PERCY
Hecate led us out of the sketchy shop only to lead us to an even sketchier set of buildings. The wrought-iron gates stood tall around the whole block ivy snaking around the whole building making the midnight black bricks slightly green. The roofs were tall and pointed with three chimneys coming out of each, all billowing thick, black smoke that Grover would definitely complain about. Hecate wasn't paying any attention to that though, she was checking a small, golden wristwatch.
"Two more minutes we made it just in time."
I counted 52 seconds before I lost count and had to restart but by the time I stopped staring at a random crow that landed in on the roof and was making its way into one of the chimney's, the building suddenly morphed, squishing together making crunching noises as they condensed to one side, leaving a weird distorted effect if you looked at one place for too long. Like when air goes all wiggly if it's near a fire. Then as quickly as the buildings had slushed together, a structure similar to a castle in chess spun out of thin air landing on the ground with the sickening sound of rock scraping against itself.
"Quick before we miss it!" Hecate ushered us into the chess-piece's golden door, and a loud popping noise probably suggested the building had disappeared again. The interior was scatter-brained to say the least. Books piled dis-orderly in stacks that looked as though they would topple over with the slightest touch, the wallpaper had no apparent theme and changed halfway through the wall from bright orange, which reminded me of camp, and a highlighter yellow colour which resembled Chimera venom (having first-hand experience dealing with said venom, 2/5 stars got me thrown of a building, do not recommend). The circular counter in the was painted a shade of brown that looked like pancakes with no blue dye (sad). Behind the counter was a gnarled old man with crooked yellow teeth that definitely need brushing. His hair was a pure white tuft at the top of his mostly bald scalp, but his clothes were probably the weirdest part about the whole shop, which was saying a lot. He was wearing a collared shirt printed with yellow skulls on a bright green background, over that the man wore a purple vest patterned with metallic swirls.
"Welcome to Death-Bound books," he said in an oily, drawling voice, bowing his head to the three of us so that I could see his shiny, bald scalp. "What would you like today?"
"Two sets of the base subjects in Hogwarts, grade 6, two on the Dark Arts." She said casually.
"Of course, Madam, anything elseā¦" the man began shuffling through his stacks of books, levitating some out of the way to reach others. Hecate turned to Annabeth and me.
"What do you two particularly want to study?" I shrugged listlessly, not in really listening.
"Does Ath-, my mother specialise in any kind of magic?"
"Ah, yes," she said turning to the shopkeeper, "one book highest-grade of occlumency and legilimency." The shopkeeper's, however, attention was not towards Hecate, he was staring un-blinkingly into Annabeth's eyes. I wanted to jump in front of her, knowing out of experience that something bad was going to happen but Hecate noticed immediately and waved her hand swiftly over the man's line of sight, and he promptly toppled over, seemingly unconscious.
"What did he just-!" I started angrily, forgetting that it was a god I was half-screaming at. Probably not smart.
"-he's probably a legilimens" Hecate said with a look of disgust, "he tried to read Annabeth's mind."
"Wait, they can do that?!" I asked again.
"Yes," Hecate responded resignedly, "They may not possess much power, but they are sure clever with what they have." Almost lazily, she waved her hand over us, and I felt a trickle of power, similar to the Mist trickle over my head. Oh great, I've also been knocked out and Hecate is really a murdering maniac coming to kidnap me and my wisegirl. Or so I thought.
"I've just put a protective barrier with some of my own magic, not strictly legal in the wizarding world- but we can't have you spilling facts about the future and the gods." She cast a look at the old shopkeeper, "it was bound to happen sooner or later, I just couldn't tell you with all those people around." I was just realising the gravity of this situation as it dawned on me, we alone knew what will happen. We alone knew about thing as simple as Finding Nemo and has destructive as two great prophecies.
