It had taken hours to go over the building security, especially with resources so limited, but Aileen finally felt comfortable that the building was as secure as they were going to get it. The idea that the MIB's many enemies might be working together though…. If they were and it had to be pretty common knowledge by now that something had happened to the agents…. No, she forced thoughts of that away. She couldn't let herself think of what could happen. She needed to be focused on doing what she needed to do to fix this situation. Kay needed her to do what she had to to fix this.
"Edie, how are things going so far?" She asked as she joined her partner at the monitor board.
"Lyndon called in saying that he notified all of the resident aliens to stay off the streets. And he offered to take over dealing with any ships trying to land. That's something anyway." Edie said.
"Lyndon being helpful. Zed might have a heart attack when he hears about that." Aileen said with a shake of her head. She had a feeling that Zed was going to be seriously surprised at more than a few things when he finally recovered. Lyndon being useful, the worms fighting off Fmecks, actually the worms being helpful in general.
"We really should have gone with that tie for him." X grumbled And he was definitely going to be reminding his partner of how this could have all been avoided for at least the next year once everyone was back on their feet.
"It looks like the Jeedangians are getting a lot of the lower level criminals off the streets." Edie said. "And even though they're lower level, there are a lot of them and they've been creating some major havoc, so having as many of them in lock up as we can manage is definitely good."
"Definitely good." Aileen agreed. Although if there was something going on with the MIB's enemies working together, it would likely involve higher levels than what they were currently dealing with. But if they could get the lower level criminals out of the way or at least cut down the number of them on the loose, it might let them focus on the major criminals who might pose a serious danger to the ill agents. "Where do they need us now?"
"When Lyndon called in last to offer to take over handling ships trying to land, he mentioned a report he had heard about someone named Forbus." Edie said. "Alcidian, and apparently he caused some sort of major problem a few years ago. Apparently someone spotted him lurking around a hospital out in Queens."
"Forbus." Aileen murmured. Suddenly she was more than a bit glad that Kay was currently uneasily sleeping. She knew all too much about what had happened when he had encountered Forbus and she wanted that particular alien kept far, far away from him. "I'll deal with it. I thought he was in the custody of the MIB mental health division. Did they have a breakout there too?" That was the last thing that they needed, unstable aliens running loose on top of all of the criminals.
"No. Apparently he was released last week, and deemed stable. Which I think their definition of stable is a little different than what people generally use, because according what Lyndon said, he was staring at the hospital security cameras with an alarming look and…."
"And cameras were something that triggered him before." Aileen said. "I'll handle it." At least he was focused on security cameras at the moment and not on cameras in the hands of people. That was one good thing anyway. "What hospital did Lydon say that they spotted Forbus at?"
"Elmhurst, I think was the name." Edie told her.
X cringed when he heard the name, remembering that was where he had collected Elle's father and mother. "I should probably go with you." He said. "There might be a few issues with agents being around that hospital at the moment." But they didn't really have any choice but to go there and hopefully prevent an attack and hopefully prevent them from getting arrested if someone had noticed his collection of his partner's parents and had reported it to someone as a kidnapping.
"Fine. Edie, keep doing what you've been doing, going over everything. Coordinate with Chief Zeredon to get the peacekeepers dispatched. We need to bring in the lower level criminals and cut down on the chaos on the streets, but we need to figure out something to do with the upper levels too. They're the ones who could seriously hurt people, and if there's any degree of coordination…."
"Not good if there is." Edie agreed. "I'll handle it." And she was definitely glad that she had managed to get over some of her insecurities. A few years ago seeing her partner going off with someone else like this would have freaked her so badly.
"Agent X, what do you know about that hospital?" Aileen asked as they headed towards the garage. "I know that Kay's mentioned incidents there before." Including an incident involving his brother that Kay had given her very few details about, except that it had been bad and had almost caused him to to break the MIB rules about contact with those from their past lives.
"The MIB has definitely had more than a few incidents there." X said with a shake of his head. "And that's where I found Elle's parents when I went to get a doctor, so we probably need to be careful with how we approach this. If someone saw me collecting them and reported it…."
"We'll need to get in and get out fast." Aileen agreed. She just hoped that Forbus wouldn't do anything before they could get there. They definitely didn't need a repeat of what had happened with him the last time he was on the loose.
A short time later, Aileen let out a sigh of relief as she spotted Forbus in an alleyway beside the hospital. He was still staring up at the security camera and the blinking light on it, and didn't seem to be actively posing a threat yet. And he was still disguised as a human cabbie, so they didn't have that to worry about, anyway. Now if they could get him back into custody without setting him off, although she had no clue what they would do with him once they had him in custody. He needed mental help, and under the current conditions that wasn't going to be available until who knows when.
"Going to steal from me." She heard Forbus muttering as she and X approached. "Going to steal my essence." Exactly how he had been focused before when Kay had dealt with him. Not good, but at least this camera was a security one, not one held by a human.
"Actually it won't." A voice said from down the other end of the alleyway. "The camera's what you mean, right? It's broken and has been off and on for about three weeks now. At the moment the only thing it's possibly stealing is power that ConEd's charging us for." And to Aileen and X's shock a human or apparently human woman came hurrying down the alleyway carrying a fire extinguisher. "If you would feel better about it though, feel free to take a whack at it. That's what I was coming to do. If it's in pieces justifying a replacement from a competent company will be so much easier."
"Does this call for a psych referral?" The woman asked Aileen quietly as Forbus apparently took her suggestion to whack the security camera literally. "And could I ask where in the world all of you people have been for the last few days? Things in the city have been going crazier than normal and there have been a distinct lack of people in black suits to deal with them. What's been going on?"
