively destroying the black cube in an explosive display of blue sparks and metal scraps.
A few of the metal scraps went flying towards the group, but Donatello was already in action.
" Gomu gomu no… Balloon!" With a large gasp of air, Donatello rapidly inflated himself in front of the group. No second later did the metal scraps bounce off him, harmlessly falling onto the ground.
'... Gomu gomu…?' Jayden repeated with an exasperated look.
Donatello grinned from above his inflated body. ' It fits doesn't it.'
' … I guess so.'
" That's a first…" Grandmother whistles as Donatello slowly deflated.
" H-He even has Energy Manipulation..." The doctor gawked. Struggling to find any more surprise to offer, his shoulders went slumped as he then looked at Donatello again. " A-And you can inflate yourself, too!"
" Well, in my defense, I didn't even think it would work out… " Donatello hummed, staring down at himself before suddenly squawking and covering himself, " gah, my clothes!"
' Dumbass,' Jayden quipped.
Donatello scowled. ' S-Shut up, I thought anime physics would work it out!'
Grandmother sighed, moving her purse over to her side and removing a fresh set of clothes. " Come now, Donatello-kun. I have another set here."
Donatello blinked at the second pair of clothes with confusion. Regardless, he bowed his head, grateful. " O-Ok…"
With nothing more to do, Frederick walked back to his brothers with steady calmness, amusingly watching as Donatello was aided by their Grandmother in changing into new clothes. ' Now that's how you properly display your powers.'
Jayden snorted with an unconvinced expression. ' That was also overkill, Fred.'
' … ok, yeah, but I only had one… slight miscalculation from the black cube exploding,' Frederick scoffed defensively.
' uh-huh…'
Jayden walked up next and waited for the doctor to finish writing down his long list of somewhat unnecessary notes.
When he finished, the doctor looked up to see his last patient already waiting for him. " Alright, Jayden-san, let's see what amazing quirk you have too."
" I would call it amazing," Jayden muttered as he took his turn to look inside the crate. However, like Frederick, nothing inside interested him, and so instead he looked back at the group, holding a wide grin. With rapid succession, he shoots his tail outwards towards the now-clothed Donatello. The syringe-like tail struck true to its target, which was right inside the chocolate pudding that Donatello had picked up. And I'm large visible gulps, his tail began to suck the contents, much to Donatello's dismay.
" Hey, my pudding!" Donatello shrieked alarmingly, though before he could do anything, the chocolate pudding was completely gone.
Jayden retracted his tail—right before the majin could grab it—and shook off any excess chocolate.
The doctor looked on with amazement, pausing to absorb the scene before him. " A-An extendable tail that also acts like a syringe…"
" I'm not down yet, Sensei," Jayden said.
" H-Huh?"
Without any elaboration, Jayden extended his elytra out and then began to levitate from the ground, discreetly creating thin insect-like wings with his ki. As he continued to slowly and shakingly rise up, Donatello looked on with frustration and a bit of anger.
Noticing this, Frederick looked at the Majin with warning. ' Don, don't—'
" Hey, get back here!" Not hearing his brother's warning, Donatello shot a hand outwards, which extended rapidly towards Jayden. The Bio Android instantly noticed this, and with smoothness dodged the grab attack. However, it did not end there, for Donatello then sent out his other arm towards Jayden.
From then on, Jayden went on to display an act of acrobatic maneuvers while dodging Donatello's frantic assaults. This only happened for a few seconds, though, before Donatello felt a powerful grab on his antenna.
" Ow!" Donatello winced, his arms retracting as he held his head.
" Donatello, that is enough! Stop attacking your brother!" Grandmother ordered.
" Ok, ok! Sorry! P-Please let go!"
She did not heed to his requests, pressing further. " What had gotten into your head about attacking Jayden, hm?"
" H-Hey, he took my—"
" Don't Hey me boy," Grandmother's eyes narrowed, " you should know better than that. Next time you step out of turn, you won't be getting any time to play outside. Understood?"
Normally, such a punishment would've never been a problem to Donatello. But, with the past 4 years being confined within the orphanage—and with the fact that it has only been this year that they were granted the freedom of going outside—Donatello would've much preferred not to stay inside longer than he already has. With that, the boy nodded his head vigorously. " Yes Ma'am! I won't ever do it again!"
Grandmother looked at Donatello for a moment before releasing him with a huff. " You should behave yourself in public, young man. It's unbefitting to cause a scene."
Donatello slumped onto his bottom with a pout. " Y-Yes, ma'am…"
' That was kinda dumb,' Frederick pointed out, giving the Majin an amused look.
' Not helping, Fred…'
Jayden landed down from flight, stretching his arms. " Sorry, Don, just wanted to show what I know I can do."
" Yeah, sure…"
"Fascinating, an extendable tail that doubles as a mouth… and then the ability to fly," the doctor smiled widely, " you three never cease to amaze me. You are an extraordinary lot!"
He then motions everyone to follow him. "We'll be returning back inside to complete your quirk registrations."
' About time,' Frederick huffed.
' The crazy part is that none of this benefits us at all,' Jayden groaned.
' C'est la vie.'
Donatello sent a sharp look at Jayden as the group left. ' You owe me one, by the way.'
' … alright, sure. I'll give you a sword or something.'
' A sword? The heck are you getting that from?' After receiving silence, Donatello's eyes widened. ' oh… your computer system or whatever.'
' Yep.'
' Cool… but, how'll we explain how I got a sword?'
' We'll just say some random hero gave it to us.'
Frederick snorted. ' You two think you can lie to grandma here?'
' I'm sure we'll get by.'
Author's Note
In the original 15k chapter, I had actually done two timeskips, which is kinda too fast-paced if I'm being honest. I kinda left a lot of holes in the plot, and I'm sure I still have in this split chapter, but I'll probably make a redux later on if I actually make some progress.
To make things clear, the three protagonists were 1 year old in the previous chapter. In this chapter's timeskip, they're four years old. They have about 1 more year for that "grace period" of opting out of their mission... which I had overlooked previously. I will add a short scene in the next part to clear up that hole and help it transition onwards better.
If you felt that the Grandmother character feels a bit off, I would agree as well. I had initially just wanted her to be a side character that'll probably be forgotten about, but even then, I have my doubts in how I executed her character. I will try to work on that as well.
In any case, thank you for reading this far. Once all these chapters are published, I'll probably give myself a little time to properly map out what I want to do. Until next time.
