Over the next couple of days, I experimented using my power with many different items. This helped me figure out the most efficient ways to attack and increased the number of attacks I can do.
I tried dozens of things: fingers, kicks, chopsticks, nail clipper, paper, hanger, toy sword, switch blade, Swiss army knife, and the list goes on.
Through the experimenting, I found that the efficiency was correlated to two factors: the size of the object, and its sharpness.
Using my fingers or other small objects founded weak attacks. It seemed like the wind blade extended from the objects edge. So, if I wanted a big slash from a small finger or chopstick, it would require more effort. As opposed to the larger slash that would come out of the crowbar.
Using multiple fingers or a row of chop sticks did make the attacks stronger, but it wasn't enough to consider them as options. Simply put they still didn't measure up to the other alternatives.
Items like a switch blade, and Swiss army knife performed quite well. The cleaves were smaller than I'd like but close to the sharpness of the dull knife. Though I quickly stopped testing objects in this category since I'd still find it hard to get permission to use them.
Finally, the toy sword, which was one of the first alternatives I had tried on account of that girl's advice (who's existence I'm ignoring to avoid a headache). This easily yielded the best results.
I also ended up visiting the quirk registration bureau and registering my quirk. The secretary showed a lot of skepticism due to my age. It was easy to prove though as I just picked up a pen and let out a harmless wind slash in front of her.
After that, all I had to do was name the quirk and give them a description of its abilities.
I ended up naming it Cleave. I described it as a wind slash that needs a medium like a bar, pen, or sword to be used. After paying the fee, I officially had a quirk.
All I had to do was get permission for the toy sword. I called UA and after explaining the issue's relation to the upcoming exam I was moved up the ladder surprisingly quick. I ended up speaking with Nezu who said it was easy enough to allow. Mainly since it's not a weapon and it's tied directly to the activation of my quirk.
With all that sorted out, now I just needed to keep training till the exam.
- A few days later -
When I started, I could only fire off about 10 cleaves with the toy sword before reaching my limit.
After which I'd have to rest anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour before being able to fire off any more attacks.
Through repeating that process of shooting and waiting a few times a day I've been able to push it to 12 cleaves. Baby steps.
It also helps that I realized I'd have a lot more cleaves to play with in the exam since I didn't need to fire off one's strong enough to split a fridge in half.
All I had to focus on doing is aiming for the robot's neck, which was a lot smaller than a fridge. After that realization I experimented by only aiming to use half the power compared to before.
The result? Almost 20 cleaves was the limit! So, assuming I get at least one 2 pointers with each slash, that's already 40 points. Throw in some rescue points and I got get a clean sweep in this exam.
I fire off the 20th attack and struggle breathing evenly.
At least, a clean sweep is what I hope will happen. Lots of stuff could go wrong. The robots could have thicker parts than expected which requires more energy, the people taking the exam could be different. If there's lots of people with stronger quirks than in canon, the average passing score could increase as well. Or I might only run into 1 pointer's which would lock me at 20 villain points, guaranteeing a failure.
Even getting into class B is something I'd consider a loss since I would probably miss out on lots of quests and chances to get rolls.
The suns almost set at this point, so I call it a day. After all, I only came today to train my quirk a bit more before the exam tomorrow. Even though I'm pretending that my power is limited, I still train it in different aspects. Different forms of attack, defense, and mobility. It helps that I can use all of them if I ever need to, I'll just have to make the wind invisible to not tip anyone off.
Doing some light stretching I begin a light jog back home. It's weird that I haven't gotten any quests or anything of that sort during my two weeks of training. I'm not sure if this is because of the difficulty or the training was nothing noteworthy. Maybe the quests only align with things that happened in the main story? Something to keep an eye out for.
Jogging back home at the end of the trainings become a routine at this point. Well jogging anywhere actually, and it's already shown fruitful results. Me being out of breath as I make it home feels great. Compared to the very first time where I could swear some of my organs where in visceral pain.
I immediately go to my room to grab my towel and then head to the bathroom to shower. After showering I get on my computer to do research on this world.
On the surface this world doesn't seem all that different to the original show. Well obviously, it's a lot more fleshed out here since this isn't a story anymore. Looking up various Hero organizations, it seems there isn't a Hero commission in each country.
For example, in Britain there's the Queen's Guard. An organization that serves the royal family and protects the country and its citizens from villains. They also have their own schools for people to train their quirks and possibly work in the organization after they graduate. It's less of a popularity contest rather, with fame holding little in the face of achievements. Their wages also reflect this.
I also got to see plenty of interesting things regarding the history of the world. The War on Meta's, where governments and the media ran rampant painting a monstrous image on Quirks to dehumanize people with them.
The Meta-Liberation war, when almost half the world had powers and a large group waged war against all those Anti-Meta. And lastly the UN peace treaty where Quirk became the official designation for those with Meta Abilities. Seemingly a way to distance the modern world from the discriminating past.
But besides all of that, the main thing that caught my attention and made me worried is recent villain news. Various news coverage regarding a large monstrous beast of a villain that has been ravaging the wildlife and countryside of the country.
Reading all the descriptions from eyewitnesses, it's described as a humanoid but jagged body. Sharp teeth and a weird metal object dangling around the neck.
Reading all of that here's no doubt in my mind that it's Gigantomachia. But why? What's All for One playing at here? What's the point of just releasing him, doing some damage, and then disappearing? Could he just be testing new quirks and commands or is he building up to something.
Sighing I close my laptop in a slightly worse mood. Knowing enough to be worried but not enough to know what's going on is aggravating.
- Next Day -
Looking up at the school building makes me feel quite tiny. This feels a lot bigger than it did in the anime.
Taking a deep breath, I stop admiring the building and the amount of tax money that was sunk into this school. I take two steps forward only to get my hand grabbed by Izumi.
"Where do you think you're going! We still haven't taken a picture yet."
Sighing, I turn around as Izumi locks her arms with my left arm and smiles for Inko who has her phone out.
While I do want to get on with it and get to the exam already, I can't help but smile. I never had a sibling in my past life, more so one my age. I also did feel a small sense of longing, probably past Sven residual feelings of wanting to hang out with his sister more.
As the click noise comes out the phone, Inko coos at the picture she just took, saying it's so precious.
"Lemme see!" Izumi runs towards her to check the picture out.
In the corner of my eye, I see familiar spiky ash blonde hair and a face with a permanent frown on it, good ol' Bakugou.
As Bakugou notices me his eyebrows furrow in what I imagine to be confusion. It doesn't last long though, as his expression relaxes, he scoffs and continues walking towards the school. Maybe he reached the same conclusion as my family that I'm going for the general education course.
It's interesting to see though that he doesn't feel the need to bully me like he did Midoriya in the original series. I doubt I showed much interest in being a hero when I was younger, so maybe that's why.
Looking up from the picture Izumi calls for me to come look too, before noticing Bakugou.
"Bakugouu, Good luck!" He continues walking almost as if that wasn't meant for him, though it doesn't seem like it bothered Izumi at all.
"We should get going too Izumi, I'll check out the picture later." I start walking into the school while saying bye to Inko.
"Alriiight" Izumi gives Inko a hug and quickly follows.
With that we make our way inside and into the written exam area.
…
The written exam portion really wasn't that hard when compared to university exams. I wrapped it up quickly and spent the rest of my time checking the other students out. I didn't recognize anyone though.
I walked with Izumi to a spacious lecture hall that looked like it belonged in a university rather than a high school. As she takes a deep breath, she turns around, hugs me, and wishes me luck on the other tests.
It's not like I'm trying to keep it a secret, but at this point I'd rather just explain it one time over dinner to everyone, instead of repeating myself. I give it 5 seconds before walking in behind her. The lecture hall is dark, so I doubt she would've noticed anyways but better safe than sorry.
I think we're meant to sit in specific seats based on regions, schools or something. But since I'd rather not find myself between Izumi and Bakugou, and Mic is going to be loud as is, I choose to sit in the far back.
I find a seat in the back row quickly. Weirdly enough no one's sitting in this last row except one other person, a blonde girl with a long bob haircut. I wonder what school or region this place's supposed to be for. I go sit next to her.
She looks like she's on the verge of passing out. Her heads resting atop her arms on the desk, and her eyes are half closed. Maybe I should wake her up, before Present Mic-
"HELLOOOOOOO LISTENERS!" ….my ears are bleeding and judging by the harsh hiss and glare coming from the blonde I doubt I'm the only one. I'm glad I decided to spare myself extra pain and sit as far away as I can.
His explanation is identical to the anime and since I remember the gist of it, I start tuning out of the lecture and observing the only other person in this row.
The blond girl next to me is dressed simple. She's wearing blue jeans and a tucked in white shirt with a small black vest. I notice some sort of symbol on the blonde girl's vest. As I try to get a good look, I realize my staring has been noticed.
The girl doesn't seem to take offence though, in fact she looks extremely bored. Yawning she props up her chin in the palm of her right hand.
"Where you from?" Her Japanese is a bit botched but good enough to get what she's saying. As I go to respond I pause for a second.
I knew how to speak English in my previous life, and I never really thought about trying to speak it here. I look at the girl appearance. Blonde hair in a bob cut though longer than normal, blue eyes and pale white skin. She looks like she speaks English. Well, it's worth a shot.
"Do you speak English?" It came out normal enough. It felt awkward to say though, almost like my mouth wasn't used to it.
Her eyes shoot wide open as her expression lights up. Her chin leaves her right hand as she perks up in interest. With a grin, she immediately switches to English.
"I knew you were a foreigner too!" She laughs before pausing and looking around. She hums in thought, "Maybe this is the row for internationals since we're the only two here."
That…would make sense, but I feel like there were other English-speaking students in the show.
I chuckle, "Actually, I'm not a foreigner. I just learnt how to speak English at home. Your guess might be spot on about the row though."
That's one thing that I haven't gotten to appreciate all that much, the fact that I can speak fluent Japanese now is great. I can't even imagine what I'd be doing if I was put here without it.
"Huh, really? That's impressive!" She pauses for a second, before continuing. "Hey, what's your na-"
"You two in the back! To have a conversation in such a loud and conspicuous manner is disrespectful towards this institution and the other examinees. If you're not going to take this seriously then leave!"
The girl's mouth settles into a frown and her eyes narrow at Ida. Oh boy, she does seem like the confrontational type too. As she opens her mouth to say something Present Mic cuts in before she gets a chance.
"Alright alright listeners, let's get back on track."
After the explanation's done, we're all asked to go to our designated sites. Leaving the hall and going outside I realize me and the girl are heading for the same bus. As we get on the bus, I decide to continue our conversation from where we left off.
"By the way, my name's Sven" I extend my hand while introducing myself (in English).
She shakes my hands with a smile and introduces herself "My name's Kara, nice to meet you."
I try not to let it show on my face but damn the girl's got a grip.
"How're you feeling about the practical?" She seemed bored earlier, so I imagine she's confident. Well, either that or she doesn't care whether she gets in.
"It'll be a piece of cake" She pauses, "I wanted to ask earlier but is that a sword? I thought we weren't allowed weapons." She inquires while inspecting what's on my back.
The store I got the toy sword wasn't a children's toy store. Instead, it was a cosplay store, so with the toy sword, I was given a shoulder scabbard. The scabbard is resting on my back with the toy sword sheathed in it. It's strapped around chest and waist keeping it securely in position.
"It's not a weapon, it's a toy sword. It's a bit embarrassing but I can't use my quirk without it" I pull it out of the sheath and hand it to her.
She hums while examining it. "That's a serious limitation. Do you think you'll get in?"
"I will." I answer with confidence, I trust the training I did with my powers will get me a spot. And if people like Mineta or that invisible girl can get into 1A, then I've got no excuse.
She smiles, seemingly content at my answer, and hands back the sword. I assume it'd be nice for her if someone from her class spoke English.
Finally reaching our destination, we get off the bus and stand in front of the gate. I look around and see people doing various things to get their head in the game. Some are taking deep breaths and are getting their quirks ready.
Kara's eyes are locked on the door, I guess she's eager for it to open. I place my hand on the handle of the toy sword, just to make sure it's there and help calm myself down.
New Quest
Objective: Pass the entrance exam!
Reward: 1 Roll
Bonus Objective: ?
Finally, a quest-
"BEGIN" A shout startles me as the doors fling open quickly.
It takes me a second to register what happened, but I quickly snap out of it. It helps that Kara immediately blasts off flying into the fake city.
I start running as well. Flight quirk huh? Neat.
It takes everyone else an extra second to start running.
I soon spot a destroyed 3-pointer in the street Kara went in. Damn, were these things this big in the anime too? It's the size of a tank. Well, a tank with a hole through the top of it…
Since I don't want to just find destroyed robots I decide to keep running past that street and go through another part of the city.
A 1- pointer bursts through one of the walls ahead of me and starts charging at me. I hesitate for a second since I really should only be going for 2 or 3 pointers but…
No time for indecisiveness, I duck under it's swing fist and pull out the sword from the sheath. I swing my sword at its neck and decapitate it with a cleave. One point.
I limited the output there by a lot since the 1 pointers have much thinner necks compared to the 2 and 3 pointers. I continue running since the other examinees weren't stuck in a state of stupor for more than a few seconds. Already, there's a bunch of people on this street with me.
While this exam is a competition for points, it's also a game of speed as I need to get to the robots before other examinees. Looking around I start running as every other robot in sights already being targeted. As I run past, I notice the damage on them. Some are wrapped up and crushed by green vines or melted with acid.
I turn another corner and spot three robots. Two 2-pointers and one 1-pointer. Swinging my sword, I fire off a normal power cleave but make my swing much wider. The long wind slash cuts through the necks of the two pointers and the top of the one pointers head. 6 points!
I try to keep a lookout for people who I can help or aid in a casual and innocent way but no luck. I'll just have to keep an eye out when the zero pointer get released.
...
I huff as the exhaustion is catching up to me. Unfortunately, I kept running into more one pointers than I'd like. But I should have 25 points now. The longer this exam goes on the harder it is to find more robots. I'm trying to not let the frustration get to me. There should still be a little before the zero-
A tremendous tremor almost causes me to fall. Looking back, all I see is falling debris as a behemoth of a robot stands taller than all the buildings in the area. One large rock lands a few feet to my right.
…...Motherfuckers are they trying to get me killed?!
Everyone starts running the other way to get as far away from the zero pointer as possible. This is bad, if I remember right, the exam ends a minute or two after it's released.
I turn around and get ready to bolt, maybe I can help people who tripped? Rescue points are realistically the only way I can pass right now-
"Help!" A high pitched, almost snobby voice is heard.
Bingo! I turn around looking for my savior. I see a small, purple haired- are those balls? Oh sweet, beautiful Mineta thank you for the rescue points.
He's limping away from the chaos while shouting for help while the big behemoth is getting closer and closer. I run towards him and start my Oscar worthy performance.
"Are you okay?!"
I notice another piece of debris is heading towards him. Pulling out the toy sword I swing it twice. Horizontally and vertically, blasting two cleaves at the debris.
The big rock crumbles and misses him by a few feet, my arms are throbbing, I'm really starting to feel it.
"It's my leg, a rock hit it I- I can't walk-" I cut him off as I grab him by the collar and carry him in a princess carry. He's not light as he looks.
I struggle to jog while carrying him due to the fatigue. I won't be outrunning the zero pointer, or at least the damage it's causing that's for sure.
Looking around for an alleyway to go through I only see ones that lead to a dead end. I look back to my impending doom while jogging- is it getting ready to hurl more debris at us?!
As I get ready to drop Mineta and pull out my sword, something tears through the zero pointer's head from the back.
…. huh?
As the lights on the robot flicker, it shuts down and starts falling forwards.
Ha ha, fuck me.
I drop the screaming Mineta on the ground and grab my sword. I'll pretend like I slashed through it when it fell on us, but I'll just make a shield or bubble. I grit my teeth as I make an extremely dense wind dome around us-
"Oops, I should've thought of how it was going to fall." Someone's says with a sheepish laugh.
I stop what I'm doing and despite the pulsing pain from my whole body I look up to see Kara holding up the zero pointer with one hand.
She pulls back her right hand and punches the zero pointer. A loud clang can be heard as she sends the robot falling onto its backside far from all the other examinees and into another building.
…. What?
"Holy crap!" Mineta, still on the ground, is rightfully amazed.
She zooms towards us and stops a few feet away. I look at Kara's hair as it flutters in the wind and finally focus in on the symbol on her jacket.
She smiles "Are you two, okay?"
"…Hey, is the symbol on your jacket an S?"
Her eyebrows furrow at the random question, but she answers nonetheless.
"…. No, it's a symbol of my family. It means Hope" She explains with a frown. I barely see it as my vision is getting darker and darker.
Supergirl huh, neat. At least she's on the side of the angels, I think as I pass out.
- Nezu -
The UA entrance exams are nothing if not interesting. As the exam is almost done, I observe the top scorers so far. There was never a question on who the top scorer would be the moment I conceded and gave Kara permission to participate, but some examines are surprisingly close.
Turning to my left, All Might's mouth is agape. Following his line of sight, I can only assume he's staring at the monitor with his son on it, who is running away from the zero pointer…. That's about to hurl debris at them?
In hindsight maybe the zero pointer was programmed to cause a little too much destruction. Cementoss should be moving to interfere- ah. There goes Kara blowing right through its head.
….. And there goes gravity carrying the giant into the two examinees' path.
I let out a small sigh of relief as Kara stops it from falling. Relief turns into exasperation though as she immediately decides to smash it into the opposite direction.
After making a note in my head to have a talk with Kara later, I turn back to All Might who still hasn't gotten over his shock it seems.
"I take it you didn't know about your son's choice to participate in the test?"
"I…no- I knew but I thought he was taking the exam for the general education department."
"Hm? Now why's that?"
"Well, he is- was…." All might sigh. "He should be quirkless as far as I know"
My body stills as I go to sip my tea…. oh my, now that would be the bad type of interesting.
Looking back at a specific monitor, I stare at the passed-out Sven Yagi as he's rushed to recovery girl by Kara. Now wasn't that an interesting case. A quirk awakening so late in someone's life is unheard of, not to mention that odd limitation.
I had assumed All Might chose to keep his son's quirk a secret. And that even after only recently getting it registered, he added unreasonable weaknesses to it, possible to hide a powerful quirk from someone. Perhaps I thought too deeply into it and got ahead of myself.
This isn't something we can talk about here in the examination room, but I should still confirm this. Putting the cup down I turn to face All Might
"Are you absolutely sure of this?"
He nods solemnly, both our minds understanding the rather serious implications of this.
While I normally would not jump to conclusions, he's been far too active recently to just brush this under the rug. His pet project been ravaging the countryside and maiming some local heroes. While the league of villains has been gaining more members as news of its leaders' "philosophy" spread.
And now, a quirkless person suddenly gaining a quirk, someone so old too? It just screams of a ploy from him
What's All for One playing at here?
Author's Note: I recently watched season 2 of My Adventures with Superman, and I really wanted to write something with Kara in it. So here we are lol.
I just made a discord server, mainly so I can upload pictures of characters alongside chapter releases. I see other authors do that on their servers and it's cool, so I wanted to try it too lol.
So, the servers mainly for that, not planning anything else for it. I'll still have a place to chat if people want to. If you're interested here's the link and there should be one in my profile too!

Lastly, I forgot to mention it last chapter. But besides DarkWolfShiro fics, the main inspiration for this setting was a Villain Deku fanfic from Wattpad (that I read years ago). You might be familiar with the setting of Midoriya having a twin sister and is All Might's kid, he's quirkless and neglected, etc etc. I always wondered how it would be if it was a little more realistic and not just overblown and edgy with writers making the neglect overly dramatic. So this is kind of my take on that setting!

Ch2 Reviews:
-I'm glad you're enjoying the story! About the inventory: first, I wanted it to be less about utility and just storing specific items he gets from rolls (since this is mainly a Gacha System) and since anything above rare is temp, he doesn't need many slots anyways. You can also just see at as another aspect of the hard-core difficulty! As for the rest, you'll just have to wait and see :)
-I get what you're saying. Keep in mind though that at the end of the day the powers he gets is (mostly) up to chance. So, it's not like he's going to remain weak for the remainder of the story. Also. An underdog doesn't necessarily mean someone who stays weak forever, just someone who starts off in an unfavorable position.
