A mother's biggest fear is to see their child hurt. Sarah clenched her chest as she witnessed her daughter experiencing her first heartbreak.

Jazmine's behavior had changed and she knew it was linked to her neighbor's eldest grandson, Huey Freeman. For the past 10 years, she has witnessed her daughter chase after him. Initially, she believed it was just an innocent crush, but as her daughter grew, so did her feelings towards him.

She spotted a hair brush that had been thrown on the floor and picked it up. She gulped as she approached her daughter who was sitting in front of her vanity. Quietly weeping, her head was buried beneath her slender arms.

'Sweetie' she placed her hand over her shoulders, which made her cry harder. Sarah sighed and grabbed the spray bottle that contained water and coconut oil. Unlike her own hair, Jazmine had a big and wild Afro, like a lion's mane.

She smiled because it was so beautiful to her.

She sprayed her hair with the spray and then brushed it smoothly. During the process of brushing her hair, she observed how it transformed into thick spiral curls. As she continued brushing and spraying, her curls became more defined. It was an amazing sight to see how the length stretched and the color darkened.

She used to leave-in conditioner to condition her ends. As she reached the root of her hair, she slowly raised her head, forcing her to look at her reflection in the mirror.

Jazmine's wide green eyes looked at the mirror with such disbelief.

Sarah kissed her cheek'You're so beautiful'. Jazmine's lips trembled for a moment, then

'I'm not,' she slammed her fist on the dresser. Her sudden outburst caused Sarah to gasp.

'I'm ugly,' she cried. " My hair is ugly,"

Sarah's heart was broken. It was beyond her belief that Jazmine couldn't see the beauty in herself. She often blamed herself for not allowing her to embrace her African-American side.

Her husband and she made an error by allowing her to change herself. They allowed her to get a relaxer when she desired straighter hair. When she wanted to use hair products to try to fix her hair, they allowed it. The truth is, she had no desire for Jazmine to change. Her decision to allow it was based on the hope that it would bring her happiness, but the most significant thing she regrets as a parent is not demonstrating to Jazmine that her blackness was truly beautiful.

"Sweetie, " she said calmly. "You may not believe this, but your hair is beautiful just the way it is.

Jazmine frowned, 'You're only saying that because you have to. You're my mom, of course you're going to say that. ' She stubbornly said.

"You're right. I'm your mommy and I'll always think greater of you," she lifted her chin. "But one thing I would never do is lie to you.

Jazmine shed a tear. "If I'm so beautiful, how come Huey had sex with her, and not me? " Sarah felt her heart drop. She wasn't expecting her to mention sex.

"Huey had sex with who dear?" Sarah said Jazmine gasped and covered her mouth with her hands.

"No one mom" Jazmine quickly said.

"Sweetie. It's okay you can tell me anything," Sarah said calmly.

Jazmine sighed deeply. "Huey had sex with Penny. " she revealed, referring to her neighbor's daughter, Penelope Anderson.

"Oh, I see" Sarah said as this was news to her.

"Are you disappointed that he didn't sleep with you? " Sarah carefully asked. Inside, she was freaking out because she didn't want her 16-year-old daughter to think about sex.

Jazmine made a face that looked like she was contemplating it. "Well... I don't think I'm quite ready for sex yet," She admitted.

Sarah breathed a sigh of relief.

"It just... Jazmine stuttered. "I didn't want him to have sex with anyone else," she revealed.

Sarah nodded her head in understanding. And "why is that, my dear? "

'Because I', she bit her lip. 'I love him,' she brawled in her hands. She felt ashamed.

'Aw, honey,' Sarah sat down beside her and stroked her hair.

"Did you ever express this to him?" Sarah asked.

She sobbed, 'No,'

"Why not?" Sarah asked patiently.

'I can't,' Jazmine said. "Our friendship would be ruined if he rejects me. I have already lost him as a best friend. I refuse to lose him as a friend, too, "she exclaimed. "Besides, he obviously has feelings for Penelope. "Jazmine rolled her eyes. "She's like the perfect girl. She has better hair, bigger boobs, shes pretty, and smarter. I mean I know I'm smart, but she's Huey's smart. "

Sarah reflected on what was told to her. She have noticed ever since Penelope came into the picture, Huey and Jazmine spent less time together.

She had the impression that it was due to the excitement of having a new neighbor, but she soon realized that her daughter was being replaced. She observed her daughter's desperate efforts to regain her best friend status.

She was saddened by it, but she couldn't do anything about it.

She pressed her lips together as she contemplated what to say. She wanted to make her feel better, but she didn't want to get her hopes up. "Honey.. boys, particularly those like Huey, can be a challenge to understand at times. I think you should wait and see what actions he takes. If he doesn't make any indications that he's interested in you, you may have to accept that maybe he just isn't into you. " Jazmine eyes lowered in disappointment .

Sarah lifted her chin. "Honey, love is not something you can force. You shouldn't have to. True love is always reciprocal. On the other hand, there's a possibility that he feels the same way, but just like you, he may be afraid of rejection. He may think he's not good enough for you. " Jazmine sighed deeply as she felt doubt.

"Whether he likes you or not, if his not making any moves then It's best to move on to the next.. Don't make the mistake of putting all your eggs in one basket. Explore your options until you know it's the right one. In the meantime, find a way to concentrate on other things that bring you joy.

Jazmine nodded her head slowly, her eyes brightened with curiosity. " How did you know that dad was the right one?

Sarah felt her cheeks warm up. "Oh, He was driven to make me his girl," She chuckled. "He never gave up. You see, around the same time we met. I was already interested in another guy. His name was Derrick, but I never had the courage to express my feelings to him because I thought he would reject me. He never seem to notice me, which made me afraid. At least not the way I wanted him to"

Jazmine sighed, 'I understand that. ' Her eyebrows perked up. "So what happened next?

"Well, your father went above and beyond to get my attention. He wrote me love letters, gave me gifts, and flowers. Even though he was corny, he always managed to keep a smile on my face. His efforts made me realize that he was the one. You see, when a guy tries his hardest to keep you in his court, then you know he's good for you,"

Jazmine looked down sadly. "I wish Huey would make an effort for me"

"Maybe one day he will, but if he doesn't, Hun, that will be his loss" Sarah said, rubbing her back.

"I guess you're right,' she sighed.

"Mommy is always right," she winked at her. "What'd you say? A girls' night? Pizza and the new season of Ginny and Georgia? "

Jazmine gasped with excitement. "Ooh! Can we get some snacks?"

"Sure, Sweetie. Go ahead and use the store app that delivers snacks to you. " She suggested as she struggled to explain the app on Jazmine's phone. "What do you kids call it these days Go-Blow?" She guessed

Jazmine put her hand over her mouth and giggled, 'Mom, I think you're referring to GoPuff"

Sarah face reddened in embarrassment. "Yeah, Hun, that's exactly what I meant," They both shared a moment of laughter.

"Alright now, I'm gonna go call the pizza man. You know the old-school way" Sarah said playfully.

Jazmine giggled "Okay, mommy,"

Sarah turned to leave.

" Mom?"

She turned around, 'Yes, dear?'

Jazmine fidgets with her fingers. "Could you please keep the conversation about Huey between You and I? "She asked with pleading eyes.

Sarah chuckled, 'Don't worry, I won't tell Dad.'

Relieved, Jazmine sighed. "Thank you, I love you, mommy,"

"I love you most"

Sarah widened her eyes. She had another dream about Jazmine. It was always a flashback of the past. She would always wake up with great disappointment because those dreams reminded her of the life she had was now gone.

She sat up and felt the ache in her back from the springs protruding from the mattress. Her lips shivered, holding her arms. It was cold. She looked around, most of the women were sleeping, but she often used this opportunity to wake her friends. She heard a loud yawn. It was Margaret, Cindy's mother.

"Psst! Margaret! " She whispered.

Margaret glanced at her and then turned away, ignoring her presence. Recently, she has been very distant and cold towards her. The least of Sarah's concerns were Margaret's attitude, which she brushed off with her shake of her head.

"Hey, " she turned to see Tia's mom, Ruth. They embraced one another tightly.

"Are you okay?" Sarah asked.

"Oh Sarah, I miss my girls,". Ruth whimpered, referring to Tia and her younger sister. Sarah dabbed at a tear from the corner of her eye. Her hands rested on Ruth's shoulders.

"I miss mine too, but we have to be strong. It's the only way to survive this. Ruth nodded her head in understanding. Jose's mother, Joseline approached them.

"No puedo creer que el bastardo esté fuera de este infierno ( I can't believe that bastard is apart of this)" Joseline said in disappointment.

"Joseline, I know you're upset about Jose's dad, but I have to be honest with you. He's one of the good ones here, " Sarah said, despite her limited Spanish knowledge of her work as an intern.

Joseline scoffed, 'If you knew him like I do, you would think differently. ' She folded her arms. She was hurt, but she refused to cry. Jose's father was working as one of the soldiers. It was clear to her that he was not good when he left her to raise their child alone, but this was just plain evil.

Sarah sighed, 'Joseline, I'm sorry'. The alarm suddenly went off, waking the remaining women. At once, everyone stood near their beds.

"Nancy!" A woman said, shaking her friend to wake her.

"Nancy! Wake up! " She gasped when she realized her friend was dead.

'My god,' tears welled up in the woman's eyes. Sarah felt for her. It was devastating, but she became accustomed to witnessing death. It was sickening.

Sarah observed the empty bed where Penelope's mother, Lauren used to reside. She was taken a week ago and never returned. The daily routine consisted of women being selected and returning either in dire condition, unable to walk or speak, or not at all.

As she heard the sounds of the soldiers approaching, she gulped deeply.

"All stand in positions! " The soldiers shouted, the women stood nervously, one eying another. There were two men standing guard at the entrance with heavy firearms.

The women whimpered as the soldiers examined them individually with flashlights. Sarah closed her eyes and said a brief prayer as she sensed them approaching her.

As she opened her eyes, the bright light flashing on her face almost blinded her. "TURN!" The soldier shouted, causing her to flinch. She complied with their commands and gestured nervously.

"Spread your arms, " they demanded. They began to examine her. Each time they touched her, her skin would crawl. "Stick out your tongue and say Ahh," the soldier said flirtatiously.

"Ahh"Sarah looked at the man with disgust. He had the biggest grin on his face. He leaned over and whispered to the soldier next to him, and they laughed.

Sarah felt insulted at this point, but she kept quiet. The soldier gazed at her. "Okay, return to your position," She turned around and stood straight.

The soldier glanced at her once more before leaving.

She sighed with relief.

She, Ruth, and Joseline exchanged looks before reverting their attention.

At the end of the examination, the soldiers would examine a chart, during which they would call out names.

Sarah zoomed out for a moment. Her daughter came to mind again. She wondered if she was safe. She had the feeling in her heart that she was, but there were times when she doubted it.

'DuBois! '

Sarah felt her heart drop as she heard her name called. Ruth gasp while Joseline began to cry.

"DuBois! " The soldier yelled, but Sarah was frozen in her spot. For some reason, she was unable to move.

"DuBois" The soldier yanked her by her arm, forcing her to walk. She could see the horrifying stares on the women's faces as she passed them. Sarah's eyes began to water as she reached the entrance. Margaret looked at her sympathetically, but soon her expression turned to a cold glare.

As she was pushed outside, she felt herself, panting. She lifted her hand to block the sun from shining in her face when her arms were grabbed and handcuffed in front of her.

As they blindfolded her, she whimpered. She felt hands gripping her shoulders, pulling her.

"Sarah!" A sudden voice shouted. Unable to see, She turns her head, Tears drown in her eyes as she knew that voice.

"Tom!" She shouted in agony. She hasn't spoken to him in days. She was overjoyed that he was still alive.

"Where are you taking my wife? " She heard him shouting. Soon, She began to hear a struggle like he was fighting.

"Tom! No! She wept. Don't upset them, please! She pleaded. I love you always,' she shouted before being thrown into the back of a van.

Jazmine looked around, her eyes broadened. She was up on the hilltop, the sun was shining, it was warm with a light breeze. She could hear birds chirping and trees roaring, blowing her hair against the wind. It felt so good to be home again, it felt so real

Was this all just a bad dream? . She thought hopefully.

From a distance, she could see a tall figure and a humorous Afro. He had his back turned and wore a long trench coat.

Jazmine lips widened as her heart raced rapidly.

"Huey!" she shouted.

She runs towards him excitedly.

"Huey!" She called again But the moment she approached him his body vanished into thin air.

Jazmine was panting as she felt herself falling into the grass of the motion of her attempt to catch him. She groaned with frustration.

This wasn't real at all. This was a dream!

"Jazmine?.. Is that actually you? "Her voice sounded familiar.

It was Penelope, standing over her with a surprise glance on her face.

"Penny?" Jazmine asked in confusion.

Penelope breathed relief "Wow.. I never thought I'd see the day I would be excited to see you, "she laughed and then she thought about it.

"Wait.. Do you hear me this time? " She said it was more a statement than a question.

"What do you mean?" Jazmine asked while standing.

"Holy shit! You can actually hear me! " Penelope exclaimed. She looked at Penelope in bewilderment. If this was a dream, so Penelope is...

"Penny.. Are you...de-de" She struggled to say it.

"Dead? Unfortunately, yes," said Penelope flippantly, while Jazmine was covering her mouth in shock.

"My god! I dream about you too! "Jazmine panicked.

Penelope looked up at the sky, "I know of all people," she said folding her arms." Apparently, you're the only one who can see me."

"I don't understand this" Jazmine said. " Why me?" She asked.

"I'm trying to understand this, too. All I know is that I feel trapped in another universe from which I cannot escape," says Penelope, sadly.

"Isn't there a heaven? An angel who guides you to the light? " Jazmine asked.

Penelope scoffed. "Don't be gullible, Jazmine. There is no angel that takes you to heaven. There's no light. No after life. No God. Everything is as you see the world today, but it's like time has stopped. The atmosphere is much quieter and more solitary," Penelope stated gravely..

Jazmine shook his head with incredulity. " No. There must be some reason you didn't join the other side. Maybe there's some sort of unfinished business, you need to do " she suggested.

Penelope had it in mind. "If this were a possibility, it would mean that my "unfinished buisness" pertains to you. That is the only explanation I have to why you're the only one who can see me, "

Jazmine stood silently trying to make sense of it.

Penelope shook her head in disbelief. "But it just doesn't make sense. " she frowned in disgust. "Why would I have unfinished business with you! Why not with Huey? He's the one I love! " She shouted, losing her temper.

All of a sudden, the clouds began to darken, and the wind strengthened.

"Penny" Jazmine said as she breathes shakily. Her hair was blowing in her face.

"It's not fair that I had to die so you can be with him! You don't even deserve him! "Penelope screamed.

Jazmine gasped as she could feel Penelope's energy. It was so intense, it started to create a storm.

"I was supposed to be the person he needed, not you! "Penelope glared at her." " I can't be dead! There's no way I'm dead!

Thunder stirred the grass as Jazmine's body struck the oak tree.

"Penelope!" she screamed out of fear.

Penelope stepped on her foot, causing a vibration on the soil. " I can't even stand you, yet I'm stuck in your stupid dreams!"

Jazmine closed her eyes, praying for her departure.

"I hate you!" said Penelope, crying, but instead of tears, the rain was falling. Feeling Devastated, Penelope dropped to her knees in the wet grass.

"Why me," she despairingly says.

She raised her eyes to Jazmine, who was starting to disappear.

She arose immediately and ran toward her.

"Jazmine, wait!"

Jazmine opened his eyes to see that the figure of Penelope was becoming blurry. It was like a shadow again.

"Jazmine, please don't leave!" She heard her shouting desperately.

"Don't go!"

"Don't go!"

Jazmine gasped as her body shook. She squeezed the bedsheets, breathing heavily with adrenaline, seeking her surroundings. The sweat flowed on her forehead when she suspected Penelope was present. She sighed with relief when she realised that she was in the bedroom with Charlie, who was in a deep sleep.

Her heart was beating with fright as she slowly got out of bed. She approached the inhaler from the dresser beside her.

She inhaled deeply as her nerves were calm.

What a nightmare.

She was scared that Penelope, who was dead, was so angry with her. She had no way of knowing how she could see her. Was the dream real? Is Penelope really communicating with her from the other side? She has always believed in spirits and angels, yet she has never seen them.

Her parents were not strictly religious, but she grew up with a firm belief in God and his faith. She thought that when you died, your soul would be transferred into the afterlife, which she always thought was heaven.

Penelope gave the impression that there wasn't a heaven. That you're stuck in a solitary universe. She became even more afraid of death.

She still had no idea why she kept seeing Penelope. She thought about her conversation with her. Was there anything she and Penelope had to sort out? However; it didn't make sense because Penelope and hers were never really that close. In fact, they barely spoke to each other unless they were obliged to,

Maybe the whole thing was inside her head.

Am I going crazy? She thought.

Jazmine looked at the clock at three in the morning and everyone was probably sleeping. She would go back to sleep, but she needed something to drink besides water!

She went downstairs carefully not to make too much noise and on her way down, she spotted a tall figure which appears to be no one other than Huey. He stood in the same position he had in her dream, with his back turned. He appeared to be standing outside the patio. The wind was blowing over his Afro and he was holding an Ak-47 by hand.

She remembered that the boys often took turns looking after the house, while everyone rested. It must be Huey's turn tonight.

Jazmine felt her heart beating against her chest. It's been a few days since she's spoken to him. After their altercation, they didn't speak much to each other. The following day, the crew, including the hostage Cairo, set out to travel. They travelled by day and slept by night. When they were outside, there was always an uncomfortable silence among them. The only time he would speak to her was after a kill he would ask her if she was okay and she would simply respond with head nods.

In spite of the discomfort between them, It was nice to see him again. She never confessed out loud, but she felt secure because of Huey's presence. He knew all the time what to do and how to do it. He was really good at guns and combat. His skills weren't the only thing that gave her comfort. It was about how she felt closer to home when she was with him. Seeing him alive and in good health gave her hope that the rest of her friends and family were well.

At least she likes to think so.

She took a deep breath before walking forward, she never even had a chance to announce herself when Huey turned around with his gun pointed at her.

"Stop right there or I'll shoot," he said with a hard look. He didn't have a clear view because it was so dark. In response, her hands rose.

"It's me," she said, courageously stepping into the light of the patio so he can see her.

Huey immediately lowered his gun. "Jazmine?"

His eyes began to soften, then he looked at her with seriousness.

"You shouldn't be here at night, it's not safe, "he reprimanded her.

"I know, but I was thirsty. " Jazmin confessed.

"Charlie has plenty of water bottles up there," Huey said.

Jazmine rolled her eyes at his sarcasm. "That's true, but I wanted something different," she says.

"You could have requested for me to bring it up to you. You know, with the walkie-talkie I gave you," he says.

"Maybe I wanted to get it myself " Jazmine stubbornly said while crossing her arms. "Besides, it's's not like we are talking these days anyway"

Huey felt a bleed in his heart. "You really need to rest," he said, looking the other way.

Jazmine hated when he did that.

"I couldn't sleep, anyways, I think it's time we talked about the elephant in the room that stands between us," Jazmine said.

"What," he said, but he understood exactly what she meant.

"We need to talk about the altercation we had a few days ago" Jazmine said directly.

He remained quiet for a moment... . "Jazz, I don't want to talk about that right now," Huey said wearily.

"So... is that the way it's going to be? We're just not gonna talk anymore ? "Jazmine said, feeling a pinch in her chest.

"We're talking' now, aren't we? "Huey said rhetorically.

"Yes, we are, but it's not the same" Jazmine voice cracked as she felt herself about to cry. She said to herself that she would stay strong, but it made her sad to feel that she was losing him as a friend. Huey closed his eyes, it bothered him that this was upsetting her.

It was upsetting him too.

"Huey..." She said, touching his arm. He felt something when she touched him. 'I don't want there to be any animosity between us... "

"There isn't any animosity between us. We're still friends, at least I like to think we are," he says, uncertainly.

"Are we still friends, Jazmine?" he asked her all of a sudden.

Jazmine smiles sorrowfully. "Of course we are."

"OK," said Huey with a nod.

Jazmine considered what to say for a moment before speaking one more time.

"I'm sorry for about your nose, " she mentioned, referring to the bruise on his nose from the impact of her slap.

Huey smirked a bit. "Do you know you hit harder than Cairo?"

Jazmine gasped dramatically. "Don't say that! You know I feel terrible about that,"

Huey shook his head " It's fine, Jazmine... really.. I've been through a lot worse," he says honestly.

"I'm so sorry Huey," Jazmine repeated herself as tears welled up.

"Stop apologizing..." he said sternly. Then he changed his tone. "It's me that's sorry. "

Sorry I lost you.

"I should not have spoken to you the way I did," I admitted. "I'm sorry for calling you names.. Now that we both apologized, could we please call this a truce? " He asked.

Jazmine giggled "Yes, truce" she said, feeling a whole lot better.

There was a silence between them. She stood by his side clumsily while the wind was blowing. She felt a shiver in her arms. She began to rub it. Remotely, Huey removed his jacket and gave it to her. She grinned because it was like old times.

"Thank you," she said as he nodded.

She looked at him from the corner of her eye. He was looking forward, he had his usual scowling face, but she could tell by his eyes that something was bothering him.

Huey felt Jazmine staring at him, but he wouldn't dare look at her. He wasn't mad at her anymore, but her actions still hurt him.

After the fight they had, he had reflected on what had happened. He realized that Jazmine had every right to move on from him. He didn't treat her the best back at home. In fact, all he ever did was push her away. He was rude to her and more importantly, he slept with another girl knowing his feelings weren't there.

He always had a crush on Jazmine, and very quickly it became love. When he came to terms with his true feelings for her, all he wanted to do was hide it. He could hear his grandad now..

"You want to know what makes a man weak?" Grandad asked.

"Sure, why not?" Huey stated sarcastically.

" When he hides and runs from the things that matter. If you keep this up, she's going to find someone better and then you'll lose her for good. Don't be a coward Huey"

Grandad was right. He should have told Jazmine all along what he was feeling, now it was too late. He lose her to someone else.

Is he better, though?

His blood boiled when he thought Damien's potential of being the right choice. He's your stereotypical white male with a big ego. He pretends to be the perfect guy. Someone most girls fantasize about meeting. "Prince Charming" which sprinkles the girl with love, attention and affection. He also acts as the blazing knight of Armour, who is always there to save the day.

The impotent romantic type who always understands, regardless of the complexity of the situation. He's got that image of Disney Prince, who, of course, would attract someone like Jazmine.

However, Huey sees through it all. Damien the type who is probably pretty cool with a number of different "stereotypical " groups. He enjoys partying, drinking, flirting with girls, hooking up, and having sexual intercourse.

He was most probably the "jock" in high school who made no contribution to society. He probably worked in a fast-food restaurant and lived in someone's basement, in particular Charlie and Adam.

In spite of that, his perception of Damien. He was intimidated when it came to Jazmine. After discovering that they had slept together, he paid greater attention to the way they interacted.

Jazmine appeared to be avoiding showing Damien romantic affection. Apparently, she talked to him privately. He was unaware of what had been communicated between them, but ever since then. Damien's demeanor has been a bit aloof. He made it look like he was supportive. As if Jazmine's distance didn't affect him, but Huey knew it was an act. He could see it in his eyes when Jazmine walked in the room; his eyes would glow with sadness. He would stare at her for long periods of time. It was almost as if he was in love with her.

He also fell in competition with Damien regarding the protection of Jazmine. For example, each time they travelled, Huey made it a priority to keep Jazmine safe, but Damien always tried to act before him.

He even held her inhalers for her and would stay invariably by her side like a guard dog. What bothered him the most was that he could tell Jazmine really likes Damien. The way she blushes when he did something nice for her. How comfortable she acts when she's around him. How trusting she was with him. Most of all, the way she looked at him.

Damien was definitely a threat.

"Huey," Jazmine's voice broke his thoughts.

"Yes?" He said softly.

She hesitated initially,

"What happened to Penelope?" she inquired with caution.

He felt his shoulders tense up as he closed his eyes.

"I understand if you don't want to talk about it," she said quickly, regretting her question. She could tell it was a touchy subject.

Huey didn't want to talk about Penelope's death because he still was struggling to come to the terms of it. He had many regrets about what had happened. He was furious because he knew that this could have been prevented. If only Penelope would have listened.

"We were on our way to the safe house when we encountered Cairo and his purge crew. They were holding Tia as a hostage" Huey revealed.

Jazmine's eyes widened while she feared what he was about to reveal.

"As I understand it, Caesar and Tia were ambushed by the purge. Apparently, Cairo was after me, and when Caeser refused to expose me, he was willing to kill by any means necessary. In exchange to spare Caesar's life, Tia volunteered to join The Purge. Fast-forward, We crossed paths with their crew. I agreed to take part in The Purge. Under one condition, that Tia is freed and they wouldn't hurt my brother and our friends," he explained.

Jazmine sighed with relievement. Their friends were safe.

Huey continued,

"Afterwards, I told them to retreat to the safe house, but Penelope refused to follow my orders. In short, she joined the purge and there we were put through tests to prove our loyalty to the group," said Huey.

"What kind of test?" Jazmine asked.

Huey looked at her, "You're not going to like this," he warned.

"We had to kill innocent people" He disclosed. He explained in more detail how he and Penelope experienced their first murder, the couple.

He explained how Penelope began to change, how she quickly got obsessed with the power of killing.

"It was as if she was someone else. Someone I didn't recognize at all. " He said as his chest tightened. He understood that if she wanted to survive the purge group, she had to kill. However, it was the fact that when the choice was given to her, she chose to take lives while he did the opposite.

He can never forget the look in her eyes.

Jazmine couldn't believe what she was hearing. She always thought Penelope was a little odd, but she never imagined she'd become a full-blown psychopath.. Hearing Penelope's dark side made her afraid, especially since she seems to haunt her from the dead!

"How long before she died? " Jazmine asked.

"During our last test. " He confirmed. "As I expected Cairo was only deluding us. In the end, He told us we had to fight for the spot. I tried to stop her. I tried to make her understand, but Cairo had already gotten into her head," said Huey with anger.

He described how Penelope started attacking him whilst Cairo continued to manipulate the situation. He mentioned that Penelope had asked him if he loved her more than Jazmine. When she didn't like his answer, she got angry, which prompted her to want to kill him.

Jazmine wondered what his response was, but she didn't want to make the subject about her.

Huey proceeded to explain his fight against Penelope. He expressed how he pleaded with her and that he had a plan to save them both. He just needed her to trust him.

"It was the exact moment, I felt that she was coming to her senses when she was attacked by one of the members of the purge"Huey revealed.

"He plunged a sword right through her" He said as Jazmine covered her mouth in shock.

"I'll never forget the look on her face. The look of suffering, fear, regret and grief. I wanted to help her, but there was too much blood and before I knew it... she was.. "Huey dropped his head.

Jazmine looked at Huey. His were hands trembling beside him, he seemed to be breathing heavily with his eyes closed.

Huey felt like he was breaking, but he fought his hardest not to break down. Inside, he shouted and wept, but he refused to release his agony.

He missed his previous life with his younger brother and friends. His grandad who was likely dead by now. How he felt about the innocent people he was forced to kill. Penelope's death, his failure to save both of them. More than anything, losing Jazmine's heart to someone else. All that was built inside and it was forcing him to explode.

He felt his lips shudder.

All of a sudden, he was surrounded by a pair of slim arms. Jazmine wrapped him in her arms and held him tightly. She didn't say a word, all she did was gently rubbing his back. It reminded him of what his mother did when he was a child..

That familiar of his mother made him feel weak and usually he would get uncomfortable and push Jazmine away. But for some reason, he felt himself holding her back. The urge inside of him couldn't fight any longer. He cursed under his breath as he felt himself breaking down. Warm tears flowed down his face, and he squeezed his eyelids in the hope his tears would stop.

Jazmine could feel Huey's tears on her skin, his body trembling to indicate he was crying. She felt his arms strong, holding her waist firmly, his head stuck in her shoulder.

She was rather shorter than him so he was leaning over against her. Jazmine began to lose the balance of her weight as she felt his arms hold her tighter, pulling her towards him. He was holding her gently while calming himself.

Jazmine felt tears in her own eyes. She couldn't help but to empathize with Huey. She loved him and seeing him in so much pain, made her feel in pain also. They hugged quietly as they shared a moment of comfort.

From afar, Damien is watching them. His heart sank with jealousy. He felt sore on his stomach, shivering in his spine. His eyes felt hot as he glowered at Jazmine and Huey embracing each other closely.

A feeling of hurt and insecurity precipitates in his system as he remembers his recent conversation with Jazmine.

It was the morning after Huey arrived, and Damien was eager to see Jazmine. He never had a chance to check on her after leaving her with Huey. When he searched for her, he was told she was sleeping with Charlie.

He felt disappointed because in recent days, he and Jazmine had slept in the same bed, so it was weird sleeping without her.

He missed her.

He knocked on the door of Charlie's room when Jazmine opened the door. Her eyes widened like she wasn't expecting him.

"Good morning, beautiful," he said in a casual manner.

She blinked in disarray. "Damien?" said awkwardly.

No good morning back?

"I was wondering if we could have a word?" he asked, getting to the point. He wasn't trying to waste any time.

She bit her lip and tapped her finger on the door.

"Uh.. sure.. Come in, " she said, inviting him inside.

Damien walked in, closing the door behind him.

Jazmine sat on the bed with her hands between her thighs.

She looked so nervous.

Damien sat down and stared at her. She looked so beautiful at first light. He just wanted to kiss and hold her.

Jazmine turned to him and gave him a welcoming smile which did nothing but warm his heart. But her eyes seemed very concerned about something.

"How are you Damien? " She asked which surprised him.

He smiled at her. "I'm great now that I've seen you," she kind of blushes.

"How are you?" he inquired.

"I'm okay... but I'm also a bit nervous about us going out," she admitted.

"I know it's scary, but I'm going to be right beside you," he said, taking her hand. " I missed you, " he said, kissing her little knuckles.

Jazmine looked the other way, "Damien...", he couldn't say what she was thinking, but the way her voice sounded, he could tell it bothered her.

"I know, babe, I'm sorry. It just. I really missed you last night," he said honestly.

"What exactly went on last night?" he asked.

Her eyebrows raised "what you mean?"

"You know... between you and Huey? ?" He asked. "Did you guys have a fight? Or something? He didn't hurt you did he?" He balled his fist.

"He didn't hurt me,' Jazmine said defensively.

Damien looked at her in disbelief.

"Are you sure about that? I saw that bruise on his face that wasn't there before I left, so something definitely happened between you two," Damien said, calling her out.

Jazmine sighed profoundly. "We had a bit of a disagreement and he said something disrespectful that I didn't appreciate, so I slapped him," she said.

"Wow," said Damien, taken aback. "What did he say?" he inquired.

"I really don't want to go into specifics, but it was about us," she said.

"Okay. What'd you say about us that made him react like that? "He asked gently."

"I told him we hooked up," she said, looking down. "He wasn't too happy about it," she said, showing guilt.

Damien wanted to smile. He wasn't really a "kiss and tell" type, but the fact that Jazmine admitted they were intimate gave him hope that she had confirmed their relationship.

"What did he say about it?" He asked. He could really care less what that asshole thought.

"He thinks it was a bad decision on my part," she said not wanting to get into details.

"It really isn't his business. What we choose to do in private is strictly between us" Damien said with an attitude.

Jazmine looked bothered by his tone.

"But overall, how do you feel about it. "He said in a softer voice. "Do you have any regrets?" He asked, fearing her answer.

"Yeah and no" she answered.

"Okay, can you please elaborate?" He asked calmly.

"I..don't regret sleeping with you because it was something I choose to do, and it felt good" She admitted. "but I don't know if it was the right decision " Jazmine said carefully.

Damien felt his heart sank to the floor .

"Why do you feel it wasn't the right decision?" He asked concernedly.

Jazmine blinked as a single teardrop from her eyes.

" Because I.. I kissed Huey"

"What" he stood up. "You guys kissed?" He said still in disbelief.

Jazmine nodded shamefully.

His jaw tightened slightly. "Was this after I left?" He asked, glaring at her.

"No! no!" She said. "It was when he first arrived. I didn't know it was him at first, but then I realized it was him my emotions took over and next thing I knew, we were kissing. We almost took it further but then I stopped him"she said truthfully.

"Wow..." Damien said out of words. Not only did they kiss but they almost fucked. He was in complete shock.

"But I thought you said he didn't like you?" He asked stills fuming.

"I thought he didn't, but then he revealed that he always had feelings for me. He didn't tell me the truth because he was too afraid" She mentioned.

Damien shook his head. "What is there to he afraid about? You either want someone or you don't. You most definitely don't treat the one you love like horseshit" he said getting frustrated.

Jazmine rubbed her arms nervously as she stood.

"Do you believe him?" He asked.

"I don't think he would lie about this" Jazmine said with zero confidence.

He scoffed. "What about that girl he was sleeping with? What ever happened to her?" He said, referring to Penelope.

"Um..She died" Jazmine said breaking the news.

That explains everything, he thought.

"Unbelievable..So now that his girl is dead, he wants you to be his rebound ?" He scoffed.

"I don't think it's like that"Jazmine said, feeling offended.

"Really? So You actually believe him?" Damien said in disbelief.

"I honestly don't know what to believe anymore " Jazmine admitted becoming upset. She began to cry.

Damien eyes softened as he caressed her shoulders.

"I'm sorry..I didn't mean to upset you" He said, wiling her tears away. He sighed deeply. "It just... what does this mean for us?"he said as his heart beat rapidly.

She was in his arms yet he felt her slipping away from him.

"Do you still want to be with me?" He asked.

As he recalled, the night they made love, Jazmine and him made it official. In his mind they were in a relationship, but now that he knows Huey's intentions he feared that Jazmine was having second thoughts.

"Damien..I can't right now. I'm sorry " she sobbed covering her face.

Damien felt his eyes tearing up, but he held them in. His heart was broken. He waited for Jazmine to get herself together then he asked.

"So does this mean you want to be with him?" He looking into her teary eyes with tears in his.

"That's the thing. I don't know what I want right now, but I feel like I should to be alone for a while to figure things out"Jazmine said weakly.

It felt like he was stuck by a truck.

"I understand," he said calmly but inside he was shattered.

"I'm so sorry Damien " Jazmine said, crying again.

"Me too, " he mumbled. He stood there in silence then he said. " It's fine. I respect your decision, but it doesn't change how I feel about you and I hope in the end, you'll choose me" He finally said.

Jazmine was too upset to respond. He rushed towards her and hugged her. He pulled away. "I have to go help Adam with something, I'll talk to you later okay?"

She nodded her head, "okay"

He lifted her chin "Hey...no hard feelings okay?" he said, winking at her playfully.

She smiled sadly. "Thank you for being so understanding "

"No problem " He smiled back.

He took one last look at her becoming turning away and as soon as he did, his tears came pouring down.

He never thought he cry over a girl but he did.

Damien shook his head in disgust. Huey was toxic. He didn't deserve Jazmine's love. Why couldn't she see that he was using her? Despite Jazmine's pleas for his love, he treated her horribly. He's only interested in her now because his initial choice is dead. He's now trying to use Jazmine as a second choice. There was no way in hell he was going to let that happen.

Out of rage, he made his way towards them, but suddenly

BANG!

"Tom"

Sarah groaned deeply as she slowly opened her eyes to see that she was in a room.

"Where am I?" She asked herself, sliding out of bed. She examined the room carefully. It was an enormous bedroom with opulent furnishings and decor. The bed itself was as huge as a California king bed, with four poster frames featuring plush luxurious linen. The murals and carvings were placed on the wall, and the colors were both rich and regal in appearance. There was a terrace in the room that provided a view of the night stars, which indicated that it was nighttime.

Could this be a dream? She wondered. She had never been to a place like this, it was like something she has never seen before.

She turned to the bed and spotted an elegant sequin champagne long gown. She walked closer and noticed a note sitting on top of the dress with her name on it.

She opened the letter which read;

Congratulations Sarah! You have made it to the mansion. You have been selected to be a part of our masquerade ball. Join us! As we enter the rebirth. Get yourself cleaned up, put on some makeup' Wear this gown and mask. Your fate awaits you...

PS, if you do not attend, there will be consequences, the choice is yours...

Rebirth?

Sarah had a bad feeling about this ball, but somehow she felt she needed to attend. Maybe she can finally get the answers she was seeking for.

Feeling optimistic, she went into the bathroom to get cleaned up. The moment she walked in, she was met with a large mirror, forcing her to stare at her own reflection. It was the first time in a long time she saw herself. She couldn't believe her eyes as she almost didn't recognize herself. As She touched her face to examine herself, she couldn't help but notice the glow she once had was gone. Her face was full of bruises and she had big dark circles under her eyes. Her teeth were dirty due to lack of water and hygiene. As she removed her clothes, she noticed that she lost weight that she can see her hip bones. Refusing to look at herself any longer, She immediately hopped into the shower.

As she stood under the stream, hot water, She couldn't help to feel a sense of guilt. She sobbed uncontrollably as she thought of the living situations her roommates at the camp had to endure, including her husband who looked as if he hadn't groomed in months.

She didn't deserve this luxury.

After her shower, she got dressed and did her hair and makeup to her liking. She figured if she was going to participate in this charade, she better look the part.

When she was done getting dressed, she glanced at her appearance once again. She looked good. Better than she has in weeks, thanks to the makeup which hides all her stress lines and dark circles.

"You got this Sarah" she took a deep breath before opening the door to exit the room.

She entered a hall that appeared to be a royal residence. She interpreted the signs with arrows as pointing towards the ballroom's direction.

Each step she took caused her heart to beat faster, making her feel as though she was walking through the depths of hell. There was a sinister element to this place that shook her core.

During her descent downstairs, she heard classical piano music, wine glasses clicking, and the sounds of people chatting and laughing.

She was in awe as she finally reached the bottom of the stairs. It was a party. It's wasn't just any party, it's an elegant one. The room was filled with guests, more than she could count.

"Welcome, Sarah," A white man dressed in a black and white suit greeted her. His appearance resembled that of a butler.

'Where am I? ' She asked him, but he ignored her and headed her a sparkling glass of champagne.

"Oh.. No thank you Sir, I don't drink-"She paused as she noticed his menacing facial expression. Without a second thought, she accepted the glass in her hand.

"Thank you," she said with a fake smile.

There was no response from the man. He simply walked away.

Sarah exhaled with relief. She couldn't cause any more trouble for herself.

As she held her glass of champagne, she wandered around the room curiously. Everyone was dressed to the nines, with masquerade masks covering their identities. The most surprising thing to her was that everyone seemed to be having a good time, despite the fact that World War Three was happening.

It made her feel disgusted. How was it possible for them to express such happiness during this time? Did they have any children? Were their children taken away from them? Tears welled up in her eyes as she suddenly thought of her child.

She removed her mask as she felt overwhelmed with grief. She took a napkin from a table and dropped her eyes. During the process of putting on her mask, she heard a familiar voice.

"Sarah?"

BANG!

Jazmine screamed, Huey pulled her on the ground with him protectively as a gunshot was heard. Huey grabbed his Ak-47 and stood up.

"Huey don't !" Jazmine pulled his shirt to keep him down,

"It's okay, I'm just gonna take a look" He said calmly as she nodded her head.

"Please be careful " she said in worried tone.

He nodded at her then stood up and looked into the slope of the gun as he aimed .

His brows raised as he saw what looked like a racist cult. They were wearing white mask dressed in suits with a confederate flag printed on.

"Not these white devils " Huey mumbled.

"Huey! What do you see?" Jazmine asked in a panic.

Before he could respond Damien voice was heard.

"What's going on?" Damien said as he came out. He saw Jazmine on the ground and instantly became concerned.

"Jazmine!" He exclaimed as he rushed to her side. He helped her stand on her feet.

"Are you okay, are you hurt?" He said as he began inspecting her for wounds.

"No, I'm alright. just shaken up" she said, rubbing her arms as they shivered.

He pulled her into a hug "Don't worry, I'll protect you" he said as he held her in his arms. They hugged for a moment until Huey cleared his throat.

"We have company, more than I can count. They armed, so we need to evacuate now!" Huey said, looking at them seriously, trying his hardest to conceal his jealousy

They immediately pulled away. "He's right, Jazmine, you should go wake the others and meet us down here," he said, referring to Adam and Charlie who were upstairs sleeping.

She looked at Huey in concerned. "Huey.."

"It's okay Jazmine. just go wake the others and meet us downstairs " He said, assuring her.

"Okay" she said before rushing upstairs.

"I literally just said that" Damien mumbled as he was annoyed by Huey for telling Jazmine what he had just told her

As Jazmine was rushing upstairs, Adam came running down.

"We need to get out of here. It looks like some cult heading our way" Adam said.

"No shit, Sherlock " Damien said as he was still irritated.

"What the hell is his problem? " Adam said as Huey approached him.

"Who cares. We need to get the prisoner and get the fuck out of here" Huey said as Adam nodded his head.

He turned his attention towards Damien. "Hey, Dam. Gather your belongings, and make sure the girls are ready. We'll be back with the hostage" Adam requested.

"What other choice do I have" Damien replied.

Adam shook his head, before leaving with Huey to get Cairo.

"Clear! "

Upon entering The McPhearsons' mansion, SWAT troops kicked open doors in every room.

The troops aimed their firearms as they began their search, tearing apart the furniture and ramming through drawers, hoping to find potential hiding places in hopes of finding the adolescent targets.

"Subject is a deceased, Asian female," The team hurried towards Ming's body, flashing their lights her.

"What is the cause of death?" Soldier one inquired..

"A single stab wound in the abdomen, possible self- affliction " soldier 2 confirmed.

"Interesting.. Any signs of the girl?" Soldier 1 asked.

"No signs of the girl yet Sir" Soldier 2 replied.

"Okay, keep looking she should be here somewhere ,' Soldier one said.

'Copy that,' they said as they continued their search.

Meanwhile in surveillance room..

"Riley, what do we do, what do we do" Cindy said in a panic.

'Hold on, Babe, let me think,' Riley said as he paced back and forth.

What would Huey do? He wondered.

"Yo, we don't have time to think! We figured this shit out or else we're dead" Jose exclaimed, interrupting his thoughts.

"Nigga figuring shit out is thinking!" Riley argued.

"Well, think fast cuz pacing back and forth don't do nothing but waste time! " Jose snapped back.

"Shush! Guys, we need to keep it down or they will hear us,' Veronica warned, her voice shook with fear.

"She's right, We can come up with a plan together, but arguing won't lead to anything," Tia said nervously.

"What if we fight back? We got guns too," Cindy said while Jose nodded in agreement.

"I don't know, Babe. There are six of them and five of us. These niggas are equipped with bulletproof body armor and weapons that are stronger. They trained for this shit. "Riley said, trying to think rationally.

"Yo, you is wildin bro. So what are we supposed to do? Stand here and die on some nut shit?" Jose said in disbelief. He couldn't believe out of all people Riley was against fighting back.

"Fuck no, you already know I'm not finna be on some nut shit. What I'm saying is it wouldn't be wise for us to come out blazing. We not in a position to attack, we need to do this the right way. We lost too many bodies already. Now is not the time to act reckless, "Riley explained as he found himself sounding just like his older brother.

Jose blew his breath in frustration, 'A'aight, so what's the plan then?'

Riley breathed deeply as he felt the weight on his shoulders. "One of us gonna have to go out there and distract them,"

"What! " Everyone exclaimed.

"Nigga are you high or something? That's suicide. we should stick together on this," Jose said, disagreeing.

"Nah. Hear me out. There are some firecrackers in my bag in Cindy's room. All I need to do is sneak in and obtain them. Then ima caused a riot in one of the rooms and lead them to me. Meanwhile, y'all gone dip," He explained.

"Wait. I know you not about to volunteer to be no distraction!? " Cindy said in realization.

"Yes, I am. I'm the fastest out of all of us, plus I know ya crib like the back of my hand from all the times I had to sneak in here," He revealed.

"Nah, Fuck that! You not finna be no scapegoat! "Cindy said she wasn't having it.

"Babe, it's the only way. It's only a matter of time they gonna run up on us, and when they do, they finna kill us. If I can distract them, y'all can use that opportunity to sneak out the house "Riley explained,

"Nah, Find another fucking way! Cindy said, shaking her head.

"There ain't no other way!" Riley exclaimed. "

"Cindy, I think Riley plan can work. Besides, We really don't have much time," Tia said as she agreed with Riley.

"Well. Why don't you do it then, Tia? You the one with the dying wish" Cindy said out of anger.

"Nah, Tia not doing shit. She's pregnant remember? . If anyone should do it, then it should be me," Jose volunteered.

"No, Jose, you can't," Veronica didn't like the idea.

"Well, my man can't either, the fuck!" Cindy said, aggressively.

Riley placed his hands on Cindy's shoulders. "I know you ain't trying to hear it, but trust me on this, babe," he said calmly.

Cindy voice cracked as she said, 'Reezy, I can't lose you too,"

"You'll never lose me, babe. 'I promise,' he stated before putting his lips against hers. They kissed passionately before separating.

The soldiers were heard near by. The camera captured them making their way to the third floor.

'Yo, I gotta go!' Riley announced.

'Riley, I swear you better not die on me,' Cindy said, losing her mind.

Riley grinned, "I'm a gangsta baby. I live for this shit " he said confidently.

Cindy held onto him as she was afraid to let go.

As tears fell from her eyes, she whispered, 'I love you'.

His eyes watered as he knew this may be his last time seeing her face. 'I love you too,' he said before, grabbing hold of his gun.

'Yo Zay,' Riley said, tossing him a gun that he caught.

"It's all on you, " he said as Jose understood .

'You already know, bro' Jose said, holding back tears.

Riley waited until he knew it was safe before finally exiting the room. Cindy immediately fell to her knees, Tia and Veronica, who were also rushed to her side to support her.

Jose ran his fingers through his hair. Inside, he was freaking out. His best friend was putting his life on the line, and he wasn't even confident the plan would work. On the other hand, how the hell is it supposed to be possible for them to sneak out of the house safely?

"Charlie!" Jazmine exclaimed as she approached Charlie who was gathering supplies. "We have to leave. We're being attacked!"

"I know " Charlie said as she continued on. "Get your backpack, Take all you can" she advised.

"Yes" Jazmine said as she helped gathered supplies.

As she was packing as fast as she could, Charlie nudged her. Jazmine stopped what she was doing and turned to Charlie who held out the gun to her.

Jazmine's eyes widened as she shook her head.

"Charlie.. I, I can't take that," she stuttered as she was afraid.

"Remember what we discussed," Charlie reminded her. "The damsel is no longer in distress. You need to protect yourself,' she told her.

Jazmine looked at the gun and then back at her reassuring eyes.

She knew Charlie was right. She couldn't depend on Huey or Damien; she needed to learn to protect herself. Besides, she may need it to protect them.

Jazmine's fingers quivered as she reached for the gun. She took a deep breath before taking it from Charlie's hands.

"Atta girl " Charlie smirked proudly.

Damien stormed into the room.

"You ladies all packed up? We don't have much time. ' He said with a patient tone. He was feeling a little anxious inside.

"Yes. But have you seen Adam? " Charlie inquired.

"He and Huey are getting the hostage" Damien confirmed as Charlie nodded.

"Okay, we must hurry," Charlie said as she made her way out.

Damien looked at Jazmine, who didn't move as she seemed scared.

"Hey, it's going to be alright. I promise, " Damien said, holding her hand.

"I'm scared Damien," she admitted. It wasn't a surprise that Jazmine hated traveling outside. It always made her feel anxious because bad things happened.

"I know baby, but we have to go. Dangerous people are heading our way," With one of his hands, Damien raised her chin. "I love you, and I will do everything in my power to protect you,"

Jazmine eyes softened as it was her second time hearing him say those three-letter words to her.

As Damien leaned forward, Jazmine stood frozen. For a moment, it was as if she allowing him to kiss her, but then...

"JAZMINE!"

Huey's voice was heard, causing them to break the space between them. His voice was filled with panic as he hollered.

"C'MON, JAZ, WE HAVE TO GO! "

Jazmine flinched " I'm coming! " she let go of Damien's hand and rushed out of the room. Damien, who was had it with Huey, followed behind her.

Jazmine hurried downstairs and found Huey waiting for her. His expression was a combination of worry and anger.

"What took you so long? " Huey asked while looking at Damien with suspicion.

" I was making sure I didn't forget anything," Jazmine clarified.

Damien scoffed. "Jazmine, you don't have to explain shit to this lunatic,"

Huey immediately got in his face.

"Say that again and see what happens, " Huey said in a threatening tone.

Damien was about to make a comment, but Charlie stood between them.

"Guys. We don't have time for this. We need to get out of here as soon as possible! "Charlie said nervously .

"She's right. Pretty soon they will be making their attack! " Adam stated while holding a handcuffed Cairo.

"Alright, then We'll exit from the back, "Huey said, coming to his senses.

"WOW. Huey, I never thought I see the day you'd run away like a little bitch. Typical pussy shit"Cairo remarked.

"Are you interested in staying? You're welcome to be tethered to that chair. I'm positive that those racist thugs will have a good time with you," Adam remarked.

"Fuck you Chad,' Cairo said. Suddenly, a burning brick was thrown from the window, causing everyone to back away cautiously.

"Let's move! " Huey shouted as they all ran towards the backyard.

"Sarah?"

As she recognized the voice, Sarah turned her head in confusion. She glanced over to see a tall black man dressed in a stylish white suit. His dark, short, wavy hair, caramel complexion, still remained the same. yet, she wasn't quite sure.

"D-Derrick? " Sarah said with uncertainty.

He instantly smiled. 'So you do remember me,' he said as he approached her.

Sarah scoffed, crossing her arms. "How can I trust that it's you if I can't even see your face? '

He laughed before removing his mask to reveal his face.

Sarah gasped, "My god, it's really you, "she said, stunned. The man before her was Derrick Washington, her former crush.

"Yes, and it's really you, "he said excitedly.

"Oh Derrick, it's good to see you again," Sarah extended her arms to him. The sight of a familiar face brought her tears to her eyes.

"Sarah, it's good to see you too,"He responded, hugging her back. They hugged for a brief moment before departing.

"Pardon me. It's just good to know that I'm not alone in this, "Sarah admitted as she felt slightly embarrassed.

Derrick chuckled softly. " You haven't changed a bit. Well, except your hair is shorter now" he said jokingly. "but you're still as beautiful as I remembered,"

Sarah blushed hard. "Oh, stop. Derrick. The only one who hasn't changed is you. You still look as you did in college, " Sarah said, complimenting him.

"Well, you know what they say. Black don't crack" he whispered causing Sarah to laugh hysterically.

"My goodness! "Sarah spoke, clutching her chest to contain her laughter. "I haven't laughed that much in so long, "she admitted as she caught herself. It's not appropriate for her to laugh. This wasn't a laughing matter.

He smiled at her handsomely, 'I'm pleased I can still bring a smile to that gorgeous face,"

"You're kind, Derrick, but it doesn't feel right to celebrate. I have no doubt that you are aware of what's happening. It's horrible what they're doing with our children, " she mentioned sadly.

'Sarah, please don't be so negative,' he said, prompting a displeased look on her face. The night of our rebirth is a great reason to celebrate, " he said with encouragement.

Sarah's heart sank to the floor. "What's with this Rebirth nonsense," The term was mentioned in the letter she found this morning, as she was sick of hearing it and not knowing what it meant.

"Sarah, allow me to enlighten you," Derrick stated. "The purpose of the rebirth ceremony is to acknowledge the individuals who were chosen for another chance at life,"

"Chosen ones? " She said as she recalled back to the letter also stated she was in fact a chosen one.

"You and I, as well as every other person in this room, are the chosen ones," Derrick replied. "We have been chosen to receive an opportunity of a lifetime. A second chance of life,"

"Why would I want a second chance of life? I already have a life that I enjoy with my teenage daughter and loving husband," Sarah said angrily.

Derrick shook his head at her. "Come with me. I want to introduce you to some friends,' He said, placing his hand on hers.

Sarah hesitated before accepting his hand.

"Derrick?"

'Yes?' Derrick replied as they walked through the ballroom.

"Perhaps one who was chosen decided they didn't want another chance. What would be the outcome for them? " Sarah inquired curiously.

Derrick seemed surprised by her question. "Oh, you don't want to know,"

"Oh, but I do, " Sarah said persistently.

"Sarah, no one has ever dared to ask such a question, but if I could imagine what would happen, I would say the consequences would be dire," He said, being around the bush.

Sarah was tempted to respond, but they stopped at a table where they spotted some familiar faces.

Sarah widened her eyes when she recognized a few faces. The table was occupied by Hiro's parents, the Otomos. The Long-Dous, Ming's parents, and most importantly, Lauren Anderson, Penelope's mother.

'Lauren! ' Sarah exclaimed as she rushed towards her friend and gave her a big hug.

"Oh. Hello. Sarah," Lauren said plainly. She patted Sarah's back lightly and pulled away. Sarah felt a disconnect from her, but she was too thrilled to even care.

"Thank God, you're alive, " Sarah expressed. "We were so worried about you, " she said, referring to the other moms at the camp.

Lauren squinted at her confusion. "When did I die? " She said as Sarah chuckled at her.

"Our hope was that you didn't die, but we were apprehensive. You and I both know that once you're taken from the camp, you somehow never came back. " Sarah reminded her.

Lauren nodded her head In a robotic manner while saying 'Mhm'.

'So. ' Sarah said, breaking the silence. "How do you feel about this so-called celebration? " She said it sarcastically. "Some joke huh? I mean, how can they call this a celebration when our kids are literally alone and in danger? " She expressed, shaking her head.

"I cannot speak for everyone, but I am pleased with this outcome," Lauren said nonchalantly. "I received a new beginning, a fresh start in life, and I am now happier than ever,"

Sarah stared at her in disbelief. "Lauren, how could you say such a thing? Your daughter is out in the world by herself, probably fighting for her life," She said with disappointment.

"Penelope is a strong girl who can handle herself, " Lauren said dismissively.

"Penelope is a child, your child! She needs you the most right now," Sarah exclaimed.

"Sarah, with all due respect, Penelope is no longer my concern. I have embarked on a new life and career. A new home. In fact, I met someone. He's a successful heart surgeon and we're getting married," With a beam of light in her eyes. "He had a child from a past life that he had given up on. He is reborn, and was chosen specifically for me, " she explained.

"He's been chosen for you'? " Sarah said in disbelief .

"Yes and A new child has been given to us, and she goes by the name Francis. At the age of five, she is proficient in six languages. We look forward to meeting her, " Lauren said, excitedly

"My god! "Sarah whispered as she couldn't believe her ears. " But what about Penelope, Don't you love her?'

"Penelope was someone I loved, but she's from a past life. A life that I regret to this day. I fell in love with a married man, but eventually he left me. My child's upbringing was a struggle for me alone. I never got the chance to live my life to the fullest.' Lauren expressed. "I've been given the chance to experience a family with a new identity,"

"Oh, Luaren, cut the crap. You lived a wonderful life. Maybe you struggled as a teen, but you got it together and made a life for yourself and your daughter. You have acquired a degree in law, relocated to the suburbs, and most importantly. You have a beautiful, intelligent daughter who's counting on you to come back home," Sarah said, putting her in her place.

Lauren's eyes became tearful. 'My daughter is gone. I can feel it. " She said as that was the most sincere thing she said.

"You don't know that," Sarah said softly.

"A mother knows", Lauren said. Sarah stood speechless as she had the same feeling about Jazmune, but the opposite. She knew her daughter was still fighting for her life.

"I understand you feel alone, but you can't give up now, Penelope wouldn't want you to," Sarah encouraged, hoping to get hold of her.

Lauren eyes went from sincere to emotionless. "When you received a new life. It's important to let go of the old one. I have, they did too. " She was referring to Ming and Hiro's parents who were nodding their heads in agreement.

"And pretty soon you will too, " Lauren said to Sarah, who looked horrified. This wasn't the Lauren she knew. She was brainwashed.

"This isn't you, Lauren. What have they done with you, " Sarah said, shaking her head.

Lauren smiled at her. "Soon you will understand and you will see things how they are meant to be, "

"No, this is not how things are meant to be!" Sarah shouted frustration. She turned to Derrick, who was standing next to her.

"These people are neighbors of mine, their children are close friends with my daughter. They are good people. They loved their children and they would never be okay with this," Sarah exclaimed. Something just wasn't adding up and she wanted answers.

"If you have knowledge of what was done to them. You need to tell me, please!" Sarah demanded.

Derrick sighed in disappointment. He grasped her wrists tightly. "Sarah, your friends are born again. There's nothing to be frightened of. It's inevitable that you'll need to let go of the past and embrace what the future holds,"

Sarah scoffed as she yanked her hands away. "I knew there was a good reason I didn't marry you," She then looked at Lauren, Ming's and Hiro's parents with disgust.

"You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Giving up on your children for what? A propaganda lie, " she said with a snort. "I'm so disgusted, I can't even look at you.'. She said to them before storming away.

Derrick went after her. "Sarah, don't make a scene!" He caught up to her and grab her arm.

"Fuck off, Derrick" Sarah snapped. While she was on her way out of the ballroom, the president unexpectedly entered.

Sarah was shocked as the entire room silenced, with everyone gazing at the President, who was ascending the stage. Once he made it, he signaled to the pianist to stop the music. He turned on the microphone that stood in front of him before speaking.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the rebirth!" He said as everyone applauded. "I want to thank you all for joining me on this special night. I am confident that you comprehend that your participation is an invaluable contribution towards restoring America's greatness," He said, earning a second round of applause.

"Get comfortable now, folks. I have a surprise for you all to look forward to," He said before snapping his fingers. When he did that, two suited men pulled back the curtain to reveal a large projector screen.

"As you all know. The purging has already begun, and without this purge, we wouldn't be able to receive this opportunity. An opportunity to rectify our mistakes and improve ourselves and our society. This wonderful experience was created solely for one reason. To contribute to a better world. A chance to be born again, and that wouldn't be possible without a true sacrifice. A sacrifice made by the young people of America. I want to express my deepest gratitude by presenting live footage of The Purge to you!" He exclaimed, earning another round of applause.

The lights dimmed and the projector screen board showed live footage, prompting everyone to cheer. Sarah observed with close attention. Her eyes twitched as groups of teenagers dressed in costumes and masks went on a killing spree. Their actions included looting businesses, burning cars, buildings, and schools. The slaughter of innocent children and teenagers was happening in various cities. One in particular, WoodCrest, which Sarah recognized instantly. She observed as the hometown she grew to love deteriorated to a point where it was almost unrecognizable. The neighborhoods were overflowing with blood and dead bodies. The clip abruptly ended, and everyone roared and clapped excitedly.

At the same time, Sarah was shaking with terror. A mother's fear has come to haunt her.

'Noo!' Sarah screamed in agony, she dropped to her knees.

'Not my baby' She wailed as she imagined losing her child. She couldn't fathom what her daughter must be going through. How terrified she must be. Her heart shattered as she knew there was nothing she could do to protect her. Her only option was to hope and pray that her child survives.

Feeling the adrenaline coursing through him, Riley raced to Cindy's room. He swiftly retrieved the firecrackers from his backpack and arranged them beside the door. These firecrackers weren't ordinary firecrackers. They were handmade with deadly explosives by Huey to attack future enemies. Riley intended to use it on the soldiers and anticipate that it would potentially kill them, allowing Cindy and the crew to escape the mansion.

He had the intention of escaping by using the third-floor window. Back when he was a kid, Huey used to lock him in his room as a form of punishment. In an attempt to escape his bedroom, Riley would use the bedsheets to create a rope to climb down the window. Because Cindy house was higher, the rope will only get him low enough for him for land safety. He would still have to jump the rest of the way. He wasn't sure if it would work, and he wasn't even sure if he would be able to land successfully. Despite his doubts, He was willing to take the risk to save his girlfriend and friends.

During the process of tying Cindy's bedsheets into a rope, Riley could hear the soldiers' voices as they had approached the third floor.

"Clear! in room 8!"

"Keep looking! I know she's in here somewhere!"

"Hide, but you won't be able to run! " The caption said in a threatening tone.

Riley fastened the bedsheet rope to Cindy's bed frame. He tugged on it to ensure it was tight.

When he was done, he peeked through the cracked door as they were bursting inside the rooms, making their way towards the surveillance room.

'Shit! ' He cursed as he knew he had to stop them.

"Aye! Pussies! He hollered, immediately gaining the attention of the soldiers.

" Y'all want this smoke? Get it then!"

"Hands in the air! " The soldiers yelled as they raced towards Cindy room.

"No! " Cindy whispered as she Riley's voice was heard.

Along with others, she watched the cameras in horror as the soldiers approached Riley's location.

:

"This one for Tupac" Riley said as he sparked up the firecrackers. He leapt from the window using the bedsheet rope.

Then suddenly..

BOOM!

"Let's move! " Jose shouted, leading the girls out the door.

Cindy stood motionless as she observed smoke coming from her room

"Riley!" She cried, as she wanted to see if Riley was okay, but she was immediately pulled back by the others.

"Cindy! We need to leave! " Veronica said in panic.

"I'm not leaving without Riley! " Cindy shouted.

"Yo, we out! " Jose yelled and grabbed Cindy's arm.

'Get the fuck off me! ' She shouted as she started swinging at him, but Tia and Veronica grabbed her.

Cindy screamed as she felt herself being dragged against her will.

:

The explosions caused the sheet to catch fire and lead to the rope burning. Riley was conscious that if he did not move quickly, the rope would completely burn and he would fall incorrectly.

Riley took a moment to close his eyes and pray while his heart was pounding.

He took a deep breath before descending. While he was doing so, he could feel his hand getting hot as the rope was on fire. Despite feeling a burn sensation, he continued to descend. When he was close enough to the ground, he released the rope and, through the grace of God, he safely reached the ground.

:

Jose, Cindy, Tia, and Veronica hurried out, but were unexpectedly confronted by more SWAT soldiers who immediately aimed their guns at them.

'Freeze! They demanded, prompting them to stop.

"Hands in the air!"

'The fuck you want from us! ' Jose yelled in frustration.

'HANDS IN THE FUCKING AIR! ' The soldier yelled, kicking Jose to the ground.

As Jose was kicked, Veronica screamed. He grunted as he took it all in.

"Stop! Please! "Veronica pleaded.

Jose's mouth was bleeding and he was coughing. The soldiers pinned him down and restrained him with handcuffs.

Veronica shouted, "Jose!"

'Hands up now! The soldier demanded, pointing his gun at the three ladies.

'Y'all just do what they say,' Cindy said in a shaky voice. As they held their hands up, Veronica and Tia nodded their heads.

They were immediately apprehended by SWAT soldiers, who handcuffed them behind their backs.

"Why are you doing this? "Veronica whimpered.

"No questions asked. Get down on the ground! "The soldier demanded.

The girls shivered as they were obliged to lie down.

One soldier grabbed Cindy, forcing her to stand back up.

He pointed his flashlight at her face and said, 'You'.

"State your name?" He demanded.

'Fuck you,' Cindy said without warning. The soldier fired a bullet near Jose's head, but it was intentionally missed.

The girls screamed because they believed he had been shot.

"Next time I won't miss" he warned. "Now state your goddamn name or the boy dies!" He shouted, causing Cindy to flinch.

Her cheeks were filled with tears as she glared at him and answered,

"Cindy McPhearson," She said through gritted teeth.

"Cindy, as in Cynthia McPhearson? " He corrected her.

"Yes," she replied.

Without a word, the soldier snapped his fingers and suddenly Cindy was grabbed by two soldiers.

Cindy screamed, but her handcuffs prevented her from doing anything. She was shoved inside the back of a police car.

"Easy on her. " He said, demanded. "George McPhearson desires that she remain unharmed,"

Cindy's eyes grew wide.

'The fuck? ' She mumbled to herself, as George McPhearson is her father's name.

"What about the others? "A soldier inquired.

While gazing at the remaining teens lying on the floor, the captain shook his head.

"Kill them"

'No! ' Cindy shouted.

:

'Riley was horrified as he watched the scene from a distance. After landing safely, he had intended to meet with the others, but he was surprised to see another group of SWAT soldiers circling the front entrance with their guns pointed at his friends. Now they have Cindy in their custody. Meanwhile, Tia, Jose, and Veronica were lying on the ground with their arms handcuffed behind their backs.

'Kill them! ' He heard one say as one of the soldiers made his way towards Jose with a gun pointed at him.

"No! Riley said as he felt powerless. He had an urge to save them, but he was clueless about what to do. He knew that attempting to attack them would only lead to death. For the first time, he felt helpless because he was about to lose his friends, including his girlfriend, and there was no way he could prevent it.

Jazmine looked back in horror as the house that was once their safe space was in turmoil. The cult had invaded inside. She could hear them shouting, breaking things as they searched for potential victims.

"We're almost there, " Huey told her as he held her hand. ignoring the agony in her legs, Jazmine picked up her pace.

Damien ran behind them, trying to catch up with them.

Meanwhile Charlie and Adam were running behind Cairo, who was running with hands handcuffed in front of him.. Cairo had given up on trying to escape because he knew it was impossible without risking his life. Despite this, they were still uncertain about him, therefore They kept a close watch.

The crew ran until they reached a gated fence.

As they came to a stop, Jazmine felt herself gasping for air. Both Huey and Damien rushed to assist her.

"Wait.." she said, breathlessly. She held her hand up to stop them. She brought out her inhaler and took a deep breath. When she was done. She placed the inhaler back into her pocket.

"I'm fine" she said, getting herself together.

"Are you sure ?" Damien asked.

"Yes" Jazmine responded.

Huey looked at her worried but then he nodded his head.

"What now? " Charlie inquired while gazing at the chain link fence.

"Looks like we're climbing this fence," Adam stated as there was no other option.

"Geez, I haven't climbed in ages, "Charlie admitted.

"Babe, you'll be fine. You're the best fence climber I know, " he said with a smirk.

"Yo, ima need yall to take these handcuffs off me"Cairo interrupted. "I won't be able to climb with my hands like this, "

"That's sounds like a YOU problem ' Huey said carelessly.

Cairo smacked his teeth. "Yo, Huey quit playing. How else am I supposed to get on the other side?"

Huey and Adam glanced at one another with a smirk on their faces.

"Care to elaborate to him?" Adam asked.

"Nah. He gonna have to fuck around and find out for himself, " Huey said carelessly.

"Hold up. I know y'all not planning to leave me here" Cairo said with a nervous tone. 'Y'all need me, remember? ' He said, glaring at them.

"Wait! Y'all gonna just leave me here! "Cairo shouted as they ignored him.

'So, who wants to go first? ' Adam asked, ignoring Cairo as he lashed out.

"The ladies should go first" Huey suggested.

"I agree. Charlie? "Adam said, looking at Charlie. "After you my lady," he said as Charlie smiled.

'Thank you, sir,' she jokingly said before climbing the fence. When she made it to the top, she leapt over and landed on her feet flawlessly.

Adam whistled with pride, 'That's my girl'.

Cairo smacked his teeth, 'You act like she did something special. Climbing a fence is the most basic shit ever"

'Bet you won't be saying that when it's your turn,' Adam remarked as Cairo mumbled a few insults.

"Anyway, who's next? "Adam said, looking at Jazmine, who gulped deeply.

"I guess I am, "she said, looking up at the fence nervously as she had never climbed one in her life .

"I'll give you a boost, "Huey volunteered.

"Jazmine, I got you, "Damien said, standing in front of Huey. They too began to exchange looks ready to get into another argument.

"Guys, I'm okay. I don't need help," Jazmine spoke up because she didn't want them to fight.

"Are you sure? it's really not as easy as it looks,"Damien asked as he was unsure.

'Yes,' Jazmine said with confidence. She looked at Huey, who looked uncertain.

"I know what you're about to say, but I need to learn to do things on my own." She told him.

Huey sighed, he knew she was right. "Fine, but be careful especially when you reach the top, "he said as he stood behind her.

"If not, she's going to break that pretty neck of hers. " Cairo remarked,

Huey glared at him. "You better hope your neck is still intact when it's your turn. You're climbing next with handcuffs included, "

'This some ole bullshit,' Cairo mumbled.

"Is there a problem Cairo? " Huey spoke aggressively.

"Nah, let the shorty get her little turn so we can get this shit over with," Cairo said dismissively.

Damien held in Jazmine hand.

"Are you ready? "Jazmine exhaled in response.

'Yes' Jazmine said, facing the fence.

"No matter what you do, don't look down. It will make you more nervous, "Damien advised.

'Okay', Jazmine said, taking a deep breath.

"You got this girl, " Charlie said, encouraging her.

Jazmine smiled as she felt encouraged, but as she got closer to the fence, she realized it would be a bit of a challenge. The fence was in disrepair due to its rust, sharp steel edges, and small holes. In addition, it was quite tall, standing thirty feet tall.

She inhaled deeply before climbing up. It wasn't as easy as she thought it would be. As she clenched her body against the fence, she used her fingers to hook them through the wire openings, which caused her hands to become sore, but she persevered. She was determined to get to the other side.

Upon reaching the top, she made an error and looked down. As she did, her heart raced, and she felt terrified by the fence's height. As if Huey knew her thought,

"Jazmine, it's okay" Huey said, calmly.

His voice alone made her feel safe and she knew it was okay. With a sense of motivation, she carefully switched to the opposite side of the fence. Charlie was there to cheer her on as she gracefully made her way down. When she made it to the ground, Charlie just hugged her.

"I knew you had it in you, "she whispered in her ear before pulling away.

She glanced across the fence to see Huey and Damien with faces of relief.

"It's your turn now Cairo" Adam said in a taunting tone.

Damien stepped forward before Cairo had time to speak.

"Wait. It's best for me to go ahead of him. I don't want him trying anything with the girls when he gets on the other side, Damien stated.

Huey believed it was an excuse for him to be the first to get to Jazmine, yet he remained silent.

"Okay, that's fine by me, Adam said, not caring at the moment. Damien had a point. He was confident that Charlie could handle Cairo, and it would be advisable to have one of the guys on the opposing side prior to Cairo.

Damien didn't waste any time; without a struggle, he climbed the fence and made it to the other side.

He was met by a pair of slim arms as Jazmine embraced him. Huey shook his head, feeling the burning in his chest once more.

"Cairo, your next" Huey announced.

Cairo stepped forward and attempted to get on the fence, but it was difficult due to the cuffs.

Cairo complained in annoyance, 'Yo, Can I get a lift?'

"We'll give you a lift but after that you're on your own" Adam said.

"Failure to succeed will result in you being left behind,"Huey threatened.

Cairo blew his breath out of frustration. He was really getting tired of being pushed around.

"A'ight, can all boast me now?" He asked more politely.

Adam and Huey worked together to lift Cairo towards the fence. Cairo grasped the wire openings and firmly held onto them. Due to the handcuffs, it was more difficult for him to climb up. Not to mention, one of his fingers was missing thanks to Huey.

"Shit" Cairo cursed, as he felt a throbbing pain, in his hand. His hand was still weak and the pressure was having an effect on his nerves.

Adam, who became impatient, decided to go ahead of Cairo and climbed up. Unlike Cairo, who was still struggling, he made it to the other side and reunited with the girls and Damien.

"You're slowing us down, Cairo,"Huey announced.

"Maybe I wouldn't if it wasn't for you" Cairo said with gritted teeth.

"What's wrong, pal? I thought you said this was the basic task? "Adam said, taunting him.

'Man, fuck you,' Cairo said as he continued climbing. When he finally reached the top and over the fence, he ended up losing his grip, which caused him to let go.

Cairo hollered as he was about to fall on his back, but luckily for him, Cairo and Damien were there to catch him.

"Yo, Get off me!" Cairo shouted in embarrassment.

"It's thank you and You're lucky we even caught your ass" Adam said, letting him go.

Whatever,' Cairo said stubbornly.

Damien scoffed, 'I don't even know why we're even saving him. ' All he ever does is slow us down"

"And all you ever do whine like a bitch, "Cairo shouted.

"Says the one who was screaming like one, "Damien remarked.

"You're just mad because little shorty friend-zoned your ass, apparently she prefers Afros" Cairo said referring to Jazmine.

Triggered, Damien shouted, 'Man, fuck this, I'll kill this fool myself! 'He headed towards Cairo ready to attack, but Charlie and Adam intervened.

During Adam's handling of Cairo, Charlie pulled Damien away.

"Damien, you need to calm down. This is not the time, "Charlie demanded.

"Fuck that. This fool needs a taste of his own medicine " Damien threatened. "You know what, I'm out, "he said, walking off.

"Damien, wait! "Jazmine said, approaching him. "We have to stick together. "

"It's not worth it if it continues like this. I would rather it be just between me and you. Everyone else can go, "Damien said out of anger.

"Please, stop this. I understand you're upset, but this isn't the way.," She touched his hand.

Damien breathed deeply as her touch eased his nerves.

"Look, I'm sorry. I just got a little worked up, but you're right,"Damien apologized.

"It's okay, " she responded. "Are you okay? "She asked.

"Yeah, I am now, "he said with a smile.

Jazmine blushed a bit and tucked a curl behind her ear with nervousness. "We should go back with the rest. Huey still hasn't had his turn yet,"

"What turn? "Huey's voice was heard. Jazmine turned around to see Huey clearly climbed the fence.

Jazmine ran towards him and gave him a hug.

Damien rolled his eyes. She reacted as though it were her first time seeing him.

Huey backed away. 'You alright?' He asked her and she nodded. He looked over Damien, who appeared annoyed.

"You know you shouldn't fight with the hostage, " Huey stated.

"That's hypercritical. You were ready to tear his face apart from talking about Jazmine, "Damien remarked.

He didn't appreciate Huey confronting him when he was guilty of doing the same thing.

"That's false. I didn't let his words get the best of me because I have self-control. I would never harm unless I felt it was necessary, but you. " Huey scoffed in disgust. 'You're a ticking bomb. You better grow some thicker skin or it will be the death of you." Huey warned him.

Standing awkwardly, Jazmine shook her head at Damien, signaling him to turn the other cheek. , She hoped he wouldn't let Huey's words get to him, but Damien was fed up.

" Save the advice for yourself, Freeman, especially given that you can't even handle rejection. I heard you were a ticking bomb when you found out about Jazmine and I. Matter of fact, the only reason we're not together right now is because she's afraid that you'll throw another tantrum. "

"I'm not entertaining this, come on Jazmine," Huey said, walking away from the situation.

"Be honest with yourself, Huey," Damien continued.

"The only reason you even want Jazmine now is because that girl you were dealing with back at home is dead, "Damien said, causing Huey to come to an abrupt stop.

Jazmine watched with fear as Huey turned around with a ruthless glare. Even though he didn't speak, she could tell by the heaved of his chest and the shaking of his hands that a nerve had been struck.

Damien was unfazed by this and proceeded to stepped closer to Huey.

"The truth hurts, doesn't it Freeman? " Damien taunted him. Huey breathed heavily as clenched his fist. It looked as if he were about to attack, but suddenly Adam approached them.

"Hey, We need to keep moving before they catch on to us," Adam urged. He observed Damien and Huey, who were engaged in an intense stare-off. Even Jazmine appeared to be visibly upset.

"Is there a problem? " Adam posed the question to both of them.

"Nah," Huey finally replied. "Let's keep moving" Huey announced before walking ahead of them.

Damien glanced at Jazmine, who appeared hurt. "I'm sorry, but I'm not sorry about what I said," He said, hoping she would understand. Jazmine didn't say a word as she walked off, following behind Huey who had stopped to wait for her.

Damien felt guilty as he stood in defeat. He knew Jazmine was disappointed in him. He didn't mean to upset her, but at the same time he wasn't sorry. Huey's smart remarks were getting to him, and most importantly, he didn't like that Jazmine had put their relationship on hold to avoid hurting Huey's feelings.

Adam, who was observing the entire situation, turned to Charlie.

"Babe, take the hostage and catch up with the others. I need to have a word with Damien," Charlie nodded. She nudged Cairo with her gun, urging him to keep moving.

Adam approached Damien while Charlie and Cairo were catching up with the others.

"Word of advice, you need to put your personal issues aside. If you continue fighting like this, we won't make it through the bigger problems that lie ahead," Adam said, looking at him disappointed.

"Why don't you tell your new buddy over there? "Damien said, referring to Huey. He's the issue, yet everyone wants to point fingers at me.

"No one pointed a finger at anyone, "Adam denied. "As your friend, I am letting you know that you are making a mistake. Your actions are only going to push her away. Stop letting the smallest things get to you, stop trying to compete for her affection, and just be there to support and protect her. Give her time to figure out what she wants. Remember that when something is meant to be, it will be,"

"Whatever," Damien said stubbornly, storming off.

Without saying anothing further, Adam shook his head.

They had a long night ahead of them.

"Please, don't do this. " Veronica whimpered. Tia, who lay beside her, remained silent. Jose, who was striving to remain strong, lay in defeat. His tears came from his eyes as he realized it was over.

"Any last words? " The soldier said in a taunting voice.

"Fuck you!" Jose shouted.

The soldiers laughed, 'Poor choice of words, but that will suffice," He aimed the gun at Jose and said.

"Adios, Amigo", he remarked. Jose closed his eyes as he knew this was the end.

However, suddenly...

The sound of a van was heard along with..

IT'S THE INJUSTICE BITCHES! "

A familiar voice was heard as gunshots erupted.

The intensity of gunshots, screaming, and bodies falling on the ground was intense. The shooting stopped moments later, and silence prevailed.

Jose, who had been keeping his eyes closed, finally opened his eyes because he couldn't believe he was still alive.

Did he get shot?

Momentarily, heavy footsteps were heard approaching them.

Veronica's body began to shake due to the trauma, and Tia, who thought she was dead, remained still due to shock. Cindy was still handcuffed inside the police vehicle even though she had ducked her head. She wept as she pictured her friends being killed during the shooting.

Suddenly, she heard the glass breaking from the car window. She observed that the individual seemed to be making an attempt to break into the car. Whoever it was they were coming after her, she lowered her head and shed a tear as she accepted her fate.

"Well, well, well. Look who it is, C-Motherfucking-Murph! " Cindy gasped and looked up as she remembered that voice.

Her eyes widened and a smile appeared on her face when she saw the face that matched the voice.

:

Tia had a feeling of being released from her handcuffs, but her shock prevented her from moving. Unexpectedly, she was lifted off the ground. She closed her eyes in belief that it was the soldiers.

As she wished to die, she said, "Just kill me now, you bastard."

"Tia, baby, it's me,"

As soon as she heard his voice. Her heart skipped a beat, her eyes popped open, and he was standing in front of her.

The boy who was her greatest love, standing before her, was in perfect health, dressed in a military uniform with a rifle on his back.

The person she had expected to never see again was gazing back at her, his eyes were brimming with tears. Tia blinked rapidly, unable to believe it was him.

"Caesar?"
