Episode 3: Chapter 10

Kyle and Sophie walked hand in hand, both sending each other furtive looks out the corners of their eyes. It had only been a couple of days, but they still carried the joy of finally making love, especially how they did it. Right now however they were dressed casually, Kyle in black cargo shorts, a navy blue T-shirt and black skate shoes with a grey backwards cap while Sophie wore ripped jeans, a black T-shirt under an unbuttoned red and black flannel cardigan and black sneakers. They were heading for Clem's house, having been told of a major update in the investigation. When they arrived they found Clem and Violet waiting for them, both also dressed casually in jeans, a white T-shirt, grey socks and sneakers and ripped jeans, a purple T-shirt, black socks and sneakers respectively.

"Hey guys, Gabe and Brody are already there, follow us." Clem said.

Violet then added. "We'll fill you in on the way."

Falling into step the other couple were surprised.

"Wow." Kyle remarked. "This must be big."

"It is, Mr. Carver's a reclusive man, only goes to three places, home, school...and a rundown home he's renting out but never has any tenants." Clem explained.

Violet continued. "But according to the people Gabe and Brody asked, there's lights on in there after dark some nights."

Sophie nodded. "So, whatever he's up to, it's in there?"

"Sounds plausible." Kyle agreed.

So together they hurried on to get the street the house was on.

It wasn't hard to find, Gabe and Brody hung around outside it, Gabe clad in cargo pants, a dark green T-shirt, black socks and sneakers while Brody wore pink pants, a dark red tank-top, white socks and pink sneakers. A casually dressed teenage couple, that was all they appeared to be, the perfect cover.

"Hey guys. So, we already got inside and checked the main building out." Gabe explained once they all met up. "Not much going on there."

Brody then continued. "But the basement, that's another, we just got a glimpse but it was enough, come check it out."

The others shared wary look but agreed and so, checking there was no one else around, they slipped inside the open window and followed Gabe and Brody to the basement stairs. Heading down they reached the door at the bottom, opened it up and stepped through, gaping in shock at what they saw.

The six friends descended down the hidden stairs into a basement, where they were all blasted by air conditioning, which felt very refreshing. The room was absolutely bright with fluorescent lights forbidding shadows from simply existing. The room was also rather large, with a tripod and filming equipment in the corner. It seemed like the size of a gym.

Immediately, the six teens separated into groups and searched the area. Clementine and Violet took the far corner by the tripod. Kyle and Sophie took a wall where there seemed to be some sort of shelf. Meanwhile, Brody and Gabe attempted to get into the nearby PC located near the entrance.

The trio of duos chattered amongst each other trying to figure out what Carver was doing with this hidden room on his second property. All six of them felt a mix of anxiety and tension, none of them quite sure what they were going to find.

Kyle retreated over to the coffee table on the off chance that there was something there, but all he could find was a couple of miscellaneous magazines. Kyle shook his before returning to Sophie, who knelt in front of the black cabinet. Two metal handles protruded from the surface, but the cabinet didn't open.

"Locked," Kyle said simply. "Maybe it's jammed?"

Sophie sniffed the air. "Do you smell that?"

Kyle's nose wrinkled. "Now that you mention that, what is that?"

"Smells like paint." Sophie rubbed at a spot, and sure enough, something started to rub off. "I think..." Sophie muttered. Kyle joined her and rubbing at the spot. Now that she mentioned it, not only did the spot smell distinctly of paint, but it seemed unnaturally darker than the rest of the cabinet.

"It's like he's trying to hide something," Sophie muttered.

"What's going on?" Gabe called out, his curiosity plain as day.

"Hey, guys! We found something!"

Kyle glanced over to Clementine and Violet. The blonde of the pair was holding up a vial of clear liquid. "

"What is that?" Brody asked.

"It's morphine," Clementine said numbly.

"What the hell is Carver doing with morphine? That would knock someone out," Kyle shook his head, in utter disbelief, although he wasn't sure if he should be surprised. "I know what that's like, " he grumbled under his breath.

"We found some discarded needles too," Violet added, grimly. "It definitely seems like all of it was used recently."

"I've got something over here too!" Sophie piped up. "It looks like I need a key."

Kyle, Clementine, and Violet rushed over to Sophie's discovery. She had successfully rubbed the fresh paint off and they found a keyhole lodged in. "Carver's definitely trying to hide something," Violet muttered.

Meanwhile, Gabe and Brody were searching the desk for something to unlock the cabinet. After some vigorous searching, Brody shouted, "Found it!"

She pulled a small ring with about 3 keys and tossed it to Sophie, who caught it with one hand. The second key was the magic one, and the cabinet opened to no fanfare. Gabe and Brody joined the other four teens as they gazed upon their discovery.

"It's... Binders," Gabe said simply.

"Yeah," Sophie agreed. Her voice was thick with anxiety, but no one noticed nor cared. "Not just binders. Binders with girls names on them. Students names."

One of them gasped, and it sounded like Brody. They each pulled a binder at random, but one specifically caught Sophie's eye.

"And it looks like there's one with my name on it."

With trepidation they opened the binder and all recoiled in horror. Inside were photos, photos of Sophie all taken without her permission or knowledge, mainly in school with special focus on her skirt and legs, but also a fair few outside of school, including one that sickened Sophie greatly.

"That was at the pool party, that bastard." Sophie blurted out.

The photo was actually of Sophie getting changed into her bikini, half-naked.

"This sick creep has been doing this since at least he arrived...perv." Kyle growled. "That's why he got all angry at us that day we kissed in school."

Violet then noticed. "There are binders with mine and Clem's names on them, creep was likely stalking us too."

"Every girl in school actually, by all these binders, but none more than Sophie, going by the sizes." Clem noted.

They knew then they had to report this, this was enough for them to get Carver dealt with, it all pointed to him being the one attacked Sophie before too, even if something kept niggling in the back of her mind that a piece was missing.

They quickly put everything back the way it was, as much as they could, to avoid suspicion. The morphine it seemed had been used twice, two binders ended with two girls from school, drugged and bound while he photographed them. Determined now to get justice they slipped out the house and began to head off, planning how to make sure the police could bring Carver down once and for all.
