"What are they doing here?" Haley asked, eyeing Lucas suspiciously as Brooke and Peyton burst through the front door.

Lucas had come back to Jake's not longer after their discussion to fetch Haley to their next destination. Haley had been grateful for Jake's insight. It helped her sort through a few decisions she would possibly have to make in the near future.

Haley was under the impression that Lucas was dragging her home once they left Jake's. Instead, Lucas had driven them to his house. He figured it would give him and Haley some alone time before his mother got home and started asking a plethora of questions.

However, Lucas had left out the minor detail that Peyton and Brooke were on their way over. Lucas' errand he had to run at Jake's was no errand at all. He stepped outside onto Jake's porch and phoned Peyton who relayed the message to Brooke. Lucas didn't go into much details, but asked them to meet at his place and bring a pregnancy test.

"Don't hate me, but I called them here," Lucas admitted.

"Yeah, Lucas just asked us to pick up a pregnancy test on your behalf," Brooke added, shaking the plastic bag in her hands.

Haley's eyes widened. "You told them?" Haley asked. She thought Lucas would respect her wishes and at least keep this a secret until she was ready to tell people or until she started to show. If this was his form of payback after sleeping with Nathan, then it was well deserved.

"No, I called Peyton and told her to come over and bring a pregnancy test. I didn't give her any details," Lucas insisted. Although, it didn't take a genius for the girls to discern who the tests were for.

"Then what is Brooke doing here?" Haley questioned. Though her and Brooke recently reconciled their differences after Brooke's apology, she didn't trust her to blab this information all over school.

"Someone had to pick up the pregnancy test without people finding out it was for you," Brooke explained.

Tree Hill was a small town, leaving everyone to know everyone's business. Haley couldn't purchase one for obvious reasons without it immediately getting out to Nathan. If Lucas bought one in her behalf, people would have put two and two together since he was her best friend. And Peyton was out of the picture because others would think she was the one pregnant with Nathan's baby. Brooke had no skin in the game unlike the others.

Brooke tossed the plastic bag to Haley and she miraculously caught it. Taking the pregnant test out of the bag, she went down to the hall bathroom by herself. It was now or never.

"How you feeling?" Peyton asked Lucas, moving to his side to rub his back. Her and Lucas were not dating, yet, but Peyton wanted to show Lucas a touch of tenderness. If they were going to attempt a relationship in the near future, she wanted to prove herself as a caring and compassionate partner. It was new for her as her relationship with Nathan was not built on that foundation or any foundation.

"Shocked, more than anything. Haley's the smartest person I know, she wouldn't have made a mistake like this," Lucas said. He still couldn't fathom how Haley could have missed protection altogether. She was always so cautious. Haley still looked down the street four times before crossing the road.

"I doubt it was Haley's fault," Brooke commented. "Nathan probably couldn't have waited to..." Brooke trailed off at the 'shut up' looks Peyton and Lucas were giving her. Obviously, they didn't want to hear what she had to say. "And I am going to shut up now."

Haley emerged from the bathroom holding her pregnancy test. "Two minutes," Haley announced, setting a timer on Lucas' microwave.

"So what are you going to do if you're pregnant? Are you going to keep the baby? Get an abortion? Put it up for adoption?" Brooke questioned. She'd never known someone her age in this predicament and was curious to know what was running through their head, especially since this was Tutor Girl.

"Brooke!" Peyton scolded. She didn't want to stress Haley out anymore than she already was. "I'm sorry for her, sometimes she doesn't know when to stop talking."

"It's okay," Haley assured them. "I've given it some thought recently, and I think I would want to keep the baby."

"That's if you're pregnant," Lucas reminded her.

Haley had held onto that single 'if' all day long. The great part about not knowing whether or not she was pregnant was that she could choose to ignore all the symptoms and tell herself she was not pregnant. Once those two minutes ran up, Haley's life would forever be changed.

"So what are you going to do about Nathan?" Brooke wonder aloud. Seeing as the potential baby daddy wasn't around made it clear that the two haven't made up since Saturday.

"I'm going to tell him," Haley said. She had planned on telling Nathan the news once she got confirmation. After that, she would leave the ball in his court. "It's his choice whether or not he wants to be there for me. I'm not going to force anything on him."

"Well if Nathan decides to be dumbass, you've got me Tutor Girl," Brooke promised. In the very little time she'd known Haley, she could tell why the Scott boys had taken a liking to her. She was kind, but feisty. Haley had a little spunk in her. Brooke liked that quality in her friends.

"She's right, Hales. We won't let you go through this alone," Lucas confirmed on behalf of him and Peyton's whose hands had entwined together. "And if Nathan doesn't want any part of my niece or nephew's life, then they'll have their Uncle Lucas like I have Keith."

It warmed Haley's heart to know that all these people had her back and were willing to step up if Nathan wouldn't. She adored Lucas' Uncle Keith. He was the perfect father figure to Lucas and genuinely such a good guy all around. The thought of Lucas stepping up like Keith was relief. At least her child would have a male role model in his or her life.

Their heads turned the second they heard the microwave beep. The two minutes of waiting were officially over. Haley's grabbed her test from the hall table, which had been placed face down, and rushed to see her results.

"There has yet to a test that I didn't pass," Haley commented, showing Lucas, Peyton, and Brooke the results. "I'm pregnant."

Lucas, Peyton, and Brooke all stared in silence unsure of how to react. Could they say congratulations? This was a joyous moment for most people, but most people weren't seventeen with an unplanned pregnancy.

"I'm pregnant," Haley repeated, allowing the words to sink in. A part of her knew the answer already, but now she had the confirmation in her hands. "I'm going to have a baby."

Brooke was the only one brave enough to speak first. "How are you feeling?" Brooke asked.

Haley allowed her hands to fall onto her stomach, clutching it for the first time since the news broke. "Relieved, terrified, happy," Haley admitted feeling a myriad of emotions.

After her conversation with Jake, she had begun to accept the fact that she could be pregnant, and perhaps being a mother was something that was in the cards for her all along. Nathan simply sped that process significantly.

"If you ever need anything, someone to drive you to appointments, pick up ice cream at random hours of the night, just give any of us a call," Peyton said. She wanted to make an effort getting to know Haley. If this thing with Lucas was ever going to be serious, then she might as well get along with his friends.

"I didn't know we were having a party," Karen commented walking in to her house. Business was slow at the café, so she decided to close early for the night. Haley quickly took her pregnancy test and hid it in her back pocket.

"Mom, this is Brooke and Peyton," Lucas introduced, praying that his mom would be silent. He told his mother about both of girls, the one who wanted his attention and the other who captivated it. Thankfully, him and Brooke had resolved their issues and there was only Peyton.

"Oh," Karen nodded knowingly.

"And we were just leaving," Brooke said, grabbing Peyton by the hand to take them out of the house. They had overstayed their welcome and wanted to give Haley, Lucas, and Karen some time alone. "You have a lovely home."

"Thanks," Karen said to the girls rushing out of her house. She turned her attention back to Lucas who had Haley by his side. "I'm glad to see you guys worked things out."

"Me too, Karen," Haley said. She glanced at Lucas briefly, wondering if this was the time she should tell Karen the truth.

"Okay, what is going on?" Karen asked, noticing the worried expressions on Lucas and Haley's faces. She could read those two like an open book.

"Mom, you might want to sit down for this," Lucas advised.

"Okay, is everything alright?" Karen started to worry whilst taking a seat. Something had to be wrong for Haley and Lucas to be behaving in such a way. Their relationship recently had been strained, yet there they were together, needing to have a conversation with her. She could not imagine that this would be good news in any way.

"I'm pregnant," Haley admitted. She pulled the positive pregnancy test out of her back pocket and handed it to Karen.

Karen examined it in shock. She definitely was not expecting this today. Holding the test in her hands brought her back to her senior year of high school when she found herself in the same situation with Dan. Her eyes widened at the realization of who the father was. "It's Nathan's, isn't it?" Haley nodded her head and started to cry, cursing herself and the hormones rushing through her. "Come here."

Karen moved over on the couch and gestured for her to take a seat. Haley went over to Karen and was engulfed by her arms, assuring her everything was going to be alright.

"Please don't hate me," Haley cried.

"Why would I hate you?" Karen asked. "I think I'm the last person to pass judgment regarding your situation. I was only a year older than you when I found out I was pregnant with Lucas."

"But at least you were with Dan. Nathan just used me just to get back at Lucas for joining the basketball team," Haley explained. Nathan didn't need to outright say it for Haley to understand what her part was in Nathan's scheme. She had figured it out on her own. By Nathan keeping the tape, she understood that it was his intention to show Lucas once he they finished their tutoring session.

Lucas was livid at the revelation. This was the first time he was hearing about this. He was already angry at Nathan for sleeping with Haley, but using her to get back at him was a whole new level. Nathan threw Haley aside once he was done with her and now she was living with the consequences of it. Lucas would kill him if given the chance.

"I guess you're right," Karen said, wiping away Haley's tears. Though Dan had cast her aside and broke Karen's heart once he found out about the pregnancy, Haley had been manipulated by Dan's other son and the result was a child. "But look at me. Our situations aren't that different if you think about it. Dan and Nathan aren't father-of-the-year types, but I had Keith to help me through it just like you have Lucas."

Haley chuckled to herself realizing the irony of their situation. She remembered a tutoring lesson with Nathan just last week. He had questioned why they had to learn about history and Haley quickly retorted with, "otherwise we are doomed to repeat it." If only she had listened to her own advice.

"But you know what the difference is?" Karen continued. Haley shook her head. "All I had was Keith as a support system. My parents kicked me out, and gosh, I don't even know when's the last time I saw them. Not only do you have Lucas, but you also have me and Keith. And your parents."

Haley knew her parents wouldn't kick her out for getting pregnant. Taylor had pregnancy scares throughout high school and neither of her parents yelled or condemned her for it. Lydia and Jimmy would be supportive behind her one hundred percent. They already had five grandchildren, just from their oldest three, who's to say they wouldn't welcome a sixth.

"Don't forget about Brooke and Peyton, or even Jake," Lucas added. Haley's immediate circle of trusted individuals had increased tremendously and was thankful that she was not alone. "We'll all be there for you."

Haley walked into her house later than she'd expected. Keith had shown up to Lucas' unexpectedly, where she had to relay all the information of the past forty eight hours to him with help from Lucas and Karen.

Keith sat there stoically and listened, and like Karen, did not pass off any judgement. Him and Karen were always on the same page and had been for years. They were practically her and Lucas, minus all the sexual tension. Lucas and her were counting down the days until they finally realized they were perfect together.

When it was revealed that Nathan was the father, Keith couldn't help but get angry. He was never particularly close with his other nephew as he watched Dan poison his brain. Nathan was raised to be a mini version of Dan Scott. Seeing as Haley had found herself in the same position as Karen at nearly the same age, Nathan was following in his father's footsteps.

Lucas and Karen were able to calm Keith down eventually. When they had, he saw the brokenness in Haley. Always fierce and strong, he was saddened to see her this way. Keith, like Karen and Lucas, assured her everything would be alright and that this kid would have the best uncle in the world with Lucas.

He was grateful that Lucas was there for Haley to help her through this. At least, one of Dan's sons had turned out to be a respectful young man. Keith hoped that he was able to do that for Lucas and that Lucas would return the favor with Haley's child.

It was nearing ten by the time Haley had to leave, if she was going to go to school the next morning, she may as well as try to get some sleep. Today went down in the books as one of the most emotionally exhausting days in her life.

She noticed her mom in the living room as she walked into the house. Her mom was on the couch needle pointing. Lydia and Jimmy were pretty lax when it came to Haley since she was the last kid. She had no curfew and could practically go anywhere she wanted without parental approval. However, Haley had tried to maintain those boundaries with her parents.

"Haley-Bob, you're home," Lydia commented, not bothering to look up from her needle point. "Your Aunt Sylvia called, your cousin is going to be staying with us for a while his parents work out their divorce."

Great, Haley thought. Another thing to make her life more difficult. Don't get her wrong, she loved her cousin, but this was not the appropriate time for another person to be staying with them as she was preparing for the baby.

Haley took a deep breath and went to the living room. She had told a handful of people today about her pregnancy and confided in them, but still hadn't managed to muster up the courage to tell her parents. With her cousin's imminent arrival, she had to brace her parents that there would be another person joining them in a few months.

Being the youngest child, there was this idea that she was supposed to be the reckless one, but out of all Lydia and Jimmy's kids, Haley had been the most responsible, goal oriented, and driven. She was going places. She didn't want to disappoint them with the news.

"Can I talk to you?" Haley asked, taking a seat across from her mother.

"Jimmy!" Lydia called out for her husband, who was in the kitchen getting a beer. "Haley's pregnant." Haley's eyes jumped out of their sockets hearing her mother say those words before she had the chance to. "Don't look so surprised, we've known for a week."

"She finally confessed?" Jimmy asked, taking a sip of his beer.

"How'd you guys figure it out?" Haley questioned. She didn't even consider the possibility of pregnancy until yesterday, with it only being confirmed hours ago.

"You act as if we don't have six kids," Lydia said. "We know the signs." Once Haley puked for the second day in a row, early in the morning last week, Lydia had figured it out and reported back to her husband. They assumed Haley herself didn't know, so they kept their mouths shut until she came to them.

"So do I have to march up to Lucas' with a shotgun?" Jimmy joked. Lydia and Jimmy figured Lucas was the father. Haley rarely spent her time with any other guys. They assumed Lucas and Haley would get together eventually so none of this was a huge surprise.

"It's not Lucas'," Haley explained.

For the first time this past week, Lydia and Jimmy were shocked. The pregnancy did not phase them as much as this revelation. They did not even know Haley was seeing someone.

"Then whose is it?" Lydia asked.

Haley gulped, "Nathan Scott's."

"As in Lucas' half-brother? Captain of the basketball team?" Lydia pressed for confirmation.

"Yes," Haley confirmed. Neither Jimmy nor Lydia had expected that answer. They all heard Haley complain about Nathan, so it was natural for them to not even consider the possibility. From what they knew, she hated him. "And before you ask, it was a onetime thing. I was really drunk."

"You drank?" Jimmy questioned, not angrily but surprised. Haley was a good kid and purposefully never drank. Even when him and Lydia had offered, she would decline.

"One time," Haley insisted.

"How far along are you?" Lydia asked.

Haley counted in her head the number of weeks it had been since that night at the beach house. "Probably somewhere around six weeks," Haley guessed.

"Have you been to the doctors?" Lydia questioned.

"Not yet. I just found out today," Haley explained, although she made a mental note to call the doctor's tomorrow to make an appointment.

"Have you told Nathan yet?" Jimmy asked.

"That's my plan for tomorrow," Haley said. That was part of the reason she planned on going to school. She wanted him to find out from her, not anyone else. That would only make him mad. Despite all the gossip and glares, Nathan had to know the truth, even if he decided to walk away.

"Are you prepared for the possibility that he might want nothing to do with you and the baby?" Lydia asked. She was ten years older than Dan and Karen, but remembered the scandal that shook Tree Hill when it came out that Dan had left Karen while she was pregnant. She remembered even hearing that he got another girl pregnant at college and decided to stay with his current girlfriend because her family came from money. And then she heard the story repeated through Haley as she was best friends with Lucas. If Nathan was anything like his father, which Lydia had gathered from his behavior, then there was a real chance that he would not be there for Haley or their baby.

"I've already thought about that and I'm prepared on raising this child without him," Haley said. It wasn't ideal being a single parent, although being pregnant at seventeen wasn't ideal either. "You know, you guys are surprisingly being cool about this. I thought you would be more disappointed in me."

"Why would we be disappointed in you, Haley-Bob?" Lydia asked, never once did she feel that way about Haley or her situation.

"Because I'm pregnant at seventeen. I'm the most responsible of your kids and I screwed up. I had plans. I was going to go to Stanford, and you guys aren't the tiniest bit disappointed?" Haley asked.

"You said it yourself, you'd screwed up. Everyone screws up at some point in their life, maybe not this big, but we would never hold it against you," Jimmy explained. He was proud of Haley and her owning up to her mistakes like she always had. He hated the situation on her behalf, but was impressed with how she was handling it. From a young age, she'd always been the most mature of his children.

"And though you're pregnant, Stanford isn't immediately off the table. It'll be hard, yes, but you're always up for the challenge. You still have time to figure all this out. You're only a junior," Lydia added.

If anyone could figure out how to raise a baby while in school, it would be Haley. So efficient in everything she did, she would find a way to make it work.
