Hangtown - Volume VI
THE NEXT DAY
Phoebus walks into the school and meets up with Quasimodo in the hallway to continue their conversation from last night
"Hey man", says Phoebus greeting him
"Hey", responds Quasimodo
"Are you excited or what?"
"To be honest…I kinda am"
"I still can't believe that your parents said yes"
"I know, I can't believe it too, it's like a new feeling for me, and it feels pretty great"
"Well, I'm happy you feel that way, bud"
As Phoebus and Quasimodo were continuing their conversation, Esmeralda was walking in the hallway and saw the two boys talking, she went up to approach the both of them"
"Hey you two", she says not trying to really interrupt their conversation
"Hey Esmeralda, it's been a while, how have you been?" says Quasimodo
"Yeah Quasi I agree, it has been a while…I've been doing fine, thanks for asking", she gives him a smile, "How have you been doing?"
"I've been doing alright, me and Phoebus were discussing your and Naveen's party"
"Oh really, and…"
"And, we are telling you that we are going to be there" chimed Phoebus finishing the sentence
"Really, that's great! did your parents actually allow this to happen?", she questioned
"Believe it or not, but yeah they did"
"Awesome, because Naveen wanted me to see who was actually going to show up or not"
"Oh, okay cool, um…well, yes me and Quasi will be there so…let all the people (snaps fingers and does a point), watch out"
Esmeralda looks at him a bit awkwardly and is internally questioning why he would do something like that, she responds with
"Okay, cool, I'll let everyone know that, see you there"
"Yeah you too"
"Yeah, see you there", chimed Quasimodo as she gave them a wave and a smile as she walked off. Phoebus turned to Quasimodo and told him
"Dude, I don't know why the hell I did that motion?"
"Me either, maybe because you wanted to look cool," said Quasimodo
"Quasi, If I wanted to do something cool, I wouldn't do what I just did, just now"
Quasimodo nods his head in agreeance
"Maybe, because I'm excited about this party, I never really experienced something like what we are about to experience next weekend"
"Same here", chimed in a girl's voice not so far off in the distance. She was wearing a turquoise colored blouse with jeans, and pink flats. She also had a pearl necklace and her bright and vivid red hair was tucked in a ponytail.
"Oh hey Ariel, how have you been?", asked Quasimodo
"I've been doing well, how about you Quasimodo? Phoebus?"
"I've been doing fine"
"Same here" responded Phoebus, "I guess you heard about the party as well, huh"
"Yeah, and I share some of the same sentiments you two have as well since I wasn't really able to go to parties as much, and neither were my sisters unless we were with each other"
"Oh that's right, I forgot how many you have", chimed in Quasimodo
"Six"
"What!", exclaimed Phoebus, "I didn't know you had six sisters?"
Ariel chuckled a bit, "Um…yeah, Phoebus, it's like public knowledge that I have a lot of siblings. Did you forget that when we were all freshmen, Arista was graduating, Adella was a Junior, and Andrina was a sophomore"
Phoebus starts to flashback a bit until he realizes what Ariel is saying
"Oh, that's right because I remembered that you four dressed a bit similarly to each other"
"See, there you go!", exclaimed Ariel, "Now you remember"
"Yeah sorry about that, been thinking about a lot of things this year and the present, starting to have my past slip away"
"Well, it's important to keep the memories so that you always have something to look back on, like how me and Eric became a couple," Ariel says while looking outside the window briefly
"Yeah you're right, Um, if you see him, tell him I said hello on the off chance I don't see him"
"Will do"
"Hey, Ariel", chimed Quasimodo
"Yeah"
"You didn't give us an answer if you were showing up to the party?"
"Well, Quasimodo, it is a yes, looking forward to you two there", she says as she makes her exit
"Yeah, see you there"
"See ya there", says Quasimodo as he and Phoebus continue their conversation
"Man that was nice talking to her", said Quasimodo
"Same here"
"Gets me really excited now to know that people we really don't see that often are going to this party"
"Why is that?"
"Because Phoebus, it's a chance to reconnect and a chance to talk with them on a regular basis." Quasimodo starts to talk with a hint of seriousness in his tone, "Look man, when I started freshman year, I was uncertain if I was going to keep the same friendships I had in middle school, and for a while that was the case, but this party, and I know it's a Naveen party, but still, this could be a night that you, me, and everyone that shows up are possibly never going to forget…for different reasons other than mines, but that's the way I'm seeing it, a chance for greater social interactions with different people"
Before Phoebus had a chance to respond he paused for a bit. He realizes that this is just going to be another dumb party, but he is willing to account for all the other reasons, why this party is going to be meaningful, in a sense
"Woah, didn't really look at it in that way", said Phoebus reflecting on what Quasimodo had to say
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Knock yourself out"
"What is this party going to mean for you?"
"To be honest Quasi, I'm not really sure, but hearing what you had to say, I guess there is some meaning to all of this, even though it's a party that most people are going to forget"
"Yeah, I guess you're right, maybe those people don't find the meaning"
"Oh trust me bud, they are going to find some meaning, a bit of something else…"
The two shared a pause and shared a laugh out of the comment
"What was that supposed to mean?", said Quasimodo who was still in hysterics
"Honestly, I don't know, guess we will find out at the party"
"Well, I guess we will"
The two boys continue down the hallway to get ready for the first half of classes for the day. The first half of classes are finished and they are, well, the same old, same old. The two reunite in the hallway to head for the lunch tables for well…lunch. They find a spot, talk, and eat. Further down in the lunch hall, we see the couple that's the topic of conversation having some chats about the big event right around the corner
"So, babe, what are we looking like so far?", said Naveen
"Everything is looking great, I've asked a few people so far about the party and people are going and people are excited", stated Esmeralda
"Yes, perfect, not as perfect as you, but still perfect"
"Aw, well thanks", she said giving him a small smile"
"Let's talk about something else as equally important…the prom"
Esmeralda's eyes open a little wide when Naveen mentions the prom. The reason is she's been more involved in the party rather than thinking about prom
"Um…Esmeralda", says Naveen trying to get her attention, "Is everything alright with you sweetheart?"
"Uh, yeah babe, everything is fine"
"Are you sure? it looks like it isn't"
"I promise I'm good, now what were you on about when you mentioned prom?"
"I just wanted to know what outfits we were going to wear, I was thinking me in a three-piece green tuxedo and you in an elegant green dress or it could be the opposite where I'm in the purple and you in the green to match those gorgeous green eyes you got"
"Um, yeah, that doesn't sound like a bad idea, the prom is next week though we should, start to make some preparations as well"
"And I don't disagree, but as for now we need to make sure that this party is on lock and make sure that everything is going to be fine, I really want this to be a huge celebration, filled with craziness and good times, I mean, I can't imagine that this becomes a huge blunder, I mean like what if it is…" Esmeralda gives him a peck to calm him down a bit
"Hey, it's going to be alright, just chillax and take a breather, everything is going to be fine", she says as she holds his hands
"Woah, took myself out of there for a second, thank you so so much my love"
She smiled, "Anytime babe, anytime"
"Wonder what they're talking about?", says Quasimodo at the table with Phoebus that's distant from the table Esmeralda and Naveen are at
"Honestly, could be anything", said Phoebus
"Yeah, I agree"
The two of them pause for a second
"We should stop staring, feel like a bit of a weirdo", said Phoebus
"Honestly same", said Quasimodo
The two stopped looking at Esmeralda and Naveen and focused on their own table. Esmeralda got up and started walking towards the trash can to throw away her eaten lunch. As she did she noticed Phoebus and Quasimodo out of the corner of her eye, she gave them a short wave. They caught on to this and the both of them gave her a short wave back. She walks back to the table with her boyfriend
"Hey, I just saw you wave to Phoebus and…Quasimodo, right, did I say it right?"
"Um, yes, you did"
"Okay, great, anyway, they are showing up to the party right?"
"Yes, I spoke with them earlier today in the hallway?"
"Okay perfect, how about your other friends Flynn and…Aladdin?", said Naveen saying Aladdin's name flatly"
"Haven't asked them yet, but I think they might be down, even though Ali wants no association with you"
"Which I don't know why, but anyway, how about Megara and Pocahontas?"
"Haven't asked them yet, but will soon, and FYI, it's Meg, not Megara, she kinda gets annoyed when you say her name like that"
"Well okay, duly noted, but you need to ask them, I need more people at this party!", Naveen exclaimed
"Naveen, what did I say about freaking out about this party," said Esmeralda with a stern tone in her voice
"Your right babe, I need to just relax"
"Yes, please, I will get everything settled for you", she holds his hands again, "For us"
He looks into her glowing green eyes and gives a sly smile
"Yeah, for us"
"Good, lunch is almost over so…walk me over to my next class?"
"Um, was that even a question, my love", says Naveen as he and Esmeralda hold hands and begin to walk over to Esmeralda's next class. While the couple was walking towards the hallway, Phoebus and Quasimodo started to leave their table and go in the opposite direction of Esmeralda and Naveen. As the four were in the same positioning, different spots, Phoebus had looked at Esmeralda, checked her out, and made eye contact. Meanwhile, Esmeralda had done the same thing, looked at Phoebus, checked him out, and made eye contact. This happened so suddenly that the two of them didn't know what to make of the situation. Sure they both thought it was strange, but not awkward. They eventually shook off that odd interaction they just had with each other
Or did they?...
Pretty interesting interaction between Esmeralda and Phoebus, wonder what will come about that...find out in the following volumes.
