Aria stood on the beach, the Thousand Sunny visible in the distance not far from the shore. The ship took significant damage during their run in with the marines earlier that afternoon and was temporarily out of commission for repairs. Aria looked out onto the ocean, the sky lit up in shades of orange and pink, casting a warm glow over everything it touched below.
Aria closed her eyes as she stepped into the water, feeling the gentle breeze on her face. She stood still for a moment as she listened to the sound of the waves. She wanted to learn more about her abilities and how she could speak to the sea.
Just then, Usopp walked over to where Aria was standing in the water. He saw that she had her eyes closed, seemingly deep in thought. He approached her slowly, not wanting to disturb her. "Hey Aria," he said softly, as not to startle her.
"Oh, hey Usopp." Aria said softly. She opened her eyes and looked toward him.
Usopp smiled and stood with her, looking out at the ocean. "Beautiful, isn't it?" he said, gesturing towards the horizon. "The sky, the water, the colors."
Aria nodded. "It really is." Sunset skies over the ocean were one of her favorite sights to see.
Usopp noticed the faraway look in Aria's eyes, like she had something on her mind. He tilted his head slightly, studying her expression. "Is everything okay?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.
She smiled softly. "Yeah. I was just thinking. It was a close call earlier with Luffy and those marines."
Usopp nodded. "Yeah, that was a close one. Luckily, we made it out safe and sound."
The two of them stood in silence for a moment, listening to the sound of the gentle waves lapping against the shore. "But I have a feeling that our run ins with the marines aren't over yet," Usopp said, frowning. He continued. "I guess we'll just have to wait and see, huh?" He glanced over at Aria, studying her for a moment. He could tell that she was still thinking about something. "You seem distracted. Is there something else on your mind?"
Aria let out a soft sigh. "I'm just... I really want to figure out this whole sea whispering thing. You know? I want to be able to protect everyone if the marines come after us again."
Usopp nodded, understanding her desire to protect her friends. "I get what you mean. It must be pretty daunting, suddenly having this new ability and not fully knowing how to use it."
Aria nodded. "It is. It still feels unreal, to be honest."
Usopp chuckled. "I can imagine. But you're strong, Aria, and smart. I know you'll figure it out. And we're all here to support you and help in any way we can."
"Thank you." Aria replied softly. Her crew mates really were the best and always knew how to comfort and reassure her.
Usopp smiled, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "You're part of this crew now, and that means you're stuck with us for the long haul, for better or for worse. We're all here for each other. Always."
The two stood there for a few moments in silence, just watching the waves. The sky was gradually darkening, the pinks and oranges now fading into a beautiful shade of blue. Usopp cleared his throat, breaking the silence. "So, have you tried speaking to the sea yet?"
"You mean right now?" Aria asked.
Usopp shrugged. "Why not? We're by the ocean, it's quiet, and we've got time. Might as well give it a shot. Worst case scenario, nothing happens."
"I guess I could try it." She said. She closed her eyes for a moment.
Usopp watched as Aria closed her eyes and took a deep breath. He wasn't sure if anything was happening or not, but he waited patiently, not wanting to interrupt her concentration.
After a few moments, a soft glow appeared in the water around Aria, and a faint whispering sound filled the air. Usopp's eyes widened in surprise as he watched the sea around her seem to be responding to her presence. He was mesmerized and a little bit spooked.
Aria began to whisper softly, her words intelligible. The whispering sound grew louder and the glow around Aria got brighter. The sea started to ripple and move as if it was responding to her voice.
Usopp stared at the scene in front of him, completely amazed. The sea seemed to be listening to Aria's words, the waves ebbed and flowed, almost like they were moving in sync with her speech. There was a magical and surreal atmosphere surrounding them, and Usopp was speechless.
Suddenly, the glow around Aria faded, and the whispering sound stopped. The sea returned to its usual gentle lapping against the shoreline, as if nothing had just happened.
Usopp was still speechless. He stared at Aria in awe. "Wow...that was...incredible. It looked like the sea was listening to you." Usopp said, still in amazement. "Did you feel anything when you were whispering?"
Aria looked thoughtful for a moment. "Yeah, I did. It's hard to explain..."
"Try." Usopp replied, unable to hide his curiosity. "I'm dying to know what it was like."
"It almost felt like..." A contemplative expression formed on her face as she tried to find the words to explain it. "It seems like when I'm feeling strong emotions, that's when the ocean responds. Like earlier when the marines were attacking us, I was afraid they were going to hurt you guys, and the ocean helped by making the sea around the marine vessels choppy and rough so they couldn't aim their cannons at us anymore. When Luffy fell into the ocean... I was terrified. I thought we were about to lose him. When I cried, that's when the sea pulled him out and brought him back to us. It seems like when I feel a strong emotion, the sea responds."
"Hmm... that's interesting. Maybe it's like a kind of emotional connection that you have with the sea? Like you have to really feel something deeply and intensely for the sea to respond to you." Usopp mused.
Aria nodded, as if the realization had suddenly dawned on her. "I think you're right. Just now, I was thinking about Luffy and how we almost lost him today."
The sound of footsteps approaching broke the momentary silence that had descended upon the pair. Turning around, they saw Luffy walking towards them, his hands in his pockets and a confident look in his eyes. Despite the exhaustion evident in his steps, he seemed determined. He stopped to stand in front of Aria and Usopp, a smile on his face. He had overheard the last part of their conversation.
"Hey," Luffy simply greeted, addressing them both. He took a moment to look out at the water, the setting sun casting a beautiful hue across the landscape.
Luffy's gaze turned back to Aria, his eyes lingering on her for a moment. There's an underlying tenderness in his expression, a subtle shift from his usual carefree demeanor.
"Hey, Luffy," Aria smiled. She couldn't help but feel a sense of happiness at his presence, his familiar smile bringing a sense of comfort and warmth to her.
Usopp looked up and gave Luffy an acknowledging nod. "Hey, captain." He said.
Luffy's smile widened in response to the others' greetings. "I just came to check in on you guys." He explained, his gaze lingering on Aria again for a moment before shifting to look out at the ocean. The setting sunlight gave the scene a peaceful, almost surreal atmosphere.
Aria's smile softened a little as she noticed the subtle change in Luffy's expression. She knew him well enough to pick up on his subtle cues, and she could tell that there was something on his mind. "Are you okay? You look a little tired." She asked gently, her voice brimming with concern.
Luffy shrugged in response, not quite meeting her gaze. "Yeah, I'm alright. Just... a little tired, I guess." His voice was casual, but something in his eyes betrayed his true emotions.
Usopp, who had been quietly observing their exchange, spoke up. "You should probably rest, captain. We've had a pretty rough few days. You pushed yourself pretty hard during that fight with the marines earlier." His tone was filled with mild worry.
Luffy let out a soft sigh, raking a hand through his hair. He glanced at both of them, his expression reflecting his exhaustion and weariness. "You're probably right. I just... I just wanted to check on you guys first." His eyes settled on Aria, his gaze lingering on her face.
The concern in Aria's eyes deepened as she saw Luffy's exhaustion. He was trying to act like his usual carefree self, but she could tell that something was troubling him beneath the surface.
"Usopp..." Aria said softly. "Do you mind if I speak with Luffy alone?"
Usopp understood the subtext in Aria's request. He gave a knowing nod and a small smile. "Sure thing. I'll go see if Franky needs any help with the repairs."
"Thanks. We can talk more tomorrow." She said.
"Sounds good." Usopp gave a small wave before walking away, leaving Aria and Luffy alone together on the beach.
Aria turned her attention to Luffy. Luffy met her gaze, his expression softening now that they were alone. He could sense the concern and worry in her eyes, and he knew that she could see through his facade of nonchalance.
"What's wrong?" She asked, concern evident in her voice.
Luffy let out a long, weary sigh. He knew that he couldn't hide his emotions from her, even though he wanted to. "I'm fine," he said, his voice lacking conviction.
"Luffy, I know you too well to believe that." She said, unconvinced.
Luffy's expression hardened, a mixture of frustration and resignation. "I said I'm fine," he repeated, his voice firmer this time. He didn't want her to worry about him. He's supposed to be the strong one.
She could see right through him. She moved closer to him and gently put her arms around him, pulling him close to her. As soon as she touched him, Luffy's tough demeanor shattered. He let out a shaky breath and leaned into her embrace, wrapping his arms around her and holding on tight.
She squeezed him tighter. "Are you going to tell me what's really the matter now?"
Luffy rested his chin on her shoulder, his body relaxing against hers. "I don't... I don't want you to worry about me," he admitted, his voice quieter now. "I'm supposed to be strong for you."
She nodded. She understood Luffy enough at this point. He didn't need to say anything further. "You are strong, but I'm still going to worry about you. I can't help but worry when the man I love is reckless and impulsive." Despite her words, her voice was full of adoration and a hint of playfulness.
Luffy chuckled weakly, the sound muffled against her shoulder. "Can't argue with that, I guess."
He pulled back slightly to look at her, his expression sheepish. "Sorry for being a pain. I just... I don't like making you worry."
"Luffy, as long as you're breathing I'm going to worry about you." She said, looking into his eyes.
Luffy's expression softened at her words. He knew she was right, and he didn't have it in him to argue with her. He pulled her closer to him again, his arms squeezing her tight. "I'll try not to make it too hard on you," he muttered, burying his face in the crook of her neck.
She held him even tighter, leaning her head on his chest. As she did, she noticed a faint glow coming from the sea in front of them. She looked toward the water and saw the same familiar glow from earlier.
Luffy felt Aria's body tense as she looked out to the sea. He lifted his head and followed her gaze, noticing the faint glow coming from the water. "What's that?" He muttered, his voice low.
"I'm not really sure." She said, watching the water. She couldn't help but wonder if the ocean was responding to her emotions in that moment. She had seen the glow just minutes before with Usopp when she was thinking about Luffy, and earlier that day when Luffy nearly drowned and was pulled from the ocean by the supernatural current.
Luffy looked back and forth between the glowing water and Aria, suspicion and curiosity etched on his face. He took a step towards the shoreline, his feet sinking slightly into the sand. "I'm gonna check it out," he said.
He untangled himself from her arms and began walking towards the water. The glowing water continued to spread, the light becoming brighter, as if it was responding to his movements. Luffy paused a few feet away from the water's edge, his eyes fixed on the glowing surface.
He bent down and dipped his fingers into the water. The glow seemed to follow his touch, creating a trail of light that spread out across the surface of the sea.
Luffy pulled his hand out of the water, his eyes lighting up with fascination and wonder. "Whoa, that's so cool!" He exclaimed, his childlike curiosity and excitement taking over. He couldn't help but grin as he watched the glowing trail in the water continue to spread and sparkle. He bent down to touch the water once more, wanting to see if the same thing would happen again.
Aria stepped closer. "I think... I think the ocean is responding to how I'm feeling." She said. "It seems like it reacts when I'm feeling different emotions."
Luffy raised an eyebrow, a hint of intrigue in his expression. "So...you're telling me that the ocean reacts when you're feeling things? Like, it does something when you're happy, or sad, or angry or whatever?"
"That's the theory." She said. She wasn't completely sure herself how the whole sea whispering thing worked yet.
"Hmm..." Luffy mused, rubbing his chin with his hand. "So...what did you feel this time?" He asked, still looking at the glowing trail that persisted in the water.
Aria blushed. "I... I was feeling love." She admitted sheepishly. "...For you."
Luffy's eyes widened in surprise for a moment, but then softened as a warm smile tugged at his lips. "For me, huh?" he said, a faint blush appearing on his cheeks. "The ocean reacted like that... because you love me?"
She nodded. It was the only thing that made sense to her. Luffy's smile broadened, his heart swelling with warmth. "That's..." He said, feeling a little overwhelmed, for once in his life at a loss for words. "That's... really something."
He stepped closer to her, the glow of the water casting an iridescent hue on his face. "You know..." he said, his voice quieter then, softer, full of tenderness. "I love you too."
There was a few seconds of silence before he spoke again. "Damn..." he added, chuckling a bit. "I can't believe the ocean reacted to love. That's gotta be the weirdest and coolest thing I've ever seen."
Aria couldn't help but chuckle. "Well, if the legend is true, the God of the Sea gave the woman the gift to speak with the ocean because he loved her, so it makes sense that it would respond to feelings of love." She mused.
Luffy cocked his head to the side, thinking about this. "You know... that's a really good point." He said, sounding a bit more serious now. "I guess it makes sense that the ocean would react that way if love is what started it all." He glanced back at the glowing trail in the water, still marveling at the sight. "So..." he said, looking back at her, a sly grin on his face. "Does that mean if you feel something else, like anger, or sadness, or... other stuff, the ocean will react too?"
"It seems that way." She replied. "When you were fighting those marines earlier on their ship, I think the ocean reacted to how I felt by making the sea around their ships more choppy. They couldn't fire their cannons at the Sunny anymore."
Luffy perked up at this realization, his eyes wide with surprise. "No wonder their cannons stopped firing! So, when you're feeling something strong, the ocean responds." He ran a hand through his hair, his mind racing with the thought. "You know..." he said slowly, looking back at her. "This... this could be really useful."
"I think so too." Aria agreed, nodding her head. "I just need to figure out how it all works... and control it. I'm worried that I might not be able to."
Luffy placed a hand on her shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Hey, don't worry." He reassured her. "You'll figure it out. You're smart, and strong, and brave. And besides," he added with a grin, "You've got me and the crew to help you. We're all in this together, remember?"
Aria smiled. "I know. You guys really are the best." She chuckled. "Straw Hats for life." The saying had become a motto of hers at this point.
Luffy chuckled. "Damn right we are." He said, his hand still resting on her shoulder, giving it another gentle squeeze. "But you're pretty damn amazing yourself, y'know. I mean, talking to the ocean and all that. That's something special."
A moment of silence fell between them as they looked onto the glowing water. The sky was darker now, the orange and pink hues faded into deep shades of blue and purple.
"We should get back to the Sunny. Sanji should have dinner ready soon." Aria said softly.
Luffy nodded in agreement, his hand slowly sliding off her shoulder. "Yeah, you're probably right." He said, his gaze momentarily lingering on the glowing water before he turned to face her. "Come on, let's go."
The two walked back towards the Sunny, the sound of their footsteps on the sand echoing in the tranquil evening air. As they arrived, they could hear the distant sounds of their crew members talking and laughing, a sign that Sanji must have indeed prepared dinner. Luffy's stomach grumbled at the thought of food.
Luffy glanced over at Aria, a smile playing on his lips. "Think Sanji made enough food to satisfy me?" He asked. "I'm starving."
Aria laughed. "You know he always does." She smiled. Luffy's endless appetite never ceased to amuse her.
Luffy chuckled. "You know me too well." He said, his stomach growling again, as if to emphasize his point. "But seriously, I could eat a whole cow and still be hungry."
Aria laughed even harder. "I don't doubt that!".
Luffy grinned as he led them onto the deck of the Thousand Sunny, the sound of their approaching footsteps alerting the rest of the crew. Nami and Usopp, who were seated on the upper deck, looked up as Luffy and Aria approached.
"Oh, hey you two!" Nami called out. "You're back just in time. Sanji is about to serve dinner."
Luffy's eyes lit up, his mouth already watering in anticipation. "Perfect!" He said, rubbing his hands together. "I'm starving!"
"We could tell, you big oaf." Usopp said, rolling his eyes jokingly. "We could hear your stomach growling all the way from the deck."
Luffy just chuckled, unbothered by the friendly jab. He was too preoccupied with the idea of food to care about such a trivial thing. "Yeah, yeah." He said, waving off Usopp's comment. "You know me. I'm always hungry."
As if on cue, Sanji's head popped out from the kitchen door. "Oi, you idiots!" He called out. "Dinner is ready! Come and get it before Luffy eats everything!"
Luffy's ears perked up as he heard Sanji's voice, his expression turning even more eager than before. "Yes! Food!" He exclaimed, practically sprinting towards the kitchen. The rest of the crew followed behind, amused by Luffy's boundless enthusiasm.
They all gathered in the dining area, Sanji already starting to serve the meal onto their plates. Luffy plopped onto his seat, his eyes fixed on the food. The others sat around the table, their own stomachs rumbling in anticipation of the meal. Aria took her usual seat next to Luffy.
Luffy immediately began scarfing down his food, shoveling spoonfuls into his mouth with remarkable speed.
Aria looked across the table at Franky. "So how are the repairs coming along?" She asked, curious how much progress he had made.
Franky paused his own meal for a moment to reply. "Going pretty good, actually!" He said, his tone optimistic. "I should have the repairs done by tomorrow morning if nothing goes wrong."
"Wow, that's great! That's way sooner than I would've expected." Aria replied.
Franky nodded, a satisfied smile on his face. "Yeah, I'm pretty efficient when it comes to fixing the ship." He said, going back to eating his own meal. "Don't worry, we'll be good as new by tomorrow."
The conversation died down as everyone continued eating, the room filled with the sounds of dishes clinking and the occasional grunts of satisfaction from Luffy's direction as he continued to devour his food at an impressive rate.
When Luffy had finally finished, he let out a loud belch, patting his stomach satisfied. "Man, that was good!" He said, stretching his arms above his head.
As the crew members finished their meals, they sat back in their chairs, enjoying each other's company.
"Man, I'm stuffed." Usopp said, leaning back in his chair.
"Yeah, that was some good food." Nami agreed, feeling full and content.
"I'm just glad Luffy didn't have thirds." Chopper said, looking at Luffy who was still sitting at the table, his eyes closed.
"Yeah, that was delicious. Thank you, Sanji!" Aria beamed, always satisfied by his cooking.
Sanji beamed back at Aria, his heart fluttering with her praise. "Anything for you, beautiful."
Meanwhile, Zoro grumbled, "Luffy, how can you eat so much? You ate enough for ten people."
Luffy opened his eyes and gave Zoro a wide grin. "What can I say? I have a bottomless pit for a stomach."
"Yeah, we know." Usopp muttered.
"It's honestly a wonder you're not bigger than the ship." Nami added.
As the conversation continued, Robin brought up a new topic.
"By the way, I've been meaning to ask, Aria..." Robin began, her eyes fixed on Aria.
"Yes?" Aria asked, looking up at Robin curiously.
"I've been wondering about your sea whispering ability." Robin said, her voice soft and smooth.
"Oh. What about it?" Aria asked.
"Well, it's just that it's quite an extraordinary ability." Robin said. "And it seems to be quite powerful as well."
Aria nodded. "Yes. I would really love to learn how to control it and how I can use it to our advantage."
Robin nodded in understanding. "Yes, control and understanding will be crucial in mastering your ability."
"It's clear how powerful it is, and I'm sure you'll be able to learn to control it in time." Nami said, giving Aria an encouraging smile.
"In the meantime, we have to be careful." Zoro interjected. "After all, the marines now know you have this ability."
"That's true." Usopp said. "We can't let them get their hands on you, Aria."
Luffy, who had been quietly listening, suddenly spoke up. "Don't worry, we won't let that happen."
The crew members nodded in agreement, all of them determined to protect Aria.
"Thanks. I just don't want you guys to be in any kind of danger for my sake." Aria said softly, looking down. She couldn't stand the thought of any of her crew mates getting hurt because of her now being a target for the marines.
Luffy, sensing her discomfort, spoke up. "Hey, don't worry about us. We can take care of ourselves."
"Yeah, we're a tough crew." Usopp said, puffing out his chest. "We've faced worse things and survived."
"We'll protect you, no matter what." Nami said firmly.
"Thank you." Aria replied with a smile. "I'll do my best to protect you guys too."
The crew members smiled back at her, knowing that they had her back and she had theirs as well. The conversation then shifted to other topics, everyone feeling a sense of comfort and companionship in each other's presence.
After a while, Nami looked out the window at the dark sky. "It's getting late. We should probably get some sleep."
The others nodded in agreement, all feeling the tiredness of the day's events setting in.
"Alright, let's all head to our quarters and get some rest." Zoro suggested, standing up from his seat.
The rest of the crew followed suit, standing up and stretching their limbs as they prepared to head to their cabins.
