Chapter 30: Truth

"It's good to see you, Ven."

"Nice to see you too." The boy sat down in the cricket's office, looking down at Chirithy in his arms. "Jiminy… I just wanted to say I'm sorry. I should have mentioned the dreams before, but I just…"

"No need to apologize." Jiminy took a sip from his tiny teacup. "We're dealing with them now. And, who is this?"

"My name is Chirithy. I'm a dream eater."

"Interesting." The cricket picked up his notebook and turned to a new page. "So, tell me about these dreams."

"Well, they're more like… memories…"

"Wow." Jiminy leaned back in his chair. "That's- that's a lot to take in."

"You're telling me." Ven leaned back as well. "Chirithy didn't want to tell me about them because they were too painful, but after that last dream, I just had to know what happened to that girl, Strelitzia."

"I understand that. And how do you feel about the rest of your lost memories?"

The boy looked down at his little friend in his arms. "I don't think I want to remember them yet. They seem really painful. But also, I don't want to forget those old friends I had, but I don't know if I can really remember them without remembering the pain."

Jiminy looked at the boy, a gentle smile crossing his face. "Well, why don't you tell me what you do know about them?"

"Ephemer… he was a boy with white hair. I remember he was really nice. His name is the only one I remember." His hand went to his scarf before he rubbed the long black glove on his hand. "And there was a girl; she was kinda like a sister to me. There was another boy-" His hand moved to the black coat he wore. "He had a black hat. He and Ephemer were kinda like our leaders, I think. He was very hopeful." He grabbed the vest and white shirt he wore. "And there was another boy… I remember him. I remember that I was hurt or something once. I'd passed out, and he took care of me. He felt like a big brother…"

"Yeah," Chirithy nodded, "they were your friends."

Jiminy looked at Ven, eyes darting across his appearance. "Did you change your clothes to reflect what you remembered about them?"

"I did." He touched the red ribbon on his arm. "And this is for Strelitzia. She had red ribbons in her hair. I don't want to forget any of them."

"Do you know what happened to them?"

"No."

Chirithy spoke up. "Some of them are… dead. They died a long time ago. And some went missing, and probably lost their memories, like you did."

"Really? I wonder if I could find those who are missing."

"Maybe you could."

Ven let out a long sigh. "But really, I'm not sure what to do with these memories."

"Well," Jiminy leaned forward, "I have an idea. It's something that works for regular nightmares, and I think it would work well here too. Keeping a dream journal. The moment you wake up, whether it's a good or bad dream, write down everything you can remember down to the smallest detail. How you felt during the dream. This will help you identify themes in your dreams, and it will help you process events."

Smiling, Ven gave Chirithy's head a pat. "I like that idea. And being able to control my dreams, should help Chirithy's job out too."

"I'm sure it will."

Ven's gaze drifted down to the dream eater. "Though, to be honest, I'm a little angry."

"At?"

His face shifted away. "At Chirithy…" The dream eater shrunk down a bit as Ven turned his words toward him. "I wish you would've been more honest with me. I know you tried to keep me safe, but I wish you would've been more honest about how bad my past was, that way I could make a better decision to remember or not. I know you showed me some memories that hurt, but I just got more curious."

"I just wanted to protect you." Chirithy nuzzled into the boy's lap, sniffling a little. "You're my best friend, and I didn't want you to suffer."

Wrapping his arms around the little figure, Ven smiled. "I understand, but it still hurt that you kept so much from me."

"I-I'm sorry."

"I forgive you."

A smile crossed Jiminy's face as he watched the two sit in silence for a minute, embracing.

He didn't know where Chirithy came from nor how he knew Ven's past, but he could see that Ven meant a lot to the little dream eater.

"I think, together, we can go through these memories one at a time. Maybe you two should start coming to visit me every other week."

"Yeah."

"And you don't need to tell Terra and Aqua the details as to why if you don't want to. It's up to you to tell them, if you ever really want to, when you're ready."

Ven nodded. "I think I'll wait. I just want answers first."

Chirithy nodded. "Maybe I can let you feel the emotions of a memory before you choose to remember it or not."

"That sounds like a great way to start. If you two want, we can try one right now."

They both nodded.

"I actually really want to know something." Ven leaned back again. "I remember waking up in the Keyblade Graveyard when Master Xehanort found me, but all my dreams are in another place. I think that's where I came from before. Chirithy… where did I come from?"

The dream eater paused.

"What's wrong?"

"I'm afraid that answer will just bring about a lot more questions and confusion."

Jiminy's eyes met Ven's; the boy nodded. "Then, we'll work through that confusion together."

"Very well." Chirithy sighed before looking at Ven. "The place you've been seeing, and where you're from is called Daybreak Town."

"WHAT!?" The boy leapt to his feet. "Th-that's not possible!"

Jiminy's eyes widened. "Ven? What's wrong?"

"Daybreak Town… I learned about it in my training. Th-that's the world… the-the world that came before the first Keyblade War! When all the worlds were one!"

"Oh my! Chirithy, are you serious?"

He nodded. "I warned you this would bring more questions."

"Yeah it does! How? How did I get here? What… what happened?"

"Calm down, Ven." Jiminy laughed, leaning back in his chair. "We'll certainly deal with this one memory at a time. But, I have to admit, this was not at all what I was expecting. Honestly, it's a little exciting."

"It is!" Ven scooped Chirithy up. "I never imagined… Am I really from- from Daybreak Town?"

"You are."

"I have SO many questions…"

Jiminy took another sip of his tea. "Well, we will figure it all out, together."

"Yeah, together."

That happened.
