"It all took place on the day of the Magical Eclipse."

The moonlight turned red, and a beam of moonlight entered the cave behind a raging waterfall. It kept bouncing around until it hit a point in the wall, revealing an opening. Standing before that was a Chinese man who wore a bracelet over his right hand. The bracelet had the face of a lion engraved on it, and it glowed.

The man then knelt down. "Wu Shifu was desperate: the secret he guarded was in danger."

Outside a martial arts school owned by Wu Shifu, a number of students ran out of the building.

"Shame on us, master!" the students bowed. "Our Kung Fu is not up to your teaching!

Wu Shifu watched as they ran away and chased after. "You still have so much to learn!"

He followed them and saw they were standing in front of a man who was waving a fan and giving them money.

"What had become of the ancestral values? Courage, honesty, loyalty? A mysterious stranger was doing all he could to force the Master to sell his school."

Wu Shifu narrowed his eyes and walked back into the school.

"Someone clearly wanted to take over the land upon which it was built."

Wu Shifu returned to the sacred cave with six animal statues carved into the walls.

"The greed of the world was destroying everything. His school was his life, and his students were like his children. Without a family of his own, he would have no one to pass on his legacy and all the responsibilities that came with it. To whom would be entrust his heavy secret? What if no one was there to protect the Sacred Cave during the next Magical Eclipse? Now alone, he had lost all hope.'

After the eclipse, Wu Shifu returned to school and contemplated what to do next when he suddenly heard a baby's cries.

"And that was when he met…" He followed the cries and found a baby girl lying on his doorstep. He looked down at the baby girl, who stopped crying and giggled when she saw him. "He gave me my name. In Mandarin, it means 'to fly in the sky'."

Many years later, Wu Shifu decided to take the baby girl and raise her like his own daughter, and he began teaching her Kung Fu.

"My name is Fei. My adoptive father, Wu Shifu, would go on to teach me the values of Kung Fu," Wu Shifu then gave Fei his bracelet, "and made me the new Guardian. But they were still trying to chase us away."

A few more years later, Fei was now practising alone as her father had disappeared and was presumed dead.

"And when they took away my adoptive father, they destroyed the school."

The school was now in ruins, as if I had started and burned the place to the ground. Fei had nowhere else to go and was determined to protect the place. She had made a small shrine for her father and bowed towards a picture of him with a bowl of salt and twigs in front of her.

"In the end, they even got the bracelet."

One night, when Fei was fast asleep, someone had taken the bracelet from her. She didn't realise this until the next morning; she quickly rushed outside the demolished school, clenching her fist angrily.

"Now, I was the only one left to protect the secret of the cave during the next Magic Eclipse."

On the other side of the world, in Paris, Marinette and her friends were enjoying the holidays.

"So school was finally out, and it was gonna be amazing!" said Marinette. "We were gonna go swimming, hang out at the cinema, visit the museum, take long walks. We even organised a huge potluck picnic for all of us," Marinette watched as he got into his limo and waved at him dreamily as he drove off, "and this time, Adrien would join us. His father had given him permission!"

Alya rolled her eyes and closed Marinette's jaw as it hung out, much to her embarrassment.

Much later, she, along with Cat Noir and Lord Sprite, went through the usual patrol, but Hawk Moth hadn't akumatized anyone recently, so they spent most of their time just helping out the community.

"That's right, holidays are off to a great start, even for Cat Noir and me! We did have a few missions," At the Pont des Arts, a kid accidentally dropped his stuffed rabbit while eating ice cream over the bridge, "but no akumatized villain in sight.

Cat Noir quickly caught the rabbit with his staff, and Ladybug used her yo-yo and returned it to the boy.

"It seemed like Hawk Moth had taken holidays, too!"

Everyone cheered as they took a photo of the trio with the boy.

"We were starting to relax, because we still didn't know what holidays for Hawk Moth meant."

After that, the three of them had ice cream at Canal Saint-Martin before they made their way home.

"Basically, we thought everything was going well…" Ladybug made it all the way back home and de-transformed. "…until everything started to go wrong."

In the living room, Sabine was taking a package. "Sorry, Marinette, but I can't get away from the bakery today, and if the package doesn't get set off today, Uncle Wang won't get it in time for his birthday!"

Marinette groaned. "Alright, I'll go…"

Sabine smiled. "Thanks, sweetie."

Marinette made her way outside and began bumbling around with a phone, nearly dropping the package in the process.

"I'm experiencing a little setback," she told Alya.

"Why does that not surprise me in the slightest," she said.

"Save me a seat next to you-know-who, please; I'll be there as fast as I can."

"But don't you know?" Alya frowned. "I thought you knew!"

"What? What am I supposed to know?"

"Adrien's gone to Shanghai!"

Marinette gasped and dropped the package. "Huh?! There must be some kind of mistake! I always know what's up with Adrien!" She then pulled out her sketchbook and scrolling through it. "His five first names and every corresponding name date, his yearly schedule, even his shoe size! If there were anything to know about him, I would know it!"

"Well, he didn't know either," said Alya. "He told Nino that the opening of his father's shop in Shanghai had been moved up at the last minute. He's not alone, either. Jack just called to say that his father wanted him back in London today. Guess that's the unfortunate downside of being a rich kid."

Marinette's jaw dropped. She then lowered her head, looked at the package, and got an idea. "Shanghai?"

Lord Sprite was currently in Master Fu's massage shop.

"Things must be serious if you're calling from me for help," he said.

Master Fu nodded. "This is a serious matter, Sprite. An eclipse is about to happen, one that only happens every 15 years."

"What's so special about an eclipse?" Sprite asked.

"In Shanghai, there is a secret cave, which holds the Prodigious, a powerful artefact that predates the Miraculouses. Thousands of years ago, the founder of the Order of the Guardians created the Prodigious for a single champion to protect the known world. The Prodigious holds the powers of human values like honour, justice and patience given the user unfathomable power."

"I'm guessing something bad happened but resulted in it being locked away," Sprite assumed.

Master Fu nodded. "I'm afraid I do not know much of what transpired, but something terrible happened that nearly destroyed all of Asia. The First Mage was unable to destroy the Prodigious, so he locked it away so that he would not be used again. He created the Miraculouses to replace it. A special guardian was selected to guard it until a worthy person emerged."

"So if there's someone guarding, why do you need me?" Sprite asked.

"I have not heard from the current Guardian for a few years; I've been so busy trying to keep the Miraculouses I have not been able to look up. With the eclipse now upon us, I need someone to investigate and make sure that the Prodigious does not land in the wrong hands."

"Now I see why you asked me," said Sprite. "Unlike Ladybug and Cat Noir, I don't have to worry about explaining why I need to go to Shanghai."

Master Fu nodded. "It is imperative that the Prodigious does not fall into the wrong hands."

"I'll see to it, don't worry, Master," Sprite assured him.

On the Agreste private plane, Adrien's bodyguard, Placide I.T., was listening to his phone and relaxing.

"You are a dolphin, leaping from wave to wave in an ocean of tranquillity," it said.

"The opening of this store is essential for the future of the Agreste family, Adrien," said Gabriel to Adrian, knowing that he was upset about ditching his friends. Opening it much sooner than expected is very good news." He then placed a hand on Adrian's shoulder. There will be other fun times with your friends."

"You're right," Adrian nodded. "Besides, I'm glad I get to spend some time with you, father."

Gabriel nodded back. "I'm looking forward to it, too." He then rose to his feet. "But before that, I still have to sort out some organisational details."

He then went to his cabin on the plane and activated a hologram computer.

"Did you have time to check everything out, Nathalie?" Gabriel asked.

"All the conditions necessary for the Magical Eclipse will be met tomorrow as planned," said Nathalie.

Gabriel de-activated the computer and reached out for a briefcase. It scanned his thumb and pupil and opened, revealing a bracelet.

Nooroo then flew out. "Please, Master, think! It is for good reason that the Prodigious was abandoned in favour of the Miraculous! It was secured in that cave because it is too powerful, too dangerous!"

"Precisely, Nooroo," said Gabriel. Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous have been holding me in check for too long. I won't pass on an opportunity to destroy them with this higher power. What I started 15 years ago I will finish tomorrow. At last…"

Back at the Dupain-Cheng bakery, Sabine was attending to a customer when Marinette suddenly entered.

"Mom!" she yelled.

Sabine looked at her and saw that she was still holding the package. "The package! It'll never make it in time!"

"Yes, it will because I'm gonna hand it to Uncle Wang myself," said Marinette, and both her parents looked at her perplexed. "You see because it's high time I visit my uncle in person! Because my uncle—" She tripped over the package but quickly got back up, "It's my roots. And I've been trying to connect to Adri—I mean, my roots—for so long! And he keeps—I mean, they—keep eluding me." Both her parents continue to look at one another. "And without him—I mean them—without my roots—I mean, I feel incomplete!"

After she was finished, she covered her face with her hands but peeked between her fingers, looking at her parents.

"Marinette, are you saying that… you want to go to Shanghai?!" Sabine beamed.

Her father immediately ran up the stairs and returned with a cardboard box ten seconds later.

"Your mother and I have been waiting for this moment for so long!" he said.

"We always thought that one day you'd want to see your ancestors' country to connect with your Chinese family!" said her mother, holding her hands gently.

Tom then opened the box, revealing a lot of euro notes. "We've been putting money aside since the day you were born—enough for a family trip! We were just waiting for you to ask."

Sabine wiped a tear from her eye. "For you to be ready! Still, this is a bit sudden!"

"We can't close the bakery now," said Tom, and they looked at one another.

"If you want to give Uncle Wang his gift in person…

"…you'll have to go alone," said Tom, closing the box.

Marinette gasped, squealed and then hugged her parents. "You're the best parents in the whole world!"

Marinette soon boarded the plane and landed in Shanghai, where she met her Uncle Cheng. They began driving through the streets of Shanghai.

"What a joy to see you again; I'm so happy you've finally made the trip!" said Wang joyously.

"Yes, it's a good thing, and this way, you'll get your present on time," Marinette agreed.

"Your visit is my present, Marinette," Wang smiled. "Your mother told me that you wanted to connect with your roots, and that's the happiest you can make me. The restaurant had a lot of guests planned for this week, but I cancelled everything! I took a vacation for the first time since…" His expression then saddened. "…since your mother moved to France…"

"You didn't have to do that for me," said Marinette.

"Of course I did; family is sacred!"

Marinette smiled. "Your French has improved a lot since you last came to Paris."

"I have worked hard so it will be easier to communicate with you," he said. While he was talking, Marinette received a notification that showed a picture of Adrien. She then looked towards the skyscrapers. "And now I can tell you all about your ancestors and show you every family photo! Next time, I'll take you to visit the wonders of Shanghai and teach you all the Chengs' traditional songs!"

"The Chengs have traditional songs?" said Marinette surprised.

Adrian had also landed in Shanghai and was currently in the hotel room.

"The Bund district is so impressive, Father!" he said, admiring the view of the city from his balcony. "Have you ever spent time in Shanghai outside of work?"

"Of course I have," said Gable, checking a clipboard.

"Then there must be some places you could show me," Adrian suggested. "It would be great to see them together!"

"I… suppose," he said, looking back at him. "But before we do, I have some details to work out for tomorrow's opening night."

Adrien looked back at the city, disappointed. "I guess I'll just stay at the hotel and wait for you…"

Gabriel walked up to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. "On the contrary, take advantage of this beautiful day to walk around. I'll join you in the early afternoon."

Adrien smiled.

Marinette had finally reached her uncle's restaurant, the Thousand Delights, and they went inside.

"…so your great-great-great-grandfather designed dresses for the Beijing opera performers," said Wang as Marinette's phone received another notification about Adrian.

Then suddenly jumping right in front of her was a large blood which startled her.

"Marinette, Marinette, it's Marinette!" ir said and flew over to Wang.

"Yes, Bastille, I'm very proud to finally introduce my grandniece Marinette to you!" Wang smiled as the parrot landed on his shoulder.

Marinette nearly smiled after recovering from that surprise. "Nice to meet you, uh… Bastille!"

"Bastille has always been in the family, look," said Wang and began to show her some family photos. "He was already there with Grandpa Yan and Granny Mei Chei and with Xia Bing, your mother."

"Xia Bing?" Marinette frowned.

"Yes. She only took the name Sabine when she moved to France."

Marinette looked at the front of her mother's girl, hugging Bastille; he had to be about her age. "Wow… I've never seen that photo of Mom."

"Magic ingredient! Magic ingredient!" Bastille chirped.

"Yes, Bastille, I haven't forgotten," said Wang and turned to Marinette. "Do you remember my style of cooking?"

"Huh? Uh… Oh, right," she laughed, "you always improvise around something that fate brings you."

"And today, fate has brought you, Marinette," said Wang.

"But… I don't have any ingredients on me," said Marinette, who received another notification on her phone. She giggled awkwardly as she saw another picture of Adrien. "I know! I could go for a walk and see if fate brings me Adri- I mean, a magic ingredient!"

Wang looked concerned. "Aren't you afraid of getting lost? You don't even speak Mandarin!"

"I won't get lost," Marinette assured him. "I have my phone. It has a GPS and a translator."

"Very well, but don't go too far. You can find everything you need in the neighbourhood." Marinette and quickly ran off. "I'm sure our meal tonight will be very special indeed!"

Bastille squawked.

Sprite, meanwhile, had also landed in Shanghai, but he was wearing a spacesuit courtesy of the magical power and was now Nova Sprite. On his back, he had a sort of jet pack with butterfly wings, his trench coat had turned into a spacesuit, and he wore a tinted helmet.

"Light wings fall," he said, returning to his normal form.

He then pulled out his cane and contacted Master Fu. "Master Fu, I just landed in Shanghai."

"Very good," he said, yawning as it was night over there. "I suggest that you head to the school if you can't find him. I'm unsure you will locate some clues."

"I will, and I'll be sure to contact you later tonight or, in your case, in the morning," said Sprite.

Meanwhile, Marinette was walking down the street looking for Adrian.

"You want to put Adrien in a soup?" Tikki frowned, poking her head out of her purse.

"Of course not, Tikki," said Marinette. "We're gonna look for a magic ingredient and make the most of our little walk to go say hi to Adrien."

"You mean 'ni-hao'?"

Marinette looked at her, surprised. "You speak Mandarin?"

"Of course! Kwamis speak all languages."

"Um, yeah, that makes sense," Marinette nodded. "You never know who your next holder's gonna be."

"But how will you find Adrien?" Tikki asked.

"See? It's easy," she said, showing her her phone. "We're here," she pointed to her icon, "he's there," she pointed to Adrien's icon, "we just need to follow this map. This is gonna be super easy!"

Adrien was currently walking along the Bund district with his bodyguard. As they were walking down the street, they were met by a bunch of Adrien's hands.

"Hey, aren't you Adrien Agreste, the famous model?" one of them asked in French.

Another one of his friends then held out his phone and began speaking in Mandarin. "Can I take a photo with you?"

Placide I.T. stepped forward menacingly, but Adrien stopped him.

"Please, let them, I don't mind," said Adrian. He then looked back at the boys and began speaking to them in Mandarin. "It would be a great honour and a pleasure!"

The boy smiled as they enthusiastically gathered around him, taking selfies. As they were taking pictures, Placide I.T. noticed a stand with superhero action figures. He snuck away to grab some but noticed Adrian had spotted him holding the figures and quickly hit them behind his back.

Adrien merely smiled.

"Hey!" said one of the boys, pointing at the river.

Adrien made his way over and began taking more selfies together.

Meanwhile, Gabriel had arrived at Wu Shifu's ruined school. He got out of the car and made his way to the waterfall behind the school. He then pressed a secret button, revealing a secret passage behind the waterfall.

He then pulled out his phone and contacted Nathalie. "I'm here, Nathalie. Now all I need is to find the perfect person to akumatize."

He remained completely unaware that he was being watched by Sprite, who in turn contacted Lady P.

"Do you know what time it is?" Lady P yawned.

"I know, and I'm sorry, but we might have a problem," he said.

Marinette was still wandering through the streets, looking at her phone.

"Oh wow, it didn't look so far away on the map," she said.

At the same time, Fei was walking out of an alleyway in the Bund district and began looking around.

"I'd like to see people as people, think of them as stories: their smallest pleasures, their greatest joys, their disappointments, their successes. That's how my adoptive father would have wanted me to see them."

She then noticed that the truck was about to fall onto a mechanic. She quickly rushed over and placed her leg against it, keeping it up and allowing him to escape. As gratitude, he gave her her strawberries on a stick, which she handed to a little boy who dropped his own without him noticing.

"Don't cry; it's okay," said the boy's mother.

They gasped when they noticed the new stick.

She then rushed over to an elderly lady crossing the street, pulling her back and preventing her from getting hit by a car.

"Thank you," she said.

However, she disappeared when another car passed by.

"To be the Guardian he wanted me to be, I must forget who I really am."

As she walked down the street, Fei looked at her surroundings to see if there were any valuables worth stealing.

"I must get the key back at all costs! And for that, I need money." She then noticed Adrian and her eyes fell upon his ring. "There was someone who could tell me the truth about what happened to my adoptive father, but I have to pay him."

She then hid behind a billboard and disguised herself. With a disguise now on, she carefully approached Adrian, but his bodyguard noticed her and stepped forward. She quickly backed away, hid amongst the crowd, and put on a new disguise so he wouldn't recognise her.

Adrien waved goodbye to the boys as his phone rang and so it was his father calling.

"Father? You're done?" he asked excitedly but then became crestfallen. "Ah, yes, of course, I understand… Later? Yeah, sure! As you wish. See you later then."

He then hung up, disappointed.

"Your father won't ever change," Plagg sighed. "You can depend on the consistency in a soft cheese, but in a human being? What I wouldn't give for something to eat…"

Adrien suddenly got an idea. "I've got what you need, Plagg! Remember Wang Shifu, Marinette's uncle? His Thousand Delights restaurant is in this town!"

Plagg's face lit up.

Adrien turned to his bodyguard. "There's a place I'd like to go. Do you mind?"

Marinette had finally made it to the Bund district, and according to her phone, she was very close to Adrien. She looked around but was overwhelmed by how big everything was; there were so many people. Then she noticed eight on the other side of the road but accidentally bumped into a girl, who was actually Fei in disguise.

"Sorry," Marinette apologised.

Fei walked away, but before Marinette crossed the road, the lights turned red. She was so excited about meeting Adrian that she failed to notice that Fei had stolen her purse. Fei opened the purse, and Tikki quickly pretended to be a toy as Fei pulled her out and examined her.

"Adrien! Adrien!" Marinette yelled, waving at Adrian, who was getting to a taxi, catching Fei's attention.

Fei made her way back to Marinette and began pickpocketing her, stealing both her phone, kwagatama and earrings without her noticing. However, the three boys that had been with Adrian had noticed.

"Hey! You! Stop!" they yelled, running after her.

Fortunately for Fei, the lights turned green, and she quickly ran across the road, accidentally bumping into Marinette while in the process.

"Oh, sorry!" said Marinette and saw the boys chasing after misinterpreting the situation. "Oh no! That poor girl needs help!"

She started crossing the street but saw Adrian was already driving away in the taxi.

"Shoot!" she said.

She wanted a taste after Adrian, but her immediate attention was trying to rescue the girl from those boys. She chased after the boys chasing after Fei but ducked into an alleyway that she could transform.

"Tikki, spots on!" she yelled, but nothing happened. "Uh, Tikki?"

She looked down and gasped in horror when she realised her purse was missing. She looked around, terrified.

"Tikki!" she cried.

She began touching herself, realising that her phone and kwagatama were missing as well. A horrible thought then crept into her mind, and she slowly reached her ears and discovered that her Miraculous was gone.

"TIKKI!" she cried.

She then fell to the ground and started to cry.

Fei was still running through the streets but turned to face the boys. Then, using the kung fu moves she had learned from her father, she easily defeated them without touching them. They were knocked to the floor, and she dashed off as they picked themselves up to continue the chase, but Jiao noticed the kwagatama on the floor. He picked it up and soon followed his friends after Fei.
