Meeting the Champion

After leaving the Grand Underground, the group enters Eterna City and look around at everything.

"What do you guys wanna do now?" asked Lincoln.

"We can look around town and see what it's like." suggested Dawn.

"That sounds like a good idea." said Sam.

"Yeah, I wanna relax a while after going through the forest." said Clyde.

The group goes for a walk throughout the city and take in the sights.

"Hurry up!" a young boy says as he runs by them.

"Hey, what's going on?" Lincoln asked.

"The Sinnoh League champion is here in Eterna City!" the boy responds as he runs towards a small cliff top that had what appeared to be ruins on it.

"The champion?" replied Clyde.

"Should we go see for ourselves?" asked Stella.

"Sure, it could be exciting." said Lincoln. The group make their way to the ruins where they see a crowd of people gathered looking at a tall, slender woman with long blonde hair that had black, tear-shaped, hair accessories in it; she was wearing a knee-length, black jacket with long sleeves with black fur trim around the cuffs and bottom of it, black top and trousers, and black, high-heeled shoes.

"Is that the champion?" asked Stella.

"Yeah, that's Cynthia!" said a young girl. As the crowd looks at the woman, now known as Cynthia, she turns around and sees the crowd looking at her.

"Oh, hello everyone." said Cynthia. Lincoln and Clyde both blush when they get a good look at her face.

"Bah... Bah... Bah..." Lincoln and Clyde stammered, making Stella and Dawn glare at Lincoln.

"You're so great, Cynthia!" said a young boy.

"Can I be as strong as you are?" asked a young girl.

"Of course." said Cynthia. "You just need to believe in your Pokemon and work hard."

"Wow!" said the younger kids.

"So, what brings you to these ruins?" asked another kid.

"I'm interested in the mythology and the history of the Sinnoh Region." said Cynthia with a smile.

"Like back when it was called the Hisui Region?" asked Lincoln, getting Cynthia's attention.

"Oh, I see you know a bit about Sinnoh's past." said Cynthia with a smile, making Lincoln and Clyde blush.

"A little." said Lincoln. He then pulls his Hisuian pokeball off his waist and holds it out to Cynthia, who was surprised by it.

"That's the first kind of pokeball ever invented." said Cynthia with interest, making some of the other kids gather around.

"Yeah, Professor Rowan gave it to me a while back." said Lincoln.

"Why did he do that?" asked Cynthia.

"He thought it was suitable considering..." said Lincoln.

"Considering what?" replied Cynthia.

"Hisuian pokeball..." Lincoln said before he tosses the pokeball, releasing the Pokemon inside. "... Hisuian Zorua." Cynthia's eyes widen with excitement when she saw the, thought to be, extinct variety of Zorua.

"It's so cute!" said a young girl, making Zorua do a head tilt, making other young kids smile with delight before they gather around her and start petting her.

"Where did you get it?" asked Cynthia as she puts her hands on Lincoln's shoulders, making him blush, Stella and Dawn frown, and Zorua chuckle mischievously when she sees Lincoln's expression.

"D-Do you know about those weird domes that have been appearing around the Sinnoh Region lately?" asked Lincoln.

"Yes, I do recall something about them being on the news." said Cynthia. Lincoln then explains to her about what they were and how his Zorua coming out of one of them.

"And I'm not the only one with a Hisuian Pokemon." said Lincoln.

"Yeah, dude." said Luna, pulling out a pokeball and tosses it, releasing her Hisuian Sneasel.

"Is that a Sneasel?" asked a teenage boy.

"Yeah; the Hisuian version anyway." replied Luna.

"This is so fascinating." said Cynthia. "What other Pokemon have you seen come out of those time distortions."

"Excuse me." a familiar voice from nearby said, making Lincoln and his friends look to see a familiar face.

"It's Paul." said Lincoln, getting Paul's attention.

"What are you doing here?" asked Paul.

"We heard that Cynthia was here and we wanted to meet her." said Lincoln.

"Well, I want to challenge her to a battle." said Paul, surprising everyone.

"That kid's challenging the champion?" asked a kid.

"Does he know who he's dealing with?" asked another kid. Cynthia walks over to Paul while Lincoln and his friends watch.

"Why do you wish to challenge me?" Cynthia asked Paul.

"I want to test myself against the strongest trainer in Sinnoh." said Paul.

"Are you sure you don't want to wait until you've gained more experience?" asked Cynthia.

"Don't tell me you're scared." Paul replied with a smirk.

"Very well." said Cynthia. "How many Pokemon do you want to use?"

"Six Pokemon each." said Paul.

A minute later, Paul and Cynthia were standing a good distance from each other while everyone else spreads out to give them plenty of room to battle with. Clyde decides to volunteer to be the referee for this battle.

"This is a six-on-six battle between the champion, the beautiful Cynthia; and the challenger, Paul." said Clyde. "The trainer who is able to defeat all of their opponent's Pokemon will be the winner. Let the match begin." Cynthia and Paul each pull a pokeball off their waists.

"Eevee, stand by for battle!" said Paul as he tosses his pokeball, releasing his Eevee that surprised everyone.

"That Eevee is huge!" said a boy.

"Why are its eyes glowing red?" asked another kid.

"Where did you find an Eevee that big?" asked Cynthia.

"Near Jubilife City." said Paul.

"Was it by any chance a few days ago?" asked Lincoln.

"What's it to you?" asked Paul.

"It must've come out of that time distortion that appeared in the city." said Lincoln.

"Judging by its red eyes and unusual size; that must be an Alpha Pokemon." said Cynthia.

"What's that?" asked Clyde.

"Alpha Pokemon are like their normal counterparts, but bigger, stronger, and know moves that normal varieties of themselves wouldn't be able to." said Cynthia.

"I knew I made the right choice to capture it." said Paul.

"This should be interesting." said Cynthia with a smile before she tosses her pokeball, releasing a large, dark blue, draconian Pokemon with a star-shaped mark on the tip of its nose, skinny arms with scythe-shaped, winglike fins at the end of them, and a claw at the end of each one, jet engine-shaped horns on the sides of its head, two spikes on its forearms and upper thighs, a shark fin on its back, and a tail that looks like a shark's.

"What is that?" asked Lincoln as he points his pokedex at the Pokemon.

"Garchomp, the Mach Pokemon, and the final evolved form of Gible. It flies at speeds equal to a jet fighter plane. It never allows its prey to escape." said Lincoln's pokedex.

"That Pokemon looks tough." said Luna. Paul's Alpha Eevee and Cynthia's Garchomp faced each other.

"Eevee, use Swift!" said Paul. Eevee releases stars from its body and they hit Garchomp, but didn't seem to do a lot of damage to it.

"Garchomp, Brick Break." said Cynthia. One of Garchomp's arm fins glows white and it strikes Paul's Alpha Eevee with it, dealing super effective damage, and knocking it out.

"Eevee is unable to battle. Garchomp is the winner." said Clyde.

"Wow! One hit!" said Stella.

"That Garchomp doesn't just look tough." said Sam. Paul returns his Alpha Eevee to its pokeball.

"What kind of Alpha are you?" Paul asked, bitterly.

"What a jerk." said Lincoln. Paul puts his Alpha Eevee's pokeball away and pulls out another one.

"Weavile; stand by for battle." said Paul, throwing a pokeball and releasing a bipedal, dark blue, catlike Pokemon with sharp claws on the end of its arms, red feathers on its head and around its neck, and a yellow gem on its forehead.

"What's that?" asked Sam, pointing her pokedex at the Pokemon.

"Weavile, the Sharp Claw Pokemon, and the evolved form of Sneasel. It sends signals to others of its kind by carving odd patterns on trees and ice." said Sam's pokedex.

"I wonder what a Hisuian Weavile will be like?" asked Luna.

"Weavile, use Icy Wind!" said Paul. Weavile releases a strong wind with sparkling snow from its mouth and it hits Garchomp, dealing super effective damage; but Garchomp remained standing.

"Garchomp, Dragon Claw." said Cynthia. Garchomp flies towards Weavile while its claws glowed turquoise and it slashes Weavile with them, knocking it out.

"Weavile is unable to battle. Garchomp is the winner." said Clyde.

"Whoa." said Lincoln.

"That Garchomp is powerful." said Stella. Paul returns Weavile to its pokeball; he puts it away and pulls out another.

"Murkrow, stand by for battle!" said Paul, throwing Murkrow's pokeball, and releasing it. "Murkrow, Night Shade!" Murkrow fires a beam of black energy from its eyes and it hits Garchomp.

"Garchomp, Dual Chop." said Cynthia. Garchomp flies up towards Murkrow while its claws glowed green and it strikes Murkrow with its left claw, sending it flying up into the air; Garchomp flies to it and strikes it with its right claw, sending it crashing to the ground, unconscious.

"Murkrow is unable to battle. Garchomp is the winner." said Clyde.

"That's three of Paul's Pokemon defeated by Cynthia!" said Sam.

"Yeah; it feels good seeing Paul get his butt handed to him." said Luna. Paul returns his Weavile to its pokeball and puts it on his waist, then pulls another one off his belt.

"Torterra, stand by for battle!" said Paul as he tosses his pokeball, releasing a large, turtlelike Pokemon with triangle-shaped protusions on its back, along with a large bonsai tree, plus a spike sticking out from each side of its head.

"What is that?" asked Lincoln as he points his pokedex at the Pokemon.

"Torterra, the Continent Pokemon, and the final evolved form of Turtwig. Groups of this Pokémon migrating in search of water have been mistaken for moving forests." said Lincoln's pokedex.

"So that's what my Grotle will evolve into soon." said Luna.

"Torterra, use Mega Drain!" said Paul. Torterra releases a beam of energy from its tree and it hits Garchomp, draining it of some of its stamina; but it still remained standing.

"Garchomp, use Dragon Rush!" said Cynthia. Garchomp flies at Paul's Torterra while covered in a mass of blue energy that resembles a winged dragon and hits it with such explosive force that it forces everyone to shield their eyes; when the dust cleared, Torterra was knocked out.

"Torterra is unable to battle. Garchomp is the winner." said Clyde.

"That is one strong Pokemon." said Lincoln. Paul returns his Torterra to his pokeball and puts it back on his waist, but doesn't pull another one off.

"I'm done." said Paul.

"It's over?" asked Sam.

"Guess he realizes how outmatched he is." said Dawn.

"He should've known better than to challenge the champion!" said a boy. Cynthia returns her Garchomp to its pokeball.

"You should get your Pokemon to a Pokemon Center right away." said Cynthia.

"Whatever." said Paul as he walks away.

Later at the Pokemon Center, the group was dropping off their Pokemon as well.

"That was an intense battle." said Lincoln.

"One-sided battle." said Sam.

"Paul didn't stand a chance." said Dawn. The group then notice Paul nearby, sitting in the waiting room.

"Hey, Paul." said Lincoln, getting Paul's attention.

"What are you doing here?" asked Paul with a frown.

"You're not the only one with Pokemon that need to be treated, dude." said Luna.

"Whatever." said Paul.

"Cynthia is a real powerful trainer." said Lincoln.

"That was obvious." said Paul with a scowl.

"What are you gonna do now?" asked Lincoln.

"I'll just focus on making my Pokemon stronger and getting gym badges." said Paul.

"Good luck with that." said Stella.

"Luck's for losers with no real talent." said Paul.

"If Lynn heard that, she'd probably not like it." said Lincoln.

"Whatever." said Paul.

"Do you know about the Grand Underground?" asked Sam.

"What's that?" asked Paul. They then tell him about all the stuff they found down there.

"Might be worth your while to check it out." said Luna.

"I'll think about it." said Paul.

"Where did Cynthia go?" asked Clyde.

"She left the city; probably Pokemon League stuff to deal with." said Stella.

"Or to explore more ruins." said Lincoln.

An hour later, the group and Paul get their Pokemon back; Lincoln's group let theirs out to check on them.

"You all feeling good?" asked Lincoln, making his Pokemon cheer in response.

"Stop being friendly with your Pokemon." said Paul.

"If we want to be nice to our Pokemon, then that's our decision." said Luna.

"I'm outta here." said Paul. "I'm gonna check out that Grand Underground place you mentioned." He then exits the Pokemon Center.

"Lincoln, you should get your Staravia back." said Stella.

"Good idea." said Lincoln. He goes to the PC and uses it to get his Staravia back. Zorua looks at Lincoln with a grin on her face.

"What's Zorua up to?" asked Dawn. Zorua does a backflip and turns into Cynthia.

"She turned into Cynthia." said Stella. Zorua grins at Lincoln and walks over to him; she puts her hands onto Lincoln's shoulders and kisses him on the forehead, making him blush, Luna and Sam chuckle, and Stella and Dawn frown.

"Can I have a kiss too?" asked Clyde. Zorua shrugs before she walks over to Clyde, leans forward and kisses him on the cheek, making him smile, goofily.

The group have met the Sinnoh Region Champion, Cynthia. Who else will they meet as their Sinnoh adventure continues?
